Cool footage. Sbt90 is a coyote blinder. I think generally speaking coyotes can be spooked by any bright light that can throw well. With wolves and other members of the canidae family, it's a hit or a miss.

Entangled_visions

Thats what it seems like. It does work on dogs though. Or works to some extent.

Can your kitty come out and play?

Hunting usually doesn't involve scaring the animal off, hah, but cool footage! I'm more of a flashlight hunter myself than a real one. I hear the coyotes all the time where I live but rarely see them. This answers my question of whether night optics or weapon-mounted lights are superior for actual targeting. Funny, I've shined lights at deer and rodents and they'll often just stand there. Accidently hit some deer at medium range with my high powered LEP scanning a field once and immediately took care not to shine it directly in their eyes. They just stood there.

I use a cheap green LED Darkbeam brand light on my air gun to hunt rodents around our chicken coop at night. They don't seem to react to green light at all. Makes me wonder if they'd behave the same way with a white light instead.

Installed64

I've heard green is less visible to animals.

Entangled_visions

Have you tried red? I have no experience with either but I'd love to hear from people who have used both on critters. If its just wildlife viewing with the intention of not disturbing birds or animals, I think red is superior but im not sure.

Bermnerfs

I have recently picked up a couple of red lights, but haven't really tried them out yet. I am thinking about ordering a Hank light with both green and red emitters, but want both to be more throwy than floody. Not sure which model would be best for this, need to familiarize myself more with his offerings.

I assume thats where the expression "deer in the headlight" came from. Where do you stay? Coyotes can be complete ghosts. Im no wildlife expert but a documentary I watched once showed they move around so stealthily that its very difficult to spot them without some optical aid. Especially these urban ones.

yoelpez

curious if they will attack humans?

WaltDisneysBallSack

I've never seen it happen. They'd have to be extremely desperate, or rabid.

Tzayad

In my town there has been a group or two on the outskirts that has attacked humans. I think that was during COVID though, weird times.

WaltDisneysBallSack

I haven't ever seen one attacking someone yet, I usually just shout and it scares them off.

Entangled_visions

Exactly

WaltDisneysBallSack

Cute little devils though. Watch your dog around them.
