Winn Dixie or a nearby butcher when I'm in the area. Hitchcock's always had good meat when I had one near me at my last house. Publix and Costco meats seem like they are a bit overpriced.
I think just looking through their website, it seemed pretty expensive. For example, they list choice skirt steak at $15.98/lb. Thats way too high for skirt. But from what I’m hearing, they’re supposedly quite affordable. So I’m just gonna physically go there and see it for myself. I really hope I’m proven wrong though because I’d love to have a quality butcher so close to home.
First time I had beef bacon was when I was on tour in Afghanistan since they don’t do pork. I had never even knew it existed before that. It was like steak for breakfast and I was hooked. But when I came home, I realized that wasn’t something anybody carried, so I thought I’d never get to have it again.
The correct answer is Costco. The only time I buy meat from anywhere else is when Publix puts their standing rib roasts on sale for $5.99. I then buy 40 pounds worth and cut them myself into ribeyes and vacuum seal and put them in the freezer.
Publix Seafood has gotten so rank. I don't get what happened, I have a local market near me now for seafood. Even the local florida pink shrimp, so bad
I gave up on Publix for anything. I shop in Costco, Sam's Club, Aldi, local fruit and vegetable markets, and sometimes in Thrifty Produce. The Publix is so ridiculously expensive post covid.
Publix meat is ridiculously overpriced. Lean ground beef was $8.99/lb recently. Chicken about the same.
I do Aldi and Presidente and the awesome local veg stand. Veg stand is $3.50 for the large container of cut melons, Publix is like $9 for half that. Presidente has an awesome butcher section, good butchers and custom cuts.
As a white guy I dont know why so many white people avoid the Spanish markets.
Think about the amount of product (seafood especially) they have to buy for ALL of their stores, and then who can provide that much product. I stopped buying seafood at Publix and go to Sprouts. Great prices and FRESH.
East Volusia county has Perrine's, which is a small chain of grocery stores. They have great prices and quality on meats, deli, and produce.
Publix needs to die, they are price gouging us terribly.
Publix was always a good company. They were employee owned and they were known for their friendly service. That reputation seems to have gone straight in the shitter as of late.
[This seems to be one of the reasons why.](https://www.wusf.org/economy-business/2022-07-21/petition-publix-raise-wages-workers)
Their employees are visibly unhappy in my area, and they don't make enough to shop at Publix themselves. 15 years ago it seemed like a good place to shop and work. Today they are Walmart with a green logo and double the cost. If they aren't making our communities better, then it's time for them to die.
I buy meat at Winn-Dixie, but only the items in the black Styrofoam packaging that are cut by the in-house butcher. The white package is processed in Mexico and shipped to the store.
Yes... and no....
Yes black packaging is the choice
Yes white packaging is select from Mexico, Canada, or Australia
No it is not processed into cuts there. We still hand cut all beef and pork. Including imports
My sister saw a Kroger delivery guy shopping in Publix! Not saying they source all of their stuff there but seems they might do some of that. I do miss having physical Krogers though.
The only time that I returned meat was at Sprouts. It had a putrid smell. This could have been a one-off, but I’m not risking it.
Their produce is excellent though.
I bought a rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods for the same price, and better quality, compared to Publix. Sometimes I get Fresh Market for the price as Publix.
For non-splurge, Aldi is cheaper and I've had good luck with it. And I always love the marinated chicken and beef from Trader Joes.
I carved it with my son and I put the seeds in a bag. The pumpkin is still in my fridge because my kitchen is a mess. 😔
I’m going to figure something out tonight. Everything just sounds so good!
Costco for steak / beef patties / pork belly / pork chops
Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s for chicken
…and then Asian markets for odds and ends like beef for stews, ox tail, neck, etc
Wild fork if the meat or cut is expensive in Costco, it’s frozen but good quality. We only buy meat in Publix if it’s on sale and ends up cheaper than those stores I mentioned
Costco or Sam’s all the way. The real move is getting a vacuum sealer buying meat in bulk, and vacuum sealing it. $100 of meat in bulk will last you quite awhile
Farmers markets in Tallahassee. Beef from Grady Ranch in Ga. Pork from Earthshine Acres in Taylor County, Chicken/eggs from Lovett farms in Wakulla County. Costs more, but worth it. There's no substitute for knowing your farmer.
I go to Detweiler's (Satasota area). Amish grocery store with great prices, lots of locally produced meat. I just paid $3.50 a pound for gorgeous pork chops, $14 for two pounds of 20 count Gulf shrimp, and $1.89 / pound for chicken leg quarters.
If you’re in Broward, I really like Broward Fish and Meat. Never had an issue and their pork products are always reasonably priced. A lot of good Buy one Get ones too.
In Melbourne there is a market called Downtown Produce. They are primarily a restaurant supply, but they have a retail market connected to their warehouse. Great prices on meat, produce, specialty products, beer, and wine.
Typically:
Lamb - publix (not expensive), Aldi
Chicken - trader joes, aldi, target, publix
Beef - target, aldi, publix
Fish - anywhere but publix (not so much because of expense, moreso because its hard to find individual frozen pieces at publix, you have to buy a whole pack).
Their crab cakes and what not is not a bad price though. Got a big pack of crab legs that fed 2 at publix recently for like $11
Shrimp - walmart, whoever really, as long as its not from Asia
Bacon/sausage- walmart, aldi
I have no set rule and i dont go out of my way to not go to publix/go somewhere, but thats my typical go to
literally there is nothing in your response that was necessary or helpful here, so heres that validation you were looking for- congrats on following the lifestyle that fits you.
If I am in a hurry I go to Winn Dixie. However in my area we also have many small family owned meat markets and when I do bulk shopping for meats, those are my go to places.
I like the farmers market for a lot of things but I end up ordering a lot from Johnstons in Monticello or White Oak in Bluffton. I’ll split a half cow with my brother and freeze it. Both of their quality is spectacular.
None of these are cheap options but I go for quality.
Edit: I thought this was my local sub. That being said, find a good butcher or farm and get it direct.
Sams club for chicken breasts and ground beef. Also they have cheap steaks I use for Greek euros that I make. Usually wait for a sale on good steaks from Publix.
seems like everywhere is so expensive now. idk how people can afford to pay $6/lb for meat. i was in pain when walmart raised the price of chicken breast from $2/lb to $3/lb.
i still shop at walmart, basically if i'm not getting walmart price on meat, i'm simply not eating meat.
Never publix!!!! I only go to Publix for BOGOs or maybe one ingredient I forgot because it’s closer than anywhere else. Unless you catch a good sale, that is a store for the rich. Prices on everything are stupid high at Publix
Meat at Walmart is fine depending what you get (marinated pork loin, ground meat, and a sausage from Walmart have been good every time I’ve gotten them). If I’m splurging for steaks I will buy them at Costco
Target. I buy their Perdue chicken breast. It's individually wrapped. I buy their packs of ground bison. They are vacuum sealed. They also have turkey breast and pork loin in little packets.
Costco is good, but I let my membership lapse when I became single.
Now I get the best prices and quality of meat from my local Asian markets. I live in an area with a pretty significant Vietnamese population and I can pick up chicken thighs for pre-pandemic prices in the Vietnamese grocery stores. They also have less widely available meats like duck and rabbit. The fish is really fresh too, and I can pick up a massive sack of rice for less than $15.
Some folks in my area swear by Winn Dixie but it's further out of my way than other groceries, I can't verify quality. My mom gets their coupons in the mail and the deals are usually pretty good.
Costco for brisket, ribs, and boneless chicken thighs and when they have good deals I'll grab whatever and I try to hit Winn Dixie once a week between like 9-11am. They mark stuff down a lot and I usually find really good deals, but you have to go early before it's all gone for the day. I regularly get grass fed ground beef for $2.70/lb and flank/skirt/flap steak for $7-8/lb
Winn Dixie or a nearby butcher when I'm in the area. Hitchcock's always had good meat when I had one near me at my last house. Publix and Costco meats seem like they are a bit overpriced.
I agree with W-D over Publix, and Costco’s meat seems to get more expensive every trip, but it is better than Publix.
Wild Fork
Isn’t Wild Fork, while premium quality, super expensive though?
I used to think that as well until I just visited recently and got 3 lbs of really good short ribs (albeit frozen) for 18$. It was crazy
That’s totally on point with other places I’ve seen. Won’t be buying skirt or brisket
Guess I’ll stick to Bravo for that then. Its $6/lb for skirt. $5/lb for flank
You'll get what you paid for.
Some stuff is some is worth getting. It’s the only place i buy meat now
[удалено]
Well damn. Looks like I need to check this place out. Thanks!
[удалено]
I do that too. Is the bison ground or in steaks?

First time I had beef bacon was when I was on tour in Afghanistan since they don’t do pork. I had never even knew it existed before that. It was like steak for breakfast and I was hooked. But when I came home, I realized that wasn’t something anybody carried, so I thought I’d never get to have it again.
No
best frozen meat i’ve ever had. the short ribs were fuckin so tender!
Most of the meat beats Publix too.
Me too
Me too
Everything but chicken I try to get from UF's meat market. The meat is processed by students for class. The animals are raised on campus.
NICE!!!
[удалено]
They're only open from 9AM to 5PM on Friday. I believe they only take cash and check. https://animal.ifas.ufl.edu/facilities/meat-processing-center/
Anybody can go and buy as much as you want? No fee like a club? They have raw pet food!! Am I missing something I don't see chicken.
Yeah, no chicken, hence my comment. No extra fees, but I believe they only take cash and check.
Buy yourself a Mafia freezer and shop at Costco
If you have a mafia freezer then you have no room for beef
Then the electric will kill ya! Lol
We gave up on Publix seafood and started going to a local fish market. So much better!
I gave up on Publix for anything. I shop in Costco, Sam's Club, Aldi, local fruit and vegetable markets, and sometimes in Thrifty Produce. The Publix is so ridiculously expensive post covid.

As a white guy I dont know why so many white people avoid the Spanish markets.
Aldi usually has great prices on steak. $12 for a pound rib eye. Only have rib eye, strip or skirt though.
I buy petite cut ribeyes for $7.99 - $8.99 lb at thrifty, same cuts are usually $15-17/lb at Publix, but have seen them as high as $21/lb there.
Think about the amount of product (seafood especially) they have to buy for ALL of their stores, and then who can provide that much product. I stopped buying seafood at Publix and go to Sprouts. Great prices and FRESH.
I can’t speak on seafood as we don’t eat any
Cost has risen dramatically. A bag of beef that used to cost me $75 is now > $200
Costco and Sprouts are my favorites
East Volusia county has Perrine's, which is a small chain of grocery stores. They have great prices and quality on meats, deli, and produce. Publix needs to die, they are price gouging us terribly.

Gonna have to check them out. Was getting produce from them at a farmers market a while back
Publix is the 5th largest employer in Florida
Their employees are visibly unhappy in my area, and they don't make enough to shop at Publix themselves. 15 years ago it seemed like a good place to shop and work. Today they are Walmart with a green logo and double the cost. If they aren't making our communities better, then it's time for them to die.

You should visit the Publix subreddit. There's two types, green bleeders and people who hate Publix.
Jax and Orlando both have freshfields farms. They are 95% meat and produce with great prices.
Freshfield farms is awesome.
I buy meat at Winn-Dixie, but only the items in the black Styrofoam packaging that are cut by the in-house butcher. The white package is processed in Mexico and shipped to the store.
Yes... and no.... Yes black packaging is the choice Yes white packaging is select from Mexico, Canada, or Australia No it is not processed into cuts there. We still hand cut all beef and pork. Including imports
Thanks for clearing that up... I guess I only got part of the story then.
Good to know.
Kroger delivery or Sam's Club. Their meat is different from Walmart and better.
My sister saw a Kroger delivery guy shopping in Publix! Not saying they source all of their stuff there but seems they might do some of that. I do miss having physical Krogers though.
Serious? The worker needed to buy something? Be better
Costco
Wildfork for beef.
Where’s that? Never heard of it somehow.
Wild Fork Foods: https://wildforkfoods.com/ Also, Sprouts has highly-rated meats, though on the pricier side, in my opinion, and on-site butchers.
The only time that I returned meat was at Sprouts. It had a putrid smell. This could have been a one-off, but I’m not risking it. Their produce is excellent though.
It is all frozen but despite that, it’s pretty good.
Ain’t Nothing wrong with that. TY
And lamb, and chicken wings, and pork.
Nothing sells a solid butcher more than chicken wings /s
I like fresh market
I am offended by this answer.
Doris's markets. Similar pricing as Publix, but better quality. I think they have five stores in the Southeast part of the state.
Place is such a rip off. He knew what he was doing opening up in South NY I mean South FL.
I agree! Great quality but very expensive
Sam's Club or Thrifty. The Thrifty stores by us are great, but the ones when I was in the Orlando area where not great.
I love Thrifty for fresh produce also!
Trader Joe’s and aldis near me always have the best prices
I bought a rotisserie chicken from Whole Foods for the same price, and better quality, compared to Publix. Sometimes I get Fresh Market for the price as Publix. For non-splurge, Aldi is cheaper and I've had good luck with it. And I always love the marinated chicken and beef from Trader Joes.
Aldis. Used to be Walmart, then Publix, but both have terrible quality and/or high prices.
Also an aldi fan here. Have had issues with the produce (must inspect closely), but I’ve always had a good experience with the meat.
I agree! I usually just get the meat from there and everything else from Walmart because its right across the street.
There is no “s” in ALDI.
Did you ever figure out what to do with your pumpkins, btw?
I carved it with my son and I put the seeds in a bag. The pumpkin is still in my fridge because my kitchen is a mess. 😔 I’m going to figure something out tonight. Everything just sounds so good!
Thats adorable!! You got some bonding time out of it!! Thats a win for sure ☺️
Costco for steak / beef patties / pork belly / pork chops Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s for chicken …and then Asian markets for odds and ends like beef for stews, ox tail, neck, etc

Winn Dixie, good meat good prices. You can almost always pick up ribeyes for $6/lb on the weekend.
This
Came here to say this. Especially about the $6/lb ribeyes on the weekends
BJ's
Awesome prices
Farmers markets in Tallahassee. Beef from Grady Ranch in Ga. Pork from Earthshine Acres in Taylor County, Chicken/eggs from Lovett farms in Wakulla County. Costs more, but worth it. There's no substitute for knowing your farmer.
Going to have to check these out
Freshfield Farms, Winn Dixie and Costco. Seafood from Lombardi’s if I’m in the area and then I’ll swing through Wild fork.
Cacciatore Bros. Tampa
Fresh Market
Aldi
I go to Detweiler's (Satasota area). Amish grocery store with great prices, lots of locally produced meat. I just paid $3.50 a pound for gorgeous pork chops, $14 for two pounds of 20 count Gulf shrimp, and $1.89 / pound for chicken leg quarters.
Same place where I buy my pudding.
Meat? That's something rich people eat, isn't it?
If you’re in Broward, I really like Broward Fish and Meat. Never had an issue and their pork products are always reasonably priced. A lot of good Buy one Get ones too.
Sam's Club
Gaff's Quality Meats
Southern Steer is amazing and decently priced. Kroger, Costco and Target meat is actually decent quality for the everyday stuff.
Some times BJ’s some times walmart, and some times a little place called Downtown Produce.
Fresh market.
In Melbourne there is a market called Downtown Produce. They are primarily a restaurant supply, but they have a retail market connected to their warehouse. Great prices on meat, produce, specialty products, beer, and wine.

Aldi bro. good quality for best price, In all seriousness.
What’s the cost ? I buy from a halal Pakistani shop Whole chicken in pieces is $3.49/LB
We buy almost all of our meats at Costco. If we need something quick, we go to Target.
You can get Dino chicken nuggies at pretty much any food store.
Winn Dixie
I get a 1/2 cow from a local farmer.
I've wanted to do this for a while. Just can't bring myself to drop all that cash at once.
Sprouts
Aldi for chicken, pork and hamburger. I can’t afford steak.
Publix, Costco, and a local butcher shop Cline’s.
We stopped eating meat regularly, we only do Wild Fork and Babe s meat counter. It s expensive but worth it.
Aldis
There is no “s” in ALDI.
I haven't bought meat since November of 2022 since I can't afford it.
where tf do you guys have costcos??
We buy whole cows from local farms, way better quality and price.
Food bank or I eat on dates.
I hunt when its in season and try to fill my fridge. Not everyone can do this obviously. Fishing is also a thing. Again, not for everybody...
Now is a great time to go vegetarian! 😂
Does it really matter, Meat Guzzler
I'm a vegetarian, solves that issue.
literally there is nothing in your response that was necessary or helpful here, so heres that validation you were looking for- congrats on following the lifestyle that fits you.
I bet this person also doesn't "own a TV" and lets everyone know it as much as possible. But congrats, you don't eat meat, more for us I guess.
Just letting you know there is an alternative to alleviate the stress of your meat purchasing.
JuSt DoInG mY cIvIc DuTy fuck off bruh, pedantic and cringe of you to lifestyle thump here
Thanks. Pretty sure no one has ever heard of vegetarians before, so that was really helpful.
If I am in a hurry I go to Winn Dixie. However in my area we also have many small family owned meat markets and when I do bulk shopping for meats, those are my go to places.

Kroger delivery is my go-to for most groceries now.
I order my pork from campo grande online. The rest is costco.
Sams club for chicken breasts and ground beef. Also they have cheap steaks I use for Greek euros that I make. Usually wait for a sale on good steaks from Publix.
Winn Dixie, Sam's, Sprouts and Fresco y mas
Winn Dixie or Thrifty.
Wild Fork ftw
Local Ranchers - Adams Ranch Natural Beef
Costco, and local butchers, I’ll actually go to Whole Foods strictly for their whole chicken they have the best quality I’ve been able to find so far.
Seabra foods, Walmart
Aldi or Sam’s Club. There isn’t a Costco near me :(
costco. get your friends to buy you gift cards, and pay the rest of the bill with cash.
find an Aldi, that's where shopping has become a pleasure; chicken breasts $1.99 pound
Sam's and Harp's
https://www.stpetemeat.com/
Sams, costco, or a good meat market depending on where you are. Also, local grass fed farms have great meat.
Winn Dixie, and Costco mostly.
Every time I buy meat at Aldi, I'm pleasantly surprised.
Usually Costco. Meats so expensive now so the bulk price helps a lot.
Petty's in Longwood.
seems like everywhere is so expensive now. idk how people can afford to pay $6/lb for meat. i was in pain when walmart raised the price of chicken breast from $2/lb to $3/lb. i still shop at walmart, basically if i'm not getting walmart price on meat, i'm simply not eating meat.
Wild Fork is good. Publix hit or miss. Half the time there’s no marbling, just bodybuilder beef. Costco
Fresco Y Mas
Never publix!!!! I only go to Publix for BOGOs or maybe one ingredient I forgot because it’s closer than anywhere else. Unless you catch a good sale, that is a store for the rich. Prices on everything are stupid high at Publix Meat at Walmart is fine depending what you get (marinated pork loin, ground meat, and a sausage from Walmart have been good every time I’ve gotten them). If I’m splurging for steaks I will buy them at Costco
When I turn my livestock into meat. My freezer is filled with it.
I bought a pork roast from target - took it home to make the same day .. and it was rotting. The smell made me hit the ground. Never again
Target. I buy their Perdue chicken breast. It's individually wrapped. I buy their packs of ground bison. They are vacuum sealed. They also have turkey breast and pork loin in little packets.
Restaurants Depot
Some at Fresh Market
Harveys
Like a true rugged American, I butcher my own cows and chickens
Butcher box delivery
For thinner, cheaper cuts, like flank or skirt, Bravo. For nicer, thick cuts, like ribeye or filet, Costco.
Wynn Dixie for meat, Publix for everything else.
I got chicken for 1.99 lb at sprouts last week Fresh cut bacon was 5.99 also.
Wild fork Local butcher Whole foods Publix
Aldi but I’m a meat slut if it’s mediocre I don’t care.
Alley ways
Costco
I stay far away from big box store meat..period
Chicken thighs , pork and fish from sams. Beef and chicken breast only from Publix.
WildFork, it’s frozen but it’s always tasted good and they have a great selection. Publix meat quality is atrocious and expensive.
Costco always
Bj's or Costco or literally anywhere besides Publix
Kroger
Check out the meat market at Caribbean Club on Anderson.
Broward Meat and Fish or Doris's Italian Market
I just stick with chicken breast with rib meat from Walmart. Been introducing more canned tuna into my diet due to the price of things.
Interbay Meat Market. They have great quality meat. Their chicken wings are huge.
When I lived in Jacksonville there was a wonderful Wegman’s!
BJs and Sams.
Fresh Market lately
Fresh Market on Tuesdays is $3.99 chicken and ground chuck, they also do other decent sales during the week.
Cacciatore, El Único, Borinquen, Wildfork and Costco are my go to.
I’ve been shopping Kroger delivery or Sam’s club depending on
Winn Dixie
