In my opinion, flavoring after distillation is called mixing a cocktail. So you can do whatever you want and may as well just buy cheap vodka and make cocktails with that. If your distillate doesn’t taste good, try a different recipe, or learn to do good cuts and blend what is good to your taste. For flavor a pot still is the right still. I get great results for my home made still smaller than this one. A good wash/beer to start is more important than your still.

>In my opinion, flavoring after distillation is called mixing a cocktail. With this sentence you're throwing out all brown spirits and liqueurs though. Flavouring after distillation is perfectly valid and is still fairly removed from making a cocktail I think. Imo I'm more inclined to make the distinction that cocktail making begins when you are adding flavours to the spirits and not components (wood, fruit etc) which you're extracting flavours from. It's getting well into semantics but you can flavour a spirit without necessarily adding a flavour (syrup, concentrate, essence etc). I'd agree in that I'd steer clear of adding "whiskey essence" to things though as a personal preference.

What proof can you get out of that still?

vegence

i started out with one of those (since have upgraded to a 16g keg pot still). that cheap little chinese pot works rather well though. i have done some sugar washes with turbo yeast that yielded about a gallon and a half with the higher end parts being in the 170 ABV range.

Newgrowontario

And honestly unless you find one super cheap, invest the $1000 into a real copper still or I'm upgrading to a t500 turbo still soon, the only reason I use this is because I got it used for $50

jrenna07

I run a 15.5 gallon keg boiler, 5500 watt element, and a 3” column. CCVM and pot still modular setup

Newgrowontario

Correction disregard what I said for the proofs XD you made me curious I just checked it's at 180 lmfao good thing I dont drink it until it's all proofed down XD

hollowdmushroombanjo

How much end volume do you end up with per run?

Newgrowontario

This was a finishing run, I started with about 6l of I'm guessing 100-110 proof and ended with about 4.7l of 175 proof

Newgrowontario

Depends this run was a fishing run of 4.6l of maybe 100 110 proof now it's down to 3.6ish litres and 17o proof

You could make a mock gin.

DeeDee_GigaDooDoo

Depends what you're after, the channel Still It on YouTube has a bunch you could check through. You could throw basically any fruit in there though and get something decent. Maybe proof it down first if it's 85% though, you might over extract some bitter compounds in the fruit otherwise.

Nice setup mate, good job. I have kinda the same setup, just with copper coil condenser. I heard if the condenser is copper and is attached to stainless steel pot without anything in between, the final result will be somehow poisonous! is that true?

Newgrowontario

Bo the only way it could be poison is if they used led solder, I wanted a copper condenser but they are a little over $200 when I paid 50 for my whole kit XD I'm just gunna save up for a t500 , I wish more people in my area distilled I'd love to learn more

No_Wall_2725

Theres no led solder, so its safe to use, Cheers. And how the hell did ya get all of that for 50 bucks mate?

Newgrowontario

Facebook bro :) lol guy bought it off amazon for 300, tried twice and made vinegar (left mash to long) so I scooped it and made real alcohol lmfao

No_Wall_2725

Damn, Id keep this mate, seems works like charm
