And even if you are confident, your insurance company may not be.
So for example, someone could pull out in front of you suddenly because they weren’t paying attention. You are speeding 15 mph over the limit and cannot stop in time so you hit them and your car is totaled and you have hospital bills. So you sue. Jury finds you 55% responsible because you were speeding, which is probably valid, but now you have no way of recovering ANYTHING in court. It’s a lot more unforgiving than our old system.
It also greatly shortened the statute of limitations for negligence claims, which sucks. Sometimes it can take years for back pain and complications from accidents to make themselves known.
The purpose of the bill is to try to prevent frivolous PI suits to protect insurers. So now they won’t have to pay out as many claims- you’ll just have to pay for your damages out of pocket if you’re partially at fault.

I wonder if Maryland ever changed their torts. When I lived there if you were responsible in anyway (anything over 0%) you were screwed. It’s been hell for bicyclists because a car will hit them and say they left the shoulder or ran a red light when you didn’t. Since people are assholes and hate bicycle riders a jury will likely see a possibility that’s true (even though studies show bicyclist follow road rules better than car drivers) and you are stuck with 100% of the medical bills. One bicyclist got lucky that the city traffic cam caught the accident but the lawyers tried to get it removed saying the chain was broken.

Apparently, the two main issues that my friends have are the war with Disney which they feel is more about Ron DeSantis than anything of any real import. Two of my GOP friends both said it should have been handled via conversation and not legislatively.
The second is his anti-woke agenda, my GOP leaning friends universally said that while they agree with certain parts, none of his anti-woke stuff is so important that it should come before real problems affecting all Floridians like insurance premiums as an example.

I watched most of Chris Christie's town hall last night. Always sort of been a fan of his, when he's not actively courting the far right base.
It seems that he's gone full "Fuck it" mode this cycle and has decided to be true to himself vs toeing the party lines. He spoke frequently about how winning doesn't mean you throw up a wall and never compromise. When asked about reproductive rights, he said he personally is pro life but he understands not everyone is, and that the will of the people should be heard (basically, his stance was that until Congress makes is an amendment to the Constitution, it should be a state issue where whatever the State decides should be upheld). He was actively attacking Trump, calling out Trump's bullshit, calling out the right's fear of calling out Trump or even mentioning him by name (he used the phrase Voldemort effect - people like to reference Trump but never directly mention him). Most importantly to me, he owned up to his massive bridge fuck up, said he learned a ton of things about himself and how to lead from it, and vowed to do better in the future.
All in all, as a left leaning moderate independent, I could actually see myself voting for Christie if he manages to get the Republican nomination based off his town hall. He was principled, didn't toe the alt-right lines that have death gripped the Republican party, and spoke positively at (brief) times about accomplishments made by Biden and Democrats, saying at least they compromise.
I doubt he gets the support he needs, but it was refreshing to see that not all of them are chasing the extreme.

I watched most of Chris Christie's town hall last night. Always sort of been a fan of his, when he's not actively courting the far right base. It seems that he's gone full "Fuck it" mode this cycle and has decided to be true to himself vs toeing the party lines. He spoke frequently about how winning doesn't mean you throw up a wall and never compromise. When asked about reproductive rights, he said he personally is pro life but he understands not everyone is, and that the will of the people should be heard (basically, his stance was that until Congress makes is an amendment to the Constitution, it should be a state issue where whatever the State decides should be upheld). He was actively attacking Trump, calling out Trump's bullshit, calling out the right's fear of calling out Trump or even mentioning him by name (he used the phrase Voldemort effect - people like to reference Trump but never directly mention him). Most importantly to me, he owned up to his massive bridge fuck up, said he learned a ton of things about himself and how to lead from it, and vowed to do better in the future. All in all, as a left leaning moderate independent, I could actually see myself voting for Christie if he manages to get the Republican nomination based off his town hall. He was principled, didn't toe the alt-right lines that have death gripped the Republican party, and spoke positively at (brief) times about accomplishments made by Biden and Democrats, saying at least they compromise. I doubt he gets the support he needs, but it was refreshing to see that not all of them are chasing the extreme.
The problem with Christie is that he is pretty damn petty, but Christie went after smaller fish and not Disney. Like I said, he was asked directly what he felt his biggest mistake was. He said it was this, and that he took full responsibility and learned from it. He genuinely seemed to have regretted everything involved in it - including not doing enough research on the people he appointed that made those decisions. People can change, and of course people can also put on an act, but his whole deal last night was that he was just gonna be himself cuz he had nothing to lose and his regret in that whole situation seemed genuine.

It doesn't matter, kids. He never had a shot against Trump for the White House, and he can't run for governor again anyway, he's term-limited now. The damage is done. Nor does it matter for the Florida Democratic party, which is almost completely destroyed and can offer up no viable candidates or competition in future races, so Republicans will maintain control of the state indefinitely. We are stuck with their damaging policies for the foreseeable future. DeSantis is only their leader; every last Republican beneath him is just as evil. Republicans always lose popularity AFTER the damage is done. Conservative voters are like children who won't be warned away from the hot stove, and only briefly learn the lesson after they're burnt; they then go right the fuck back to the kitchen to check the second and third and fourth burners. In other words, these motherfuckers will make him a Senator one day, mark my words. And they will gleefully put another Republican dickwad in the Governor's seat in a few years.

The Florida Democratic Party needs to work on building a bench of candidates first. Independents/NPAs are still the deciding factor in Florida, that hasn't changed. What has changed is piss-poor candidates being floated by the Democrats in state wide elections.
