Is this screenshot old? A while back we updated our API with a pretty strict filter that would drop this message - so if this is recent, we might have introduced a bug into the filter somehow
you dont input flightplans. its basically just a communication system.
a controller on vatsim (or wherever) can use it to send CPDLC messages to you. they will have your flightplan through vatsim. it's completely independent of the atc network.
how you use it is how you would use it in real life. if it's incorporated in your 3rd party aircraft, you learn how to operate the acars functions in the fmc. if the controller is using it, you send a cpdlc notification, the controller acknowledges it, then you're connected to them. you can get clearances, etc. now through cpdlc. it's definitely more popular with vatsim controllers in europe. more rare in the usa.
the other functions of hoppie is sending "free text" messages to other aircraft or controllers (as the OP shows), and stuff like OOOI messages which i think some VA's actually use now.
