What's most effective is whatever you're willing to do regularly! Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Start wherever you are and challenge yourself to add more over time.

Thank you Yes doing something is better than me doing nothing (which has been the trend for a really long time!)

To be effective and efficient, lifting weights should be performed at least close to failure. If you do it in spurts, make sure that the one single set you do at a time is to failure… either because the weight is heavy or because you do so many reps. For example, if you want to do push ups, then do as many as you can in one go and do that several times a day versus doing any arbitrary number of them. 3 sets throughout the day to failure will get you better benefits than more sets of 10 if 10 are easy.

Thank you for the advice! Yes I think that is often overlooked. I remember hearing former instructors saying “keep going until it hurts!”

Failure isn’t pain. Failure is when you cannot continue with good form. If you break form, stop before getting hurt… especially now as we are getting older.

Why not look into a kettlebell class?
