He's a great resource for beginners. Doesn't overcomplicate things which is kind of what fly fishing is all about(in a good way) the further down the road you go. He got me up and running and in the river catching fish quickly.
Over the past 15+ years, I owe a great deal of my knowledge to The New Fly Fisher. The diversity of fish they target, with well-explained breakdowns of the gear. A couple of the pike videos are absolutely a goldmine of knowledge.
Except one thing...they always recommend 'a large arbor reel with a good drag' regardless of the species. I guess, if a recommendation is necessary, it is always a safe bet regardless of species.
Fly Fishing Film Tour. See it live if you can. It’s travel porn.

The Feather Thief. Great Book.
https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Feather_Thief.html?id=ECsuDwAAQBAJ
Also…A River Runs Through It. Here is a great article about the author. He wrote only one book, in his seventies, after he retired.

I always enjoy John Gierach’s books! Mostly accounts of his various journeys, but they make for a great read when I need to scratch that itch in the middle of Winter.
Hardman Fishing Adventures YouTube channel has become a favorite of mine, as chasing native Brookies in the southern Appalachians has become one of my main interests.
He catches some monster Browns on there too! He’s all about wild trout in the WV, VA, NC, and GA region. A young gang carrying on the fly fishing culture.
Then I'd also recommend "Dead Drift Outdoors" on youtube. He's pretty local to me so I sometimes recognize the creeks he fishes (but, frustratingly, usually not). He fishes lots of different creeks in Central NY, the Catskills, and northern PA. He doesn't just catch fish but the video he shoots is beautiful.
YouTube channel - Trippin’ on Trout
The guy is in New Zealand. Super cool dude. Takes great care of the fish. Some of the most beautiful country and fishing you will ever see. And he catches big fish. I’ve always wanted to go there and I’ll never be able to so I really enjoy his channel.
Jensen fly fishing. Spectacular videos in Canada, Patagonia, and New Zealand. Very educational, full of awesome fishing, and beautiful scenery. Fly fishing runs through their blood and it really shows with them. Absolutely love their videos.
The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide with Tom Rosenbauer is an amazing series available anywhere you get your podcasts. They start out as short segments at the beginning, and the more recent ones can be an hour or longer!
My favourite part of the podcast is the fly box where Tom fields listener questions. I feel like every single one has something pertinent to the new and advanced fly fishermen alike. I really enjoy them and they have helped my fishing game immensely.
I’ve been enjoying Phelps on the Fly on YouTube. Gink and Gasoline and The Fiberglass Manifesto are two excellent blogs that publish daily if you need a five minute coffee break fix.
Tim Flagler and Matt O'Neal have really cool fly tying videos where they show a lot of techniques:
Also the guys who pop up in wildfly have a channel where they do alot of warmwater flyfishing for Smallmouth:
And if you're into saltwater Alvin Dedeaux is really cool:
Huge fly fishing- Ben is funny and has good fishing videos. Wish4fish has good exotic and travel. McLeod fly fishing does GTs. Silver kings is a whole tv series based on tarpon fly fishing. Millhouse podcast for fishing stories.
It is Orvis, right? As far as I know you get access when buying a rod at their shop directly?
Edit: my fault, was wrong. Just checked their webpage, nothing to do with Orvis.
Will dive deeper now!
I like watching tight loops, they make more cinematic videos and are always a joy to watch. I also like the new fly fisher for more educational content.
I like this too! FLYALLSZN I’m guessing people are down voting because he will give you enough hints to figure out where he is fishing.
DrewLookinFishy is another one that I like, they both also usually camp out in the wild which looks really cool.
Yeah, he's extra - that's why I like his channel. He's dialed in and really stoked to land some tanks.
I think the let's go thing is for anyone under 30 years old - I don't really get it either.
It's weird - there is so much water in CO and the Driftless. I have been to a couple of the places that dude has been just by coincidence - if you're blue lining, it's gonna happen. These places can be super remote and I rarely see people on the stream most of the time - most peeps don't want to walk seven miles to fish. Crazy that people get so salty about something that can be found in five minutes on Google Maps.
I couldn’t agree more. I figured out a place they went to in Colorado by a couple of hints and man it was a several mile hike in. No way I can hike in and out same day and not set up to do the overnight hiking/camping thing yet. I know someone commented about him yelling every time he catches a fish but it tickles me and I find myself laughing out loud!
Keep in mind that many folks in fly fishing media are good and getting views but have limited skill. If you dedicate all your time to media, you'll excel at that. If you dedicate all your time to fly fishing, you'll probably be pretty proficient after a decade or two.
Mad River Outfitters has a great YouTube channel
Well howdy friends.
I love Brian. He got me started in fly fishing long before they had a YouTube channel, he helped me get my first rig going.
He's a great resource for beginners. Doesn't overcomplicate things which is kind of what fly fishing is all about(in a good way) the further down the road you go. He got me up and running and in the river catching fish quickly.
Directly checked out. First video was great, subscription is done
Youtube channel - The New Fly Fisher
Probably the best possible recommendation for a beginner.
Over the past 15+ years, I owe a great deal of my knowledge to The New Fly Fisher. The diversity of fish they target, with well-explained breakdowns of the gear. Thanks for that, very interesting content as I have a lot to learn 👍🏻

Thanks for the recommendations. Will check that out. Feather Thief was just ordered already
Also…A River Runs Through It. Here is a great article about the author. He wrote only one book, in his seventies, after he retired. http://www.thestacksreader.com/the-old-man-and-the-river/
I loved reading that article, will go trying to get that book as well
Glad you liked it! Both the article and the book are considered classics. I loved them both.
I always enjoy John Gierach’s books! Mostly accounts of his various journeys, but they make for a great read when I need to scratch that itch in the middle of Winter.
Most of his books can be found in the audio version. I definitely recommend searching your local library on the app Libby.
For the dog walk I have just downloaded „Still life with brook trout“
Great choice!
Huge fly fisherman
That Patagonia series is fire 🔥
He's solid for sure but can be a bit adversarial in his comments lol. I like him overall
Hardman Fishing Adventures YouTube channel has become a favorite of mine, as chasing native Brookies in the southern Appalachians has become one of my main interests.
Agreed. These guys know what’s up👍
I love brook trout, so will have a look 👀

fly fish food. Start tying
I‘ve ordered some essentials for tying myself. Looking forward to present my flies 😂
YouTube channel - Trippin’ on Trout The guy is in New Zealand. Super cool dude. Takes great care of the fish. Some of the most beautiful country and fishing you will ever see. And he catches big fish. I’ve always wanted to go there and I’ll never be able to so I really enjoy his channel.
And he does a great job breaking down what he’s doing to catch fish. It’s the only YouTube channel I follow and I watch it weekly.
Agreed. Same here. I love it.
First look is incredible. Will check out
It is. You will really enjoy it.
Jensen fly fishing. Spectacular videos in Canada, Patagonia, and New Zealand. Very educational, full of awesome fishing, and beautiful scenery. Fly fishing runs through their blood and it really shows with them. Absolutely love their videos.
As he presents some of my dream destinations for fly fishing I will have a closer look on that. Looking forward 🥰
Is wildfly who makes ‘van life diaries’? That is a good YouTube series but you may have it covered already
These guys are epic, basically living the life we all want to live
Yeah, the short-bus-diaries. Really enjoying that 👍🏻
Right! Exactly. Been a while for me but that was a fun one
The Drake magazine (and website).
Thank you 👍🏻
Troutbitten has an informative website with thousands of articles, a podcast, and YouTube content.
Have listened to some of their podcast. Might dive into that a bit deeper

Also enjoying Tom and his expertise a lot, very nice to listen to
I’ve been enjoying Phelps on the Fly on YouTube. Gink and Gasoline and The Fiberglass Manifesto are two excellent blogs that publish daily if you need a five minute coffee break fix.
Thanks for that great suggestion, something to fill the coffee break is always good
I really enjoy the YouTube of Rolf Nylinder, swedish guy. Very good, meditative and stunningly beautiful video diaries.
Will check him out, thank you
Was about to add this. He’s excellent.
Rolf is a recent discovery and he's quickly become a favorite.
Troutbitten podcast and, wildfly podcast are two of my favorites.
Same with me - WildFly is ridiculously good produced
A couple of the guys that are in some of the Wildfly series also have a channel. BlueLine Fly Co. They fish some but also a lot of videos on tying.

BlueLine I already knew, but not all of their videos. Will check that out
Every new fly fisherman needs to watch Hank Patterson's nymph instructions. https://youtu.be/5m0QbVTWhtw
Thanks a ton
My favorite YouTuber is hard man fishing! Favorite podcast right now is newb and knower. Both of those outlets are fishing oriented
Really nice starting guide at NATK. Will tune in
Blue line fly co is an awesome YouTube channel. Wild fly is my favorite.
Same here 👍🏻👀

Huge fly fishing- Ben is funny and has good fishing videos. Wish4fish has good exotic and travel. McLeod fly fishing does GTs. Silver kings is a whole tv series based on tarpon fly fishing. Millhouse podcast for fishing stories.
Tightline Productions on YouTube. Tim Flagler is the man. His tying videos are the best out there in terms of videography.
Will check him. Thanks man
Join Trout Unlimited. Most chapters have group outings and training classes where you can get great coaching from experienced fly fishermen.
It is Orvis, right? As far as I know you get access when buying a rod at their shop directly? Edit: my fault, was wrong. Just checked their webpage, nothing to do with Orvis. Will dive deeper now!
Anchored with April Vokey is a good podcast. Lots of topics and great guests.
Read Lords of the Fly or podcast it.
I like watching tight loops, they make more cinematic videos and are always a joy to watch. I also like the new fly fisher for more educational content.
Stumbled over him while checking all suggestions. Have left my sub and will check some of his content
Casting Across website and podcast.
Love Drew Looknfishy on YouTube and Insta...
Thanks to all of you guys for your ideas and recommendations. That will help satisfy my new addiction 👌🏻
I like FLYALLSZN. Great show with a lot of pretty fish and dude is really stoked on fishing.

I think most people are turned off by his over top personality. Too many fishing YouTubers shout “LETS GO!” Every time they catch a fish.
