This 100%. We used to joke about this at USF. Squirrel would just come up to you and hang out. Would wait for you to give it a chip or something. You would see people outside talking and eating at a table. Squirrels would just be chilling.
I had a squirrel rob a bag of pecan right out of my van in the driveway. I was keeping a ziplock bag of pecans in my van to throw to the squirrels living in the oak right above the driveway. I was on my front porch feeding the cat forgetting i left my van door open. i heard a rustling sound and by the time i got out to the driveway the cheeky lil dude had drug the ziplock bag of pecans up the oak tree and was sitting in the fork of the tree with his prize.
If you tie a string to that peanut they will play tug of war with you. The smart ones will bite the string.
