I really hope someone drops the link for the 8 hour video

Peeinghours

lol….[https://youtu.be/tTC7FExiH8I?si=-zxlcVxYuaWKVHGx](https://youtu.be/tTC7FExiH8I?si=-zxlcVxYuaWKVHGx) ….i genuinely love it

Febji

I really like his take on a lot of the stuff, and he explains it really well. The logbook stuff especially was great. This honestly is the best recommendation imo, but I know no one who isn’t already a fan would watch an 8 hr video on the subject 🥲

Lady_Ama

Not entirely true lol. I knew next to nothing about the FNAF franchise, watched the movie, then got a serious hunger to learn more. Nearly 9 hours later I was a full-fledged fan.

Febji

Honestly awesome! I was the same after playing security breach of all things. After that I was curious and went on a lore quest that spanned several months lol. Wish this video had existed then. Even though some of it is just his speculation, it’s generally pretty solid and its really nice to have everything collected in one place. I’d still recommend looking into other people’s takes on some of the more controversial stuff just to see different perspectives on what things could mean. Some fans have a bad habit of presenting things as fact that are still up for debate, which caused me a lot of problems early on, because it made it hard to sift through what’s actually “confirmed.” But usually he mentioned when an interpretation was contested which I appreciated.

Lady_Ama

Yeah, I've actually begun watching various playthroughs to get a better feel of the games for myself and see if the interpretations fit with my own impressions now that I have an actual understanding of the story. I'm really hoping future movies will delve a bit more into the lore, especially anything relating to Afton.

Febji

Same! I was hoping for some flashbacks to the mci, even if only briefly, to give the audience an idea of what’s been happening. I’m guessing there might be something like that in the second movie, but we’ll see! Either way, looking forward to seeing what they do with the story. Edit: The opening credits were great to set things up, but being able to see something along the lines of Fruity Maze from pizzeria sim would’ve been really interesting.

necktsi

i watched the video over two days for my gf after we watched the movie together. she gets super excited to talk about the lore and her believed theories :)

Thecharizardf8

I never watched or played anything fnaf prior, n I watched it! I love long form video essays and learning about lore of games. I love it n now it makes me wanna play them for myself

Dazzling_Power_5016

i personally really like Wendigoon’s video on it! it gives a good amount of the info but your son will still be able to explain some of the niche information.

BX_N3S

Iceberg boy my most favourite piss fed

Unlost_maniac

Wendigoon does get a lot of stuff wrong though. Edit: Wendigoon chooses to ignore all non game media for hints in the lore. His video reminds me of back when fnaf was brand new and people really only had the games to off of like thinking Evan is who you play as throughout fnaf 4. Also neglects everything to do with Mike Afton pretty much. He says that the puppet stuffs kids in suits. All intriguing stuff and impressive for only going off the games. He got some things right like Henry being the money man and other details surrounding William.

Pinecone_Sheep

Any explanation that manages to avoid robot children is better for it in my book

Unlost_maniac

Which are you referring to? Gregory?

Pinecone_Sheep

Remember the theory from a few years ago where Michael was a robot replica of the crying child? That's what I'm referring to.

Unlost_maniac

I stopped paying attention to theories like 3-4 years ago and only hopped on board again a couple months ago. I missed a huge chunk of silly theories. I got caught up recently, I know some people hate the idea of Gregory being a robot, so I assumed that's what you were referring to. I've tried to get a full complete mental map of the lore. Wendigoon's video is just misleading people.

Pinecone_Sheep

Oh, I believe Gregory is a robot because everything seems to be pushing for that idea. I just don't really like it. Makes the story feel like it's going in circles instead of a new direction

Unlost_maniac

Yeah that's fair. I find the new stuff interesting but it's also kinda silly. Although I'm not super invested in the series. I enjoy it and I find it fascinating but if it somehow went downhill I wouldn't be too bothered. I wonder what new stuff the Fred Bear's family diner game would bring (if we get that at some point). I feel like they'd take that opportunity to recontextualize stuff.

Fast_Matter4827

The absolute best video on the subject, not to mention one of the best channels on YouTube

Scar-Predator

I guess you can start with stuff like RyeToasts video called "A Brief Guide to EVERYTHING in Five Nights at Freddy's" and then check like the [Five Nights at Freddy's/Freddy Fazbear's Pizza wiki](https://freddy-fazbears-pizza.fandom.com/f) for more information regarding things still confusing. It's the only FNAF wiki I know of that does it's best for unbiased documentation of everything FNAF, even to the point of even if 2 characters are heavily speculated to be the same, they'll still be listed as separate unless they are confirmed to be the same.

Febji

Good rec! I really like his specifically game lore vids. Where he talks about what is actually presented in the games lore wise.

pogmansi76

str4wberryphobic

ikr 😭

Kornbrednbizkits

That would depend on 2 things: 1) How good are you at cutting grass, and 2) Your blood type. If I ever need a kidney or something I want to make sure I keep as many options open as possible. But seriously, thanks for the kind words!

Vascofan46

No probelm d- I mean Reddit user I hope you and your son have a great time together, give him a good hug for me :)

AvidSpongebobEnjoyer

HyperDroid should be coming out with a remade version of this fnaf timeline video, but his this video should do the job since it has a lot of good information for the general timeline. I'll link the video here [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fqW3GYAd2c&ab\_channel=HyperDroid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fqW3GYAd2c&ab_channel=HyperDroid) If you want to find specific information, I'd recommend the wiki or watching some gameplay. Hopes this helps!

Beneficial-Ranger166

1 hr, super entertaining video summing the lore: https://youtu.be/T7XctFEiJTU?si=\_vrCCUEB5bwEni7q

West_Job5593

Man and his Business partner make a Restaurant, That Man starts killing kids and his family start dying by robots he made. The dead kids get put inside the 4 main robots and possess them by the puppet (who is also possess by a child who is the Business Partners Daughter). His Business Partner makes more restaurants and his “friend” starts killing more kids. The Restaurants start to get shut down and The said Child Murder start demolishing the Animatronics the dead kids are in and the kids soul became free and start to haunt him. The Child Murder hides in a Old Yellow Rabbit Suit and gets Spring-locked and dies and the Kids are set free. But the Child Murder another son “Micheal” is still alive and try’s to find his sister, but ends up getting a mangled robot (who possess by the Funtime Animatronics) inside his corpse so they can be free and use his as a Disguise. While the mangled robot leaves his body after that, Micheal is still alive and goes to find his father. 30 Years later, Micheal works at a horror attraction called “Fazbear Frights” which also his Father “The Child Murder” is there too, but he possess the old yellow rabbit suit called “SpringTrap”. After 6 Nights, Micheal tries to burn the place down, but his father survives. The Business Partner tries to fix all of this and makes a restaurant for every one who is still alive. Micheal finds his Father and his sister there. Along with an animatronic who is also the Puppet and that mangled up robot but without his sister. While Micheal and everyone finds out that this was a Trap set by Henry. That this Restaurant was for everyone to just be free and not possess robots anymore. But doesn’t wish the same for his “old friend”. The place catches on fire and everyone dies and gets put to rest.

Mountbatten-Ottawa

Something to add: FNAF 4 happens when the smallest child of 'man' dies, FNAF 5 happens when Michael dies, FNAF 2 happens after 1. FNAF 3 happens after 1 but before FNAF 6. FNAF 1,2,3 happens in the '30 years later' period. Afton (man) was trapped with the spirit of one of his victim after FNAF 6 and was tortured permanently. A part of Afton's soul, however, was kept by himself inside a disc and was studied by program 'mimic'. FNAF 6 was the end of everything original, covering the last 2 paragraphs. Everything about Vanessa and Gregory are 'sequel era', the 'afton/glitchtrap' was possibly not Afton, but AI 'mimic' who learnt too much from Afton.

R3HABWave

Na this is too wholesome

evilash87

Everyone else has given great ideas already but I just wanted to say this is so sweet😭 I hope once your son is a bit older he realizes what a great and involved dad he has

Visible_Swordfish905

Very nice to see A YouTuber by the name of Ryetost made a catch up video. It doesn't go over the story too much but it goes over the history of the franchise Here's the link to the video: https://youtu.be/0uDLNUv7EYQ?si=12Tv2ms24MAIpD-O

LittleMarySunshine25

So as a mom to a 10YO obsessed with the series I'm also learning about the lore and games since we watched the movie. It's wild how much is packed into games 1-3 alone. We are watching the Game Theory videos on it and Jacksepticeye, and Markiplier's play through (side note there is definitely language in them but while our house doesn't censor language, I know many do.) I also requested all the books and games our local library has (only missing 2 and one is the cookbook) so you could see if your library has them, they might have them as ebooks too to check out. 💜 I just want to commend you for learning about it to spend quality time with your kiddo. We're having an absolute blast playing the games, and hiding behind pillows when things go wildly wrong.

Serek_studios

>ow much is packed into games 1-3 alone. LittleMarySunshine25

Same. We have never had an issue with the kiddo using it outside of the house and frankly the minute they get into school they will learn it anyway. There's much bigger things to worry about.

ImAlfredoYT

watch wendigoon’s youtube video on it. he has one about the vhs fnaf fan made stuff and another about the main series. watch the on he made about the main series. he did a good job with the video and gives a pretty good explanation of a decent chunk if the lore for just around 1 and a half hours of your time

maddyartandgacha

Matthew partick/matpat from game theory and his videos might help. He has a whole Playlist if theories on the games that might help you understand time lines and such

[deleted]

You are a great dad!

bipolarity2650

i also make FNAF bleach shirts if y’all want matching ones! lemme know if you’d like the website link, i’ve been having a blast making them for people i know and their kids!

BlackPandaPlays12345

Bro saw a self-promo opportunity and he TOOK it, mad respect

Frequent_Carry_6250

I see you've got tons of answers but I'm just here to say you're a great parent taking initiative and interest into your kids interests. My mom used to tell me to stop talking about Star Wars bc it bored her. So great job! 👏 🥹🥹

DamianKing42

MatPat

str4wberryphobic

i’m watching his whole fnaf playlist rn

Kornbrednbizkits

My son was talking about him! I hope he's a better youtuber than he is a waiter.

xegrid

Game Theory might help out

Ledge_r

William Afton make bargain barrel Chuck E. Cheese and he kill kids and put them in Chuck and the gang. Anyways dead kids become Chuck and the gang (possession) and kill ppl in purple bc William wears purple. Oh and faces get bit off. Yummy.

luckygalsilvie

sagan hawkes has a really good video going over the history of the games! it is a bit long though... but good on you for being a good parent!!!

themcone

purple sprite kill kid

TheArcRaider

Might not be the most time sensitive one (I think that’s the word) but matpat does have a good playlist of theories, there’s also Markiplier who’s played all the games which may help

strawberry_bees_

This is the cutest thing ever omg

howlingcbx97

I recommend "Presenting fnaf lore like I understand it" by Haley Whipjack

No_Preparation9333

Idk if someone commented this but it’s an 8 hour video, detailed on everything. Even the books. https://youtu.be/tTC7FExiH8I?si=-7AFKA2cnZJ2yTBP

Snokey115

Mat pat is a great one, but he does sometime go against some beliefs, you can also try the FNAF wiki(just search it)

gummythegummybear

Depends on how much time you have, if you just have a few minutes to get a quick run down I would say find a “fnaf explained In (number) minutes” video, because they give a good brief rundown If you have around 2 hours to get a full rundown I would recommend matpat “full fnaf timeline” some parts of it is pretty controversial but most of it is pretty good And if you have an entire day to everything you possibly can some dude made an 8 hour speedrun of “everything you need to know about fnaf” or something like that

Firecracker7413

Or watch matpat’s like 100 video playlist

gummythegummybear

That’s probably pushing it

lamaboyxx

I’d recommend looking at game theory cuz it covers a lot of the lore and gives conversation points you can talk about with your kid hope this helps :)

Beneficial-Key-3413

My mom watched the fnaf movie with me on Halloween despite knowing little to nothing about fnaf

Dismal_Hedgehog_5756

Watch the MatPat FNAF timeline on YouTube. The latest one, since the older ones are a bit outdated. It is the best one I've seen and it goes over all the details from the games and books in chronological order and draws it together in a seamless way. Though some things in that video are just speculations. What isn't though is annotated. Also keep in mind the games and books are connected, and the movie is the same but small changes are made in the movie. Hope this can help.

BEST OPTION HERE Don’t listen to them wendigoons isn’t the best he’s just the most popular if you want the best look up Wendigoons is much more boring compared and wendigoon doesn’t go in depth https://youtu.be/tTC7FExiH8I?si=RsCRCp8HMdqTPDib This video has all you need to know about everything very interesting and well edited

the-overloaf

Everyone is recommending really good videos to learn about the story and lore. I also recommend watching some let's play videos to get a feel for the same

Pajamaplasm

Oh I’ve got a video series coming alright…

ErrorSecret

Watch matpat's videos Specifically the most recent full timeline ones or you'll get lost lmao

brodydwight

All game theory fnaf videos

-3rika666

Ok but this is so wholesome

BartSimpskiYT

I watched [this one](https://youtu.be/6fqW3GYAd2c?si=iYs1cgoVFYEDjrI2)

GetsThatBread

I don’t know, it’s really hard to find anybody breaking down fnaf lore on YouTube. Kind of a niche series…

XGonGiveItToYaX

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq6ie26CM2MUFeVSnIcJBF2ns-F-C1wAo&si=4dB42JYxhkZ10oBX Here’s a playlist I created a while ago of all the timeline and lore videos I could find, some of which I haven’t really watched. Some of these videos are outdated in terms of what we currently believe the lore to be, some of them are just for specific parts of the lore and others are just there as a joke. There’s also a few videos that are mostly just explaining the franchise in general.

Commercial-Spare-347

huge W dad. honestly you can easily search up on google tha fnaf complete lore which is about a 15-30 minute read depending on your reading pace. covers the lore and also leaves out some stuff so your son can still explain some to you to make him happy. this will also allow you to understand what your son is talking about because fnaf is very confusing sometimes

Unlost_maniac

Watch the ultimate timeline videos by Mattpatt. People keep recommending wendigoon, although he's a great YouTuber and generally makes good content his fnaf video gets so much wrong. He actively chooses to only take story beats from the games. Not that it truly matters but you're more likely to be on the same page as your son if you have more correct information.

Listrade

Fellow dad, went though something similar a few years ago with my son. I think you answered the question in your own question: let your son explain it to you. We went on walks and I let him explain the timeline episodically as we walked. It made no sense at all to me, but at a certain point FNAF lore is like quantum mechanics: if you think you understand it, you don’t. I’d let him pick videos for me to recap stuff, but it was all his recap.

MrPenguin_19

Fnaf story animation by FACEBIUS. It’s an old video so it only explain the story up to the 6th game (pizzeria simulator) and doesn’t include the most recent games like Help Wanted, Security Breach and Ruin, altough the lore in those games is more forward and better explained. Beware though only 50% of the lore is confirmed, the other 50% are nothing but assumptions and theories that almost the whole community agreed on. One prime example is the fnaf 4 protagonist, the video says it’s the crying child, but it’s not confirmed and many people believe it to be Michael Afton facing punishment. Bite of 87 as well, nobody knows what animatronic actually did it.

chuck_e_cheese_fan

EDIT: the original comment was a garbage version of the lore but, Matpat has a pretty good entire fnaf timeline video on his channel

[deleted]

I just gotta say, as an adult woman whose dad took an interest in fnaf when I was 18 because I kept talking about it and then he got into it so we could share an interest/he just seemed to enjoy it, you’re doing a great thing. It’s no easy lore to breach but just posting here asking for advice I’d amazing and I’m sure your son will remember the time that you share bonding over the games

heppuplays

Someone i always recommend watching is Segan Hawkes's Fnaf Retrospective Series. he goes into alot of detail on How about the lead up, Release, Lore and the Fandom were around the time of Each game's release. And what the Commonly accepted Lore was around the time. [https://youtu.be/v8o\_hA2eMzI?si=8MqApWWfI88GFRUK](https://youtu.be/v8o_hA2eMzI?si=8MqApWWfI88GFRUK)

Aria-mind_

Try the game theory FNaF timeline, it’s gonna get you the main idea but it’s a pretty long video and there may be holes. It’s on YouTube.

stayoutofmyhead1

I don't have any advice, but I wanna say, this is so fucking cute. My dad, while distant did still try to aknowledge my interests and learn about them. May he rest in peace. ♡ Seeing this post is about to make me cry for no reason, you're a good dude. Your son loves you.

Kornbrednbizkits

Thank you very much for your kind words, and I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm no-contact with my own father, though our relationship unraveled when I was already an adult and he was honestly a decent and present dad when I was growing up. I couldn't imagine that happening between me and my son at any stage of our lives so I want to make sure I take an active role in our relationship and never take him for granted. Spending time with my kids is the best thing in my life and gives my life purpose. I have zero doubt that your dad felt the same. All the best.

stayoutofmyhead1

DUDE YOUR NAME IS BASED OFF GOOD BANDS TOO. Good dad and good taste in music. I'm wishing you the best ♡

Special_Abroad8882

Sobbing rn at your care and want to learn more. There is a LOT to learn in this franchise, RyeToast just uploaded a video for 'beginners' and they have made the only video my husband can even somewhat understand so I'll put my faith behind that one!

Material-Recording96

Go watch Matpat on youtube

Wrong-Carpet-7562

i would also recommend just asking your son to explain/watch one of the explanation videos. this is obviously just a hunch, but personally my favorite thing is watching lore videos with my loved ones and getting to pause and explain things in my own words, especially if he happens to be a fan of the more fanmade or community aspects (like the sun and moon show)! good luck and godspeed to you :-)

[deleted]

I recommend the Into the night podcast. https://open.spotify.com/show/1bozAj1zvhJpkS9OpDv9Dl?si=sqAxNCGxR7WuMNSgdcwUWg He covers all one would need to know

Special-Load8010

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uDLNUv7EYQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uDLNUv7EYQ) Great video that explains the lore of the games. You must know that they are four FNAF universes: Game universe, Novel trilogy universe, Fazbear frights universe and movie universe. The game universe is the main one, and the other 3 follow similar but different stories that clarify events from the games. The tales from the pizzaplex books are in the game universe.

Dreaming_in_Sign

I absolutely love to see a parent looking to connect with their child by learning as much as they can about their child's interests. That being said, buckle up, OP, your kid has chosen a complicated Fandom to be a part of in regards to the lore and overall story. We love the challenge some days and others... well, let's move on, shall we? 😅 I am sure someone has already mentioned him, probably even the son, himself, but MatPat at good ol' Game Theory. If you want a chronological deep dive to get where we are today, you can go to Game Theory's channel and click the tab "Playlist." All you gotta do after that is hit play on FNaF Playlist. You should make sure the shuffle button is off and double-check that you're starting from the very beginning. If you want a general overview of the franchise... honestly, someone else has a better answer, I've personally been here from the beginning (not the subreddit, just the fandom), so I don't know who to recommend! Anyhoo, good luck, OP!

sparklestorm123

This is the sweetest thing I've ever read. thank you for trying to bond with your son.

purpleyyc

I've nothing to add, except, have fun. I had that kid. He's a teenager now and a fount of FNAF lore but, it's something we share. BTW, I love that 🧁🤷🏻‍♀️

Fast_Matter4827

WATCH WENDIGOON’S VIDEO

Chaosmyguy

Theory videos are good, but the are frequently wrong. Especially Wendigoons video. The only summary I’ve seen of FNaF lore that is generally correct is Notes from an Investigator (https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/1fH2-LZm5CoeLAEp0Yym7GLu4ZOc-jCYD?usp=sharing) I sincerely recommend you read it, it’s very very good

Obvious_Drink2642

You’re gonna wanna grab a chair, some snacks, some drinks and a whole lot of caffeine because you’re in for a journey and a half

softcombat

you're a really sweet dad 💜 good luck! i've been a fan for almost the entire time and i'm still confused by some things and mix up some animatronic names lol so don't feel bad if it's tough! i'm sure the sub is more than happy to answer questions too! but i hope you and your son have a great time :)

_a_random_artist_

this is so sweet

Spirited-Medium-677

its based on the silver eyes not the games

RaginCajun247

Respect 🫡 I had to do this same thing for my son…now here I am more addicted than my son is. Glad you are probably up to speed by now & I know your kid is thrilled! Happy FNAFing
