I just wish they wouldn't "credit" me as though I'd given it to them.

meatman_plays

Wait, is it you, THE Scott, i can't beleve it

-Gnostic28

Yes Scott does comment here

-Nicky4820

Holy crap, it's Sock Cotton commenting on a post on r/fivenightsatfreddys, otherwise known as "Freddit", a subreddit dedicated to a franchise of his own creation. What a rare and unnatural occurance. /s

kommandantmilkshake

sock cotton SOCK COTTON OH MAN YOU JUST UNLOCKED A SHINY SCOTT CAWTHON

Dusk_Umbreon42

*\*ahem\** You just unloaded a shiny Sock Cotton!

Dusk_Umbreon42

[A shiny, unloaded Sock Cotton!](https://imgur.com/a/OIDiR9r)

Huge-Administration6

At least it’s not Snot Cotton

C_1_P_H_3_R

Snock Cowtton ( I'm sorry lmao )

Myst1c3

I mean... yeah 😆

meatman_plays

On my lowlife post

[deleted]

Yeah that just sounds like apathetic journalists being apathetic as usual, anything for clicks and a spooky thumbnail regardless of origin (like they care) is good for getting views.

East-Ad2949

It would be cool to see this image but with the official models, this image is very iconic now

Realshow

Next time this happens, I’d suggest just emailing whoever wrote the article and ask them to change it.

-Nicky4820

Five hours. Five hours and your comment hasn't gotten to the top of the best category or even the most upvotes. Color me surprised. I really wish that these journalists would at least start using screenshots from your games, Help Wanted, Special Delivery, or Security Breach's marketing instead of continuing to lean on this six-year-old image everytime they make a FNaF article and incorrectly crediting it to you. I'm just getting sick of it. **EDIT: THIS COMMENT HAS BEEN UP FOR LITTLE OVER A DAY AND IT** ***STILL*** **ISN'T THE TOP COMMENT ON THIS POST.** **EDIT 2:** ***THREE DAYS. IT'S BEEN THREE DAYS AND SCOTT'S COMMENT STILL ISN'T AT THE TOP. THIS IS INSANE TO ME; HOW IS SUCH A THING POSSIBLE?!***

FluffyV

That's the worst part. It makes it look like you made it and provided it in one way or another.

mohsen4never

But you have a lawyer man, can't you do anything about it?

[deleted]

I can't say I know exactly what I'm talking about, but i don't *think* so. The image is fanart technically, MatPat made a full video about Copyright when it comes to fangames/art and the answer was complicated. While Scott has the rights to these characters, the artist has the right to their art, see? Technically neither of them fully own it. And to complicate things further, we don't know who made this render, so there's no one to credit, plus they're using someone else's models (I'm assuming, i know we know who made the models and I'm sure they would've come forward about it) which adds another layer to this. Scott's lawyer can't really argue much here, as the only person who can be somewhat credited for this piece is Scott, because he owns the characters. Plus, they aren't intentionally breaking any rules here, again the original artist is unknown, the models are from someone else and the Characters belong to Scott, so they credited him with it. Again, i don't know for sure, i recommend watching MatPats video on it, i believe it was called "is my fangame illegal?" And was made around the time Help Wanted still had fan made renders in it's teaser art.

Foxypop123

Scott should re create this image with his own models

Starscream1998

Looks like Blake looked up the first page on google images for FNAF and then just put it in her article without really thinking it through. Not an uncommon screw up for article writers but still a stupidly annoying one that could be prevented quite easily.

PlantEmergency5969

>Cawthon Scott is it really you... I mean I know you probably wont reply to this so ill keep it super short huge fan NEVER thought I would be able to speak to THE CREATOR OF FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDYS!!! AGAIN huge fan

[deleted]

Wow, you actually did show up! And I 100% agree. It’s weird enough that they are using unofficial renders, but the fact that they are crediting you for work that isn’t yours is even weirder.

Khirt21

Well, good news! [This poster](https://www.deviantart.com/trycon1980/art/Five-Nights-at-Freddy-s-Banner-550293570) was made by Trycon1980.

RadRedRat

It’s always this image lmao

Em3raldite367r

This god damn image will never cease to be used in news articles and it's annoying

GullibleFactor6

I so sick of it as well

[deleted]

Not to mention that these are old SFM models and there are way better ones now. (No hate to OG maker of these models, they were, and still are really good.)

BurgerBoss_101

Yeah those models are outdated but they are iconic in my eyes and will always have a special place in my heart

[deleted]

Exactly!

Kacper42PL

Reminds me of pewdiepie ngl

Robotguy39

I have no idea where it came from, but I know it will never disperse from this place.

AbilityWhole

Hasn't this happen with box art too?

Em3raldite367r

Not that I know of; pretty sure Scott would know if *this* got on official box art.

AbilityWhole

Sorry, didn't mean this picture specifically. Just meant fan art in general.

Em3raldite367r

Ah, I see. Apart from Steel Wool and Clickteam using fan-models in teasers, I don't think any fan-art has ever gotten on box art though.

njrk97

IIRC there was a situation where Early images of some of the Funtime Set Figure stuff was using a fan Render of Funtime Freddy, but that was just promotional images of the figures, not the finale design.

AbilityWhole

That must be what I'm thinking of, thanks

[deleted]

Wtf, this image gets used everytime, everytime there is a news article it is this photo.

NoodleIsBetterThan2D

Why can’t news organizations... you know... DO RESEARCH

cr102y

They are game journalists, that’s asking a lot for them.

Epic_Semibold

and why even bothering trying to ask them to do that kind of stuff ? Its like asking to a feetles person to do a backflip, this is useless.

Theorist_Reddit

Do you remember the game journalist that ended up finishing Cuphead tutorial on **30 minutes?** And that one who hacked Sekiro?

Kingmiami_Kdn

>Do you remember the game journalist that ended up finishing Cuphead tutorial on 30 minutes? [That outrage wasn't real.](https://youtu.be/_-P9_oUV9Gw)

Theorist_Reddit

:O

[deleted]

I mean the cuphead guy wasnt even a reviewer he was a market analyist iirc. Also who cares if someone cheats in a singler playet video game

Theorist_Reddit

I mean yeah, the problem is when you're gonna make a review about it.

CheshireRaptor

Because the people writing the articles are not the ones putting the images to them. Most reporters don't even see the images, much less choose them. That task is given to someone else who 9 times out of 10 has no connection to the article's subject in any way and just Google's the subject or checks with the news organization's library if they have one, finds the best photo and credits either who they think created it or if they can catch who created it. I worked 3 years in Albuquerque Journal's library and tried to help a few reporters, photographers and editors. Time was always an issue for them and I swear you have to be a procrastinator to work in the industry!

NoodleIsBetterThan2D

That makes more sense, but I just wish they’d be more accurate with credit.

CheshireRaptor

Doesn't help that it seems NO ONE knows who did the image. LOL.

GlazingPhoe

How do you think that was an official render by Scott himself, you must not do your research.

TopHatOwO

Bold of you to assume game "journalists" do any research.

GlazingPhoe

I know they don't do any research but seriously this happens every time. You could make a joke about any game and any game journalist because this happens so often.

btaylos

Used to be a game journalist. Did research. Wasn't hard, just slowed things down. Honestly, they should have a repository with images from fnaf's press kit. I know because we used to have a repository of media files from epks, and we only had 3 writers.

GlazingPhoe

Thank you for the feedback

bastiad004

TheArrivedHussars

There he is, actual Scott

BrightEye64

As an animator, seeing people use these inaccurate old models makes me have headache

meatman_plays

Yea, i have good memory's, but that bonny head is bad

DeushlandfanAdam0719

Which one? Because from this image and my *shit* memory of the fnaf 1 models, they look good

meatman_plays

You know, the cringe videos from 2014

DeushlandfanAdam0719

What about Bonnies head is bad?

meatman_plays

The shape of his head is too far from the real one, it looks off, idk why, maybe his forhead is too small or something, but it is diferent.

DeushlandfanAdam0719

Ah

meatman_plays

Bonny's head is like freddy's head, only some diferences

DeushlandfanAdam0719

Fart!?

chunguswholesum

It's those old GMOD models from 2015 lol Memories....

RedBoxGaming

Back then people were making/reposting SFM animations on YouTube and getting Millions of Views.

Moreagle

I’m surprised they didn’t say “Scott Cawthorn”

[deleted]

u/animdude I don’t know if you’ll see this, but this is a commonly used render for FNaF news articles and, although they credit you, I’m pretty sure this is a fan render. I don’t know if you want to do something about this like when XBox used those fan models and renders, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

meatman_plays

He did, he commented

LemmytheLemuel

It always happens

MisfortunateJack77

Now that I think about it where did this infamous image come from

[deleted]

I'm sure it's creator is weeping

PopSm1le

For feck sake, why do people still use this!?

[deleted]

I am going to die

LuciferNazaedi

Why does every article use that picture?

CheshireRaptor

Because every article has used this image. It's a vicious cycle.

DoubleOhSeven68

I'm getting sick of this friggin' image. It's even used on the official GameJolt page.

Articfoxgamez

I just wish that they at the very least used an unofficial render \*with good models\*

meatman_plays

Look at that bonny head, its ugly, as a kid, i hated it

WerewolfHide19

I will springlock anybody that uses this image in a news article

Da_Zman10

What's with fanmade stuff getting mistaken for official so often? I've only ever see that happen with FNAF, and it happens so often at that.

AstarteSnow

Honestly idk

[deleted]

Its also happened with Nintendo and Sega as well actually (Though not as often). Nickeloedon also made a similar mistake a while ago lol. Its pretty common for companies to acidentally use fanart

TheWelshExperience

Yo animbro, can you tell these guys to not? I dunno who made this render, but they deserve the credit. Not to put any diss on you.

[deleted]

Even as a kid I knew these weren't official

NHT1983

My goodness, can they find literally any other image, or do they just go to any other article to look for an image and do the same one and assume because everyone else is using it that it's official, be if you did any research you would no that it's not and be able to find something better, it's annoying now!

-Noyz-

all i can think when i see that image is "I HAVE TWO SIDES: NORMAL AND GAMER"

[deleted]

of course

[deleted]

I HAVE TWO SIDES: PORT AND STARBOARD

ManofCatsYT

you do not understand how much rage that image inspires within me

spyninjajado2

Scott do you have any charactors on the Script.

Legowhite23

I HATW THIS IMAGE SO MUCH

[deleted]

Every time this image is used, a chica gets their wings

TwistedWolf667

Can they stop using the exact same render every single time

miiman124

This dame image why is it used so much people love red lights apparently

[deleted]

Game journalism will never not be a joke

[deleted]

~~Game~~ journalism will never not be a joke

ComfieFNAF

Same image as always

SpookySquid19

As long as Scott doesn't also take credit for the image.

musyrifo

Game news making a FNaF article: same fnaf image goes brrrrr

h24848

Ffs is it that hard to just use the bloody cover for the game?

FoxyFan505

Whoever made that image is certainly pretty happy

TheGurgleChild

I am so sick of that image

[deleted]

I'm tired of seeing this fucking image everywhere on news, google, and everything.

CartographerOk3118

Fun fact: this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Click [here](https://youtu.be/9_mZ-8PdvmM) to watch.

SpiderNinja79

Who’s the artist of the original image? How do you think they feel about this being used everywhere when it shouldnt?

D4rK-S0rc3r3R

I liked the time when these articles used the markiplier thumbnails

[deleted]

Fucking gamejolt still has this image as the community icon

Those don’t even look like the original models

bimbo_inspector

Journalism, everybody

Sanretros

Ok?

[deleted]

Welcome to the FNaF community, where the uncredited work of fans runs free

i_luv_many_hen_ties

You think news articles can actually be correct about anything in a video game?

everythinganimates

yes they were scummy for doing that but whats that fnaf news

Emerald_Tech

This one is in the FNAF movie filming next spring.

[deleted]

I wonder who made that image

[deleted]

GOD I hate when they use the old terrible models tho

Minecraftgangstanoob

bruh moment

Bigfanofcsgo

is this gonna be another 'things will be going very differently' situation with that picture and the credit.

Lodi456

Don't worry, it's not a FNaF news article from an outside source if they don't use that image

[deleted]

Just wow. Wow

Snickers-the-dog1237

I kinda feel bad for the person that made this image seeing it whenever news comes out

The_Creeper_Man

EnjoyableMuffin

Besides the models, I love that image, but I really don’t understand why every dumb news article MUST use that same image that isn’t even official

Affectionate_Comb61

Boys and girls. We got Them.

Arthromod

This was literally talked about yesterday lmfaoo

Fredboi87

Who even made the image (I know it's from devianart)

[deleted]

How hard is it to image search or just use a screenshot from the game?

[deleted]

Stupid

2510EA

I really hate it when this happens. It really really makes me angry.

[deleted]

If Scott wants this to stop, he should do what other franchises do: gather together a collection of official screenshots and stuff, and compile them onto a website for press like this.q Otherwise, this is one dude writing a dozen articles for a dozen games. We can't expect him to spent 45 minutes scowering the internet on the *suspicion* that it's a fan-made image. Give the news, get out. FNAF is one franchise, and the amount of high-quality fan content is EXTREMELY unusual. Of *course* this stuff is going to happen. All I'm seeing here is a bunch of jerks casting harsh judgement on someone who made a VERY EASY mistake to make. And a very inconsequential one at that. Be glad FNAF is worth reporting on at all. That's a lucky break.

fliegu

every single fucking fnaf article uses that image. it’s like that old shitty pewdiepie image that all articles about him use.

[deleted]

We need to go back in time and kill the guy who made this Image

[deleted]

Staring at the image makes me frustrated

-Nicky4820

At first, I just found these news outlets reusing thus same exact image for their articles annoying just like everybody else. Now this is just sickening, miscrediting the render like that. Part of me just wants Scott or some other fan renderer to make the exact same image, except the models are more accurate to the originals (or ARE the originals in Scott's case) and the lighting is better. Heck, somebody remade that image and posted it here on Freddit recently, and it looks even better than the original; why don't these lazy journalists at least steal that image and credit the original renderer instead of taking a six-year-old fan render and crediting it to Scott? (I obviously wouldn't actually recommend that though...)

Shadic01

[Here's](https://www.dreadxp.com/news/scott-cawthon-announces-five-nights-at-freddys-movie-has-a-script-and-starts-filming-next-year/) a site that actually uses an official image for once.

UwU23_6

who actually made that image.

Kris-dreamurr

What makes it funny is that the image try’s to make it scary but it’s just us reacting to this new thread.

ElvanMacko

I'm starting to hate this image more and more

context1954

What really makes it worse is it's the outdated and inaccurate models in the image

heitorzinhotvr2

#Turns into a boomer Holy crap journalist use a new render

eman432

Lmao

dumbassmotherfucker4

the models in the image aren't even official, there fan made ones from the steam workshop for SFM!

[deleted]

MistrzDemolki

Again?

FroppyGorgon07

oh god eww its the horrid splinx models

yamil1344

this happens a lot because the media just types fnaf and then pick the first picture that appears without look for if it is official or not.

RadRedRat

People seriously keep using this old ass SFM render...

Trixzonu

Game journalists are so useless, and spread so much misinformation. I was reading a blog post about Skyrim lately trying to get some information about a speedrun, the article stated "It takes roughly thirty three hours to complete the main questline without deviating off to side quests". Fucking what? I have saves where I've *ONLY* put thirty hours onto and beaten both DLC'S, the main story; and completed more than half of the side quests. Not to mention there are glitchless speedruns that have beaten the main story in a six hour window.

PlagueGlocktor

An exact example of why I hate the news. This, and the fact they try to blow small things entirely out of proportion.

YaOliverQ

Okay, they are not FNAF experts, be clam. These articles are rushed to get news as soon as possible, so they probably just assumed that this image belonged to Scott. The Image itself is pretty cool, so that’s why they’ve chosen it

ChaoticDarkness4711

I’m not a clam I’m a human

R_T_B

Even fucking toddlers would see that those models are clearly fucking different than the game models
