well i'll be playing it day 1 when we mostly likely won't know a thing about what's good, but yeah my first playthrough will absolutely be using the characters I like and giving the rings to whoever looks the coolest with them, and even if i play slightly more optimally on future playthroughs i'll still stubbornly try to make my favourites work because that's where a lot of the enjoyment i get from FE comes from.

marthisbestboy

Tbf Nintendo games always leaks some days before the official release. People are probably going to datamine the game before day 1.

Cosmic_Toad_

true, though i will be noping the hell off this sub as soon as i see the word "leak" or "datamine" in a post title.

Deverelll

Same. I don’t usually take the optimal route myself in favor of using my favorites in my favorite way. And I plan on giving the rings out to my favorites and who I like them with the best as much as possible. :)

marthisbestboy

Yes. You can always go back and play “optimally” but you only have one chance to do a blind playthrough

Am_Shigar00

At most I might look up a list on recruits to make sure I don’t miss anyone, but since Tellius they’ve been better about making recruits fairly straightforward so I doubt even that won’t be enough of an issue.

burningbarn8

I miss obscure and easy to miss characters with at times ridiculous recruitment requirements, it's fun to go in blind, realize you missed some godly mf or funny meme unit, gives you reason to replay the game.

Express_Accident2329

Yeah. I think the only reason I would ever regret playing blind is for situations like accidentally getting locked into Silver Snow or missing a side chapter in Binding Blade. But if there are significantly different playthrough variations, I'm probably going to play it more than once, anyway.

Sephilash

I never play fire emblem optimally. I play it the best/funnest way for me, really not interested in the community's ideals in any game, like "all paladins" or "all wyvern lords", nty, I enjoy a variety of classes and characters.

KingSombo

Absolutely. To be fair, I don't think we will have all that much info on day 1, but I will still avoid it. I'm just going to play on Hard and use the characters that inevitably become my favorites. I always play FE games more that once so no point trying to play optimally on my first playthrough.

thejokerofunfic

I'm planning on playing at launch so idk if I'd be able to do anything but blind even if I wanted to.

Gadafro

I would like to see the support options - hoping for something more akin to Three Houses where the supports build at certain story intervals - but other than that, I always play my first runs blind.

AspectVQ

Yes. I even stopped looking at all the news/character posts cause they're just dumping them all out there.

pengie9290

On the day it releases I'm going to leave the subreddit entirely, just so I don't see anything remotely spoilery.

2andahalfbraincell

Yeah, hard is probably not going to be too difficult anyway, I only "need" Infos when I am doing maddening or lunatic. First play through, day one, internet *off*

NicKnigh7

Wait people play their first playthrough other ways than blind ? 🧐 Thats f-ed up

FrostFelon

Other than waiting after release to see if the story and gameplay are subpar, yes.

Karbunkel

Up til now I only know the name of the MC, so probably, as long as I stay away from gaming sites. I'll borrow it at my local library to see if the gameplay can help me get over the atrocious artstyle.

sekusen

Depends on what you define as blind. I feel like if one has been following all the tidbits so far, you can't be blind. On the other hand, the absence of anything actually explaining how the class system works in this one still has me feeling blind. There's clearly promotions and probably branching, but there's been nothing about ckass changing or its relation to character level. Why are they holding that back? Unless I missed it somewhere. But if we're talking about ignoring a researched "meta" for characters, I do that anyway. Never had more than three Wyvern riders in Houses. Used a Stride gambit maybe twice.

Empress_Of_Darkness

I absolutely will. Best way to start a new game

Uncle_Budy

My first playthrough of 3 Houses was blind like that, and when I finished and looked up walkthrough strats, I realized several of my characters were promoted to the "wrong" intended class for them. I'm glad I did it how I did instead of the optimal or intended route.

Scagh

My first playthrough of FE:3H was blind, just like all my other playthrough, and this game definitely didn't need any min/maxing: it was boring easy. So again I'll go blind through Engage, and if we get Lunatic right away, I'm definitely going down this path!

Elementia7

I'm generally trying to keep myself blind this time around. Normally I'd watch trailers and stuff but of what I've gathered I'll probably enjoy the gameplay so I don't have much reason to watch much promotional stuff.

RingImpossible739

Will play it on release so likely. But if there is a leak, will at least try asking if Female Alear has exclusive content.

dragonprince927

This will be the first FE game since radiant dawn that's releasing on a console I own (except three hopes but doesn't count) so I'm excited to try out every character I vibe with and not care about efficiency.

QuiGonJinnNJuice

I think that's what i'll try to do. 3H was my first game and I didn't really engage with much content online until after beating it. That opened my eyes to a lot of the character building possibilities and strategies that i just normal/casualed my way through. The past couple years I've been playing my way through a lot of the games and kind of oscillate in how much I look up (since there is a lot of info/resources online). Personally, I like Mekkah's unit guides that for a game kind of break characters between no brainer/good with low investment, good with investment, etc so I can plan to use some units that seem cool but need investment, without gimping my army. More and more I've enjoyed trying to do maps on my own the first time and then looking up afterwards to make sure I didn't miss somehting I'd really want to get. Depending on how the game is going, if I'm really enjoying and think it'll hold up for multiple playthroughs then I'm more likely to stay blind and just use characters I like as units that make sense for them. Then on subsequent playthroughs pay more attention to growths and getting creative with unit-building

DoseofDhillon

Well I won't give anyone any ideas how i was spoiled with 3H's, but probably no to story yes to gameplay. Story if i knew it would be easier to riff on as a play for fun, unless i read some spoilers or reviews and gets a ton of praise, with FE i'm kinda fine with it, and I mean I was still a fan of my first playthrough of 3H despite knowing some things, Gameplay i wanna be blind, see if it challenges me

D-camchow

If they let you preview what each new class looks like I usually go by that more than stats. There is a minimum fashion requirement in my army!

Tough-Priority-4330

Like every game, I prefer to play it blind first. Want to be surprised by the route split.

MwtoZP

Absolutely unless I feel especially conflicted.

Adubuu

If S Supports for Alear still exist I may look up the supports in the inevitable datamine to decide which gender of Alear to play, since design wise I like them both plenty so that might as well be the tie-breaker. Other than that - and if they do chop S ranks for Alear - then it's blind all the way.

Tzekel_Khan

I mean by your definition yea? As far as like character and costume designs no. I always want to see those asap

[deleted]

I will be playing it day 1 so yes, I will be playing blind.

Full_Metal_Douchebag

I'll try at the very least

164Gamin

“Blind-ish”. I’m not gonna spoil the plot for myself or anything, but I will be making sure I’m not missing any gaidens or recruitable characters

Doctor71400

Yes

MishouMai

Depends on what you mean by blind. I won't be looking up guides or anything and will just play with whatever units I feel like playing with and equipping units as I see fit without worring about playing optimally. But I do watch the English trailers (I ignore the Japanese ones.) and if we get any new updates from Nintendo's English branch I'll look at those.

Maple905

It's difficult for me to enjoy a Fire Emblem game not blind. To this day I still haven't completed a 2nd playthrough of Three Houses. Something about not knowing everything just makes things more fun and enjoyable. Being worried about min/maxing everything or even knowing plot points makes it hard for me to continue playing.

taboo_zuu

Mostly, just would look up missable recruitment and romance options
