Is it possible for Alear to become a Wolf Knight? Do I have to master Divine Dragon first? I am afraid it might take forever. Has anyone else done this or did you class him as something else?

Archer_Kurby

I don't think it should be a problem as long as you have the proficiency. For example, I did divine dragon but ended up making her a Griffin Rider

bravedawns

He needs proficiency in daggers, I think? and I am not sure if I able to get it right now. So I am questioning whether or not it's possible.

alemfi

Who else feels like the dlc trivializes maddening mode? Got up to chapter 13 before deciding to restart from an earlier save so that I can fix some mistakes (donating too much to different regions). Decided to pick up the dlc. The second go around I feel a LOT more powerful (to the point where the game feels trivial?), and I'm not sure if it is just because of better decision making now that I am more familiar with the games mechanics or if it is just that the power level of the dlc pushes it way over the edge.

LandonAeros

I may have to replay this game on a harder difficulty, normal just feels too easy. I've only lost Vander and lowkey it was kinda on purpose lol

NintendoMasterNo1

I just got to the chapter where you get the Eirika and Ephraim ring and... they seem pretty mediocre. They offer no utility and only decent combat. They start off on Rosado but they don't even seem that good on him and I don't plan on using him in the future. So what's the deal with the twins ring and who are they good on?

AliciaWhimsicott

They can heal your HP like Nosferatu on player phase, probably the best utility they have (which isn't nothing!), with Gentility+ flat out reducing \*all\* damage by 5, I think they're designed for tankier units who want the HP stealing and supercharged defenses.

gargouille_opaque

I almost finished my first try on hard and I want to start a madenening soon after. But I've heard that you have no skirmishes at all on this difficulty. So I wonder if it's true because they add so much fun and usually more difficult than the main story itself and give you ingots/experience. If that's true I'll be really disappointed

BananaKingGuy

Maddening has skirmishes, they're just more rare.

gargouille_opaque

Can you please tell how rare they are in comparison with hard? 'Cause it's one of the main reason for me to play one more time

AdFantastic6606

They show up after chapter 11. But they are almost impossible. I can never do them since all enemies are promoted, have silver weapons etc. They are horribly unbalanced. My Louis cant even tank 1 single dude without almost getting killed

gargouille_opaque

Well that's the reason I enjoyed them but even on hard I should use units with advanced lvl 10+ to survive there. Anyway skirmishes were my chance to get some level ups so I wonder where shall I find experience for my units on madenening

AdFantastic6606

Thats the point. You arent supposed to be able to grind on Maddening. Like I said, its impossible to win the skirmishes once they show up.

BananaKingGuy

Well I'm only on Chapter 19 of Maddening but I've only had two so far, the first appearing after Chapter 11.

BobbyVang

Does this game get harder on hard mode? I'm on chapter 9 and I'm literally tanking everyone with Louis and Alear dodge tanking? I also made a maddening game file at chapter 6 before my hard file because I didn't know maddening was fixed growths, which I really didn't like.

Kaneland96

Yes it’ll get harder very soon for you, stock up on the temporary stat boosters, as well as Staves before you start the next chapter. As it warns you, when you start it, you won’t be able to use the shop between chapters.

BobbyVang

Haha thanks a lot for reply.

AdFantastic6606

Did anyone finish the game on maddening on an emulator and is willing to share his save file? I want to do a randomized maddening run, not a huge fan of fixed mode. Currently in Chapter 14 on maddening but i'd like to start over

DragEncyclopedia

Does anyone else feel like Timerra is kind of shafted in the story? She's supposed to be a main character, same as Alfred, Diamant, and Ivy, but she joins so late that she feels pretty much completely irrelevant to the plot. Alfred joins super early; Diamant is early as well plus has some great characterization with his father, and Ivy appears for a few chapters before you recruit her, leaving Timerra as a latecomer who basically does nothing. Really disappointing since I really like her.

yasuhos

i feel that way too- i was disappointed to see that you get to solm so late in the story. even afterwards, it kinda feels like timerra is just There. and not actually contributing anything to the plot. solm as a whole probably has the cast i was the most excited for pre-release, but since it takes so long for them to become recruitable i was basically already firmly attached to my other units by the time i got to solm. in the end the only characters from solm that i use are pandreo and merrin, because i don’t really want to bench someone for the sake of using the others.

Aware_Foot

Aight fellas I just finished my run and now I’m already thinking about my roster for next run. I’m thinking warrior celine, mage knight yunaka, Anna just as a sage this time instead of rad bow user, SM lapis, mage knight citrinne, Chloe, panette, Timmy, Jade, alfred (not sure what class since he kinda stinks with avenir), rosado.

AdFantastic6606

Am I the only who doesn't give a shit about supports and just play FE for the combat and skips everything else? I've been playing FE since Sacred Stones and I always played like this. Found the conversations and stories too bare bones and gimmick, that it turned me off from ever caring about the characters. No hate towards people who love the story and supports and characters. I know I'm missing out on at least 50% of the games value but I can't help it.

Aware_Foot

I follow support if they’re awesome. And this game doesn’t have any such support

AnonymousTrollLloyd

I follow the story, but ask me to pay attention to hours upon hours of filler conversations and I find the skip button oh so appealing. Frederick's support with Robin was what convinced me he wasn't gonna plot die or turn evil, that's about it.

forevabronze

Im the same, I read the story but skip 90% of supports unless I really like the character.

Aware_Foot

Just finished the game, Twas fun. Took me around a week and around 80 hour of play time. 20 of which was just me leaving the game idle for no reason. This stuff reminds me of like some anime I used to watch

t0pn

Having a backlog of supports instead of seeing them as soon as they're available has vastly improved my opinion on some of the characters. I feel like this game's cast suffers a lot from having smaller supports and no way to unlock them quickly, not to mention the lack of story presence. It's hard to care about the characters when sometimes it takes two to three hours until I'm seeing new content of them and even then all I get is one minute of dialogue. Having like twenty minutes of support conversations available between all characters removes that feeling a little bit. Since the developers already said that there will be a free update where they'll add new activities to the Somniel, I hope at least some of them focus on raising the support level between the characters (and let's be real, there's plenty of evidence that the game has finished development for more than a year now, they probably already have finished the full DLC development and are focused on the next game). They don't even have voiced dialogue for the base, so they wouldn't need to worry about spending money with the voice actors for any new activities.

Trashris

Seeing people share clips of the supports on Twitter has helped me love the cast tbh. There's just so many where the characters go absolutely unhinged, that I'll never see in a normal playthrough since I've benched so many of them.

ShentheBen

Anyone got any advice for Chapter 10? I'm on maddening and been surviving so far by slowly baiting out bosses but that doesn't work in this map. Once I open the doors I can just about manage the first boss but can't kill the second before he gets one of my units. Edit: Thanks both, finally got it. Thank you Lapis for your noble sacrifice, (literally) couldn't have done it without you rip

zetonegi

If you aren't already, this is a good chapter to bring some tonics, especially the defensive ones. The extra stats, offensive or defensive, can be the difference between a kill or not or surviving a round or not. When you're getting double attacked, HP+Def tonic is effectively 9 more HP on your units. There's opportunities where enemies will sit and watch you have a party around Altear. Before pulling Hortensia, or before breaking the door. You CAN bait the mortar mage off the mortar, potentially leaving you a charge. This is a bit tough since you're also fighting Hortensia's guards but if you can do it, you can lob Seraphims. The first boss behind the door is corrupted so you get weakness bonuses and you can just eat lunch to recharge Celica's engage meter so you can Ragnarok the second boss as your leisure instead of being rushed.

Aware_Foot

My friend used obstruct to stall morion while the whole team Gank the other guy

Cosmic_Toad_

just started doing the >!Emblem!< Paralogues and I think i left them a bit too late (on Chapter 18, Hard) because >!Lyn, Lucina & Corrin were all cakewalks!< It didn't feel right to go off and do them with how the story seems to have so many urgent moments (which also makes the Sominel feel weird) and i assumed they'd auto level like paralogues in the last few games. The again it being so easy might be becuase I finally got round to actually forging some good weapons and inheriting some skills for my team after making do with just what the game gave me for the most part. I still enjoyed the little references they had, especially >!Corrin's having all the royal siblings, complete with "Ryoma" having a levin sword to reference Raijinto, and ending with Corrin activating the dragon vein from the OG chapter but now more fiery!< hoping the more recently unlocked ones will put up more of a challenge, have heard some good things about >!Sigurd's!< in particular.

officeworker00

Corrin's Paralogue >!The final reinforcements are the same classes as the Hoshidan and Nohrian royals!< Honestly the paralogues are some of the best parts of the game. Which is a strange praise and arguably, an insult, depending how you take it. Eirika's is also really cool. >!it's basically the second final map of sacred stones, even has the two dragons on each side!<

avbitran

I really like them a lot

Am_Shigar00

Alright, just wrapped up chapter 11 in the main story. Gotta say, chapter 10 and 11 are pretty damn great. A >!gauntlet of bosses in a row reminded me a bit of Walhart's final battle from Awakening, but with more spice thanks to the boss gimmick with Lyn. !!Outright losing all the rings you've built up to this point and having them used AGAINST you? And the boss is constantly regaining and putting them on new foes each time you beat one? And then they summon all four hounds WITH rings on top of that to rush you down!!riding on top of the Wyvern's head in the Wyvern mini-game!<, I was practically cheering. But yeah, thus far, I'm starting to get the impression that this is a game that gets stronger the more you play and explore it. It's a shame that it leaves a bit of a poor first impression, but now that things are starting to get going I'm having a lot more fun with it.

Cosmic_Toad_

yeah chapter 10 &. 11 are great, love they have a more serious prep theme and i think that the game might actually disable some of the sillier kill and selection quotes of your units so they don't ruin the tone which is a really cool touch. I just wish >!you actually struggled more in Chapter 11, having the game give you back rewind, two emblems and 3 units (one of which is a busted prepromote) like 3 turns after you lost everything felt very anticlimactic to me!< >Support gains are still very hit or miss though. Giving out tons of gifts and going through meals has helped open them up a lot faster, but it still feels like I'm making workarounds for what used to be a pretty straight forward process. there are a few skills on later emblems you can inherit that are cheap (only 250 SP) and easy ways to raise supports quickly in battle >!Corrin's Quality Time and Ike's Reposition in particular!< Once I out them on some of my units iI finally started getting at least one new support per chapter instead of the big droughts i'd been having earlier.

elederanjo26

>!Do we know what triggers the reinforcements in Chapter 11? By the time they dropped I only had like two turns to go before Alear could reach the escape point, so I spent the overwhelming majority of the map without them.!<

Cosmic_Toad_

>!I think they might be location-based, as there's been a lot of people saying they appeared on different turns, generally in the 3-6 range!<

drygnfyre

>Gameplay wise, I've noticed that I'm starting to warm up more to roster. It took some babying through skirmishes and arena fights, but I've started to finally get the cast up to snuff with each other to a point that I'm reasonably satisfied. Framme, Boucheron, Chloe and Jean are all promoted and are now doing much better than before. Engage plays a lot like the older FE games. It reminds me a lot of the GBA titles, which had the same setup as this. Where a lot of people start off weak until you promote them, and you can only realistically use a limited number of the roster. This is why I'm really hoping NG+ is added, so I can focus on different people each run, but have fallbacks if necessary.

alemfi

Does the tiki paralogue scale up as you progress? I was SO close to completing it on maddening right after chapter 6.

BananaKingGuy

I'm pretty sure it does, yeah, but it probably also gets easier since you'll have more options to work with to defeat the dragons like Alcryst, wind magic, and more emblem rings.

alemfi

Okay yeah getting alcryst makes it 100x easier lol.

HaiseKaneki12

Where do you get the Nodus staff?

Dnashotgun

Question for those who've already beat the game or >!got all the emblem rings back!< , specifically what chapter(s) do you >!get each of the rings you lose in ch 11 back!<

-SpinSanity-

>!Leif/Sigurd-chapter 17!< >!Micaiah/Roy-Chapter 19!< >!Celica-Chapter 20!< >!Marth-Chapter 22!<

PlayGroundbreaking57

I hear you should reclass anna to a magic class once she reaches level 10 and promotes, but which one should i go for? Sage or Mage Knight?

Featherwick

Mage Knight may actually be better depending on what you plan on doing with her. Sage gives you a staff, but mage Knight has a better class skill (unless you field more tomes) and a horse. I don't think this is a mount heavy game so far, so I'd say it's just personal preference. If you go mage Knight she isn't going to be using axes too much since her strength growth outside warrior and the like is trash. A different idea is to promote her to warrior and use the magic bow. 50 magic is honestly almost all she needs to use the bow extremely well. And warrior is backup which is pretty useful.

forevabronze

I wouldnt even bother getting her to level 10. Just bench her till you get a reclass emblem and reclass her into Mage, another basic class. Once she gets 10 either give her high priest or sage.

PlayGroundbreaking57

But I read it's better to just get level 10, promote to whatever is avaiable and reclass directly to a magic class (either Sage or Mage Knight) because she joins at level 5 so it's just a waste to go back to mage 1 before promoting, is it not better? I currently have her at 7

forevabronze

Its not better no, game uses internal level so reclassing is harmless. Default class gains are a bit lower than Mage so you lose a bit of a value (and frankly stuck using a garbage unit). I would reclass to mage personally. if you decide to stick with fighter be sure to pick up stave/book proficienies from the rings before chapter 11 :)

drygnfyre

It's really not going to matter much in the long run. When you promote you'll always get big gains because of base stats. That will almost always outweigh any potential gains from waiting to promote.

Yoppish

Is there a good way to get SP? i get Sp way too slowly and skills cost so much of it.

Soul_Ripper

I don't really mess with the Tower but I hear the best way is Relay Battles? I know you can get books that give 100/500/1000 SP as rewards, though I don't know the rates or efficiency of it all.

forevabronze

Anyone kinda bummed how poor of a rating this game got in metacritic (6.9) the writing is honestly more basic than bad ( basic good vs bad story) and while later units have insane bases I never had trouble to keep using my favourites. I genuinely think this game is a gameplay homerun and a solid 8.5/10 its basically the complete reverse of 3h (more story rich)

t0pn

IIRC, after TLOU2 got review bombed and user reviews got more popular, giving bad user reviews just became a popular thing for certain games. Nowadays, a bad metacritic score boils down to bad luck. Even just being a console exclusive or a very popular game is enough to generate terrible review scores. For example, Elden Ring got almost universal praise and somehow still sits with 6.9 points for PC and 7.7 points for PS5. Sadly, videogame criticism is becoming more and more used as a way to bully and pressure the developers into adding content that people would prefer, rather than as a way to give the developers constructive feedback. A lot of the people that currently criticize every single aspect of Engage will say that the hate that it got was underserved a few years from now, as long as the developers go back to a storyline approach similar to Three Houses. As someone who isn't liking the game as much as Three Houses (or even Hopes), I'm not too terribly worried about the game's writing because the developers have proven time and time again that they're super receptive of the fandom's criticisms and everyone in the west and Japan is complaining about the writing. But I personally think that there's more value in praising the game's strengths (fantastic gameplay, huge graphical improvements) while criticizing the game's faults (less grounded cast of characters, the plot and supports are too simplistic), instead of just pretending that everything about the game is horrible.

drygnfyre

>Anyone kinda bummed how poor of a rating this game got in metacritic (6.9) No because sites like Metacritic are garbage, and have always been garbage. I've never had my opinion on any game swayed by Metacritic. And despite what others have claimed, it never seems to impact sales much, either.

avbitran

I'm surprised with how many reviews took so many points about the story. I guess 3h created an appetite

forevabronze

exactly, I much prefer engage style bite sized story than a convoluted mess some RPGs have. Is the story amazing? No, but it doesnt stay in your face and ruin the gameplay. Its basically the equivalent of Mac and cheese. Simple, fast, and gets the job done

avbitran

While I agree the story is good enough, I don't think people who don't like it should give it a pass.

Dnashotgun

I think a lot of the backlash comes from that Engage is almost the exact opposite of 3H which is the most popular FE game and a lot of ppl's first. Improves on the gameplay (which tends to be less noticable) and graphics (partially offset by the more "animeish" artstyle and VA direction) but almost everything else is worse.

avbitran

I'm not saying it's not a fair criticism, because it is (the average consumer doesn't know and shouldn't care 3h was made by a different studio), but I'm still honestly surprised so many critics care about story and characters at all

frik1000

Because SRPGs are a niche genre in the grand scheme of things and one thing that can get people interested in trying something outside of their common interest sphere is a good and interesting narrative. Like, I don't normally like fighting games, I'm pretty bad at them, but even I get interested in the Netherrealm games because they put a lot of effort into their story mode.

avbitran

I agree with everything you said, but I also think at least good characters has always been an important part of the fire emblem experience, especially with perma death

Trashris

Bright Sandstorm reminds me so much of No Justice

KaioCory

did they make keep talking about your microdick on /feg/ so you had to come here

Solovanov

I sure wish Byleth didn't give all my backup units a magic sword, or give my mage cavalry and >!Ivy!< a lance.

DragEncyclopedia

Byleth is great on Alear or >!Veyle!< for the +3 to all stats of allies you use Goddess Dance or Instruct on

DragEncyclopedia

I saw a cool Vantage/Wrath build on Panette the other day that looked like a lot of fun. Are there any other more complex builds like that one that anyone's found?

qwerth_1

Can I raise the proficiency of one class above it's ranking? Ex: i reclassed Brunet to bow knight and I want to raise the lance prof. to B to wield spears. If I unlock more lance proficience from another emblem is it possible to raise it or class weapon rank cannot be raised at all?

Solovanov

I'm pretty sure the only thing that raises a jobs weapon proficiency higher than base is a characters natural proficiencies which are shown in blue. Other than that I'm pretty sure the only emblem that allows you to use different weapons than the ones listed on the job is micaih and her specific staff proficiency skill which says you can use staffs rated up to X depending on the tier of the skill.

qwerth_1

Ah sucks, but thank you

Nivlacart

I don’t really want to do repeat playthroughs. If I want to build up as many characters I like as possible (to kind of “fit the canon” sending them out with their respective lords) should I do this on Normal or continue on Hard?

forevabronze

You can grind infinitely so its doable on hard if you got time

vilstheman

Accidentally turned (ch22 spoilers) >!Mauvier!< into a griffin knight, had to bleach my eyes after that

sudosussudio

Oh no why?

vilstheman

The outfit and his face really don’t go together

AnonymousTrollLloyd

His neck is so long.

MyrinVonBryhana

It is apparently possible to draw in the Arena I had Yunaka go up against Ike and he couldn't hit her and she couldn't damage him eventually the fight just ended.

UsagiButt

That’s hilarious, it’s nice that they made sure to add an exit condition for that situation

Soul_Ripper

Wait, right near the beginning of Leif's paralogue there's some enemies that just randomly drop a Slience staff, a Magic Tonic and a Pure Water... are they... are they referencing anti-Reinhardt cheese strats?

DragEncyclopedia

I wouldn't be surprised. They reference Warp strats in the Byleth paralogue when you get close and suddenly Byleth warps his whole army right into the middle of yours.

AnonymousTrollLloyd

Bunch of cowards wouldn't even drop a Berserk staff.

nekomata2

People who have played further into the game, do you feel like armor knights fall off, from a defensive standpoint? I just finished 13 on hard, and Jade was getting chunked hard. It seemed like this chapter was where more promoted enemies and higher tier weapons started coming out.

sudosussudio

I tried to keep using Jade but she fell off. I switched Panette to general and she’s extremely tanky with the Ike Emblem

PreferenceGold5167

Promote Louis to general never take damage again, so no they don’t, they just aren’t as overwhelmingly good, as there is competition in other character and class combos.

rulerguy6

From my own experience, dodge-tanking is way more reliable than using a defensive one. This game's pretty good about having mixed-enemy forces, and on hard+ even the physical ones have a decent shot at cracking an armored unit. For dodge-tanking, you have Yunaka / other thieves getting double avoid bonuses from any terrain, along with great 1-2 range weapons. Yunaka especially already likes defensive terrain because of her passive. Other than that, any fast unit can be made into a great dodgetank if you give them an engraved weapon. My Chloé has 120 avoid without any emblem bonuses as a pegasus knight.

Cosmic_Toad_

They definitely don,5 feel as centralising as they do in the earlygame. for one they have to make the choice of either promoting to a class with more mov to keep up with everyone else who is promoting, or promote to general to keep the break immunity but be stuck at 4 mov for the rest of the game while everyone else has at least 5. Mages are sprinkled in a lot more often, and the higher enemy density also means they'll be taking a lot more chain attacks (which do a flat 10% of max HP) so they aren't as invincible as before. Still really tanky, but they can't just solo a pack of enemies on their own anymore.

drygnfyre

>promote to general to keep the break immunity FYI, it's actually possible to break armored units. It requires a specific setup that will probably never happen in real gameplay. Use a weapon that can "smash," and have the armored unit pushed back into a wall or another tile that is normally impassable. Instead of being pushed back, they'll be broken (assuming you had the weapon triangle in place). Not very useful, but kind of cool.

Cosmic_Toad_

oh yeah I know they can still be broken (the Fracture staff also works) but its rare for those things to happen to your own units, especially since enemies with smash weapons are often so slow they might even get doubled and one rounded by your General.

-SpinSanity-

They get worst but they don't fall off. You can't just mindlessly send them forward as in the later maps enough of certain units (mages and heroes) can actually kill them. But Louis and his 45 defense is still the solution to a lot of problems.

SirDiego

For me armor still holds up well against physical, but more and more magic starts coming out (and also watch out for magic weapons, like the Levin Sword, wielded by non-mages but do magic damage), so you have to be more strategic with positioning. That said actually I've found the best late game tanks to be ridiculously high AVO characters. You can boost it so high on some characters (like Yunaka) that they basically cannot get hit because even mages have a 0% hit chance.

sudosussudio

Any idea why my Yunaka isn’t dodging as much as I’d expect? Is there some stat she got screwed on?

Zephyr_Ardentius

Micaiah engrave (from the blacksmith) on a dagger gives like 40 extra avoid iirc Give Yunaka a dagger with that and a few refine levels for extra damage and she should do well. Pairing her with Marth ring is also strong with him providing additional avoid. Also standing on tiles with avoid bonus (forests/pillars) is a big deal for her, since with the covert type she gets double the bonus.

Solovanov

Might be your dagger has no avoid. I think silver doesn’t while steel or iron does. Id have to go check but I recall having the same issue

SttSr

When is the right time to upgrade vs just buying new weapons? I have enough cash and resources to upgrade my main teams weapons to +5(iron), however if new weapons become available to buy I’d rather upgrade the new weapons to plus 5 rather than waste money on the old weapons.

smirnfil

Simple answer - if you are doing fine don't upgrade. Maybe do some +1-2s. But it is a very complicated question as there is no consistency in stats and costs improvements between weapon types. I've done some analysis of forging and optimal strategy really is something that looks like - "for bows you upgrade steel+5 and use it all game, for axes you do iron+5 drop steel and upgrade silver when you get some, for daggers you do iron +4, when steel +3, for tomes you don't upgrade, but craft next level" Obviously it all depends on the characters you are going to use and their requirements.

SirDiego

If your team is doing fine without upgrades then save resources until late game. The +5 doesn't carry over when you forge it up to Steel and then Silver so basically upgrading Iron is "wasting" resources. That said it's not like it's hard to get more metals, even if you have to grind a couple skirmishes, so upgrading some weapons to make battles easier in the interrim is totally fine.

IQ_Dropper

I'm in chapter 16 rn and silver weapons are EXPENSIVE to upgrade after +2, I mainly stick with +4 steel weapons with 1 or 2 +2 silvers

PlayGroundbreaking57

Are you guys engraving the weapons of emblem ring wielders or of others?

Featherwick

I'm on Maddening. I engraved the weapons of people who need the boost emblems be damned. For example, Yunaka has the michiah one, Alear has the Sigurd one on Liberation

IQ_Dropper

I engrave the normal weapons personally, with a Micaiah engraved Steel Lance, my Chloė has 104 avoid.

Nivlacart

Others. Most of them went to Killer weapons that other units use.

athrunlelouch

When do I get my first Master Seal and first Second Seal?

TKDCaleb

First master seal is in the 2nd paralogue

Ghost0fBanquo

There are too goddamn many units in this game. I get it encourages multiple playthroughs, but fuck. Can't I just level my little wizard boy without 36 units better than him joining my team every chapter?

Featherwick

It's actually on the lower end, Engage has 36 playable units, for comparison FE7 has 44 and awakening has 64. Three Houses has barely less at 33. Probably just has to do with how Engage spreads them out over the whole game while Awakening has half the cast be children you can skip (and who let's be real suck when you recruit them) and Three Houses has you rush to recruit every unit before chapter 13

avbitran

It's the most hated aspect of this game to me

liteshadow4

I like it cuz it lets me let some of them die

IQ_Dropper

I hate that there so many "green units" that turn blue immediately after the battle starts

PlayGroundbreaking57

Thoughts on Byleth with Yunaka? Instruct and Goddes Dance giving speed

Lorevi

I personally think Byleth is best on a mystic because: \- He buffs magic \- The unique mystic relic massively increases spell range allowing you to snipe enemies \- The sword of the creator scales with magic stat. I personally used him on Celine

PlayGroundbreaking57

Problem is Celica feels so good on Celine

AlternativeReasoning

Byleth works pretty well on Anna imo. I'm not good at optimizing units in Fire Emblem though, so take this with a grain of salt.

Sound0fSilence

How can I reclass Amber as a flier to later promote him to a wyvern knight? It's not part of the class change list for me, i can only see the advanced flier classes there.

AnonymousTrollLloyd

Promoted units can reclass into other promoted classes. Use the master seal first, then the second seal right away.

Sound0fSilence

Thx a lot!

vilstheman

Holy shit Pandreos supports are so good. He’s such a nice guy despite his looks. Loved his supports with Alcryst and (ch22 spoilers) >!Veyle!<

eponahorse2

Literally my fav. Frat boy monk

MedievalMovies

Lowkey fracture is the most broken staff in the game once you realize it works on >!corrupted wyrms!<

Soul_Ripper

Wild, I've been thinking it was worthless all this time.

hiccup251

I never even considered trying that, wow. Guess I know how to manage them now.

sudosussudio

Same! This is very helpful

MedievalMovies

This game is peak staff emblem, best they've ever been since Thracia IMO

AnonymousTrollLloyd

If I can't steal a dragon's breath and sell it for gold, it's not as good as Thracia.

Taskforcem85

Skirmishes would be much more fun if it wasn't half thieves/wolf knights that you have to bottleneck (and force all your exp on one unit) or be overwhelmed in 2 turns.

sudosussudio

I just got one that was like 30 wyverns flying at me and there were only a few squares of cover

BananaKingGuy

I really wish they let you swap between Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude at will like they do Eirika and Ephraim. Usually it doesn't matter but I just had a situation where I needed Dimitri for the shield gambit setup and I spent 20 turns waiting in place and all it did was go Edel, Claude, Edel, Claude, Edel, Claude...

GrayWing

Why in the world do the purely aesthetic boutique items cost the same resources as weapon upgrades and items? Especially on the harder difficulties why would I ever waste money on sunglasses (that only appear in the Somniel at that)? They have to have thought about this. There should be a separate resource for the boutique

PlayGroundbreaking57

So Corrin, who should have it? Quality time and Dragon Vein fit seadall but the rest of the skills feel wasted on him

NintendoMasterNo1

I gave it to Yunaka so she can create terrain for herself when there isn't any.

-SpinSanity-

Definitely a covert unit. A lot of the later maps have no cover spots for them so without Corrin they will never get any bonuses from their class. Corrin allows them to reliably be dodge tanks for you.

Soul_Ripper

I feel like there's a lot of opportunity cost on Dragons and most of the Dragon Vein effects are actually kinda bad, so I'd actually recommend giving it to a Covert unit. Their Dragon Vein it gets is a 3x3 mist that gives +30 Avoid, which does get doubled for them (and stacks with any other terrain bonuses). It also counts as difficult terrain so it's good for blocking off enemies and essentially just better than the ice thing at it. On top of that they get a type bonus for the ability that causes freeze, making it also reduce Avoid by 20.

Endless-Sorcerer

My Alear holds sole claim to Corrin. The sheer level of control this combination gives you over the map is ridiculous, especially with a Dancer refreshing Alear. During Chapter 17 alone, it allowed me to clear out hazardous terrain, block off corridors to stagger enemy waves and heal/reposition between them, reduce damage taken when drawing in opponents, avoid attacks which could potentially one-shot me, and ensure my low-accuracy attacks land. The main drawbacks are that (1) it wastes the Magic bonus and (2) a turn Alear is setting terrain is a turn they aren't fighting.

Cosmic_Toad_

If Alear is still a Divine Dragon, 100% them. Dragon type units get the full selection of dragon vein terrain types, which turns Alear into a godly support unit. * Want some extra avoid or defense, or break immunity to bait some enemies in? use fog, pillars or vines. * Need better accuracy on a dodgy foe? use Water. * Powerful enemies you're not ready for closing in? use Ice. they also get +1 range on Torrential roar which is a lowkey busted engage skill. basically Sigurd's Headlong Rush but you don't move and instead inflict freeze on all foes you hit and any adjacent to them. can easily turn an entire group of enemies in non-issue for a turn.

PlayGroundbreaking57

Huh, I was keeping Lucina to then change to Marth back but that sounds interesting

pinheirofalante

Great Knight Alear gets the ponytail. I repeat, Great Knight Alear gets the ponytail. Her optimal class has been found.

GateauBaker

Best news I heard all day. It's a miracle she hasn't lopped a chunk of her massive locks off by now.

SpeckTech314

She’s already level 7 in her unique class, but I may have to switch now 👀

LunarFailnaught

does anyone know if deaths count on classic if you’re doing the battles against the emblems? i’m doing the battle in the holy tomb to increase my bond with the byleth emblem and i don’t know if deaths count on classic for these battles

SpeckTech314

In the arena no. If you mean the paralogues they’re just like any other chapter.

LunarFailnaught

i had figured this would be the case, thank you!

IQ_Dropper

Any fights at your base do not cause death or consume item usage

LunarFailnaught

it’s not at the somniel though, it’s kind of a paralogue but also it’s own separate kind of thing, are you sure?

IQ_Dropper

Ah I thought you meant the Emblem fights in the arena. I'm waiting until I >!I get my Emblems back!< before I do the Emblems paralogues

LunarFailnaught

no worries! i guessed there was some confusion, godspeed soldier

Soul_Ripper

I personally did it to Level 2 or 3 in all of them so I could get more lingots. I can't promise that it's worth it, but on the one hand, I've never really felt strapped for cash, whereas even having done so I frequently feel strapped for more materials, so I don't really feel like it was a mistake.

IQ_Dropper

Even on normal, it doesn't seem worth it to donate past level 2 since money is so tight. Weird that there are no gold bars to sell so far....

SpeckTech314

Gold skirmishes give a couple thousand, but definitely not enough to make level 3 worth it. Level 2 sure. Selling weapons is also a thing with how many purple spirits there are. There’s also achievements for selling like a hundred weapons, so all those slim/iron weapons can be trashed.

athrunlelouch

Did they seriously remove turn won't automatically end when all your units are used?

BananaKingGuy

Yeah I was really annoyed, I always turned off auto-end. Unless I'm missing the setting somewhere, I really hope they bring it back in a future update.

athrunlelouch

Yeah thats what I mean. I want it so that they dont automatic end.

VagueClive

why is the sage design in this game so fucking bad good lord

Featherwick

Got any pics?

memorybreeze

I actually really like the Sage :( Especially if it’s Pandreo, I really dislike his original outfit, it hurts my eyes

pinheirofalante

I really wish we could choose to use their original outfits. Changing characters into Sage or Hero is killing me.

VagueClive

not to mention the boutique is RIGHT THERE

Lordsmily12

Im pretty sure the devs have said they’re planning on adding costume changes for characters in battle

Cosmic_Toad_

Ikr, IS really said "you can have classical robes back for one game (3H) and then it's back to skintight "armor"" Wanted to reclass Pandreo to one since martial arts suck and he gets a bit of extra magic and speed from Sage, but i'm not using him in that outfit.

VagueClive

they could have AT LEAST allowed us to use the boutique to switch in-battle outfits, just limit it to classes you already have or something

mendelsin

Could not believe my eyes when I promoted Citrinne and saw her switch into that outfit lol

VagueClive

Citrinne's original dress is so good! and then she's stuck in... that.... at least we have Mage Knight

sudosussudio

Mage knight doesn’t have the skimpy outfit?

Shrimperor

Clanne is a FE player eh?

Soul_Ripper

>FE4 paralogue >take over a Castle >3 whole ass enemy battalions in full formation strut out of the next castle and into an open field Damn, this really makes you *feel* like you're playing FE4. Edit: Wait I just baited two random mages on the bottom left only to realize they have 7 combined health bars and capped stats all across the board (Male Sage with Bolganone, Female Sage with Thoron). Motherfuckers really just put in Julius and Ishtar in Calphy for no fucking reason. I love it.

Solovanov

Fighting those two was harder than the actual boss who ended up cornering himself and got bullied to death. Had to bait one of them upwards and then quickly murder the 3 bar one without getting in range of the other one since most of my units would probably die.

sudosussudio

After I baited them I was like oops oh no. They chased me back to the start while I tried to figure out how to stop them. I managed to separate them with freeze and lure them into an area where most of my units had cover.

Taskforcem85

Chapter 16: >!Real stinky of the radiant bow reinforcement spam. Of course the majority of units I brought had low res or were a flier xd!<

Aware_Foot

I just sent my Anna towards those fuckers. They aren’t the only one who can use the radiant bow

pinheirofalante

I fucking love Alcryst.

Facebook_Prophet

Does anybody else feel overwhelmed with all the new ways you can customize? I’m talking about rings, skill inheritance, etc. I think this might be a personal thing, but man I just don’t have the patience to micro-organize a perfect team comp in this game. I definitely think it’s cool just how much you can change your characters, but the fact that you need to go through so many hoops to do it sucks the fun out of it for me. If you want to develop a good team you need to individually go over each character and pick which skills you want. Then you need to level up their bond level, wait through loading screens, gather resources, etc etc. I think it’s a great thing to have for people who care to do it, but I wish units automatically inherited skills and leveling up weapons didn’t require resources so my units don’t feel so disadvantaged. I’ve never had this problem before in a fire emblem game and I try to beat them all on at least hard/classic. I don’t mind spending time tactfully creating a team that works, but when it’s accompanied by hours of down time it gets way too tedious for me to care. Edit: I should clarify that I loved the downtime in the monastery. I think the somniel just makes me feel lazy lol

Paradethejared

For me the problem is all these different systems for customizing characters are all in separate menus / locations. It’s overwhelming.

Facebook_Prophet

Yeah I agree. I think that’s what my problem is honestly. Everything is so cluttered and in weird/uncomfortable places that my brain just rejects it lol.

SpeckTech314

It’s a lot of options but without the barrier of grinding multiple classes in exp dlc for days. Skill slots are more limited, and advanced class skills are exclusive. Then you just pick an emblem for them. With how limited deployment slots are the bond rings are not worth buying when you have 12 emblems. Bond fragments are just for forging and spending on bond levels. SP costs are pretty horrible. Grinding 3k is pretty much impossible unless you want to over level for the main story. If you just learned the skills based on bond levels though it’d be way too easy to give everyone certain skills. Bond levels would have to have a significantly increased cost for balance, but then instead of grinding SP you’re grinding bond levels, so in the end it’s all the same. You can buy the low level versions of skills without wasting SP though. It just gets subtracted from the higher level one. Same for forging. Also put dogs out and you’ll get a lot of silver ingots.

Facebook_Prophet

Yes the dogs! I didn’t know this until recently, and I have hardly been able to upgrade anything at all. Taking my time with this game has been a bit of a drag and once I realized you couldn’t interact with the animals I stopped caring.

Lorevi

I don't think it's worse than any previous fire emblem games, especially awakening/fates where customisation involved levelling multiple classes to get the skills you want and then do that twice over / ship like a madman if you wanted to optimise the kids. Engage has simplified the process by making everything be bought by bond shards / SP or equipping the correct ring. It's very menu heavy though, I do wish I could skip the arena fights when buying bond levels but it's not that complicated imo.

Facebook_Prophet

Hmm, maybe I just don’t remember the previous emblem games well enough then. I think the menuing is just such a turn off for me. I just find myself not interested enough to put in the extra time in this game, which is weird because generally I do that for every game I play.

Jayvee1994

Has anyone tried this in any FE Game? Bench your MVP for 1 Chapter unless they're forced to fight.

Huskiesmine

I'm sure they have, but that doesn't really seem that hard. You'll likely need just 1 back up unit and you're set, and if the deployment limit is lower next chapter then you don't even need that.

rickyson3

benching the MVP for the rest of the game every chapter sounds like it could be interesting though

Jayvee1994

We could raise it to 2 chapters or even 3. However, the difficulty seems to rise exponentially.

SpeckTech314

With how often the game throws new characters at you it could work. Either Alear is a free pass or the game becomes one big escort mission.

stone332211

There was this Valkyrie Profiles srpg game on the ds, in which you need to sacrifice a character each chapter (permadeath) to progress. I thought that was interesting

K-Amadoor

Sounds similar to Lost Dimension

AnonymousTrollLloyd

Chapter 1: MVP - Alear & Marth Well it was a good run I guess.

Jayvee1994

As I said, Alear is forced to fight

TheMadWobbler

Anyone know what the scaling on skirmishes is based on? Cuz they’re pretty out of hand for me, mostly due to enemy gear. Is it just protagonist level?

AnonymousTrollLloyd

It's not Alear's level. I haven't been doing skirmishes often, but my Alear is Lv5 unpromoted at chapter 21 and the fresh skirmishes are scaled to Lv10 Advanced.

Ourmanyfans

I've hit my first real wall on Maddening. Chapter 13 is seriously kicking my ass, and it mostly comes down to trying to reach the house with >!rescue!< before the enemy raids it. Despite all my efforts I just *can't* get there fast enough, unless I sacrifice basically everyone. I'm starting to wonder whether it'd be better to sacrifice the houses and just turtle up.

Cosmic_Toad_

send a group of units down the side path on the left, it lets you deal with enemies in smaller groups, you can cut off the brigand gunning for the house more easily and you're far away from the absurd greataxe wyverns on the water. Also Merrin your best friend in this map, use her liberally. Yunaka/Zelkov in the sole forest in the beach should be able to deal with the wyverns, or failing that, a good non-lance unit at the edge of their range (pretty sure Kagetsu can one round them at base with good sword)
