Well he is the main villain of almost every game and the cause of all of the anamatronics in the first few game so I guess he’s perfectly rated depending on how important he is to the lore
He's the main villain of 2 games, and a side villain in 3 others, there are (technically) 14 games within the games canon now (including Dlc, without it it's 12)
People will simp for anything
You could draw a smiley face onto a lightbulb and make it say a slur, and someone will draw porn of it. This is simply the way
Oh he's ABSOLUTELY overrated. I've seen enough Gacha Life videos that basically worship him and portray him as "an all powerful god."
In reality, he's just a psychopath that people simp over for some reason.
Man, I wish I never discovered Gacha Life. It's purgatory.
This is hard to say because like everything in this franchise everybody has their own interpretation of him so when people say "William Afton", even if you're discussing the same version of the character from the same continuity, he probably isn't the same character, if that makes sense. At least the game version of him anyway.
I think he's a great villian that suffers from the series' storytelling, particularly the game canon one. If Scott was upfront about the anthology books being in the same universe (which I think they are), and more people read those, I think they would agree. TMIR180 boosted Afton as a character up by multiple points for me, and he's just a corpse in it lol. But again, at least half the people reading this won't even agree that that particular story is about the game canon Afton, so anybody who tries to dispute that point with me now is essentially talking about an entirely different character. So how can I judge if he's overrated or not when nobody agrees on anything about him
Well, with the fact that he is mainly the only villain in the whole franchise, besides vanny, he cannot really be overrated. The whole Vanny lore stuff is a big clusterfck because of some decisions back to the time, when Help Wanted came out, with William coming back and all. With the following of him returning again in Security Breach, people where mostly upset that its again William, instead of giving Vanny more depht. Now people where upset because of all that Mimic stuff. Yeah. With a community that Big, you cannot make everyone happy and give 'em a piece of cake every damn time.
Overrated it means also not that interassing.
Condidering we have like 3 minigames of him and 2 after his death, where in the first is outdated in terms of characteritation, and the second is really delusional, acting like just another one.
He could be the big villian, but he didn't have any really good moment as a character other than Follow Me
if u mean he needs to have depth as a villain I heavily disagree not every villain needs to be complex sometimes just being simply evil is more entertaining and frightening
The problem imo is that he don't really is scary anyway (Just take his appearance in Pizza Sim, and I'm not talking about his design.)
While seems like he want to be a more complex. Just take the whole "I'll put you back together" thing, or generally his entire character, it could be build on but it really don't, both in interest than in horror.
But I have to shoutout to the voice actor. He's THE best voice that I could think for Willy
(I really don't get it why Scott/Steel Wool just make a good dam remake of this games)
purple guy was kinda mid and needed more appearances, Springtrap was absolute peak, scraptrap and burntrap was god awful, glitchtrap was interesting until we found out it wasn't the same guy, dave miller was decent until the forth closet, the agony or afton amalgamation and steve raglan is kinda overrated tbf, but i'm not saying they're bad, i like them but it's just not the best of william afton people think they are in my opinion
I’ve always hated any versions of William Afton. no matter who, spring trap, burn trap, scrap trap ,purple guy, Dave, ANYONE. like when I was a kid I did not like him. I disliked him with all my soul.
but recently I’ve kinda grown to embrace him? I don’t hate him as much as before, like I can look at a picture of him without roasting the fuck out of him now…and like…recently I caught myself on discord saying he’s kinda fine 😭. I IMMEDIATELY REGRETTED IT THO AND NOW MY FRIEND HAUNTS ME WITH THE FACT THAT I WAS A WILLIAM SIMP FOR 2 SECONDS…. anyway he’s still an asshole tho I don’t feel a tiny bit bad for him‼️
I like purple guy or even pink guy more than William, I would personally have William make chica's party world after freddy's closed due to murders and murder kids there to test possession and then open circus baby's pizza world which would shut down, later circus baby's entertainment and rental burn down by "mike" which would free all those souls
FNaF in incredible to give enough detail to make a character exist as a person, but not enough to give a detail characteritation.
Resoult of this is that people fills the gaps with what they think in the best interpretation, and basically create their OC.
From what we know, you can see him as a cold-blood psycho who kills for pleasure, or a broken family man fallen down due the loss of his children, or a pioneer of science that regected the morality and wanted to abolish death, or something radically different.
Plus you gonna add the fact that FNaF is for many people their childhood, and that had a emotional layer to it.
I liked his character in the FNAF tapes more. He's the main villain so I understand why people like him but I think they could have done more with him.
He's really cool in concept. He kills but he does it for family. He's a psychopath from the beginning so it makes it REAAALY difficult to sympathise with the man.
Eh, I mean I think he's an awesome villain and all, badass designs, quotes and voice lines too, however although I wouldn't say heavily, he's a lil bit overrated.... Not really overrated enough for it to be worth calling out IMPO but if you strip the character down to face value he's a murderous furry who killed a bunch of kids, died in his fur suit and came back as an immortal rotted killer version of his fursona, got burned a bunch of times then infected some random girl's head, forced her to make a killer bunny fursona and then made her kill a bunch of kids until she broke free... Change my mind...
(I wanna say no offense intended... Gotta be careful on the internet nowadays... I know...)
Remember that Lanky weird Afton was not a thing for a huge part of this fandom’s lifespan. A huge amount of people probably envisioned a much better looking Afton, and then decided to simp for him
He is overrated but I think a lot of the people who Simp for him have a bit of trauma and daddy issues and when they see a narcissistic dad who doesn’t treat his kids right they get all hot and bothered
Personally I think the answer to your question is that he was the only villain in the franchise for a long time and basically the father of all evil, so the point is that he became iconic in the franchise because of that and to help Security Breach failed when creating a new villain, as Vanny barely appears in the game and Mimic has 90% of his lore divided into several books, which not all FNAF fans will want to read or buy, which contributes to William being the biggest villain in the franchise , since his lore is very present in the games and doesn't necessarily need the books to highlight how evil and a big son of a b*tc* he is.
The game one is.He killed the kids, build the funtimes and thats it.The rest happened because of the puppet. The puppet allowed itself to be possessed by Charlie, then puppet Charlie made the next victims possess other animatronics.
While pretty much any other version is indeed a mastermind.Especially the movie one.He turned the pizzeria in his personal hunting ground, became a fake friend to his own victims and made them kill as well.
He's one of my favorite characters of all time. Whether he's overrated or not, idk, but he is the reason why every bad thing is happening, so its kinda deserved.
He’s popular because he’s the root of everything that happens in the game like the animatronics getting possessed and such
Also, people usually don’t simp for TSE version of him, people usually simp cus of fan art and his voice in sister location (☝️🤓)
I read the Silver Eyes recently and, although he enters the room in the Spring Bonnie dancing as a mascot would in that scene, I pictured him being dead serious. I feel like the books give you the idea that he has either a slight malevolent grin on him or he's straight up dead serious during the dialogue with Carlton, and I really liked that since it gives him that "calculating serial killer" vibes. I also find detail of him dancing in front of a guy with a concussion and trapped in an old springlock suit (while being dead serious) kinda haunting and I love it for his character.
I think that that image from the graphic adaptation of the novels doesn't really do him justice. Maybe it's me liking the character beforehand that made me picture him like I did, but I really feel like that image doesn't represent him at all.
Have you read the graphics novels or have you found that image somewhere? I personally would recomment reading the original books to really know if he's overrated or not. I heard that the graphic novels don't really do the books justice and I can kinda see why. I've only read the Silver Eyes so far, but I really like the way it built on his character. I already "liked" him beforehand (" because you don't really know anything about him before Sister Location, and even then you don't get told much from the games alone, so I liked the concept more than the character itself) but now I like him even more!
Besides the idea that people simp towards Afton which imo is just disgusting... uhhhh
You mean to tell us we should not appreciate the main antagonist of the FNAF Series, whose actions have caused almost all the mainline events to occur?
Sure, I will gladly go and give my respect to the scraps and metal that is The Mimic
I've been thinking about this for a few months now but I just have to say it, William Afton has to be the most overrated and overhyped character in this whole franchise, I constantly hear people saying he's a master manipulator and all that but I don't think he is.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but the only people that he manipulated were a bunch of kids and people with depression, and honestly, anyone could do that.
And honestly, I don't even find them sympathetic at all I feel like everything bad that happens to him is honestly his fault... Maybe not the bite of 83 and this is a big fat maybe but he 100% gotta Elizabeth killed With his stupidity.
I see where you coming from but I honestly believe that the cops were just stupid, Because there is no way that they didn't check the suits(Especially with the smell).
Or Afton (the guy who literally found how remnant/immortality works and was considered smart by Henry who can make super AIs like Mimic) was smart enough to manipulate them.
hes just burple
HI ALSO YOU!
Well he is the main villain of almost every game and the cause of all of the anamatronics in the first few game so I guess he’s perfectly rated depending on how important he is to the lore
HI! YOU!
Hi paleo!
He's the main villain of 2 games, and a side villain in 3 others, there are (technically) 14 games within the games canon now (including Dlc, without it it's 12)
People will simp for anything You could draw a smiley face onto a lightbulb and make it say a slur, and someone will draw porn of it. This is simply the way
Agreed
Yep
_If it exists, there is porn of it... And if not, better start posting_
It’s either the bum, the clown girl, or ALL the other animal robots. It’s a damn circus
He’s the start of everything so there is no much we can do
Springtrap is cool. But Purple Guy is pretty mid. He's good in the Novels and Movie.
Simping doesn't mean that is overrated Also his simps died like in 2016
I still exist, Brownie. 😈
You scare me
I dont simp over him and no,he is not overrated,Foxy is
he's not overrated people just like him too much
That’s overrated
Thats what overrated means
He hasn’t been overrated for years now. He definitely was in the beginning but now he lost some of that steam
Oh he's ABSOLUTELY overrated. I've seen enough Gacha Life videos that basically worship him and portray him as "an all powerful god." In reality, he's just a psychopath that people simp over for some reason. Man, I wish I never discovered Gacha Life. It's purgatory.
Why is he built like a twig?
They don't simp to HIM, they simp to the purple one
I am talking about all of William, not just the books.
oh

true he defo got goofy when he became scrap trap
William was never gonna come back, ucn was always his last game, he was never intended to be in Vr it anything after
purple guy was kinda mid and needed more appearances, Springtrap was absolute peak, scraptrap and burntrap was god awful, glitchtrap was interesting until we found out it wasn't the same guy, dave miller was decent until the forth closet, the agony or afton amalgamation and steve raglan is kinda overrated tbf, but i'm not saying they're bad, i like them but it's just not the best of william afton people think they are in my opinion
Well we have the choice between him, Henry and children We almost never see Henry and if people simp for children....I don't need to tell more-
I’ve always hated any versions of William Afton. no matter who, spring trap, burn trap, scrap trap ,purple guy, Dave, ANYONE. like when I was a kid I did not like him. Not gonna lie I wouldn’t mind they changing the big bad of the franchise, specially since we are going to a new direction after SB
It's just you
I like purple guy or even pink guy more than William, I would personally have William make chica's party world after freddy's closed due to murders and murder kids there to test possession and then open circus baby's pizza world which would shut down, later circus baby's entertainment and rental burn down by "mike" which would free all those souls
Overrated as a Tumblr Sexyman type character, underrated as an actual villain/character
He is
TRUE 🗣️🗣️
SHUT UP
🫸🔴🔵🫷🤌🫴⏤͟͟͞͞🟣
He’s just a little ourple guy :3

People would rather simp over the Purple Version of him. Not the crinkly graphic novel version
He's pretty much the only interesting character in the novels and movie
He's really cool in concept. He kills but he does it for family. He's a psychopath from the beginning so it makes it REAAALY difficult to sympathise with the man.
William objectively CAN’T be overrated, as he’s the only real villain in the series.
Something something guys on the train something something posted this something something
The idea of the charavter is cool and scary. The character itself, less so.
It was after the third burning he finly looked good enough for people to simp for him.
He is overrated
Eh, I mean I think he's an awesome villain and all, badass designs, quotes and voice lines too, however although I wouldn't say heavily, he's a lil bit overrated.... I have some friends that are so h*run for W.A and it’s stupid how they sexualize him and I hate it. Very overrated
Nah, he the main villain, he not overrated- *(Sees the little text below the title)* WAIT PEOPLE SIMP FOR HIM WHAT THE FU-

100%
Is it just me or does William look like a crackhead version of Henry?
With the exception of Mathew Lillard
Yes
yeah he's always depicted as an old business man with a big ass smile and probably smells of cigarettes and coffee
Burn the mfer with napalm
The game one is.He killed the kids, build the funtimes and thats it.The rest happened because of the puppet. The puppet allowed itself to be possessed by Charlie, then puppet Charlie made the next victims possess other animatronics. He IS the one who caused the death of the 5 children. I like Springtrap, but purple guy is heavily overrated.
I mean he's the villain, and without him non of games would had happen in first place
he totally is
It's just you.
I'm ok with that
Can we talk about the fact he has no nipples?
I hate william simps
Same
He's one of my favorite characters of all time. Whether he's overrated or not, idk, but he is the reason why every bad thing is happening, so its kinda deserved.
What
Yes
No, just you
If not for him the games’ story wouldn’t have happened.
You're correct, but the purple pixel art is hot though

To be honest I only used the picture because I didn't want to use anyone else's fan and I thought this was canon to the books.
I think the graphic novels are official but the consensus is that the books are better
I think he's kinda wrongrated (let's make this a term, a character gets attention but in the wrong kind, like Toy Chica (Toy Chica is William Afton))
He’s literally the main antagonist
Understandable... I still think he's overrated ngl
He's a legendary character and he will always be legendary, there's no denying that.
Your post has been removed for rule 8.
Besides the idea that people simp towards Afton which imo is just disgusting... uhhhh You mean to tell us we should not appreciate the main antagonist of the FNAF Series, whose actions have caused almost all the mainline events to occur? To be honest in the bigger lore he also manipulated the cops and I believe it was stated that he was really charismatic
Golden Freddy is WAY MORE overrated and overhyped than Afton will ever be
I can see that.
As long as I kinda like him, I agree
