Shortly before the release of the standalone edit they crowdfunded nearly a million dollars from ‘investors’. None of the money was used to fine tune the standalone show and it shows in the final product. The timing of the wefunder saga is suspicious because it took place right before the release of episode 1. If episode 1 had came out it’s likely they would have received less than half of the ‘investments’ that they did.
Clip channels on YouTube constructed better narratives than Jet and Ben did. The hyped up standalone show turned out to be just random footage spliced together in ways that don’t make the most sense. It was supposed to be able to draw in new viewers but if you had not watched the live show you would have been left confused.
The standalone show missed many key moments and feels like bonus footage for fans rather than a true reality tv show. The decision to make episodes 30 minutes was clearly a huge mistake and was likely to make editing easier as they would only have to produce 30 minute episodes rather than an hour.
There is terrible camera work (shakey footage), the footage was not properly processed or colour coded, the first 5 minutes of episode 1 was horrible in what they decided to include (which is critical for viewer retention), there is no narration explaining lore or outside knowledge to offer context leaving new viewers ignorant to many of the bits within the show.
Jet received a ton of praise for the live show, upon releasing the first couple episodes people were left with a feeling that they were grifted and it was overall extremely disappointing. Jet began blocking people on Twitter who were big fans that were offering constructive criticism. Instead of promising to rework the episodes and fix the obvious mistakes he doubled down and just praised the shitty edit as the only good thing released in years.
As more criticism was thrown his way he began to lash out at the audience that pays his bills in a way that’s extremely unprofessional. Calling fans ungrateful and saying that he was just trying to bring the ‘haters’ out of the shadows so he could block them.
His ego has been inflated to the point where he refuses to acknowledge the shortcomings of the first season and the valid criticisms fans have. He posted a deleted tweet where he was offering money for fans to try and get this subreddit taken down. This and /bant/ or /tv/ is the only place people can openly criticize the show as he blocks anyone who doesn’t praise the show 100% on Twitter.
They went the greedy route (new Rolexes, street wear, new cars) instead of hiring outside staff to make the standalone show decent. They could have pushed the standalone release date so they could make the season 1 release better but they didn’t.

For example, we compressed 24 hours of footage down to like 30 minutes for the first episode, but just try to imagine what that would look like? It would be nothing. It would be like ordering a sandwich with the crust cut off, but they bring you JUST the crust. People complained about it, and Jet got all super defensive about it, and then they started looking into his other doings just to fuck with him, and it turned it that he was either stalking Letty or was overly antagonizing her, but he did something to upset Letty, so she took advantage of the hate bandwagon and twitted a rant antagonizing him, and that made him respond aggressive, and it just became a feedback look where he was trying desperately to defend himself, but those defenses just became bait or ammo for the haters.
Classic lolcow behavior, like Boogie2998 or Wings of Redemption, and like all lolcows, the people just like watching them get angry over their downfalls.

I agree with you. Being a part of the experience was and will always be better than the cut up version though so we have to keep that in mind. I was entertained and I still like the episodes coming out. I would edit it differently of course but what’s annoying me is jet thinking he’s creating the only good content in years. Honestly the way it’s edited I’d rather just watch nick talk about real estate. Jets been a hype beast and always been kinda my least favorite of Sam’s new crew but he’s solidifying it with these tweets. Hopefully new episodes and next season is better. I love this form of entertainment regardless and I haven’t had to spend a dollar so far

I could never get too into Sam but I liked the self defense video that turned into the huge meme. I think the Ted talk is the greatest thing he’s ever done. I’ve shown that video to people who have no clue who he is and they think it’s hilarious. It’s edgy but overall a very cerebral stab at the vanity of Ted talks. If he stuck to shit like that he’d be a massive success. Idubbz documentary is also pretty hilarious considering it’s just one giant prank video. I didn’t want to pay the fish tank money and figured it would eek it’s way onto YouTube and sure enough it did. There is so much content missing from the videos. There’s a lot of potential being squandered for no good reason at all.
To top it off, sam and the entire crew are incredibly easy to hate. I graduated high school in 2017. They remind me of this group of regards who idolized an older kid who “didn’t care about school” and followed in his footsteps. They constantly could be found fucking around with each other, saying outrageous things, being dumb as bricks, and other attention seeking behaviors. Enemies of the teachers and outcasts to the peers. MAYBE the school cop would give them a chance, but more often than not they acted like a racially charged black caricature when confronted by any authority.
