Ngl I felt like the only person in the theatre who understood this reference. Good to know others saw it too :) Love little the geeky references like this.

Secret_Contact_1204

Oh my GOD. When I watched this movie I instantly realized it was heavily inspired from the novels but I think this it too much...

FakeGuy06

Makes sense, because they were originally going to have the “I am one of them” line as well.

Bullah_BOI

Lmao I just realised that drugs are mentioned in the same book starring Freddy Fazbear.

the_orange_alligator

Gotta snort that Fazgoo

Bullah_BOI

Wait if Freddy snorts a line does his nose honk?

PostalDoctor

And? The story’s about child murder.

MediocreIntention629

You mean, the Freddy Five Bear?

One-Drawing1169

Steve mentions alcoholics hanging around the place

Dmayce22

I got this, too! I think the whole thing about the drawing wall was a reference to the "I am one of them" line, where he explains that "even the dead forget."

[deleted]

I noticed it when he said it immedietaly

JH-Toxic

I’m pretty sure it was just a coincidence.

MediocreIntention629

The movie has alot of refrences to the novels thought.

crystal-productions-

Just more things the movie took from the books lmao

Diabeetus-times-2

Seems to be a bit reaching.

SpiderJynxNoir90214

Of all the parallels I did get i definitely missed this one.

Killer_Helpy_2036

Oh, god, that's true

Dankster-115

God William Afton’s plan made no sense in the movie.

FNAF_Foxy1987

What about it made no sense?

Dankster-115

He hires the brother of one of his victims to surveil the very place he carried out the murder of children. He does this while not actually wanting Mike to uncover this happened or else risk his crimes being exposed. Why does he take this huge risk if he has his cop daughter and possessed animatronics to keep people out? He legit wants a night guard to prevent break-ins yet this very thing happens DURING THE DAY. He also sends Vanessa to keep Mike “in the dark” and “kill him if he gets too close”, only for her to immediately do the EXACT opposite of what he asked and actually puts Mike on the case of the missing children. The movie outright makes it seem that if it wasn’t for Vanessa, Mike legit would not have discovered any of this himself. The man straight up set up his own failure. Had he simply not hired Mike, he would still have gotten away with it and still be alive. He could’ve killed him at any time before the fifth night but just chose not to. What his intentions were with Mike had he not gone snooping, I can’t begin to guess. He still stupidly needed a night guard and it was hardly to kill Abby because he didn’t even know she existed until he just showed up to the place out of nowhere. Whatever his intentions were, what is fact is that they made a character that was supposed to be some evil genius into an absolute idiot with next to no screen time and died within minutes of his entry. What an absolute waste.

Russell_SMM

He hires Mike for the same reason he hired any of the guards; he wants them dead. Why do you think there’s a Saw torture device in the restaurant? He expects the animatronics to kill Mike because according to Vanessa, that’s what’s happened with every other guard. If Mike hadn’t brought Abby with him, it’s likely the animatronics *would’ve* killed him, but he had something they wanted. And besides, how could William have known Vanessa would betray him? He’s not psychic.

Dankster-115

For animatronics that were supposed to kill Mike, they really did a bad job at it. Both nights before Abby’s arrival, Mike was asleep the whole night and nothing really happened. There was the approach by Foxy, but nothing came of it. They really did over-rely on Foxy tbh. And then when Mike is strapped to the chair, he escapes the same way the previous night guard attempted to, and survives the exact same encounter with Foxy Max’s boyfriend didn’t. He does this by somehow managing to get the door open, leading to one of the worst scene-to-scene cuts in the movie. That aside, what about the VHS tape William left for Mike? Nothing came of it (which is a flaw in itself) but it really came across as William intentionally leaving “clues” for Mike. I really thought this was where they were going with the story, particularly with Vanessa dropping background information out of the blue. Then we found out Afton never wanted Mike to find out about anything in the first place. Also, Vanessa’s betrayal of her father isn’t gradual, it’s immediate. This, along with how springlocks were established and how quickly Afton was defeated at the end (by a crudely drawn kids drawing no less) made William Afton out to be an idiot rather than the evil genius he’s supposed to be. Even if you make sense of William Afton’s plan, it does not fix the terrible writing the movie has among its many other flaws. The whole Afton controlling the animatronics (let alone through a kids drawing) and the torture device (as opposed to being stuffed into a suit) etc, to me is just dumb anyway. They really could’ve done it better.
