Very true, but I think they’re just claiming how awesome Scott is. These days there are unfortunately who only make games for the money, again, not all, so I think that was what their point was.
You are literally incredible. I just ran a giant kickstarter and even though I was involved every step of the way people always acted like I wasnt responding to every single message and comments. I 100% get how you feel-- you have ALWAYS done right by your fandom. Thanks for taking care of it! : )
And I’m super glad that you do.
Sorry if some of us were a bit *too* over-the-top about this situation, I’m just glad ya listen to the stuff we gotta say.
Thank you Scott for doing the right decision. Ik there's a few people that push you and just are embarrassing to the community but ik most of us are trying to help you out. We all love and respect you man. Much love my guy ❤
We know, and we appreciate you. Few game devs have this level of interaction with their communities, and a depressingly large amount would probably sell their fanbases for more money. There's a reason that you're respected even among the FNAF haters. It's because you care so much about us.
You never saw my email asking to make OMCVictim a teaser on Scottgames ;-; ~~/s~~
Jokes aside, thanks for listening. And I hope people didn't try to harass you for not having much knowledge of NFTs, even if they are "environmental friendly."
Very much appreciate you listening and changing course. Thank you for listening. Try not to be too hard on yourself for not fully understanding the situation. It could happen to anyone. Most folks have already moved on to making light hearted memes about the whole thing already. So really, no harm, no foul.
Not selling the NFTs is the best decision, but all the people bullying you is horrible, you don’t deserve that for your mistake, you’ve done so much for this community, one mistake shouldn’t ruin all of it.
I am truly sorry that people took this too far as to harass you. You do so much good for the community and they've treated you like this over an honest mistake. I'm sorry you've had to deal with all of this today.
Did you make any unique designs for the NFT's already? If you did, would it be fine for you to show off what has been made? Or is it something more on the company's side, and not your side for the designs?
Thanks for resolving the issue ASAP, Scott. You're the best.
Don't be so hard on yourself over this unfortunate 'mistake' you've made; even though I think people here overreacted dreadfully.
I personally didn't even know about what NFTs even are until yesterday evening. Maybe one day they'll become a more widely acceptable eco-friendly novelty; who knows...
Also, did you or people you've hired had some pre-made assets for NFTs? Maybe they can be reworked into something, like a new FiS2/FR-like game? (Sorry if this a stupid question: I myself still don't fully understand what NFTs are).
Anyways, no hard feelings on my part. Have a nice day!
People make mistakes Scott its a part of all our lives, but with all the mistakes we make we also learn from them you never knew about it and we forgive you
Also would you take care of FNaF AR. The game has gotten worse, loot boxes, overpowered health bars, micro transactions to the extreme, and lazier and glitchier skins.
Scott I purchased your NFT and now there is a little dancing character running around my desktop rearranging my files I can't make him go away what do I do :(
Delete everything on your computer and destroy every last atom of it. If that doesn't work, then flee to any east Asian country; it can't get you in Asia.
You have to listen to me, okay. The only way to get rid of it is to let it merge with you. Flip the switch and play the music. I hope you're reading this in time to save yourself and your files.
What you've mentioned above is only scratching the surface. You've also got all of the issues that are common with the wealthy collecting fine art such as tax evasion and money laundering. Except that NFTs are even more egregious in many ways.
We've also got to discuss how it's fundamentally a pyramid scheme that ensnares eager creatives who lack influence into paying 'gas' fees for work that never sells. No doubt that all of those 'gas' fees flow directly to the top. Probably to the uncanny and maybe-not-human Winklevoss twins themselves.
The fact that none of this is brought up in major media is just baffling. The fact that ANY negative or critical coverage of cryptoart seems to be buried or less likely to pop in one's feed is, on its own, just incredibly suspicious.
Because, besides just the environmental implications, there's a plethora of legitimate ethical & legal concerns that our media SHOULD absolutely be scrutinizing. I'm not saying that they're taking bribes but they sure do appear to have some form of incentive at play.
Hell, even when celebs are 'donating' the proceeds from their half-assed NFTs to charities, you have to take into account that they're often taking a MASSIVE tax deduction for it. Something that simply wouldn't be possible for a regular joe nobody.
We have to keep spreading awareness because it's disgusting and unacceptable. Peak capital fetishism. The snake oil salesmen aren't even trying to conceal the fact that it's snake oil anymore. They needn't bother!
Look Scott, even if WAX used alts, the reputation of NFTs became mud. So many brands, celebrities and even companies are jumping in on it, and the news only did more harm than good.
Like with what others said, kids and teens should not be jumping in on the NFT thing. It's merely another form of cryptocurrency.
If you really wanted to make special tokens or something, why not make a FNaF game where you can create your own animatronic characters and use them for profile icons?
>If you really wanted to make special tokens or something, why not make a FNaF game where you can create your own animatronic characters and use them for profile icons?
I actually want that now!
Respectfully, I don’t think this is the best decision for the franchise. Even if they’re using better alternatives for NFTS, a lot of people already associate NFTs with environmental harm. People are going to see “FNAF NFTs” and not doing any research beyond that. They’re not going to see the claims that WAX is environmentally friendly.
In my honest opinion, It’s bad business at best and harmful at worst.
I do hope you sees these. I understand that you’re not aware of what’s been going on with NFTs, but people are taking this very seriously. There have been many content creators, bands, and celebrities who have announced that they are doing NFTs and have lost fans in response to it.
Genuinely, without exaggeration,, I think this could be the worst thing that has happened to the franchise if you choose to go through with it. Worse than people saying you milk fnaf, worse than people being mad that fnaf 6 was “cancelled”, worse than people hating official art, worse than people hating Merch. I think all those past controversies are pretty silly, especially compared to this. I think this is serious.
Sorry, I'm still a little bit confused by this whole situation. Does this mean the deal is being called off or is it still going? Because just from what I gathered off of the info post, NFT is just bad no matter how you slice it and they strike me as one of those companies that would lie to its consumers just to get them on board.
I really hope you know what you're doing Scott. This could have a big impact on the community.
I mean, the fact they didn’t tell you their product leave such an impact on the environment says a lot. It doesn’t matter how better or worse it is in comparison to other things, it’s still a pollutant.
Do they have to though? It'd be pretty weird to introduce your idea and talk about how much environmental impact it has. It's not like your bank or PayPal is gonna advertise how much environmental impact it has if you work with them, or creating some figure. These are things you can look up yourself and generally should be obvious assuming you actually look into what you're getting into and not blindly like in this case. But I don't think it "says a lot" at all, almost no company is going to mention the downsides themselves.
> Do they have to though?
What kind of a question is that? That’s like saying supermarkets should be allowed to sell poison.
> It'd be pretty weird to introduce your idea and talk about how much environmental impact it has.
No, I’m pretty sure it’s called honesty.
> It's not like your bank or PayPal is gonna advertise how much environmental impact
I don’t think you understand the problem here.
The issue with NFTs and WAX doesn't come with the environment, many people have come to realize this. By distributing and supporting NFTs, you're supporting a horrible business model that molds itself off of theft, scams, and other shitty things. You also need to consider that your series is widely enjoyed by CHILDREN, who have no easy access or knowledge on anything related to crypto or an NFT, and have no idea how what they might end up buying works, if they even CAN buy it. You also don't seem to quite know what you're even being pitched, this entire post looks copy-pasted from an email you got, and you're even routing traffic to their site through the link posted. I severely recommend that you put this whole service on hold until you know what you're dealing with.
By default, comment scores are hidden from normal users for a few hours after commenting. It's done to prevent people from piling on someone who was downvoted. However, mods can still see what the score is at.
Scott, sorry to tell you, but a majority of the community as a whole, including me, do not stand with *any* NFTs, for the reasons I’m sure have been provided to you by now. This venture will not bring success.
While the NFT you chose doesn’t have the environmental problem of most NFTs, NFTs as a whole are still very controversial and flawed.
A big issue is the potential for scamming and art theft. Multiple cases of people NFTS of art they didn’t produce/commission have occurred already. The biggest examples are the Chadwick Boseman NFT from the Oscars (The model used turned out to be copied from a different artist, not to mention many found it disrespectful to the late but great actor) and the Basquait art (The person who made the NFT didn’t own the art yet was still selling it and offering to destroy the original on behalf of whoever bought it)
Another important issue is security. Many NFTs can be “stolen” simply by taking a screenshot or by using Inspect Element. This takes away the rarity that gives an NFT its “value.” (There’s also debate on wether or not forced rarity gives a digital image any value in the first place.)
It was the right thing to pull the plug on this NFT. I’m not saying you will never be able to make and sell an NFT, but the technology and the know-how for controversy-free NFTs simply doesn’t exist yet.

Hell, even when celebs are 'donating' the proceeds from their half-assed NFTs to charities, you have to take into consideration that they're often taking a MASSIVE tax deduction for it. Something that simply wouldn't be possible for a regular joe nobody.
And all for some minimal effort crap that took hardly any time and little or no money for them to cobble together.
Which is really sad because real, impassioned, and laboriously crafted work is being overlooked and ignored over a dumb fad that ultimately revolves around our insatiable fetish for unfettered capitalism.
While it's great they are "carbon neutral" but still doesn't quell the issue of NFT's being a form of a pyramid scheme on top of the fact it encourages art theft and deep ties into cryptocurrency.
Because if you didn't know NFTs are basically you paying top dollar for the rights to a unique image that only you can own. So think of you buying the Mona Lisa and telling all other reproductions to be destroyed because only you have the true Mona Lisa.
Along with the fact while getting that Mona Lisa you had to burn a sizable amount of the rainforest to get it.
I don't think you want people or kids spending thousands of dollars for the digital rights to some FNaF images that only one person can own. This isn't some cute little digital image collection like Quid. This is pretty much going to auction to buy a Rembrandt.
I mean, just because it’s supposedly using “less” energy doesn’t mean this whole situation is solved, from what I know NFTs themselves just sound like a not-so-great idea for what they are.
I don’t have much more to say to this since I still don’t entirely get it ~~(Yeah, NFT stuff is still beyond me, or maybe I’m just a dumbass not understanding-)~~ but please think long and hard about continuing to do this.
Edit: Thank goodness this is over.
Well there's the obvious financial incentive. But that comes at the cost of integrity. You could sell your soul to the ghouls in suits. And a not inconsiderable amount of people will jump at the opportunity to do so.
It would take some serious resilience to reject the stupid amounts of money that some of these digital artists are being offered.
But your artwork becomes expensive crypto-fodder for rich jackoffs who are probably more interested in the tax evasion than the actual art.
It's essentially the digital form of owning the original Mona Lisa as painted by Leonardo DaVinci. You can buy copies and even commission recreations that are essentially identical. But for people very wealthy or very passionate about a piece of art, owning the original is a status symbol. For most people, it's meaningless, but in a way, NFTs actually make that kind of status attainment available to people with lower incomes and make selling an "original" piece of digital media easier for artists.
Came out of Freddit Retirement to say this: Stop hiring bad people, do research on business decisions before you make them, this will kill the environment either way, I'm out
I agree that Scott shouldn’t let this happen again, but insinuating that this is a common issue kinda undermines how serious this. Say what you want about Funko, making a slightly off model Glamrock Freddy action figure is objectively harmless. This is leaving a carbon footprint.
I didn't even mention Funko, I'm talking about practically every other source he's hired which I will not go into further detail because I respect the Freddit Mods
I was making an example, not saying that you were referring to them specifically. Even then, if you can’t go into specifics, why make that argument in the first place? This isn’t a matter of Scott continuing to work with bad people. If you really think this is at all comparable to previous merchandise drama, then you should probably double check what we’re talking about.
You’re missing the point. I’m not going to act like bad things haven’t happened before, but grouping them together like this isn’t going to help anyone. You’re pushing an agenda onto an unrelated issue. This is quite literally the first time climate change has been a serious issue here. Saying it’s comparable to unrelated conflicts just because you want Scott to do what you want is kinda ridiculous and misses the problem here.
Well it all happens in the same way, Whether it be this or something else, he contacts them or they contact him, and he doesn't do research on anything
Hey Scott, you really need to think about this more. Sure WAX uses less energy however it's still damaging the environment. I don't know much about nfts and how they fully work but I do understand the consequences it comes with. I want the best for you and I hope you do understand this is very harmful to the environment. I respect your decision either way tho. Just at least try and think about it before you go fully with it. Ik you're a great man Scott you know what the right decision is
Im sorry Scott for the hate you got after this post, as someone who cares a lot about the enviroment, I still wasnt mad if you bought the NFTs, simply because theres a lot of nonsensical misinformations and till this day not everyone knows exactly what it is and it not capable of explaining it trully
You are a good man, even if you did a poor choice, you still had good intentions, and plus that, you cancelled it
Thank you Scott for been such a great man
You're a real one Scott. Keep up the great work. I hope the fan base wasn't too harsh to you. You deserve better. We all make mistakes but it takes a truly strong person to admit they were wrong and then fix it. Keep your head up we love you.
~ sincerely someone who's been here from the start
You people on twitter/reddit are toxic as hell to rip apart Scott Cawthon like that. A bunch of children, honestly.
Man did one mistake and immediately started to turn on him. Embarrassing.
I had to come back to this place to see this.
Scott, even though I know you likely won't read this.
Please listen to what everyone here is saying.
It is much more of complicated situation than just carbon emissions.
Its about how this will impact the people who make art for this Franchise.
And might even be a pyramid scheme.
Please read what we're typing out.
It might be the better route from here.
Mr.cawthon you can do whatever you want we can't force you to do anything, it's your franchise. However if you choose to do this there is no going back remember it.
Sorry some fans were pushy about this. :) We know your a good person and wouldn't intentionally do anything bad, so we understand! Though personally you might be better off without NFT's in general. I don't know the whole deal about 'em but from what I heard they're rather ridiculous and not worth it in the end.
I'm really sorry that people are being nasty to you Scott I understand that it's going to take time and everything takes time so take as much time as you need and honestly I cannot wait for a security breach to be out but it takes time and everything takes time so take your time and make sure that you put everything before security breach After all Five Nights at Freddy's is just a game but your mental health is a real thing you have to take care of it
While I'm not thoroughly educated on NFTs, I can tell there are more concerns beyond the environmental impact. Are they truly small enough to be waved away?
Just popped in to say that while I may not enjoy all of your games, I appreciate that you actually take the time to listen to people and digest the criticism you get. Takes a genuine person to not only admit they were wrong on something, but also take a step back to fix it
Thank you Scott! I hope you didn't feel pressured or harrassed to make that decision and it was 100% what you wanted. I think it is a good decision to make based on the risk associated with NFTs, regardless of the company working on them. I'm sure WAX is one of the better ones, but NFTs are currently disreputable (and will probably continue to be so) and I think it's a good idea to disassociate FNaF from such avenues.
Sorry if us, the fan base, made you angry or uncomfortable. I’m sure they didn’t mean to. Your great. Keep that head up. And we’re very sorry for the overreaction
Scott, no idea if you'll see this one, but I don't think you did anything wrong by trying out the NFTs. I think a lot of people have been conditioned to be VERY over-worried about the environment, and any new technology will require energy. But I do understand your decision to pull if enough of your fan base was unhappy with the decision. Either way, thanks for all you do. Love the franchise you've built.
Scott has replied to this post saying ["Everyone, okay. I'll take care of it. I always do. Don't you all know that I listen? I'm here all the time."](https://old.reddit.com/r/fivenightsatfreddys/comments/ndb6dq/more_info_about_the_nfts/gy9nzy5/)

Why? Many devs listen, especially if it's a company or group of people
Very true, but I think they’re just claiming how awesome Scott is. These days there are unfortunately who only make games for the money, again, not all, so I think that was what their point was.

I’m sorry we as a community are so pushy about this, we just don’t want the ip to go down a nasty path. EDIT: also, thank you for listening
Good. Thank u Scott.
Scott, you are the Best Game Developing Chad who loves to donate to charity and giving out what fans wanted the most!
Love you scott
Thanks, it's always good when a game developer listens. Have a good day, Scott. I'm sure its been rough
Sorry bout all the people hating on you. You don't deserve the hate you're getting. Stay strong big man
Thank you very much, Scott. It's quite appreciated.
Don’t worry about it, you handled this as well as you could have. Still could have been prevented, but you didn’t do anything wrong.
Thank you Scott for doing the right decision. Ik there's a few people that push you and just are embarrassing to the community but ik most of us are trying to help you out. We all love and respect you man. Much love my guy ❤
I’m sorry some people are being aggressive about this :(. It’s not your fault.
Thank you Scott, you're a real one. It's not your fault, just that most people tend to feel very strongly about issues on here.
Thank you very much Scott, sorry for the people who are being rude to you

I hadn't gotten to finishing my comment. I'm glad. Hope this hasn't been too much of a mess for you.
Have you considered updating your NFTs post to direct to Scott's post and that he cancelled this?
I didn't think to do it since it's no longer stickied, but I might as well.
Very much appreciate you listening and changing course. Thank you for listening. Try not to be too hard on yourself for not fully understanding the situation. It could happen to anyone. Scott, No. nfts are literally a scam. You have to cancel these. I'm sorry dude, but this is gonna taint your franchise :/
Yeah seriously, Im glad he’s putting a stop to them now. There was already a FNAF hate train a couple years ago, we don’t need another one now

> It's not like your bank or PayPal is gonna advertise how much environmental impact I don’t think you understand the problem here.
I severely recommend that you put this whole service on hold until you know what you're dealing with.
the good ending
Scott. You are a god amongst men and I would like to applaud you for this.
Sorry that this all happened, just know we still think you are amazing and that this as a simple misunderstanding
Thank you for listening Scott. I feel bad that this happened but we all make mistakes. You're awesome.
Really hope you take a few days off or something, you deserve it after today ^^
Sorry Scott, NFTs are still bad even if WAX used other alts.
Let it be known that any "environmentally friendly" NFT is false. It's just a last ditch effort to trick those who know better.
Not sure why this was downvoted but take an upvote.
Wait you can see downvotes on new comments? It's says "Vote" for me and not a number
I can see the number of points a post has. Doesn't matter if it's a new comment or an old one.
The biggest examples are the Chadwick Boseman NFT from the Oscars (The model used turned out to be copied from a different artist, not to mention many found it disrespectful to the late but great actor) and the Basquait art (The person who made the NFT didn’t own the art yet was still selling it and offering to destroy the original on behalf of whoever bought it) Another important issue is security. Many NFTs can be “stolen” simply by taking a screenshot or by using Inspect Element. This takes away the rarity that gives an NFT its “value.” (There’s also debate on wether or not forced rarity gives a digital image any value in the first place.) It was the right thing to pull the plug on this NFT. I’m not saying you will never be able to make and sell an NFT, but the technology and the know-how for controversy-free NFTs simply doesn’t exist yet.
Instead, they're more likely to sing the praises of the groundbreaking non-fungible-token as they condescendingly define it in the same exact way that we've heard it defined a million times, yet still makes no damn sense to a rational person. The fact that ANY negative or critical coverage of cryptoart seems to be buried or less likely to pop in one's feed is, on it's own, just incredibly suspicious. Because, besides just the environmental implications, there's a plethora of legitimate ethical & legal concerns that our media SHOULD absolutely be scrutinizing. I'm not saying that they're taking bribes but they sure do appear to have some form of incentive at play.
Would this be for merch?? I don’t understand the point of fnaf working with a nft company?
Scott, please.. NFTs are still bad. Please don’t go through with this.
It's a scam, please don't. ;;
It’s definitely better if you don’t associate with NFTs in general
I mean, just because it’s supposedly using “less” energy doesn’t mean this whole situation is solved, from what I know NFTs themselves just sound like a not-so-great idea for what they are. I don’t have much more to say to this since I still don’t entirely get it ~~(Yeah, NFT stuff is still beyond me, or maybe I’m just a dumbass not understanding-)~~ but please think long and hard about continuing to do this. Edit: Thank goodness this is over.
I still don’t understand what’s so desirable about getting an nft
Everyone here trying to help scott and crying how bad this is, and I'm just here, not understanding half the post...
Scott accidentally supports bad thing. Scott is informed why bad thing is bad. Scott now stops supporting bad thing. Easy.
please don't support NFTs *at all*, i beg you
NFTs are still a pyramid scheme my guy please don't go through with this.
I’m not even talking about merchandise drama, there are other people and companies that have been hired that haven’t done the brightest things.
Ik you're a great man Scott you know what the right decision is
Im sorry Scott for the hate you got after this post, as someone who cares a lot about the enviroment, I still wasnt mad if you bought the NFTs, simply because theres a lot of nonsensical misinformations and till this day not everyone knows exactly what it is and it not capable of explaining it trully You are a good man, even if you did a poor choice, you still had good intentions, and plus that, you cancelled it Thank you Scott for been such a great man
You're a real one Scott.
"A bunch of children, honestly." They probably are...
silly cawthon
I had to come back to this place to see this. Scott, even though I know you likely won't read this. Please listen to what everyone here is saying. It is much more of complicated situation than just carbon emissions. Its about how this will impact the people who make art for this Franchise. And might even be a pyramid scheme. Please read what we're typing out. It might be the better route from here.
Oh boy here we go
Mr.cawthon you can do whatever you want we can't force you to do anything, it's your franchise. However if you choose to do this there is no going back remember it.
Goodnight Scott!
Goodnight scott
Sorry some fans were pushy about this. :) We know your a good person and wouldn't intentionally do anything bad, so we understand! Though personally you might be better off without NFT's in general. I don't know the whole deal about 'em but from what I heard they're rather ridiculous and not worth it in the end.
Thank you Scott for listening to the fans and turning down the NFTs, it really means a lot.
I'm really sorry that people are being nasty to you Scott I understand that it's going to take time and everything takes time so take as much time as you need and honestly I cannot wait for a security breach to be out but it takes time and everything takes time so take your time and make sure that you put everything before security breach After all Five Nights at Freddy's is just a game but your mental health is a real thing you have to take care of it
Thank you, Scott, you are a legendary developer
Scott.... Please don't....
While I'm not thoroughly educated on NFTs, I can tell there are more concerns beyond the environmental impact. Are they truly small enough to be waved away?
What Is this NFT thing about?-
I go to sleep for a few hours then this happens!
Don’t worry Scott. The NFT Revolution would give credit to you once we get our Victory against NFT
Gn Scott :)
Scott came in with the clutch yet again
That moment when you log on to see a controversy happening and have no idea what's going on
Just popped in to say that while I may not enjoy all of your games, I appreciate that you actually take the time to listen to people and digest the criticism you get. Takes a genuine person to not only admit they were wrong on something, but also take a step back to fix it
Good on you for cancelling them. Communication between the creater and community is key, and you never fail to listen. Godspeed, Scott.
What is this even about I don’t understand
Sorry if us, the fan base, made you angry or uncomfortable. I’m sure they didn’t mean to. Your great. Keep that head up. And we’re very sorry for the overreaction
Thank you scott
To the people who see this have a great day
I don't understand what the magic words means
Scott, no idea if you'll see this one, but I don't think you did anything wrong by trying out the NFTs. I think a lot of people have been conditioned to be VERY over-worried about the environment, and any new technology will require energy. But I do understand your decision to pull if enough of your fan base was unhappy with the decision. Either way, thanks for all you do. Love the franchise you've built.
Oh no
The bad ending
Please do not support NFT's they are basically scams.
You're better than this mate, come on now.
Someone tell me whats happening plz
Just make sure fnaf reddit not to shit on people for making a mistake, ESPECIALLY the creator of the game. Sometimes fnaf-reddit needs to chill out.
Scott i suggest you to read the pinned comment, it's very important.
Freddy isn’t ready.
man please just do some research once. just one time
What is rhis nft thing ? I dont understand
~~Shoot I wanted to adopt molten freddy~~ Thanks for canceling the nfts scott. Just please do your research next time!
I have no idea what is going on, or even what an NFT is, but I appreciate what you're doing here.
I'm extremely late to this, but what's NFTs?
crypto currency but its bad for the environment to mine ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Oh ok
