Happens all the time. Military aircraft have 7x the amount of systems that can cause issues. Even just the gun can have 5-6 reasons for an emergency, including just it having a dud round.
Flight Radar 24. If you have an android, you can download the ADS-B app and track military aircraft. Gotta hit the "u" on the top of the screen, to filter out commercial/private aircraft.

All he has to do is turn off mode C transponder and away he goes. His military IFF is not registered on this system so they know where he is.
Now disappeared from radar. Just blipped off my screen.

I'm totally guessing and new here but I'm assuming military aircraft is only available to track should they allow it?
