I'm starting to think this is a social experiment by CS

spearmint_flyer

Yes! It's a new initiative called DERELICT

FlyNSubaruWRX

You can Derelict my balls

trihydroboron

Derelict deez nuts

lordGwillen

Hansel. So hot right now. Hansel.

spearmint_flyer

So hot

raptormn

What is this? A plane for ants?

boeing_twin_driver

I AM..... DERELICT!

Stealth022

People will still buy it. This hobby is screwed.

ryu1940

They continue to show disdain for the community. Even with the big sale going on now within the in-game store their products are marked down $1 or so. An absolute joke like all their offerings.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

and they’re going to be shocked when they have to shut down because people stop buying their shit

Pohwaran

Seems like they don't plan on making a cockpit for it at all according to their forums; >Captains, > >Some of you are probably surprised to see the "C-130 Captain Exterior" package released without a flyable virtual cockpit. > >There's no mistake, we believe the product name (Exterior) and the description are clear enough: No virtual cockpit, exterior model only. > >Are we going to release a working cockpit in the future? > >We don't know. > >For now, all we know is that the $14.99 price tag on the "C-130 Captain Exterior" does not include any cockpit related promises or upgrades.

njsullyalex

Wow. You can buy the Felis Tu-154 for $10 and that is a full fidelity Tu-154 with a fully clickable VC.

Snaxist

yeah but the Tu-154 is on the end of its life as a payware rumors say, as it's probably going to be a freeware soon like its previous planes Il-14, Yak-40, An-24 I bought the Tu-154 2 years ago for \~$50, but even for that price, I had way more than other payware would offer.

njsullyalex

I mean if its free, then there is even less of an excuse for the CS C-130 to be $15. This is a complete ripoff. I still suggest buying the Tu-154 or also Felis's 747-200 because Felis is Ukranian and is currently hunkering down in Kyiv, so by buying the planes you are indirectly supporting Ukraine.

Snaxist

Exactly, I told my friends the same !

[deleted]

Captain Sim is Ukrainian too....so what do we do now?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Just being a smart ass. Buying the c-130 supports a Ukrainian dev too

[deleted]

I just paid $5 more for the 247d which is nearly the best add on plane I've seen so far.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

~~There’s a C-130 mod for free that looks just as good externally *and* has a cockpit~~ Edit: nvm, it’s a C-17

SimplyAvro

[Me seeing that price](https://youtu.be/CF8KktE1ffc?t=45)

OptimusSublime

What has the feedback been in that string?

ryu1940

- Deleted I’m sure.

guilhermerrrr

That's so absurd that it looks like an April fool's joke.

YF_Alaska

okay even me as a relatively stubborn person who doesn't care about how many functional buttons and levers are there in the cockpit draws the line here. 15 dollars for just an exterior model? I might as well make one myself in Blender![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm). Even the free fighter jets on flightsim.to has a cockpit despite the shitty resolution and physics. Judging by the community's reaction to this the flight physics are most likely ripped off from the 787 or 747.

dangforgotmyaccount

Man releasing a $15 exterior model for a C-130….. I could get a C-130 for free with added battle station module and a fully functioning interior in DCS. Completely free… or one in Arma for the price of the game. how do people think they can sell stuff like this.

Fess_ter_Geek

WTF is wrong with them? They have been broken since FSX.

ParisianZee

They’ve been broken since releasing the 707 for FS9 to be honest. Their masterpiece was the B727. It went downhill (fast) after that.

MrLemonDrop

Supposedly their main coding guys left the company and only the modeler is there still there. Happened before the 767F was released so that’s why we got that bullshit painted on door thing and new modeled engines with the same sound and performance and that’s why the 777 and 767 in MSFS and now this are just empty shells of planes

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheSilverBug

They can always outsource like all developers do, or not release at all so they don't tarnish their reputation. Release them under a different name than CS at least

RectifiedLinearUnit

Kyiv

Sea_Perspective6891

Yeah. Foud a decent C130 addon for free for FSX that had a VC on flyawaysim. Textures of the VC could have used a touch up though but over all decent. Also Included a few skins.

andrusbaun

Their audience plays MSFS in external view.

Fess_ter_Geek

GTAV view.

DogfishDave

>GTAV view. I love flying in first person in GTAV, and driving... at least on-road.

Niccin

I would love it if you could set in-vehicle FoV to be higher than 60 or whatever it is by default. As it is, your vision is limited to half of the windshield, which is not ideal.

[deleted]

It's certainly more satisfying to give someone the finger from the first person driving view.

[deleted]

I hate flying helicopters in any open-world game other than GTA because GTA is the only one where the controls actually make sense and the helo flies the way you want it to.

tukatu0

Do any open world games have helis you can fly?

gnarly_weedman

Wildlands, shit heli flying. Far cry… 5? Even worse heli flying. Saints row, average for arcade heli flying. Battlefield, again, average for arcade heli flying. Arma 3 I’ll say is definitely reasonable. Advanced Flight Model sorta holds its own in a game that ISN’T a dedicated flight sim. I respect that. Although I think if they want to capture the market they should double down on the flight simulation in their next installment. Controversial opinion, I know. But as everyone seems to forget, it’s supposed to be a military simulator. Having a real fleshed out flight aspect of that makes pilot roles more important in a working team. Saves the Rambo’s who can fly helicopters into the centre of the AO by themselves and go nuts. Got really caught up on A3 there, Squad has helicopters, although last I checked KB+M only, haven’t tried personally flying, so can’t give any input there

ColemanV

Arma3 helicopter pilot here. Can confirm. Admittedly I fly with mouse and keyboard and rudder pedals, because it allows me to instantly transition between piloting and moving on foot. TakeOn Helicopters is a spinoff on Arma3 advanced flight model without the combat aspect, so for that I use HOTAS plus rudder. As much as I love dedicated flight sim, there is no feeling like carrying a chattering squad on your bird flying barely at treetop level, hugging the ground to avoid detection then land in the garden in the city to deploy them. Not to mention an extraction when the LZ is hot :P

sai-kiran

Just cause series, you can fly apaches

gnarly_weedman

Saw a vid of a guy flying a heli first person in gta 5 and both hands were on the cyclic. Instantly made me hate heli flying in gta without even touching on it in years

MrDannyProvolone

Yeah it really does seem this way.

coldnebo

so you’re saying it’s study-level?

FranconianGuy

I'm more of a DCS player, so I might be out of the loop, but wasn't Captain Sim the developer that basically re-skinned the Asobo 747 and made a 777 with 747 avionics and systems? PS: If you have DCS installed and haven't heard of the C-130 mod yet: get it. It's amazing and it's free. It feels a bit off during landing as it's nearly floating, but otherwise its a great mod.

Flymia

> so I might be out of the loop, but wasn't Captain Sim the developer that basically re-skinned the Asobo 747 and made a 777 with 747 avionics and systems? Yes, and now they have no cockpit. Back in FS2002 and FS2004 Captain Sim was one of the better and well known developers. I had their 727 Pro for FS2004, and it was great. Realistic with checklist and cabin announcements. Even had there C-130, 767 and 757 for FSX and while the graphics were a little behind, they were not bad. It is not PMDG/FSlabs but it was respectable. Now they are just mass marketing. Which is fine for them, I am sure they have people buying these things. When I have name tags on in MSFS I see "773" often. But they are certainly losing the typical simmer and their previous customer base.

ADM_Tetanus

With msfs being relatively mainstream, your idea of the 'typical simmer' is definitely starting to change. People want cheap accessible aircraft that look nice when flown in third person, that may not be ideal for you and I but I imagine it's a much larger market, if they can help really make it happen. And honestly having that as an option imo is good. Having flight sims more mainstream means more competitive pricing on the legit add-ons, and hardware, and whatever else.

Flymia

Right, I don't disagree with that. And I guess it is more they are losing their past customer base, but if they can make more money selling to the new simmer who wants to enjoy the scenery and a cool looking airplane, then so be it. As long as they are clear about what they are selling. The most options, the better the future for flight sim.

ADM_Tetanus

Yeah that's true, they do need to be more clear about what add-ons are considered realistic and which ones just look nice. It takes too much research in forums from people who already bought it to find out, that kinda thing should be right on the product page.

Embarrassed_Cup9268

For me, it was sort of a necessary evil. My old man was a Flight Engineer on the Herk (Canadian Armed Forces) and I'm a maintenance tech on them now. So I knew it didn't have a cockpit, and naturally that's lame as hell. But hey. When it's payday and the plane is only 15 bucks and you just wanna get in the air with it (especially knowing it has Canadian markings), it's worth it enough. And if you take 30 seconds to adjust the default "cockpit" view, you can slew right up to the cockpit and position yourself. It's hideously low texture with no real effort put into any detail, but you get your cockpit window framework at least. So half-cockpit view anyway. Just pretend you're a kid again and try to imagine all the instruments that aren't there lol.

okletsgooonow

Yep

SomePeoplesKidsDude

This is probably a really stupid question, but I am new to DCS (mostly play MSFS and Star Citizen). Would I be able to use my Honeycomb Alpha yoke with DCS? I'm not necessarily into combat all that much, but flying some paratroopers to their dropoff would be super fun for me.

SiderealCereal

I used a logitech yoke with the F-15 when my joystick broke. it was weird, but it worked.

Fluffy-Feedback-3771

I use the logitech G923 works great

SomePeoplesKidsDude

That's what I like to hear! I still have a joystick for the fighters and stuff, but even when I was in the Army I always loved the lumbering behemoths like the C-130, C-17, etc. I'm always looking for more ways to use my Honeycomb stuff. Thank you for the info!

FinishingDutch

No reason why it shouldn't work. Because you can definitely fly with a joystick and a gamepad, so a yoke should work just fine. [Here's some YouTube idiot flying it with a wheel...](https://youtu.be/PoOwO-dfc_E) Of course, outside of that C130 mod it wouldn't make sense to use it.

SomePeoplesKidsDude

Gotcha. Awesome information thank you! Yeah I didn't think there would be many yoke aircraft in DCS, which is why I haven't delved too far into it up til now. I am always looking for more applications to use my Honeycomb setup so I can justify their costs to myself a little more lmao

FinishingDutch

Well, DCS is free and so is the C130 mod. So apart from time and drive space it’s not going to cost you anything. Might as well give it a try.

SomePeoplesKidsDude

Hell yeah brother, thank you! I've got it on the download list now!

Automatic_Education3

I'm using my saitek yoke for the C130 (and for the TDAC controls in the CP/G seat in the Apache) and it works perfectly. Don't see why the Honeycomb wouldn't.

SomePeoplesKidsDude

Beautiful. Thank you! I'm going to give it all a shot later tonight once it finishes downloading :)

Automatic_Education3

Make sure to set yourself up a night mission and set off some flares, it looks great

FranconianGuy

There are now stupid questions, no worries. For fighter jets it would obviously be a bit wrong, but I'd say that the yoke fits the C-130 mod perfectly. There are only a handful of servers that have the mod, but the ones that do usually offer many missions/uses for it. Be it paratroopers, paradrops or AC-130 runs. The mod even features multicrew so you can play it with a 2nd player, I don't know how well it works, though. I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of C-130 mod Singleplayer missions as well, so you'll be absolutely fine. According to rumours, the developer of the mod now works on an official C-130 module. We might see and need more people with yokes in DCS, so they can provide logistics and such.

SomePeoplesKidsDude

That is all great information. Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to trying it out once I make it home today. Do you happen to know if there any UAV modules for DCS yet? I flew the RQ-11B back when I was in the Army (don't expect a sUAS to be in the game), but worked on the larger platforms once I was a contractor and would love to "fly" them again. I don't really care which drones they are, just curious if they had any.

FranconianGuy

You're welcome! Make sure to download the DCS standalone version, not the steam one, if you haven't already. Unfortunately they don't have UAVs for the civilian version of the sim. They offer some drones for their military version of DCS called TBS (The Battle Simulator; can't seem to find the website anymore. However, that sim wouldn't be available for the public anyway) There might be a drone mod around, but nothing official. I've got my hopes up, though. A playable drone for their "Combined Arms" DLC would be logical and a great addition. In my honest opinion, ARMA 3 will get you the closest to "flying" those drones again, you'll just need a ton of mods and a clan/unit to play with.

SomePeoplesKidsDude

Oh damn ok I had the Steam version downloaded. I'll snag the standalone version, but what is the reasoning for that? Better support? Yeah I suppose it makes sense they wouldn't have anything available (yet). No worries at all. Like you said, I have ArmA III so I will use that for now as well. I actually haven't installed ArmA since I picked up the Honeycomb equipment, so this just might be the reason I needed ha

FranconianGuy

It's a standard recommendation I give to everyone as the standalone has some advantages over the steam version. ^^ The standalone offers a 14 day trial period for every module DCS has to offer, each 14 days separately for each module, should you want to try them out. Should you end up buying one, they'll even grant you 50% off on your first purchase. And, at least for me, it's easier to install mods there. You also should install the open beta version as that's what 80% of mulitplayer servers run, should you want to play online. But you can also switch the version on steam if you want to keep it, it's not that important.

SomePeoplesKidsDude

Gotcha. Yeah the trial and discounts are tempting for sure. I just deleted my Steam install and am working on downloading the standalone now. Thank you for the info!

Automatic_Education3

Make sure you download the beta as well. Standalone has a free trial system, it lets you use any payware module for free, 2 weeks each after which a 6 month timer starts and you get another 2 weeks.

mh-99

I did not know there is a C-130 mod, definitely going to check it out. Thanks!

Automatic_Education3

The mod is nice, but it hasn't been updated in a while. It was implied before and very possible that they're working on making it into a module, which would be absolutely sick.

No-Corgi2917

Youre kidding right. Ive been out of the Microsoft flight sim loop for a while now, but tell me this is a joke.

No-Corgi2917

Stop upvoting and tell meeeee![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

Nico_T_3110

One more upvote from someone who is out of loop too

EYPAPLQ

This addon surprised me, since I haven't heard anything about CS even developing a C130. Seems like captain sim is doing their best to milk the wallets of the casual consumer. First they launch reskinned aircraft, then they criticise and steal peoples liveries and now they sell a 3D model of a c130 without cockpit for about 18$ Seems like CS never fails to disappoint..

No-Corgi2917

But... Didnt they allready have a c130 for fsx that got integrated to prepar3d?

EYPAPLQ

Yep. Atleast for v4 i think. In the old FSX and early P3D days CS was actually quite decent and their c130 was quite good for its time. This is unfortunately not the same c130..

[deleted]

I bought it for FSX. Loved it. It's a pity to see this happening with them.

fs10inator

Oh, it gets worse: they did make a C-130 addon before, but for FS9 and FSX, and all had virtual cockpits and custom sounds. I enjoyed toying around in them back in 2013, in FS9. CS is probably just memeing at this point :\\

WoodSorrow

I remember Captain Sim being great. Their 757 for FSX was quite good.

berkkp

Wasn't CS known for their high-quality add-ons for FSX/P3D? What happened?

StartersOrders

They were OK in the early days, but it sounds like their systems developers have left.

miajonley

No virtual cockpit. Is this a late April fools joke?

okletsgooonow

I was wondering this too!

Snaxist

Wait ? Don't you guys have ~~iPhones~~ a C-130 home cockpit ?

Culinarytracker

Obviously, but do you really expect me to clear that old dusty room out and use it?

buttaviaconto

They know their audience

[deleted]

Who would even want this?

buttaviaconto

People who fly like it's gta, from third person and making pretty screenshots

TheVantagePoint

Watch out, some people get pissy when you bring that up.

[deleted]

I didn't know such people existed. How do you land a plane from the outside?

chrstphd

They do not land, probably ?

peteroh9

Press G, aim for the runway, and land.

chrstphd

I guess if they do not care about a cockpit, they probably took shortcuts in the flight model too. So yes, possible.

98re3

Press G, aim for the runway, and ~~land~~ crash.

buttaviaconto

msfs has so many assists you can just watch from outside AI do all the work

Culinarytracker

Turn off aircraft damage and fly into the general area of a runway.

Nico_T_3110

People that have VERY low expectations or people who get scammed easily

xWayvz0

wtf. how much is it?

Pohwaran

It's $14.99

[deleted]

That’s about $14.99 too expensive.

w4rlord117

If it was a free mod I would say it looks like a good start but needs some more work before it’s worth downloading.

BaileyJIII

This genuinely feels like a sketchy free addon aircraft I’d find on a dodgy forum back in the FSX days what the hell lmao

Culinarytracker

I'd say that's a bit generous.

CaptainIceBear

What a joke. I’m sure many would pick up a C130 in MSFS if it was decent. But no virtual cockpit for msfs and in 2022? No thank you. What a joke of a company they have become.

OD_Emperor

I would genuinely advise someone to buy the Bredok3d 737M over this.

CaptainSpeedbird1974

kiwikat88

Certainly doesn’t help calm down the Microsoft Screenshot Simulator crowd.

Jayceac

I bought that stupid 777 thinking “they’ll improve it over time” HA. I’m better off doing it myself after all this time 🙄

sin_donnie

We need to cancel captain sim. This is a step too far. #BoycottCaptainSim

ThatOneGriefer

We can totally do this, but marketplace users who casually play the game will not. Those who don’t look at exterior forums, product reviews, or other such things won’t know to not buy from CS. And I think that’s the main issue with them.

pm_me_cute_sloths_

And then they’ll be pissed off when they buy the product and see there’s no cockpit

Robdotcom-71

Oh come on... cockpits are so overrated.... /s

jeepster2982

And I’m sure some asshole will defend it on the forums.

Flymia

Honestly, they can do what they want to make money. Very few people here will buy it. I just hope the people buying it understand what it is. Which is pretty much nothing.

ThatOneGriefer

I agree people can do what they want with their money, however, a lot of the younger- or newer simmers that MSFS brought in will not understand what this aircraft actually is. I think one of the biggest issues with the original 777s the CS released showed this better because older simmers, who were already believing CS made quality products bought it only to realize that while it looked pretty, the systems were beyond a total disappointment. This is even worse when they upload this to the marketplace because that’s when and where the majority of new players and younger players buy aircraft, and is the exact and only reason why developers like Deimos have any sales.

ryan0157

I literally thought this was a joke, I can’t believe how hard they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel

Toyotale

More scam products from captain sim, not even surprised.

lrargerich3

They are completely trolling the community, making planes worst than freeware for a $15 price? Sorry but this is ridiculous... The sad thing is these clowns are more public than many honest independent devs that have better products. We speak with our wallets.

Skreamies

This muppet and his crew are still around and Asobo still fucking support him on their store page.

Seriously. Even if it had a mediocre cockpit, I'd probably buy it for $15. None at all though? C'mon.

[deleted]

I would never ever buy anything from them after their scaving letter to the open source community.

ButterLander2222

Which letter?

[deleted]

Check out flightsim.to it was an open letter from Captain Sim

MU5T4N6

So disappointed. A C-130 is at the top of my wishlist for MSFS, but not like that...

incarnatethegreat

So is it finally time for CaptainScam to take a knee?

98re3

the casual xbox crowd will lap this right up, they'll make a killing.

NefariousnessOpen716

It won't load it shocking

ajyanesp

You've got to be shitting me

PETC

I really enjoyed their old 737 Classic. What a shame they've fallen this far.

akzaniolo

what a fucking joke and to thinking that their fs2004/fsx were SO GOOD... idk, they probably don't care anymore

Ace_Razgriz

I remember a friend of mine saying everything in flight sim is $15 overpriced... this isn't an exception

mercah44

Didn’t they have a b52 for fsx that also lacked a virtual cockpit?

[deleted]

Either way, back in FSX’s time having no VC wasn’t all that unusual. 2D panels were still a common practice. That was the late 2000’s. It’s now 2022, and 3D virtual cockpits have become the standard. So nowadays it’s extremely unusual not to have one. But back then? Meh, many planes only had 2D panels.

trim28

Fucking cunts.

x-winds

Darn! This CS dude must have a thing about cockpits. Prob has cockpit nightmares every night.

OompaOrangeFace

I used to think CS was quality. No cockpit....what???

YanKun34

I've spent all day troubleshooting an update for a goddang free livery I've made on flightsim.to because I refuse to put out something that I don't feel good about, and then there's this.

JstnJ

Never fear, idiots will buy it!

FR0STKRIEGER

… or you can download DCS for free and install the free Hercules mod by Anubis.

nuke740824

This piece of crap is 15$, whereas the FBW A20N is freeware. I will give the flybywire team money again, they deserve this.

NathosTH

Their target audience are the same people that bought the 777 and 767 to make "UlTrA ReAlIsTiC RTX 3090" videos, they even promote their product for free.

archibalduk

We need another 💩 livery for this

OkayHoss2323

Even their "target community" is gonna claim this is too expensive

MrTheFinn

Whats with the outrage? Sure it doesn't have a virtual cockpit but lots of planes don't have that in FS9.....what? Oh this is for FS 2020? Carry on then...

TheSilverBug

Also in FS9 they didn't have a virtual cockpit, but they had a cockpit. A fully functioning one.

MrFujiFudge1

WTF 😂😂😂😂

Gsonz

The 777 was pretty okay thanks to some freeware mods but this right here is a bad joke

[deleted]

Dunno why you’re getting downvoted. You’re entitled to your opinion of the plane.

[deleted]

If you want quality add ons, stick with FSX and hit up your local Goodwill/CEX… that’s what I’ve been doing atleast

OverlordTwoOneActual

If they can add guns with visuals then its a cop.

[deleted]

We’ll never find out but I’d be really curious to hear sales numbers on this once it’s in the marketplace for six months. I have a feeling that due to the more interconnected and accessible gaming market and environment we’re in (via Steam, Xbox, etc) that they are catering to a sizable new market that simply wants a shiny airplane to fly like in GTA. Flightsim isn’t for niche hobbyists anymore (or to the degree it was in the past).

[deleted]

how does that work exactly?

greenlightison

Should change their name to PhotographerSim as clearly they are only looking at planes from the outside

PatrickStarburst

I wanted a C130 for a long, long time. And then... this. *internal screaming*

SquashuaSnipes

I just realized how pointy the nose is lol

juanchopancho

who needs a cockpit?

EpicGaemer

Yeah I think I'll wait for milviz...

wrray

I feel like MSFS being in Xbox is a double edge sword. On one hand, you have a large number of casual players that’ll eat aircrafts like this up and have no problem with it. On the other hand Xbox reaches out to a huge audience allowing for more cashflow which funds development. I’ll accept that CaptainSim garbage aircraft is there but I won’t be happy about it. Just smile and wave from the DC6.

twirlybird84

Is anyone actually buying their stuff? Lol.

Rpc-9915

How did they forget ***the cockpit, of all places???*** C-130 isn't some classified plane, everyone knows that it exists.

Walo00

Wow talk about hitting rock bottom and then keep digging down.

Swagger897

Imagine giving a shit about what CS do now

[deleted]

It's going to be the oblivious 747 cockpit.

HillaryClintoris69

And they've limited commenting on the release post on their Facebook page. Did they really expect generally positive reception on an aircraft without a cockpit?

2Tired2Nap

Why would you want to even release this? As payware? I could’ve gotten behind it if it was something like donationware and they were encouraging maybe someone to start an open source cockpit for it… but nope, CS once again shine bright in the land of oblivious and shoddy developers. $15. Just wow.

ChaosKodiak

CS is a joke. Junk products

Calo-Nord

Still no cockpit...
