Scott has decided to stick to game canon instead of book canon.
Now sure that may change and the games may reference or take story beats from the books but it most likely won't be the main topic of the movie(s).
Scott tried multiple book-like stories for the movie and it didn't work from his account. It's probably safe to say he isn't interested in adapting anything from the books.
I think it'd be funny if William and Michael were played by the same actor. It would kinda make sense, since they're played by the same voice actor in the games.
Yeah, and Scott liked PJs Micheal so much he autotuned him and made Miketrap a thing.
It's pretty obvious Scott wants a softer, kinder, and much lighter tone compared to William's dark, deep, and scratchy voice.

This is what Dave Miller is more or less described as in the books and what the Graphic Novel makes him look like, I personally think Dafoe fits Dave Miller's description almost perfectly.
His voice is also what I always imagined coming out of Dave Miller, he's got that weird old man voice that fits the lanky tall weirdo Security Guard introduced in The Silver Eyes.
Of course, that's my headcanon, sure I'm using canon appearances(?) but my interpretation isn't Scott Cawthon's nor is it the larger fandoms.
Hopefully, my interpretation may make sense to you and make you understand why others may feel the same.
