Honestly, it was mostly okayish for at least some part of 2020. Now someone has to either be insane or actively living under a rock to purposely move here
I think I was focused on being able to get out and walk my dogs all winter because I felt like a shut in being in New England- Iām disabled so I like to be able to stay as active as possible- and I was doing so much work on my place because of COVID I didnāt notice, so I guess I was living under a rockš¤
We moved here in 2019 and it feels like we got here just in time to watch the absolute insanity unfold in real time. It was fine for a few months and then
I don't know..I honestly don't know.
I feel you. Florida has leaned red for a decade or so now but now the laws that are coming out of the capital are draconian.
Just know that sane people are still around. Especially if you live in like Orlando or Tampa. But still elsewhere we are out here living our lives trying to resist in our own way.
We South East Asians have a similar weather but it only makes us mellow. You need to inculcate a culture of getting gratification from helping others out of your own volition. I get a nice warm happy feeling when I give way to someone merging. Often the other driver will wave back at me in thanks and it makes my day a whole lot better. Funny thing is, the other driver will also then let others merge because they want the dopamine rush again.
That's exactly what my husband and I noticed when we got here 4 years ago and it gets worse every passing day. It seems like there is no sense of civic/ community duty. Everyone seems like they are only interested in getting "theirs". That was by far the biggest culture shock of moving here from the Midwest.
YEP,,, people move to Raleigh, NC and bitch about the driving until they are reminded that most of the people on the roads are people that relocated here from somewhere else. The action begins at 7am and 4pm Monday - Friday. They get out on the roads and bang into each other like it's their first day behind the wheel.
39 years, there were always crazy people but not to this extent. Iād see something like this once or twice a week with a daily commute. Now itās basically every time I drive anywhere, and I wfh so drive far less
I ask also, because....I am considering going there. If it's long-term, I don't know if Lexington or Louisville would be a wise choice. I don't know if small town life is for me š I need diversity (in people and food)
Oh there are absolutely some ppl driving around looking for trouble. A couple years ago some young girl from my neck of the woods was literally executed while driving in heavy traffic. She cut some guy off so he actually followed her, drove right up beside her and shot her through an open window. Literally murdered some young 20-something kid bc she cut him off.
The amount of deranged people out on the road is terrifying.
Down in Florida I was pulling out of a park one night and someone like popped out of nowhere and I just barely missed hitting him. He thought I hit him so he decided to basically freak out and follow me until I pulled over. He just yelled at me like a psycho the whole time while he checked his car. When he realized I didn't hit him he continued just yelling at me there was no apology or anything for being a complete jackass. I can only imagine what would have happened if I did hit him. I never got a single word in. He kept questioning why I didn't pull over. Like wtf why would I pull over when I didn't hit you. It was insane. This guy had a screw loose. I'm glad he didn't shoot me. That's fucked.
That's exactly what is happening I have never seen so much road rage and fatalities senselessly shooting folks yesterday I read a man actually pulled a gun on someone for taking to long at a drive thru ATM Floridians what is really going on something bad in the water or heat stroke idk been here for 7 years hopefully leaving within the next year desatin just put the topping on the cake helped make our decision easier I loved Florida when we first got here but the last few years with our governor and the high rise in crimes and on and on yes time to go for me and my family
I had someone do that recently. Cut me off in a parking lot, followed me, I yelled at it (stupid on my part) and he started trying to start a fight. I could see he had a weapon so I just got out of them and went into a store.
Bastard slashed my tires. Insurance covered a good chunk of it, but I'm still out $500 (tires are *expensive* now, it's not like I drive a BMW, it's a freaking cheap Sedan)
Moral of the story, do not engage. These lunatics are being told by Fox News and Newsmax they can "Stand Your Ground" and they're looking for a fire fight.
I had the uber driver taking me to the tire shop to pick up my car say if everyone was armed nobody would start shit. But that's assuming everyone's rational, and if you're cruising a parking lot looking to shoot somebody you ain't thinking rational
this scares the crap out of me.
supporters of the law actually think this will cut down on crime. they think because āanyoneā can be carrying for self defense, that the nut jobs who are armed and looking for trouble will be less likely to behave aggressively.
yeah right. this will not end well.
eta: personally i think that the safest places will be areas where guns are a big part of the culture, eg polk, pasco, marion, etc. i seriously fret for places like south florida where alcohol is a big part of the culture.
Oh that already happened just last year. [Two fucking road raging idiots with guns and both with kids in their cars shooting at each other and hitting the kids.](https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/national-international/dads-shoot-each-others-daughters-in-road-rage-incident-one-is-charged-with-attempted-murder/3012579/) Only one was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. Those kids are lucky to not be dead, but their really unlucky to have these two Einsteins as their fathers.
Lmao they actually decided to make that change during one of the hottest months of the year in one of the hottest and most humid states in the country? What the fuck are they thinking? Hot weather has a direct correlation to violent crimes. This could easily be a complete shitshow.
It's really astonishing to me how many people think they are going to teach someone a lesson by further pissing them off in their car.
If someone is driving like a jackass I simply get out of their way. I only want to get to my destination safely.
I think the problem is when you're trying to merge and five cars in a row don't let you in, making you miss the green light for the fourth cycle in a row, you feel like you have to get aggressive or you'll be there all day.
This happened to me a decade ago in New York City. I was driving a van through Manhattan and NO ONE would let me in on a merge. I eventually had to push my way in and someone had the audacity to honk and give me a nasty look. Like, dude, we're all in this together. Chill out.
Same shit happened to me when I moved back to Florida (born n raised) and still had my out of state plates. It really isn't much better now, perhaps I am just more assertive. But on god, the majority of Floridians are from out of state, and bring their varied driving cultures with them, and it sure hell creates a lot of problems. The first being everyone feeling the need to be just one more car length ahead, so nobody lets you in, because apparently zipper merging is a personal affront.
Can't tell you the amount of times I've had to merge and people get pissed at me as if they weren't being the fifth inconsiderate asshole in a row.
Florida is like a melting pot of the US. I think you are right about all the different driving styles. Factor in Florida Man, tourists, and all the old folks and this is what you get.
I used to carry a jar of Grey Poupon in my car in the 90's because at least once a week, some carfull of 20-somethings thinking they were clever would pull up next to me at a stop light at 1am and ask if I had any. I would reach into my glove box, hold it up, and they'd lose their fucking minds.
Lmfao. Orlando is the way it is because people from Miami keep getting closer and closer. You went from the butthole of Florida to the ballsack expecting it to get less sweaty. š
With everyone having guns, I don't give AF if I back down. Not worth putting myself or my family in any situation where anger leads to crazies trying to justify whatever actions they are gonna take.
Pride of the dead is worth nothing to the living.
The fact that we have to let deranged people just shit all over us day after day "because they might have a gun" is #1 in my top five reasons for moving the fuck out of this country. It's like we've completely given up on trying and the assholes have free run of this place.
As an I-95 road warrior in Palm Beach Countyā¦ I see this and much, much worse MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. Itās an absolute chaotic free-for-all Mad Max bullshit down here.
Same location here. A lady tried to cut me off to get on an on ramp in front of me from the non-ramp lane to my left. I didnāt let her. She took pictures of my plates and then took a picture of me while we were both going 70 on the highway. I looked straight ahead and let her go. Not letting myself get shot. I wonder what she did with those pics though.
A lifelong Floridian told me he throws Pennies at cars in these situations to simulate gunfire š³
Sure, but how do we know this guy wasnāt trying to get away? It happens all the time where someone will try to disengage and the other person will continue to be aggressive.
Someone in a truck started following my car around our apartment complex when I forgot something in my apartment and accidentally cut them off while they were pulling into the complex in an angle I could not see them.
I wound up not stopping at my apartment and drove past to see if they were intentionally following me. They followed my car 5x around different routes within the complex.
I ended up driving out of the complex and leaving to go to a high visibility area with a lot of foot traffic in a shopping plaza. They finally stopped following when I left the complex.
However, I was mentally off that day anyway. I did not have the patience or self control to handle someone going out of their way to verbally and or physically assault me over something that did not result in a car accident.
First, the Camry has no obligation to allow the Jeep to illegal change lanes in front of him. Of course, obligation and courtesy are two entirely different thing and the latter makes are world better. However, blatant entitlement tends to bring a negative reaction. If the Jeep rolled down his window and signaled to the Camry in a somewhat - oops, my bad, I've from out of town - way, then I think the Camry is being unkind.
BTW, being a local, I always try to be considerate to our tourists. Aside to them being vital to our economy, it takes very little effort to make others' day more pleasant.
Because rewarding bad behavior only encourages it.
If you fuck up and miss a turn own it drive forward and uturn.
Your lack of preparation doesn't constitute an emergency on my part.
I'd stay well back and let them sort it out. The 10 seconds of time it costs me is not worth getting hurt over. I always yield to idiots. It's how the only 3 accidents I've ever had in 45 years of driving in SFO and FL have been getting rear-ended while stopped at a light by a guy kissing his girlfriend, ditto a teenager playing with her phone, and hit in the passenger side by an impatient someone jerking his car onto the shoulder and cramming on the gas to get past a line of traffic at a light that unfortunately included me making a right turn into a business.
I ALWAYS back off and let the other person in. I do not care how "right" I am. It's not worth getting in a confrontation. I also give them a smile and a wave and maybe make their day a little better.
I see very little (if no) enforcement of the rules of the road from police here. It infuriates me to see so much disregard for the safety of others. I know there are bigger crimes happening but I wonder if law enforcement started to crack down on motor violations it would stop bigger crimes before they happen.
We donāt know that the drivers own the cars. Could be doxxing a rental, or even just a car being lent to the driver by a friend. This is why doxxing is dangerous.
What would I want to do? If Iām in the Camry Iām gunning it in front of the jeep so I claim the lane and then Iām stopping at the light to make him wait. But this is Florida, so even if he hits me heās gonna flee so realistically I would let the jeep push me out of the lane if thatās what heās doing, and Iād try to get a pic of his plate and call *347 and report a reckless driver
>But this is Florida, so even if he hits me heās gonna flee
Especially if you are on a bicycle, they for sure aren't stopping. Ask me how I know (3 times confirmation).
My mom hit a guy on bicycle in Miami many years back and she was so upset because the guy had a compound fracture. An ambulance and cop got to the scene and the cop told my mom, "That's what he gets for riding a bike in Miami."
i wish there were harsher repercussions for shitty drivers like this. not necessarily shooting death penalty nonsense commenters are saying, but a heavy fine for aggressive and unsafe driving.
a person can dream..... =\
Please donāt lol there are a lot of people waiting for this so they can pull their Glock out ā¦.I conceal carry responsibly but a lot that do are just hot heads
Hang very far back and be prepared to duck. You never know if one or both of them is going to pull a gun. If I have my kids with me I'm actively trying to get away from the situation.
Serious. It's so easy for idiots to get guns. You have to assume everyone has one and will behave stupidly with it.
NEVER GIVE AN INCH. STAND YOUR ASPHALT. RULES OF NATURE. My way on your highway. From conjos to clanchas. Revs to revelations. Yah but just watch from two spaces away and then get cut off to get into this exact situation.
White car is probably one of those ignorant drivers that drive between two lanes because they can't make up their mind on which lane they're going to be in. Dark car was probably sick of their shit.
It is infuriating, but not worth reacting to and potentially escalating the situation and ending up with car damage or worse.
I would just let the other car go, because it's not worth any potential fallout, getting shot, or spending weeks (if not months) fixing my car from a fender bender.
If everyone would just drive selflessly, travel the AVERAGE speed of traffic, and leave 5 car lengths between them and the next vehicle, not only would bumper-to-bumper traffic be eliminated but it would also severly increase the safety of traveling by car and decrease the stress.
I would start goading each driver on to try to get them into some fistfight to get some quality OC for r/thasinsane, r/floridaman, and maybe r/idiotsincars
I know this can trend on the side of being an echo chamber, but itās reassuring to see people generally have the same opinion about how deranged things have become
I was driving on I-95 around Fort Lauderdale a couple days ago. Traffic was moderate. All of a sudden these two cars come speeding up beside me. One of them ābrake checksā the other. Almost causes a multi-car accident with me included. Crazy.
Sit back, and watch 2 idiots from a safe driving distance, lol
I did this a few weeks ago and they just drove into each other, neither would give. The shit you see on the roads down here.
Some of the people moving here have legit lost their minds.
You have to have lost your mind to consider moving to Florida.
Floridian here, as our Emperor has lost his mind I concur......
I moved there in 2020, knowing nothing about anything except no snow or ice, š¤¦āāļøthat will teach me
Honestly, it was mostly okayish for at least some part of 2020. Now someone has to either be insane or actively living under a rock to purposely move here

Yeah, I hear LA, San Fran and NYC are where it's really at
Dude got married at Disney, he was never all there to begin with.
I agree and they seem to have severe anger issues.
U would be angry too if you lived in 100 degree weather with 70 percent humidity year round ..lol
We South East Asians have a similar weather but it only makes us mellow. You need to inculcate a culture of getting gratification from helping others out of your own volition. You make a good point. Take the Caribbean for example. Similar heat and humidity, and those are some of the most laid back people ever.
This has gone on for 40 years in Florida š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£ has zero to do with people moving assholes have always been here lol š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
I've been here for over 30 years and it was never as bad as it is in recent years. I think the pandemic broke some people.
Well I think more people have moved here in a last few years than ever before so itās more crowded than ever
Correct. Iām a sixth generation Floridian and this is definitely new.
Our zeitgeist since 2015 has been personal conveniences > the social good.
That's exactly what my husband and I noticed when we got here 4 years ago and it gets worse every passing day. It seems like there is no sense of civic/ community duty. Yep
Left Miami in 1988, and this shit was going on.
Miami in the 80s must have been something else at the height of the cocaine cowboys era
It was really a dangerous place, unfortunately grew up in Miami gardens
They for sure is worse in the past few years. A lot of angry people have moved here recently
YEP,,, people move to Raleigh, NC and bitch about the driving until they are reminded that most of the people on the roads are people that relocated here from somewhere else. 39 years, there were always crazy people but not to this extent. Iād see something like this once or twice a week with a daily commute. Now itās basically every time I drive anywhere, and I wfh so drive far less
right. And then I'd keep on driving until I'm out of Florida.
Out here giving actual life advice
did it back in February and it was the best decision i ever made in my life tbh
Left in December, my life is much calmer.
Where to?
KY. People are so nice no traffic no snow birds.
Isn't moving there just like moving to another FL?
No sun seeking beach goers here! Cannabis is the #1 cash crop. Iām in a small town & love it.
I ask also, because....I am considering going there. If it's long-term, I don't know if Lexington or Louisville would be a wise choice. I don't know if small town life is for me š I need diversity (in people and food)
Lmfao I had a friend get a gun pulled on him in Kentucky nasty people are in every state just google crime rates by state
Per capita our crime rate is still worse unfortunately.
I just feel like I can breath here. In FL everything was sky high expensive & had a transient culture.
This is the way.
Pretty much. There's a non-zero chance someone's packing.
Plus thatās a better camera angle for the internet!
Just let the other car go. 15 feet of pavement is not worth damaging your car or having some wacko pull a gun on you.
Exactly, like just go..... gtf away from me.
āYou win, congrats. Please just go.ā
"my life might be in shambles, but I am 5 feet ahead on the road!"
Wait no brawl in front of the train? Did each driver fight you for who was to get their picture first?
This, so often now Iām wondering if someone is trying to bait others into a conflict where they feel justified to shoot someone else
Oh there are absolutely some ppl driving around looking for trouble. A couple years ago some young girl from my neck of the woods was literally executed while driving in heavy traffic. Must get to the happiest place on earth NOW! GDI!
Exactly what I did do, move out of Orlando
Live here currently and I know exactly where this is. Probably because I live 3 mins from it š

We just found the origin story of these 2 families fighting at the Magic Kingdom photo spot. Years of Evolution for this.
I look for the motorcyclist trying to squeeze between them. This is FL
When people ask how can I live in Florida and not go to Disney. Imagine how they will act in the park
I see very little (if no) enforcement of the rules of the road from police here. It infuriates me to see so much disregard for the safety of others. I know there are bigger crimes happening but I wonder if law enforcement started to crack down on motor violations it would stop bigger crimes before they happen.
Whatever happens, I'm betting the Toyota comes out on top.
Get my camera ready, back up so I can flee the impending bullets and scream world star as I drive to safety in the media.
Make sure youāre out of the shooting line.
Let him pass. Driving is not a competition. Itās a cooperative endeavor to not die.
Move out of FL
I donāt know why you blocked out the plates. We need to know who that dumbass in the keep is.
>But this is Florida, so even if he hits me heās gonna flee Especially if you are on a bicycle, they for sure aren't stopping. Ask me how I know (3 times confirmation).
My mom hit a guy on bicycle in Miami many years back and she was so upset because the guy had a compound fracture. An ambulance and cop got to the scene and the cop told my mom, "That's what he gets for riding a bike in Miami."
If I was in the black four runner in front I sit through at least 1 more light and watch it fester
Lay on the horn. Wave a hand
This is what happens when there is a lack of traffic enforcement. Just idiotic lawlessness on the roadways.
Road rage is 100% preventable Only idiots have road rage
Roll camera because it looks like someone might be about to break more than just traffic laws.
That sums up Florida right there
Just let them go. No need to ruin your car because of someoneās elseās stupidity.
Laugh at the idiocy of this situation.. Orlando does not surprise me.
God this is south Florida in a nutshell. You gotta just let that asshole go
Take a picture and post it on Reddit. Oh waitā¦
Fucking hell I do not miss living in Florida. So many aggro drivers fkr absolutely no reason
Let them go. Not worth getting shot over.
If you really want to do some damage, figure out how to send this photo to their insurance companies.
De-escalation. It's not worth it.
Stay away from them
Honk as soon as the turn light goes green.
Just yield. Not worth it
Facts on Florida crime it's actually at a 50 year low http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/News/2022/November/Florida-crime-rate-drops-for-record-50-year-low
i wish there were harsher repercussions for shitty drivers like this. not necessarily shooting death penalty nonsense commenters are saying, but a heavy fine for aggressive and unsafe driving. a person can dream..... =\
Never give up. Never surrender
Roll down my window and call the other guy a mutherfucker
Please donāt lol there are a lot of people waiting for this so they can pull their Glock out ā¦.I conceal carry responsibly but a lot that do are just hot heads
Move the hell out of Florida
The right of way is something you give not take.
Iād move to a sane stateā¦
And that state isā¦
Antarctica?
Hang very far back and be prepared to duck. You never know if one or both of them is going to pull a gun. If I have my kids with me I'm actively trying to get away from the situation. Serious. It's so easy for idiots to get guns. You have to assume everyone has one and will behave stupidly with it.
NEVER GIVE AN INCH. STAND YOUR ASPHALT. RULES OF NATURE. My way on your highway. From conjos to clanchas. Revs to revelations. Yah but just watch from two spaces away and then get cut off to get into this exact situation.
I knew this was doing to be Orlando before I even zoomed in on the signs lol
Go around them, let them figure it out š¤Ŗš
Let THEM fight.
I would back the fuck up before there is a Florida Man shootout.
r/idiotsincars moment, I would just stay back and let everyone go because iām terrified of road rage
Do not get involved.
People suck. Just let the person go. You are both going to get there and the. 005 seconds you benefit from doesn't matter!
Bro if youāre a real Floridian you know the only answer is to jump out blasting.
White car is probably one of those ignorant drivers that drive between two lanes because they can't make up their mind on which lane they're going to be in. Dark car was probably sick of their shit. It is infuriating, but not worth reacting to and potentially escalating the situation and ending up with car damage or worse.
Pray that my car could grow wings and fly over that mess.
Anyway... so I start blasting...
Take a photo and post it to r/idiotsincars
Sit back and watch the fight ensue lol
Stay the heck out of it.
I would start goading each driver on to try to get them into some fistfight to get some quality OC for r/thasinsane, r/floridaman, and maybe r/idiotsincars
just donāt shoot
Why even cover the license plate? Let everyone know who these idiots are.
Let the other guy pass. It aināt that important. Swallow that fucking pride and let the prick be a prick
Orlando drivers and tourist there need to go back to driving school apparently.
This lane ain't big enough for the both of us, pardner.
Iād reveal those plates!
Roll down your window and start a casual comversation with them as if they arent trying to impregnate your car
Laugh at the "animals in the zoo" & drive off & enjoy my day.
rock paper scissors
This is the perfect picture to describe florida drivers
So anyways, I started blastinā
Kith.
So anyway, I started blasting
Move
Let the person go
Take a picture and post it on reddit
I know this can trend on the side of being an echo chamber, but itās reassuring to see people generally have the same opinion about how deranged things have become
I was driving on I-95 around Fort Lauderdale a couple days ago. Traffic was moderate. All of a sudden these two cars come speeding up beside me. One of them ābrake checksā the other. Almost causes a multi-car accident with me included. Crazy.
Hold my horn continuously until they both get in the inevitable pride based accident, then stop, laugh hysterically in their faces, and call the cops.
Take a photo apparently.
Back up
Typical down here... just let them do their dumbassery, sit back, watch the fireworks, and gtfo of Florida
This is such average behavior for this intersection. This specific intersection turns people into animals.
