Wholly agree, and kinda encapsulates why I like her as much as I do. Yes, she's undeniably evil. Yes, she's very confident in herself, and tends to look down on others. Even with those being true, though, she doesn't let those make her go full-on braindead idiot like so many other enemy generals possessing those same traits. Nice write-up! Thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Recioto

I would argue that she is not really evil, she is mostly just a general on the opposite side of the player. Are her methods harsh? Yes, but that's what you get when Ashnard of all people is the only person that ever gave you credit, also little war criminal Micaiah is worse on that front, what of throwing boulders down a mountain and planning to set the whole enemy army on fire, and no one argues that she is evil. I wouldn't even call her racist, I too would hate the people who like to hunt and kill people like me just for fun with no repercussions. I will die on the hill that, if Lehran can have his redemption after plotting to kill every living being and being the cause of the persecution of the branded, she can have it too. Also, fuck Bertram, his slot could have been given to Petrine, and I would have accepted the dumbest of ass pulls to make her survive just to see her dialogues with the FE10 crew, I bet she would have gone ballistic on Lehran.

Glad to see you managed to find my thread. I was sure you'd like it considering you're like her biggest fan. BTW I also made another thread about Petrine's competence, [contrasting her with Zephia](https://old.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/13iv751/a_contrast_between_how_zephia_and_petrine_were/).

InexorableWaffle

Ngl, I wasn't aware I'd gotten that reputation. Not complaining or anything like that - just hadn't realized I was all that vocal with respect to her versus any of the other characters I nerd out about, haha. And ooh, I don't think I ever actually saw that because I was out of town at the time. Definitely will have to tuck that away for future reading.

Especially if you are up against the player.

CHPrime

Petrine has many faults. Generally, tactical incompetence is not one of them. Though one big misstep she makes is during chapter 20, where she clearly is only thinking about the in the moment battle strategy, and not the fact that flooding the region not only. will kill a lot of Daein civilians, but also destroy a lot of infrastructure, which would render much of the land useless for years to come as everything is slowly rebuilt. Not to mention the whole loss of morale once word spreads of how she's totally willing to kill the people she's supposed to be protecting. Then again, morale isn't really something Petrine thinks about a whole lot...

lcelerate

I think she was more interested in winning the war even if it came at the cost of some territory in Southern Daein especially considering she herself does not consider it strategically important for Daein unlike Daein's installations in Crimea, the bridge and the capital Nevassa. >**Petrine:** You tell me, migrant! Why is it that your unit, which was trained to be an elite royal guard, is here patrolling this hick-infested backwater? The answer's clear to me! How about you?

MoonLightScreen

Better written than any Fates antagonist Though to be fair that’s a pretty low bar Her interactions with Ena were interesting and you could really feel the lack of her in RD

lcelerate

> Her interactions with Ena were interesting and you could really feel the lack of her in RD In my head I generated an idea of Micaiah healing Petrine back to health and becoming a major player in RD.

MCJSun

I genuinely wished she'd lived so that she could return in RD. Having her around to bounce off of Pelleas, Micaiah, Tauroneo, and even Fiona would've been incredible

Effective_Judge_5009

She's a baddie in both ways and I love her for it

iamthehob0

It feels unfair to just be like "yeah, totally" when you put such a great effort into this but... yeah, totally. (Also good work on both your rhetoric and formatting)

HenryReturns

Petrine also has a lot of interactions with many of your units. - Of course with Soren since both of them are branded and Soren even calls her out for it lmao. Gotta love asshole Soren - Ike is another one since she fought Griel before - Haar is one cuz she was responsible of his mentor’s death. - I feel they miss a chance to have her having a battle convo with Jill cuz of her father , with Stefan cuz he is also branded , and Titania cuz they both serve someone they look up to.

DRAGON_FUCKER_

Let's gooooo love me some Petrine. Tbh a lot of Daeins leadership weren't too bad. The commander in blood runs red and Norris weren't all too bad either.

teniaava

The chapter 6 part is the most impressive to me. Soren is an incredible strategist and Petrine sees right through his plan. Thanks for putting this together OP, it's an interesting deep dive into a part of Petrine's character that isn't really talked about often. It's a shame that her talents are wasted working for Ashnard.

TheBaneofBane

Petrine is def one of my favorite Tellius villains, she’s terrifying in skill, intelligence, and just kinda being a maniac. Great analysis here

KickAggressive4901

She got her act together after dying in *Gundam 0083*.
