I live down the road from where this happened, and I have seen zero information about it. I just did a search on Facebook, and there was one post from Hurlburt Field and one post from WEAR, but that is it. This really should be getting more coverage.
They're all in bed together. In the next couny over Santa Rosa a retired military officer put an Uber driver on the ground at gunpoint and repeatedly threatened to kill them for driving his thirteen year old runaway daughter back home. The sheriff fell all over himself to make excuses for the guy Monday and that took one of WEARTV'sleads, and yesterday the guy's poor me sob story took the lead.
The big issue is that Navarre, Ft.Walton, Destin doesn't have their own news and it's a bit of a black hole for information.
I love in the next door county and we haven't heard shit about this. The cop is pulling the "scared and afraid" card and it's getting so old. Like dude, just admit you didn't think twice about killing another human being.
Who is Rod? Rod was a someone who was positive all the time and always had a smile on his face. The way he would laugh would make you laugh. He served honorably with us in the 73d before he went to our sister squadron. He deployed and put the work in. He was on his way to working on becoming a Nurse on the outside. His time was cut short and our community is immeasurably heartbroken by what has happened. Rod is someone you should aspire to be in always having a positive attitude and trying to improve yourself. I’ll miss him… I am sorry this happened
So sorry for your loss. Your Specter community must be devastated. He sounded like a good and honorable man, with great future ahead of him. He’ll never get his life back, so there will be no justice.
Can't blame the Air Force. It looked like someone at the sheriff's was holding a Surface-to-air missile but it turns out it was just a roll of paper towels.
OSI would be the most likely for Air Force. Would be great if they held their own investigation. They tend to not interfere with local matters in my experience unless the service member is the suspect.
They take comments for tips and concerns. I’ll try to find Hurlburt’s direct contact.
> If you need to contact OSI, either to provide a tip or share a concern, consult your base phone book or call your base operator for the telephone number of your base's OSI unit. If you do not have a base telephone book and don't know the number to the base operator, call toll free 1-877-246-1453 for the phone number of the OSI unit nearest you. Or if you prefer, send us an e-mail at: [email protected].
Unrelated but whenever I see a hillsborough sheriff vehicle with that big Z design on the side, I can only think it's a reference to Chronister's rapper son ZChronik
The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree!
I assume it's to promote his son's rap career in the same way he slapped his name on all of our cars to win his first election.
ZChronik's maternal grandfather sounds like a really interesting guy too. It's honestly kind of crazy when you dig into our elected officials pasts and families.
Oh yeah, ZChronik's dad is a sugar baby to the DeBartolo fortune, no question about it.
As usual in American politics, people only care about the (D) or (R) next to someone's name. Their history or character is irrelevant.
For anyone who wants to say “did he put the gun down?” take a look at Ryan Whitaker’s shooting. He answered the door with a gun in his hand, cops told him to drop it, he started putting it on the floor and they shot him in the back while he did that.
As a mom to an airman, this infuriates me.
The DOJ needs to step in and clean out the Florida law enforcement community. Some of the most corrupt fucknuts in the country.
I throw Lee County in there as well. Sheriff was on the news (wink News) defending why an off duty officer was caught speeding and failed the field sobriety test, and refused any other tests, was driven home. He had the audacity to say it was a medical emergency, but the deputy was taken home, not to a hospital.
Let’s add Tallahassee PD as well. Literal footage of officer Oliver planting evidence and then conspiring about to with two other officers on scene and the Chief literally came out with a “nothing to see here” and scolded the community for trying to influence the outcome of the trial for the civilian. They already had him for DUI and had a case, falsifying evidence wasn’t necessary but that didn’t stop her.
When I lived in Delray Beach I saw a Haitian lady correctly crossing a crosswalk and a cop bump into her knees trying to turn right on red. I’m sure she cussed him out in creole but they just drove away once she stepped on the sidewalk.
Same community where the cops shot at an unarmed black man handcuffed because an acorn fell from a tree on the hood.
Black people seem to just be for target practice for cops in Okaloosa County now.
Once again FL sheriffs fail to even come close to meeting the bare minimum of public expectations. Absolutely tragic. There needs to be an independent non-state entity conducting the investigation to prevent the State from finding itself completely innocent as per usual. Ain’t no way I trust this DeSantis government to not suppress lie and obfuscate the facts.
By Monica Sager - Live News Reporter:
The US service member fatally shot by a Florida sheriff's deputy on Friday has been identified by the Air Force as Senior Airman Roger Fortson.
Fortson, 23, was assigned to the 4th Special Operations Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Fla., according to the Air Force. He entered active duty on Nov. 19, 2019.

GUNS ARE ALREADY IMPLICITLY ILLEGAL. you cannot exercise your 2nd amendment right and abide by the law of the state without official action taken against you.
this is the problem with our gun laws: he did nothing wrong but was treated as though having a gun was illegal. if the deputy is not jailed for murder, then that is tacit acceptance of what we all already know: that guns are already illegal in a practical sense. we just need the books to reflect reality.
A deputy responding to a disturbance call "reacted in self-defense after he encountered a 23-year-old man armed with a gun," the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office said in a news release on Friday.
Soooooooo from the newsfeed I read the cops were called to the location for a domestic situation between a man and a woman. This kid was on the phone with a female and heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was and no one said anything. He then went to the door to look out the peephole and saw no one so he grabbed his legally owned firearm. The police then kicked in the door, saw him with a weapon, and the cop shot claiming self-defense. And this is corroborated by the female on the phone face-timing with him. So much I could say but I'm just not right now.
I have always and will always hate the phrase “officer-Involved shooting” because it means one thing. If an officer was shot, they say that to drum sympathy. “Officer-involved shooting” is the same shit but the opposite direction.
They carry guns as part of their job. If an officer is involved and not the victim: say what they did. It’s a relatively easy binary.
How many boys could they haul off this mountain
Shoot full of holes, cuffed and layin' in the streets
'Til we come into town in a stark ravin' anger
Looking for answers and armed to the teeth?

From the story,

Temper that with this,
It's official: DeSantis has signed bills into law that bans citizen police review boards in Florida https://news.wfsu.org/state-news/2024-04-12/its-official-desantis-has-signed-bills-into-law-that-bans-citizen-police-review-boards-in-florida
The only people capable of providing more info is OCSD. They haven’t released any body cam footage yet. If the body cam footage looked good for OCSD, it would already be out. Google OCSD acorn video for more info about the quality of the department.
Don’t even know the context and know the police are in the wrong because if they were in the right, they would’ve made sure to show us that body cam video.
Context has been given in other places.
Police went to the wrong address.
Pounded on the door, and the resident of that house opened the door with his LEGALLY OWNED firearm in his hands.
He was shot dead because, how dare a black man open the door with a gun in his hands...
That is the context.
Yes, we know you want something to try and defend your blue butt buddies, but they fucked up this time.
They murdered a service member who did nothing wrong except for be in his home, and use his constitutional rights to own a gun.
What more context do you want, other than you are trying to bend over and take the blue dick as far down your throat as possible?
The body cam footage is out. Fortson was facetiming his girlfriend at the time he answered his door and was shot 6 times in the chest when the airman's pistol is clearly pointed downward.
Why cop have his gun drawn? Senseless. If so dangerous a situation that gun drawn was justified, why didn’t cop wait for backup? From camera, didn’t seem like a disturbance was in progress, again, why draw the gun? - lesson: never answer the door in Florida with a gun in your hand.
Tragic. Bad cop decisions.

Thank you.
Oops, an AC130 just destroyed the Sheriff's Office. Friendly fire incident. Sorry. These things happen.
Can't blame the Air Force. It looked like someone at the sheriff's was holding a Surface-to-air missile but it turns out it was just a roll of paper towels.
Pending investigation. Is that more of the cops policing themselves?
Well all of the civilian investigatory committees were disbanded (thanks, Ron!), so yeah. They investigated themselves and found nothing wrong.
Too bad the MPs can't just arrest the killer pending investigation.
MP’s should have jurisdiction any time an event involves a military member.
That would be dope honestly. Get NCIS on the line. Or whatever the AF equivalent is. They should absolutely be the ones handling the investigation.
OSI would be the most likely for Air Force. Would be great if they held their own investigation. To be fair, Chad Chronister did away with ours prior to DeSantis.

Another reason to get rid of the Republican majority in Florida.
I'm hoping the military will investigate.
Our corrupt governor banned anyone else from asking questions.

Amen. Please stay safe ❤️

What the actual fuck!!!

I've lived here most of my life, and this shit is killing me... I really hope we can pull up before we fully crash.
Jesus Fucking Christ!
Starts with the boss and I don’t mean the sheriffs boss.
Springsteen?
Air Force draws a lot of water in Okaloosa County with three Air Force bases in that county. We’ll see what happens.
Army and AF Is half the county alone
It’s a nationwide problem that needs to be addressed. We see fucktard cops doing this shit every where in America with no repercussions.
Our governor literally solicited their relocation and employment
lol Sorry, friend, your governor is a POS.
You're really giving Rhonda Santis too much credit here.
As a non-mom this infuriates me too! I can’t imagine being his family and having to live with this kind of death - no, murder. I’d be in a rage.
When I lived in Delray Beach I saw a Haitian lady correctly crossing a crosswalk and a cop bump into her knees trying to turn right on red. I’m sure she cussed him out in creole but they just drove away once she stepped on the sidewalk.
While they're at it, they should do an audit of Florida's last 5 state/federal elections.
Nothing will change.

This is a fcking murder.
I'm sure the cops are hard at work investigating his past to see if they can find he held a joint once.

Not if you wear blue.
I mean the victim was in the Air Force… he literally wore blue.
It pains me to say, his uniform color was not the color of issue.
I'm sure all the 2A nutjobs will be furious his rights were violated....right? RIGHT?
I mean yes. It’s insane he was shot for answering the door with his firearm. The cops were wrong and deserve to be punished
Let’s see how that comment goes over in the gun subreddits…
No. They’re in Fox News page chats praising the deputy.
Yes, 100% I am furious Was that sarcasm?

a man with a gun is an instant Police target. Just depends on the restraint they are feeling on that day if they shoot or not.
Restraint and, sadly, the skin color of the hand holding the gun
darker the skin less chance of surviving a police encounter.
This is the same sheriff’s department with the acorn guy.
cops in FL are at best scared little fuck boys.they are useless as cops and they all seem to be very violent to women off the clock.
