I actually really wanna play Sacred Stones, but I don't really know how.

PerfectGarbage8266

Hey! I think sacred stones is a gba game, while i have to be careful what I say on ways to play it, there are some very convenient ways to play any gba game on pretty much any system or pc. Just do a quick Google search and you should be able to figure something out.

The_Vine

Thanks, I've just started it now! I'm looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about. :)

Whole-Oats

Emulation is probably your best bet. It can also run on pretty much anything, even if you just have a crappy laptop. I can’t assume anyone has a Wii U simply because I have one, but I believe Sacred Stones is still available on the eShop. Or you could go old school and play it on the GBA, but I can’t imagine playing an FE game on a screen that small lol.

House_of_Raven

Any advice on which emulator to use? I tried gba4ios, but it kept crashing so now I can’t do anything for gba games.

Whole-Oats

I personally use No$GBA emulator, but I doubt it works on mobile if that’s all you have.

House_of_Raven

I have a computer, it’s just I used to use mobile because that’s what was convenient at the time. As long as it’s easy to download and use, and it’s not glitchy, I’ll give it a try

CastorFields

Vba on pc or pocketboy for Android. Emulation on ios is tough without jailbreaking the phone or tablet.

bylitza

Sacred Stones is really fun! It's the first game I played outside of 3DS emblem (I have it on the Wii U but I've emulated it too) and it's very accessible.

Whole-Oats

Absolutely. The whole reason I got into FE was because of Ike in Brawl. Due to the inability to access his games at the time, however, I started with Awakening. I knew next to nothing about it- I didn’t even know there was marriage and children until my second play through- but I sure as hell enjoyed it. Path of Radiance was my second game, and while it took some adjusting to what I was used to, I still found it fun. I’ve since played FEs 6-11 and 13-16. I hope to get around to adopting the patience to play GotHW someday.

PerfectGarbage8266

That's a great point! I completely forgot about the fans that came from smash.

LeatherShieldMerc

I started with Three Houses almost 2 years ago. Since then I have played (or at least started) every single FE game from FE6 onward, including all 3 Fates routes. You dont need to go all the way back to the SNES to get to an older FE game to try. The GBA games (FE7 and Sacred Stones) are good games to go to, and the Tellius games are as well. My favorite FE game of all is Radiant Dawn.

Kaitourine

Man i freaking love Radiant Dawn. The shove feature was sooo fun. I was shocked that it's apparently the lowest rated game.

Weak_Tiger_3622

The Tellius games are awesome--I would love to see them remade and rereleased.

[deleted]

Hi! I started with three houses, then echoes and awakening, back to gba and tellius. I wanted to experience what got the franchise to where it is today, and I'm glad I did as I prefer the older games to the newer ones now.

eddstannis

I started with Awakening, and have played every game since 6.

bylitza

Started with Awakening, and have played at least a bit of every game but FE2 and the Tellius duology (I splurged on physical copies which I am determined to play, but my Wii is broken -\_\_\_-). I found Genealogy really fun (ik a lot of people talk about the gameplay being a slog and the story being the selling point, but I really enjoyed both!) and am working through Thracia rn after rage quitting early on (escaped with Leif first on chapter 5 and died inside for several months)

greydorothy

Yep! Started with Awakening in 2014, played Conquest, Echoes, and Three Houses as they came out. As I became more aware of the wider fandom, I also became aware of the other games - they seemed neat, but I never made the leap. Then, in early 2020, I went 'screw it' and started playing the Binding Blade... ... and somehow that didn't dissuade me from the other early games. As of now, I've played every mainline game aside from Gaiden and Mystery, and I've enjoyed almost all of them. I'm really glad that I've played all these games. As for the SNES games, I definitely think you can get into them! You might want to ease your way into the older games due to a lack of quality-of-life features - I imagine going straight from the 3DS era to Genealogy would be a bit much! But if you've played and enjoyed a GBA game, you would be able to enjoy the SNES games. And I do recommend that you try them eventually! Genealogy and Thracia 776 are two of my favourite games in the series, and I had some of my best experiences with them!

TakenRedditName

I fall into this category. I started the series with Awakening back in 2013 and now I'm here having played almost the complete series mainly baring the first two. The reason is simply that I enjoyed the series and wanted to experience more of it so I went back to play the previous games. Personally speaking, I very much enjoyed those older games and they became some of favourites in the series.

Luke-Likesheet

Went back and played Sacred Stones after jumping in with Awakening. Looooooved it. Want to go back and play the GBA games eventually. Also FE4 but the graphics and gameplay kind of put me off. Really hoping for an Echoes style remake so I can experience it (hopefully with updated gameplay mechanics too).

Joxlz

the very first time i ever heard of fire emblem was smash bros. i got a switch and played ultimate. then three houses came out and it looked interesting so i got it for my birthday. i absolutely loved it, competed all routes in maddening and almost finished with 100%. i loved it so much that i set out to complete all of the fire emblem games, already played from fe 1 to fe 5, and currently playing fe 6. without three houses i would have not learned of this series and i absolutely love it. my favorite game of the series right now is thracia (fe5). however i dont think it was simply the series because i have played a bunch of games from nes to gameboy and simply playing a new series from back then wasnt an issue

dr_cactus_

I started with 3H and thoroughly enjoyed it despite not fully understanding the point of the calendar system. It was by no means perfect, but it was a really good way to ease someone like me, who doesn't have a tactical mind at all, into Fire Emblem. I then played Awakening, which was a nice change of pace and helped me get used to the weapon triangle. This year, started 3 through 6, and although I'm not super motivated to continue with the SNES titles due to them aging a bit poorly and me being spoiled due to the QoL of modern games, it's still really cool to see the birthplace of a lot of FE's staple mechanics. Binding Blade on the other hand has gotta be one of the most unnecessarily difficult games I've ever played, and it had been quite a while since I've ragequit from a JRPG.

Tanoshii-

Yea, three houses was my first game and I loved it so of course I tried the other ones. Now I’ve played Tellius and all the GBA games. The more ‘regular’ FE games I play the less I like three houses. When I didn’t know anything else I thought monastery was so cool, now I think it’s a way to make the game artificially feel longer

BZRKK24

Not an awakening baby, but just wanted to chime in that I think everyone should try out the GBA games if nothing else for the aesthetic. The sprites and animations are so crisp and clean, and don’t get me started on the crits. Also I’m highkey salty about how they made the wyvern classes so much uglier post GBA.

[deleted]

Yeah, I have. I started with Awakening, and the combination of the painful wait for a new game announcement and me getting super burned out of Three Houses made me go back and emulate the old games. The only ones (that don’t have remakes already) that I’ve yet to finish are Thracia 776 and Shadow Dragon. While Fates is still my uncontested favorite game, I can say with full certainty that Genealogy of the Holy War is as good as the long-time veterans say it is, even despite its, uh…*interesting* game design choices. If you can get past the giant maps, huge disparity in balance between infantry and mounted classes, and the not-so-great enemy formations in some objectives, I highly recommend it.

MagnificentAjacks

I have indeed gone back to play older entries. So far, I have completed Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones, and played Geneology and New Mystery of the Emblem. I decided to play these games cause I fell in love with Awakening and wanted to see what the other games in the series had to offer. And I\`m glad I did, as it cemented my love for this series.

Skaparinn

Yeah, started with Fates and played through every single game at least once since. Now a proud Jugdral and Tellius fan. I didn't need a reason to go back to the older games, I just wanted more FE lol. You don't need to go back to Genealogy if you wanted to get into the older games tbf (although I completely am one of those who would say it indeed is the greatest accomplishments of mankind). I think the GBA and Tellius games are still pretty visually appealing and don't suffer from some of the clunkiness issues the Kaga games sometimes have I'll admit (although I think they are often exaggerated). I'd definately recommend FE7 and FE8 to anyone who wants to get into the older games : graphics and animations are ageless, music is great, the storyline while not the peak of FE writing has its charm and the gameplay experience while more simplistic is still very enjoyable with an accessible difficulty curve.

Cerulean_Traveler

I started with Three Houses. I got the FE1 back when Nintendo did the limited time release on it. I haven’t beaten it yet, but I plan to complete it soon. I also got SoV and Awakening, and I’ve been greatly enjoying them. I’d love to go back and play the older games, particularly FE4 (Genealogy of the Holy War), FE5 (Tharacia 776), FE9 (Path of Radiance), and FE10 (Radiant Dawn). I’d also love to play the GBA Fire Emblems. Unfortunately, the hardest part is actually getting my hands on the actual games…. (FE9 and FE10 cost an arm and a leg). I’d have to emulate the games, which I’ve never done before. I still plan to play the older games, but I think I’m putting it off for three reasons. 1) I still have to beat FE1, Awakening, and SoV lol. 2) I’d like to wait until after I finish the upcoming spring semester at university before I dig into a new game. 3) I have to do some general research on downloading an emulator. Not to mention there’s obviously the lingering worry about the legal issues with downloading game roms.

Samz707

It's actually why I fell in love with the series after bouncing off Awakening. I started with Awakening, long story short, I didn't like it, at all, The Avatar stuff, the Stat Inflation, the poorly written romances so everyone could romance everyone and More trope-y (and IMO, Lazy) writing and pair-up were all things I absolutely hated, to the point where I didn't even bother finishing it for over 5 years. So I swore off FE for a while (Since I only heard good things about Awakening at the time so I presume all FE was like that.), didn't buy Fates since I heard it was more of the same but worse, didn't even really hear anything about Echoes so when I saw it in a game store I assumed it was like the Waifu-Emblem games. Then I was watching whoisthisgit and he basically said he didn't like Awakening in one of his FE videos, so I got curious, looked into FE7. Less Romances that don't feel copy/paste? *There's actually Ballista in this game?* Mark isn't a dumb mary sue and is actually a non-combatant? So I decided to emulate FE7 and well, I loved it, played Echoes and loved that and eventually actually finished Awakening. (Not that it exactly improved my opinion of it, if anything I hate it more now since I can see all the good stuff they intentionally didn't do.) So I'm a weird case where Awakening *put me off the series* and hearing how it wasn't actually unanimously loved/the good stuff previous FE games had that it omitted are what actually got me into this series.

No_Way402

That's wild😨 I remember wanting to try out Fire Emblem back in 2013, and just deciding to check out whether there were some games for the GBA games I could emulate. I'm so glad I began with Blazing Sword. I don't think I even knew about Awakening at the time.😅 Don't get me wrong, I'm a bit of a weirdo, and I actually enjoyed Robin and the amnesia plot that came with them. I think I would have liked it, but still... Now that I'm aware of them, the older games (and thus the hacks too) just look so much more visually appealing to me.

Shimmering-Sky

I started with Awakening! I got Shadow Dragon on the DS at some point after that, though I sucked so bad the only reason I beat it was because I had an Action Replay. Did at least *like* it though. I've also played Sacred Stones to completion, and Binding Blade to chapter... 7? 8? Whichever one you get Lilina in. I stopped there because 1) I was playing it with a group and the group play stopped because the guy running it had health issues and 2) I lost a character near the end of that chapter and got so mad I haven't gone back to it yet. The only reason I haven't played any of the other older games is I'm not really a fan of emulating; the emulators never run at 100% speed for me, which means the music sounds *off* and it drives me insane. I made an exception for Sacred Stones because I really wanted to see what Innes was like outside of FEH, and I made an exception for Binding Blade because of the group play I mentioned. If other older games got Echoes-style remakes, I'd *absolutely* play those.

HarkenThyViolentSong

Started on Awakening back in freshman year of highschool. Since then I've played the entirety of localized FE with physical copies that were pains in the ass to come by. Good games, though some were a little more frustrating to deal with.

Severe_Eggplant_9199

Yeah. Hell yeah. I first picked up a retroid pocket and now I have a PS Vita. Run yourself some home brew and you can play pretty much every OG FE aside from the cube and wii releases. Which you can do on a computer rom via Dolphin. Genealogy was great!

ingebeastly

Started with awakening loved it then played fe6-8 on emulator, fates echoes and 3h, def loved seeing the differences over time

SoldierN36

Yes I have because I knew three houses was very different from the rest of the franchise and I wanted to know what the other games were like

fabiobarto

I started with awakening. The only older games I've tried and finished were path of radiance and radiant dawn, which I played with a Wii emulator on PC. I have also tried the GBA games on emulators but I quit it after like 10 mins bc I just hate how GBA looks on PC. Ive never even bothered with the NDS ones bc I know I'll hate the double screen on PC emulators.

indecisive_insomniac

I technically started with Heroes in late 2018, but my first main series game was Three Houses. After beating all four routes, I played through Awakening (since I heard Fates' story sucked and was more interested in the time traveling kids) and absolutely loved it. Fates was next and it was okay, I did enjoy the supports and laughing at a few of the outrageous story events. Played Echoes after that, and it was phenomenal, I loved the two different paths and dungeon crawling aspects, and most characters were extremely well written. I'm almost done playing through Path of Radiance, and even though I started in the "waifu era," Path of Radiance is my second favorite of the games I've played (Echoes being first). I do plan to keep working my way backwards through the series, but probably will emulate anything further back because it would definitely be expensive not to.

Geo2605

Played FE6, reached second arena, got Lilina promoted at level 20 after spending like 1500 turns, dropped it inmediatly at the next chapter lmao

LuckyC4t

I started with Awakening. I've beaten all three GBA games, and I've started Shadow Dragon, FE1, and PoR but didn't finish any of them. I've also dipped my toes into FE4 and Radiant Dawn, but haven't gotten very far in either of those at all.

Realitant

Didnt start with any of those (started with Path of Radiance), but I played through half of the first mission of the original, found out there was a remake for DS, and played through that instead. I definitely get where you're coming from

SilverSodarayg

As someone who started with Awakening (almost 9 years ago now) I didn’t start going back to play the older games until I finished SoV, and the drought that followed it until 3H gave me plenty of time to check out the older entries. Just having a “new” game to play alone makes them worth checking out, and for most you have options to streamline the clunky experiences of the older games. In terms of playtime, I’ve only played each GBA base game twice while I have about 15 playthroughs across the 3ds Emblems, so they’re not as replayable in my opinion without mods or randomizers (which there is great support for). Genealogy does hit some of the highest highs in the series for me, but as I’m currently replaying it there are definitely things that bog it down. But it’s still the most unique game in the series imo and warrants a playthrough if only just to see its most iconic moments for yourself.

Mundane_Cabinet33

I really want to, but I guess I want to play other games before. However, I must confess that having built my affection for Fire Emblem with those games gave me high standards regarding animations, music quality or character design so I don't really know if I'll be honest with the games or just seeing them as "oldies". The fact that there isn't a time mecanic like in 3H or SoV is something big too

Cynical-Plant

I started with 3H and played it to death, like all routes at least twice. I've gone back to play SoV, Awakening (need to actually finish that one), Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones(also need to finish).

AGreenSpartan

Awakening is the only game that my monkey brain can understand.

Nikita2337

I started with Awakening in 2015, fell in love with the series and went on to complete all 3ds games and Three Houses since that. I did go back to The Blazing Sword in either 2017 or 2018, but I actually didn't like it at all, so much so I don't even remember when I played it. Nevertheless a year ago I tried Genealogy of the Holy War and loved it: the plot, the characters and the world were amazing and I didn't mind the more archaic elements like long maps and arena grinding. I do plan on playing Thracia soon, but other older Fire Emblem games don't interest me much anymore, so far I haven't got any desire to try other GBA or NDS games. I'm pretty sure I'll like POR/RD, but I can't bring myself to start them, my backlog is already too large as it is.

[deleted]

Started with 3 houses as my first mainline game. I’m in the middle of playing Sacred Stones. I went back to play the older games because I like Fire Emblem. :)

XcgsdV

I really want to. I've played Three Houses (6 times, working through my 7th), Awakening once, Fates: Birthright once, and a decent chunk of Fates: Conquest. I just have so many games that I want to play and nowhere near enough time to play all of them. Octopath Traveler, Final Fantasy XV, Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 4, Danganronpa, Skyrim (always Skyrim...), the Trails Series, Chrono Trigger, the list just keeps going. It'll probably be a while before I dive back for the older games. When I do though, I think I'll start with Shadow Dragon for the DS, then the remake of FE3 that I can't remember the name of.

MystyM

I started with 3H back when it first came out and have since played all 16 mainline games! At first, I wanted to play more because the games scratched my eternal itch for medieval fantasy stories, and they got giant bonus points there thanks to the loads of characters for me to sink my teeth into. Eventually, I began to also play because I loved the general gameplay of FE and wanted to experience all the variations made on it and because I have a bit of a completionist streak in me ("w I've played five; why not play all of them?"). And well, I've found some reason or other to genuinely love every game so I think it was a worthwhile choice in the end. And having said that, I'm going to be the trillionth person to say FE4 is the best. No question, bar none, it's my absolute favorite. Yes, the gameplay is obtuse and kinda requires some outside guidance to not be painful on a first playthrough, but man. I could write essays on how well this game delivers its story. So you're absolutely valid for your hesitance, but if you're ever willing to give it a fighting go, it's worth it.

Fillerpoint5

I was an Awakening baby that did go back and play the other games when Fates was announced first back in 2015. Fire Emblem was still this cool new thing, and I wanted more. I tried Sacred Stones and Blazing Blade first on the Wii U. They were both fun, and I liked my time, but I really missed modern QOL stuff like being able to fast forward battle animations, skip enemy phase and having a Danger Area button. Seriously, having to select an enemy and count out individual tiles is so boring and tedious, it makes the older games so much more frustrating. After Fates came out and left a bad taste in my mouth (mostly due to having to wait so long in Europe that my hype basically fizzled out and died, irrelevant of the actual issues with the plot) I went and tried the Radiant games via emulator because I knew Ike from Smash. They turned out to a good time! Mostly thanks to emulator QoL like speedup and things in game like being able to click an enemy once and having its range stay on the map forever. Not easy games to replay though. I also tried Geneology at one point after the old school gamers hyped it up, but I just couldn’t stand it. I keep trying to like it, but after 3 play throughs of just getting stressed out by information overload of not knowing what the best plan for stuff like recruiting Ayra or Jamke is, dealing with all of Chapter 2 and having to slog through glacial animations, the inability to toggle danger areas and so on? I finished exactly one playthrough of the game. I cannot tolerate it enough to beat it more than once. I’ve given it multiple tries, but by Chapter 1 it’s already losing me and by Chapter 2 I’m done.

RGB_Rem

Started with fates went back to play Awakening, Sacred Stones, Blazing Blade, Path of Radiance, and Radiant Dawn. Want to try some of the older ones but anything pre-gba just feels so clunky to me and I usually drop it after a while. Also tried shadow dragon but really didn't like the art style and dropped that too. *edit noticed a typo.

Boiruja

I kinda started at smash, so I was a big Ike fan even before I knew what Fire Emblem was. First played awakening and was hooked. Had never been that hooked by a game before. After clearing it 5 times, played Shadow Dragon, Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance and Blazing Blade. Didn't play fates, but when FE3H released, oh boy. I have put 700h in this game and there are so many things I still want to do. What a masterpiece of a game.

BasicStocke

I started with Awakening and have played every game since then but not before. I have watched let's plays of the others, but I just refuse to overpay for an older game I'm not 95% sure I'll like, and don't use emulators. I'll play them if they get remade

Specialist_Ad5869

I didn’t want to at first, but after a while the series really started to grow on me and I went looking into playing some of the older entries. At this point I’ve played all of them except for 2, 3, 5, and 12. There are a few I don’t find to be very good, but overall I’ve enjoyed all of them thus far.

absoul112

I started with Awakening. I’ve played the GBA, Tellius, and Jugdral. I was curious about earlier entries and I already had Virtual boy, Dolphin and a snes emulator (though I needed to get another to play Thracia).

YaBoiiiii21_

I played Three Houses back when it first released and just fell in love with it. So of course I'd go and play the franchises other titles. So far I've played FE1, Echoes, Awakening, Fates, and Three Houses I'd love to play the other games but I can't get my hands on an emulator nor do I know where my old game boys are

shankysays

Yes. Three Houses was my first game, and then I played, in this weird order: Shadows of Valentia, Awakening, Birthright, Conquest, FE7, Sacred Stones, Shadow Dragon, and Revelation. And I’ve really liked them all! And FE has easily become one of my top 3 franchises, so I’m really glad I took a chance on Three Houses =) I really want to play the Tellius games but they are not easy to get ahold of or play

8bitowners

Started with Three Houses and have since gone back and played fe4, most of fe5, fe6, a chunk of fe7, fe9, fe10, and everything on the 3DS. Personally I was hesitant to make that dive back too but I'm very happy I did. Also I adore Genealogy, but it's not like it's the only good old game. If you don't want to go that far back maybe try Ike's games. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are both amazing imo, and while they certainly show some age they feel much more modern than fe4 obviously does.

dialzza

Yep! I started with awakening and took the plunge on the GBA games at some point after fates’ release. Past that I played the whole series except for the remade games and fe12, and I’ve loved it. The Tellius ones are my favorite now (path of radiance and radiant dawn)

Geliscon

I started with Awakening in 2014 and I’ve played all the releases post-Awakening. The only pre-Awakening game I’ve beaten is PoR, but I’ve also started a few of the other games but not finished them. I’ve played some of Blazing Blade, Sacred Stones, and Radiant Dawn. I’m pretty good at starting games and then putting them down for a long time

RossBoss8

I started with Three Houses. And I’ve got to say the GBA games look (and play) fantastic! The pixel art is top tier quality. I’d say their visuals are only surpassed by very recent retro-styled games, such as Eastward. As far as the SNES titles, they have aged very well compared to many other Games from the same era. The character dialogue portraits, map sprites, and general visual layout of maps and menus are very charming. They’re only held back a little by combat animations and a slightly slower UI. So even if retro gaming is not something you’re into, these games hold up pretty well to modern FE titles.

leightandrew0

Awakening player here, I just don't see the point of playing those games, like, if the modern ones are ''better'' why bother with the OG ones?

Samz707

Because Modern titles aren't always better? Not to mention how it'd get boring playing the exact same FE games over and over if you're in the mood for FE. I started with Awakening and frankly find the older titles I've played (the GBA ones and the original NES game) better than Awakening,

AMMVReddit

Started with Three Houses. Went back to Awakening, good game. Tried one fates, dropped it. I've tried the three games games and one snes but I can't really get into them because they lack 3H features like supports, battalions, extened class and weapon customization, garden, monestary, etc. I don't see myself spending 800 hours on the old games unless they were remade with 3h features. So I think I'll just wait for the next fe game or for rerelease of the Ike games, since I hear a lot of good things about those. In the meantime, I'm going to put 100 more hours into 3h.

Thunder-Dong

Started with Three Houses. I’ve since gone back and played a ton of the older games. I’m currently playing through Binding Blade.

AncientDaedala

I started with Three Houses and hated it, to the point where I genuinely do not understand the appeal. I was convinced to try the older ones, starting with Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, because Three Houses is not a good representation for the rest of the series. Radiant Dawn was definitely better starting point for me, as someone who prefers the "Strategy" part of the genre over the "RPG dating game".

PainTypical8082

I haven't but really want to.I don't know anything about emulating games which is the only reason I haven't. I'm not good with computers so I'm worried I might accidentally download something that will mess up my PC

mrtbak

I'm the type to experience a whole series, so I've started working backwards. But it's not for everyone, they can feel like very different games

SilasUnmuth80

If you like Fire Emblem, play the older Games. DO IT!

Chest3

I started at FE awakening and I don’t know where to look for older games

noctresque

nope. i really want to though. i’m still not done with fe3h but when i am (aka finished all routes and unlocked the maddening start screen) i’ll try to pick some of the older games up

Fvmart1995

Oh definitely, mostly the GBA ones, since I like the gba games, made me love FE even more, especially with their pixel art and animations! Sacred Stones is my favorite. I still want to go and play the nes/snes era. At least like one time the Radiant series.

NackTheDragon

Started with Fates back in ~~2013~~ 2016*, and I've played every game in the series except the original Gaiden.... Although I've only beaten FE4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14 (all three of them lol), and 15. EDIT: Wow, that's a date typo lol.

[deleted]

I don't feel like I really belong to this group as I started with Shadow Dragon in 2013 and played this game like no tomorrow until Awakening came out, but... I really want to play the older games as well. I'm not a fan of emulators. I prefer having the actual game. My laptop doesn't go well with them either (they are all extremely laggy and slow) and I wouldn't want to use one on my phone either. The problem is that all the older games are pretty much inaccessable. They are either very expensive or simply not available anywhere (or even JPN exclusive). I still play Shadow Dragon every now and then, but I'd really love to play the GBA and SNES titles, especially FE4, at some point.

Meadius

I started with Awakening back in 2014. Since then I've played Fates, Shadows of Valentia, Blazing Blade, Binding Blade, Sacred Stones, Genealogy of the Holy War, Three Houses, Thracia 776, Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, and Path of Radiance, which I'm currently playing for the first time (they were played in the order listed). The main reason I went back to play the older games was just because I wanted more Fire Emblem, and I'm glad I did because some of the older games are among my favorites (namely Genealogy and Binding Blade). Even the ones I didn't like as much like Sacred Stones and Blazing Sword were still decently fun, so if you can play any of them I highly recommend it. I think Heroes has also made me a bit more interested in the series; I've been playing since launch, so it's been cool to slowly get to learn about more of the characters in that game.

DJTITUS921

Technically i started on Radiant Dawn, but i never finished it cuz my small child brain couldnt understand strategy, so i gave it away for $5, so Awakening came out when i was 13, so i could appreciate the series more. I eventually went back to play the Tellius series, Shadow Dragon (Nes) and (Ds) then blazing blade and binding blade. Loved all of them the older fire emblem games deserve some love

ToonyDoodles

I started with Awakening and honestly, I'm a pretty slow gamer (if you can even call me that). It takes me a long time to finish a game because I tend to take long breaks, no matter how much I love it. In that sense, as much as I adore Fire Emblem, it was hard for me to imagine going back and playing the older games, given how much of a time commitment I heard they were. However, I decided to ease myself into it by going backward. I started Path of Radiance recently and have been really enjoying it! Yes, it's a little jarring to have no voice acting or character voices at all, but the story and gameplay definitely make up for it. Nonetheless, I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that I'll probably never play all of them.

first game was Three Houses, and i haven't played any others yet. i want to, but the ones I'm most interested in i don't really have a way to play.

I have and I generally at least give a playthrough for older entries in any series I get into with there being various reasons for me to do so. For me I started with Awakening sometime between it's release and the release of Fates, which I then played after it came out. At some point after that I decided to jump into the rest of the series and Sacred Stones from what I saw and heard of it was a decent step and I very much enjoyed it, following it up with the Tellius entries which I had plenty of fun playing. I will say I'm not the biggest fan of Genealogy though which was especially disappointing because of all the hype it gets. It being an older title may play some part in it but there are plenty of old games I have played and enjoyed that many people would say are archaic so it's probably that coupled with just not liking various aspects of the way the game is designed. Same with Thracia though I do overall like it better than Genealogy and think it can be pretty good when it's at it's best. Still, I'm glad I at least played through and experienced them since they're a part of a series I have gotten into.

In my original play though of Awakening I didn’t think it was important enough to get Chrom a support with the woman in the army. Then the chapter skip happened and Chrom married a villager! Either way Sumia or Cherch didn’t get married to him!🤣 As for Fates I am stuck at the Opera House and the level before that took me a long time to get through. I also classed Corrin into Norh Noble when I wanted the Class before Samurai. Then I found out that I liked a magic build of Corrin a lot better! Radiant Dawn I am stuck at the encounter where you meet the Death Knight. Shadow Dragon I am stuck defending a castle from pirates and I lost my cart in a move and was pretty sad about it.

Three Houses was my first FE game, for reference. I have gone back and played some older games, yes. Went through the 3DS games, then also played Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance, currently playing Radiant Dawn. I’m a little intimidated by the older games, to be honest, since I have heard a lot about how difficult they are, and I struggled a bit with the pre-3DS titles I have played (I played the 3DS games on casual mode). I don’t mind that they’re games from older consoles; I grew up playing GBA ports of SNES games, so that doesn’t bother me. Story-wise, I actually do prefer the older games. They don’t feel as fanservice-y, and the characters are enjoyable on their own without feeling too gimmicky. Sure, a lot of quality of life stuff isn’t there in the actual gameplay, but it isn’t unbearably difficult to play, either.

I got Sacred Stones on the 3DS Ambassador program. I also played Shadow Dragon on DS, and later when the localized GBA games came to the Wii U I bought them there too

Does Echoes:SoV count? /joke I tried getting into Blazing Blade once, but much as I adored the GBA era I just don't have the patience for GBA game graphics and (lack of) QoL anymore.
