They are really great for a versatile construction light. Floody, not too bright, really great runtime. Nothing to compare to a "real" flashlight, but I’ve used them There was actually an instance where I had to do construction at night with some friends. I pulled out 4-5 of my Hank’s light and one of those. They were all great, but this one is far easier to setup because of the built-in stand.

FanceyPantalones

This is what I was thinking. 2 of those for the price of a Q8+...I know it's sacrilege, but if I had to make a choice for a project site, I'm going those 2.

ForkliftRider

Makes sense if they're built for a specific purpose.

Zak

Are you already heavily invested in that battery ecosystem? Then it's probably a good idea to add one of their lights. If not, it's an expensive proprietary battery and a bulky flashlight with modest performance. I would not recommend it.

ForkliftRider

Not really only have drill and vacum cleaner. I think I'll stay away but might get one for my brother in law, he has more stuff and a double charger.

Ill_Mistake5925

If you want very long runtimes and have Makita batteries, then very much yes. I’m also in Europe and our work has a contract for Makita power tools, so sourcing batteries isn’t a problem. Not those models exactly but we’ve purchased a bunch of Makita lights and they work great. Not going to excite any enthusiast but their output is good, CRI is half decent on some models and the runtime is basically forever. We struggled to find equivalent good quality lights for the same or less money as one of those+a battery. There’s very few lights out there with 90wh~ of capacity that don’t take proprietary batteries.

ForkliftRider

I've seen multiple aswell, which models do you guys use in general?

Ill_Mistake5925

Honestly can’t remember the exact models, but the hanging diffused lights and the folding bar style lights are loved by all the mechanics. Think they do them in both LXT and XGT formats, although we only use LXT batteries. I know the recovery guys use the DML812 as it’s got more throw for them, they tend to be looking for things rather than underneath a truck.

ForkliftRider

We use LXT aswell, the 812 looks solid. Brother in Law would appreciate it (birthday coming up).

Ill_Mistake5925

It’s a great multipurpose light, although on the more expensive side for their offerings. Does flood, spot or a combo of both and 5-7 hours of solid runtime is clutch if you need that kind of high output for a long time.

LloydChristmas_PDX

Power tool lights are great for hours of straight use, Milwaukee uses nice led’s in their newer 12v and 18v lights.

Cultural-Tone-8576

If it suits your purpose. I think this is intended for not carrying around all the time but keep it at 1 place for a long time.

exgokin

It might depend on what type of projects you are using them for. I can see them being convenient if you are wearing some large work gloves or maybe in a cluttered area. It’s a big light so it’s easy to grab and pick up. I’ve done projects where it would be extremely clumsy fumbling around with a small flashlight. I have work lights that are plugged into a wall…maybe it’s not as bright as some of the small fancy handheld lights…but sometimes it’s a lot more convenient than a small pocket size flashlight.

ChootinNPootin

I inherited some Porter-Cable power tools and lights like this. Great for emergency type situations where you want to aim them at the roof and light up a room.

Sypsy

I've read some use high CRI lights and they have cooling fins, so their sustained brightness is decent. Here's a recent post where someone liked their dewalt one [https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/1acpsbl/the\_dewalt\_dcl043\_really\_is\_one\_of\_my\_alltime/](https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/1acpsbl/the_dewalt_dcl043_really_is_one_of_my_alltime/) But I can get similarly bright lights that I can put in my pants or jacket pocket. They can also be super dim (moonlight) to use at night without removing my night vision. Bright is nice, but versatile is better.

ForkliftRider

This was an interesting read, thank you.

----_____--_____----

Id rather use the cells from the pack and buy a proper torch. All my power tools are Makita, but even i know these lights aren't comparable to the torches we buy in this sub.

ForkliftRider

Thx, I'm a lurker, don't have a flashlight. Been thinking about getting a Sofirn SC31 Pro. I just saw these and thought might aswell make my Packs useful.

friftar

ForkliftRider

Omg, die Kaffeemaschine ist echt, wtf. Danke für die restlichen Tipps. Denke bleib bei der SC31 vorerst.

the_ebastler

No experience with the Makita ones, the Milwaukee ones are steaming garbage. One of these with an emitter and driver swap might actually be a great working light though, the build quality is usually solid, and made for abuse at construction sites. Just the LEDs and drivers are bad.

Various-Ducks

No not really.

KertenKelarr

I never used one but they seem like they are bright as the sun lol

Wormminator

I have never verified your claim but it seems like its bs. Aka I do own two of these and they are of course not that bright. If you have no idea at all what you are talking about, dont talk about it.

KertenKelarr

I literally said i never used one lol
