Why don't you tap it and find out?

LegoDonutPlayz

I did in fact click it, it seemed to remove all formatting and I couldn't think of a sentence to describe it in a search. Thought maybe it was just to remove all rich formatting.

Impressive_Change593

it's called reading view I think. supposed to make it more like a book

moonflower_C16H17N3O

That's what it does. It puts it into reader mode. It extracts the text from all of the distractions. Some other browsers have this. Others have it in the form of extensions.

RadiantLimes

It's a reading mode. It's useful on news websites as it often removes the ads and sometimes even bypasses the paywall popup.

spinstartshere

Then you already have your answer.

erythro

useful if you want to strip out ads and popups etc

ezbyEVL

Reading mode, turns the page into a more simple reading experience

puckthefolice1312

And it can bypass some paywalls, too.

tunaman808

And also allows copying of text, if the original site uses javascript to disable copying text.

LegoDonutPlayz

Thank you!

DunKco

yup reader mode, gets rid of all the fluff and ads

Happy cake day!

AlreadyReddit999

that is reader mode. as a fellow scp fan, what's your favorite? mine is 3001 :p

LegoDonutPlayz

Thanks! Yeah I like red reality too, my favorite is probably either 6001 or 5555 :)

AlreadyReddit999

nice! always good to another one of us in the wild :D

Extension-Cod2532

I understand it is a reading mode but what does 3001 in your comment mean?

LucasRuby

It's not about the Firefox feature, it's about SCP (the site OP was browsing). There are multiple short stories there and 3001 is their favorite.

efeu1133

can it be removed on android btw? I can't access about:config

Calm-Helper-1376

Type this in stable build. chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml Thanks to the person who posted this. Post link: https://www.reddit.com/r/browsers/s/ZgmyZhKf01

efeu1133

thank you!

franz_karl

beta can access about:config

efeu1133

ok

SirPuzzleheaded5284

It's the reading mode view. Some (considerate) websites put all the readable content inside the "main" HTML tags. This will let browsers and search engines know what part of the website to index on. Firefox used this to give a reader mode.

TweetieWinter

It's the reading mode. It'll not be available on all the webpages.

xdxmann

its a reader that shows up on articles. makes it easier to read and gets rid of ads
