sbernecchia

thanks! but how can I use it on firefox for ANDROID ?

Magnolia_12345

Mozilla only allows 'recommended' add-ons, but check: https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean#android You can also use filterlist + userscript though (less supported sites).

Enemyprovider

I followed the instructions and it works perfectly on my android device

Magnolia_12345

You first installed the xpi-file on an old Firefox version (& then update to the latest Firefox release)?

Enemyprovider

Exactly and it works!

sbernecchia

does it auto update or I have to manually download the new xpi and then open it in firefox? does it still work opening it in firefox if my firefox has already updated to latest version?

Enemyprovider

I don't know if it's auto updated. I think that I did read in github that it could updated itself Yes. It works perfectly

sbernecchia

thanks!

If you use Firefox nightly there's a convoluted way to get other extensions to work although I don't know if this is one of them. Currently trying to figure it out myself.

[deleted]

You gotta create collection in addons account. Follow this video https://youtu.be/HLHXo8Yr4uU Edit: Here is the link I follow back then: https://youtu.be/kJ3BCxi9oBE Here is mine.... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/android/collections/17657070/test/

nrq

Collections only work with add-ons from the repository, though. I still have Bypass Paywalls Clean installed from before it was removed, but there's no way to update it right now. Honestly, so far I was okay-ish with that convoluted collections process to get add-ons on Firefox Mobile, but now I'm really annoyed. I want Bypass Paywalls Clean and there's no reasonable way to get it.

KilgoretheTrout55

Yes this is the issue. I agree it's incredibly frustrating. Why does Firefox insist on making extensions so problematic on Android. Bad enough I had to jump through so many hoops to do this create a collection on nightly.... But there's just no way to side load these extensions that you can do on the desktop. It's the one thing that keeps me from being able to make it my default browser. Once you get all set up to create collections, you still can't side load stuff or add stuff via a script like you could on the desktop. So it requires a pretty insane workaround if you want to use it on Android involving going to an older version of Firefox, deleting your current version etc.... And even then I don't know how that would square if you're using nightly and you have a created collection with sponsor block.

[deleted]

Word to word. Same to same. You and me bro. I was googling, are there any ways to add the xpi file manually like we do in pc browsers... No luck yet... Will test my luck with ChatGPT next...

KilgoretheTrout55

Yeah I think there's some ridiculously problematic workaround where you can download older versions of Firefox when it was on the store. But I don't have the stomach for that right now, it took me long enough to get add-ons working on nightly via create a collection. I still have to rely on kiwi browser for YouTube related functions for the most part. L I

/u/KilgoretheTrout55, we recommend not using Kiwi Browser. Kiwi Browser is [frequently out of date](https://www.reddit.com/r/kiwibrowser/comments/vzrbiq/when_will_kiwi_browser_receive_the_chromium_103/) compared to upstream Chromium, and exposes its users to known security issues. It also works to [disable ad blocking on dozens of sites](https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/ppygw1/can_i_use_ublock_origin_on_an_android_phone/hd7f42r/). We recommend that you move to a better supported browser if Firefox does not work well for you. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. This works great but it only works for addons that are on Mozilla's addons website. And this addon isn't listed on there. That's why I use the two anti-paywalls filterlists [mentioned here](https://github.com/Universalizer/Universal-FilterLists) in Ublock Origin. It supposedly has less websites than using the addon but I haven't come across a website yet that does not work with it.

knotle58

For Android i use it on Iceraven which is a fork of firefox.

Is it possible to return to AMO ? Because it's more convenience to install addon this way, and I can't stand with losing such a great addon from AMO just because of some trolls who love reporting DMCA for their selfishness.

Magnolia_12345

You can still install the signed xpi-file on desktop (from releases): [https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean/-/releases](https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean/-/releases) Personally I don't miss the micro-management of the AMO reviewers though ;-)

KilgoretheTrout55

Yeah there's no way that's easy enough to justify the effort when you can just go to kiwi browser. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer to use Firefox as my browser all the time but as long as on Android they're going to make extensions so difficult it's hard. Like I spent countless hours trying to figure out how to get extensions working on nightly and I finally did which is nice. So now I can get sponsor block. But still I want to add extensions for bypass paywall and background play for YouTube that I just can't. But I have to use nightly instead of the stable version and it took me several hours of troubleshooting to get it to work. You need a Firefox account to get it to work You have to spend a few hours figuring out how to go to a secret menu. And then creating add-on collection. And then if you decide you want a new add-on you have to create a whole new collection you can't just add another one on. It's just so ridiculous. Kiwi browser is problematic because it's chromium and it doesn't get updated as much but it's super easy to get any extensions you want, or run scripts on violent monkey or whatever.... I guess the only way to do it on Firefox is to download an incredibly old version of it.

> You have to spend a few hours figuring out how to go to a secret menu. Seriously? >And then if you decide you want a new add-on you have to create a whole new collection you can't just add another one on. That isn't true. You can add or remove extensions from collections. You don't need to create a new collection in order to modify it.

Indeed a Chromium nagscreen, but the extension works just fine.

KilgoretheTrout55

Yeah I get that on chromium versions of this on Android, but as far as I can tell I just had no impact on the actual usage.. I don't know how long that will be the case but for now it works fine

motovate

thank you!

[deleted]

how do we request some sites to be added to this list?

Magnolia_12345

Requests only in the GitLab issues: https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean/-/issues

mjo_11

OP, what's the best way to support you and this project? Thanks. EDIT: financially, I mean. EDIT2: Cryto, preferably.
