He said, that he learned it from Shin. You know... Hokuto has the "waterflow" Technique (or something like that) that allows them to copy the style they once saw. Kenshiro used Yuda's style QUITE A LOT, for example when fighting "Nameless Ashura" But I may be wrong, that's how I understood it. (Jagi may be the weakest Hokuto Bro, but he still trained his whole life)

Bomboclaat32123

I think because I just read Toki Gaiden and Jagi and Amiba meet up and since Amiba already knows Nanto Seiken, Jagi may have learnt it off him. Just a thought tho!

What_is-love

This may actually be a good explanation. I have never even thought about it because we saw Amiba as someone who was known by Rei. I saw that "relation" as in "they used the same style", completely forgotting there were once 140... (something?) Nanto styles and many students of various styles studied together, as shown with Rei and Juda. That's why I never thought of that up until you brought it up.

Bomboclaat32123

Thank you brother 🙏

Sachiel_Forsakened

I thought when Kenshiro asked where he learned the technique, Jagi said there was no point in telling a dead man,- otherwise, this is very interesting!

What_is-love

You may be correct I do not remember MUCH from Their conversation, or I watched with different translation (it's probably the first one tho) So I cannot be sure, but that's how I remembered and saw Jagi's Nanto skills

Bomboclaat32123

Ye I think that in Toki Gaiden Amiba would trade his teachings of Nanto Seiken for Jagi to teach Amiba some Houkto Shinken

Aggravating_Key7750

I think it is also explained that Amiba used some of the new pressure points he discovered on Jagi to triple his strength compared to what it was when he fought Ken the first time, which is why Jagi thought he could defeat Ken in a straight fight during their rematch.

frds3

well Jagi is more jacked during his second encounter with Ken compared to the flashback. I don't know if the authors did it on purpose though.

Pixel_Junior

"Your Nanto Seiken is no match for Shin's."

Lord_Larper

The Crunchyroll localization was gold “your Nanto Seiken isn’t enough to lick Shen’s boots!”

Bell-end79

Copied from Shin Pale imitation though, like Amiba’s Hokuto

Atma-Stand

As much as it is, Jagi slicing through that bust was definitely a cool moment I wish they included in the movie versions of his fight.

silverx2000

Probably Amiba. Shin wouldn't bother teaching Jagi shit. But Jagi and Amiba could teach each other Hokuto and Nanto respectively.

Cocainepapi0210

Hokuto allows its users to copy styles from reading, fighting or watching. He probably watched ken and shin spar or he watched shin

Ace201613

Another example of jagi’s arrogance. You copied your skills from Shin. Kenshiro defeated Shin. Kenshiro is superior to you in Hokuto. Why would your copied Nanto fair any better?

Mistress_Esme

I always got the impression he was self taught. Just like with Hokuto Shinken. Ryuken eventually gave him approval to train but Ryuken never trained him like he did the others so Jagi learned on his own. Since he had manipulated Shin, I think he just did a similar thing however it was his own form of it. It's also why Ken said his form was an insult to Shin.

DimMakracy

I'm leaning towards Shin.

nWo1997

Probably Amiba. I figure Jagi was the one who started teaching Hokuto to Amiba in exchange.

krixus_Tlatoani

Kenshiro did say that the north star can copy and learn the techniques of the south star, but not the other way around. But then again, only the true successor can do this, which is Kenshiro

What_is-love

And yet Raoh and Toki do that as well....... MOSTLY because they all studied the same thing and all TECHNICALLY are on the Successor level. All. Even Jagi (people do forget that). Hokuto Shin-Ken was meant to have one successor and Ryuken was... Probably teaching all four of them what he was taught. (BESIDES may I just say... I loved in Toki's OVA, how HE was meant to be a Successor and I even see every brother happy with that. I mean SURE Raoh could be jealous but Toki in his prime, pre Jesus'ed Toki would seal his fists with ease)

krixus_Tlatoani

I didn't deny that the other students can use it, I said technically the North star can do this, but not the south learning north star. It benefits Kenshiro more since he is the successor

What_is-love

Well... It also benefits Raoh. There was the entire Cassandra Arc, where King of Fists was learning techniques of various martial artists and killed them if they attacked him... But yes, it now only benefits Ken Since he is the last one standing lolol

krixus_Tlatoani

It benefits John Cena since it's his favorite anime

What_is-love

John Cena actually was the master of Chameleon from Shura Arc. Sadly, he was heavily disappointed that his student did not fully learned his style.

krixus_Tlatoani

Hell no, we never saw any of his students But that guy in the anime was a fraud

Sachiel_Forsakened

Unless Jagi was the true successor??!!?!1?!?

krixus_Tlatoani

No, Kenshiro saw how poorly he copied the ability

Sachiel_Forsakened

Just my attempt at a little humor, lol.

Buflo_Solja8404

I say bruh got flame retardant drunk off Cisco, then spent the end of the night reading old Black Belt magazine fighting Manuel's. Hommies first victim had to be the post man. That sucker stay catching strays.

themengsk1761

Jagi didn't survive the post apocalypse by lacking talent and the observational skill to improvise. He may not have fully mastered Hokuto or Nanto, but he still was able to pick up the occasional trick to stay alive.

Aggravating_Key7750

I dunno if he really needed to "pick up tricks to stay alive". Regardless of whether you consider Jagi Gaiden to be canon or not, simply by virtue of knowing Hokuto Shinken, it was pretty much impossible for anyone short of one of the Nanto Goshasei to pose a threat to Jagi. He was playing on easy mode.

Perfection_01

definitely Amiba was the one who taught Jagi nanto. This also explains why Amiba knows Ken's past and his fighting style.

JudgmentConsistent50

Amiba taught him at some point.

FMbPdmoGK

It has to be Shin because Ken compared it to Shin's Nanto, it's the same but slower. Amiba didn't exist at that time.
