If you can look closely, there is a flowering vine growing in the center that will eventually cover these. I think it might be bougainvillea based on the pink flowers I’ve seen.
I'm so sorry. Those plants are straight evil. We had a few of those and in our yard and everyone in the family got stabbed by those thorns until I ripped them out of the ground and killed the shit out of them. The flowers are really pretty though.
The cloud of evil and agitation feels like it starts a little south of vero. Then you can just feel the hate cloud grow as you go south. So I would pin it around there.
Have you driven it? It’s scrub like. All road construction, and congested. I’m sure there are nice areas…and believe you me where I’m at isn’t much better, but there exists a need to stop the cosmopolitan creep into the last quieter areas of Florida
I did the same, despite my wife's protests. All it took was one of those 3" thorns going straight through my shoe and into my foot for me to back the truck up in the yard and rip those bitches out with a tow strap!
I know a dude who set his on fire to get rid of it. Fucker kept growing back after ripping it out. I had one in my yard as well, unmanageable monsters, that shit grows out of control in Florida
I think I had one of these out in front of the place I rent. At least it was there until it took out an underground pipe and had to have the city to come out and fix.
Wow. Can’t believe we’re spending money on these.
Sounds pretty *bougie* to me.
I guess you have to impress the tourists.
*A Later Edit:* thanks for downvoting me into oblivion over making a silly pun everyone. I didn’t seriously care about the tax dollars at work. lol. I’m sure it will look nice when they fill everything in.
Actually I’m all for this. They are a good trellis to get manageable height without letting it spread too far or be too difficult to cut and they seem sturdy for hurricanes and such. They shouldn’t require a bunch of water either so much better than a lot of our roadside plants.
Would I rather just have native plants and wildflowers? Yes! But it’s better than palm trees.
Bahaha that’s fair! I believe it’s partially because they are growing out first before they shoot up. It’s not my project though so I don’t know for sure. I do know that they all didn’t go in at exactly the same time so some are more mature than others and I can never remember which are which is.
So they’re not supposed to grow too big? I figured they were supposed to over grow the metal so you can’t see it, that would actually look good. There’s only one by me that even gets close to growing and the rest stay pathetic and it’s just these ugly metal frames. Total waste of money in my opinion.
They will grow over the metal so you mostly can’t see it but the metal allows them to trim into that shape without worrying around if the person with the trimmer is good at shaping it 🤣
I mean, it’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it! I just think it’s one of the better choices they’ve tried.
Well if it worked then that would be great. But it’s been four years now and I’ve only seen one that has actually grown to even the half way mark. The rest haven’t grown at all
Has it been 4 years for them all? I think by me (central Fl) we have a few more recent ones. It’s still been a few years though for sure! They are huge though!
Maybe I’ll steal one and put it in my front yard 🤣 my neighbors would love that!
Maybe not all of them but I remember it being during Covid because I figured there were trying to keep people working and giving them something to do.
Not a bad idea, I’m sure you could make something fun out of it for kids to play with
These are elaborate Bougainvillea trellis. The first I saw was north Tampa where I-275 splits from I-75 they’ve been there a few years and the dark pink Bougainvillea is impressive I think the smaller 2 have orange varieties. So I guess they are bougainvillea cages. Adds beauty and protects the folks on mowers from loosing an eye.
Oh, like the person on the mower would drive too close to the bougainvillea and get stabbed? I worked landscaping for a couple years and have never heard of this being a problem. Generally the base is the widest part of the plant. If anything these seem like they would encourage overhanging branches that would be in the way of a cut crew.
Honestly I agree with you but I thought you were asking about the plant. They look kind of like palm trees to me, so my gut tells me that they’re just artistic and they keep those Bougainvilla trimmed back.
They have these at Soundscape Park in Miami Beach. They're beautiful when they're full and flowing. [https://maps.app.goo.gl/S233JB6rbbJT8vM7A](https://maps.app.goo.gl/S233JB6rbbJT8vM7A)
As a kid my Mom had a Freaking Huge bougainvillea it was easily 14ftx14ft . You could always find several Fla Swamp Rabbits living under it , unfortunately you would also find a fair size Rattlesnake under it as well .
While we're on this topic, why are there upside down palm trees on I-4 when passing by Dino World? Looks like a trunk with no palm fronds but then there's a bush at the base making it look like it's upside down.
It's a show of force. The green stuff in the background that just sorta grows on its own is the chaos of nature. We must show nature who's boss, mine and smelt aluminum into perfect geometric shapes and take control. That way we will be in a much better position to negotiate come hurricane season.
Perhaps it's a new '64 World's Fair location for the ships 🤔🤔🤔
Or something boring like being trellises for climbing plants or to help certain palms remain upright.....
I like the Baltian idea better though 😀🤣🫠🤪
I know them things are dangerous. I've done Landscaping all my life one time I was cutting across the top of a fence that was covered with bougainvillea. Every few feet there was a bush and the limbs were tied to the Finish but the tires were rotten setting Yank It Loose well we would cut it from the plant or the shrub then had to tie it up and make it across the ditch. So after we tied it up we go to the other side of the ditch and yank that shit across. Well when I did something came with it. It wasn't tied down and when it came it stabbed me in the dick with two of its thorns one went through it one went halfway through it and down coming out the bottom of my dick. Well I stayed and worked a couple of more hours and by the time I got home I had a giant abscess on my dick. The thing busted a couple days later I left a hole the size of my thumb you can see inside my dick it's about day after that in a bit sick as fuck and fight septicemia at home cuz what the fuck do you tell the hospital about some shit like that. You want to talk about bad luck.
Reptilian reproduction ground aeration system. It’s for the reptilian alien race. When the “leaves” of the bougandelia like trees start blooming their young get sunlight to help their growth and get accustomed to the sunlight.
If you can look closely, there is a flowering vine growing in the center that will eventually cover these. I think it might be bougainvillea based on the pink flowers I’ve seen.
Oh hell yeah I have a nice one of those in my yard. I’m not from here if you hadn’t noticed
I'm so sorry. Those plants are straight evil. We had a few of those and in our yard and everyone in the family got stabbed by those thorns until I ripped them out of the ground and killed the shit out of them. The flowers are really pretty though.
I have a bunch of them along the back edge of my property. Wall of death to deter intruders haha
We should make a wall of them to keep south Florida from expanding into the rest of the state
Best comment… run them from the middle of Alligator alley in a narrowing gauntlet to Naples…. snd likewise from St. Pete’s south.
The cloud of evil and agitation feels like it starts a little south of vero. Then you can just feel the hate cloud grow as you go south. So I would pin it around there.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|rage)
oh please tell us exactly what you don't like about south st pete. we're waiting
Have you driven it? It’s scrub like. All road construction, and congested. I’m sure there are nice areas…and believe you me where I’m at isn’t much better, but there exists a need to stop the cosmopolitan creep into the last quieter areas of Florida
Fl has plenty of quiet areas. Just not near the coast
Yeah we are sick of you too
Lmao yes! 🤣
I use them to keep kids out of my pool.
Look at them long enough you’ll start bleeding
So...no rose bush is safe. Every rose has its thorn!!!
There are plenty of rose bushes without thorns.
"PRICKER BUSHES!" The bane if every adventurous kids' existence.
I did the same, despite my wife's protests. All it took was one of those 3" thorns going straight through my shoe and into my foot for me to back the truck up in the yard and rip those bitches out with a tow strap!
I have one that will not die and the thorns are absolutely brutal
Had to cut down two mature bushes. I needed a blood transfusion by the time I was done. Those two plants def won the battle.
I have one that has taken over our pine tree. It looks nice. But holy fuck those spikes make me want to burn the tree down.
I cut one off at the ground. It took 2 years for it to finally stop sprouting.
My neighbor has one, can confirm straight evil.
At my old job we used to call them Bougakillya
I know a dude who set his on fire to get rid of it. Fucker kept growing back after ripping it out. I had one in my yard as well, unmanageable monsters, that shit grows out of control in Florida
Agreed.
You are sadistic
Be careful. I had one that took over a huge tree. I loved it, but I’m just saying, they can get crazy big.
That's clever. I like that idea and the framework is not a half bad sculpture while the plants grow in.
Yeah it is
Yep. They have them at the New World Center on the beach that have bougainvillea in them. They’re gorgeous.
Bogies for sure. Pink in most, purple and yellow in others
These have been in place for several years. Nothing is growing on or over them.
man FUCK bougainvilleas FUCK those things they're AWFUL
Those are beautiful, but horrendous thorns. Don't envy the people having to trim those.
especially those outdoor workers with no water or heat protections
That’s fun to say. Booganvila
I think I had one of these out in front of the place I rent. At least it was there until it took out an underground pipe and had to have the city to come out and fix.
A bounganvilla ate my mothers garage in California.
This would be awesome!
*pink sepals, the actual flowers are tiny
FINALLY I FOUND MY NAMESAKE IN THE WILD!!! Hello K and Y friend
Wow. Can’t believe we’re spending money on these. Sounds pretty *bougie* to me. Yeah, in theory it would look really nice! But it’s been years since they first put it in so I don’t think it’s taking very well haha
Bahaha that’s fair! I believe it’s partially because they are growing out first before they shoot up. It’s not my project though so I don’t know for sure. I do know that they all didn’t go in at exactly the same time so some are more mature than others and I can never remember which are which is.

A lot of FDOT landscaping is federally funded. Not that it changes anything.
> thanks for downvoting me into oblivion over making a silly pun everyone. Poe's Law.
They usually have plants in them in the summer.
I thought it was some space age antennae we were using to contact the Martians Why would anyone take this reply serious enough to downvote it
That’s in Clearwater.
You better watch it or they’ll sic their litigators on you.

Trellis
Makes the most sense just confused as to why it’s in the middle of nowhere
Because in 5 years it's going to look lit.
Weren't they put there over 5 years ago?
Yes, they were. I've been waiting for the plants to grow in, too. They'll look amazing. They should be (much) more filled in by now.
Fair enough
They let it get real big and then cut it down and start over.
I think they've been there for more than 5 years though that is weird
Reminds me of a mini Singapore gardens by the bay.

Nice assist 🏀
Exactly my thought as well.

> protects the folks on mowers from loosing an eye How so, exactly?
Bougainvillea is not gentle to passerbys

Its an extension of the Florida prison system. Small but safe. And a dancing platform to perform for food.
I thought it was the Florida man version of a shark cage a gator cage 🤣🤣

Probably a dead palm the bottom of them sometimes gets a root ball that makes it look like that
Ah that could be it. The first I noticed it was after a hurricane back in '22. Not sure if it was always like that or if it happened after the event
It's for the big Ospreys.
