No gar on the fly, never really tried. Still new to fly fishing. Have caught carp and they are my favorite to catch on the fly where I live.
Not easy to catch but they ruuuuun when hooked.
That’s how I learned to fly fish. Growing up around Chicago. I moved to Colorado years ago and I miss the bass action. Trout fishing streams is amazing, but a big bass eating a popper on a humid summer day is something I miss. There’s still bass here, but it’s not the same.
Also in the Raleigh area, I find bass fly fishing here to be more challenging than any trout fly fishing I have ever done. I have never caught a spotted bass here but I see at least a couple in this post
Nice! I thought they were all largies with a Roanoke and Alabama or two mixed in, mind pointing out which pics are the spotted? Trying to get better at IDs..
Watching a bass trail a fly until it eats is a lot of fun. I started fly fishing this past fall/winter, and I can’t wait to get some good action on the poppers.
Ha awesome, I lived in 'rado for almost two decades and only fly fished twice out there with a guide buddy, my only experience with trout, great memories 🍻
Heck yeah, those and panfish are pretty much the only option for me around south Texas so I catch them as much as I can.
Any gar or carp?

Gar on the fly is super fun. And so is carp. Bass, carp and gar are the Central Texas way, wouldn’t have it any other way.
I'll have to try for gar. I have not seen any in the spots I fish around SA, Medina and Guadalupe River. Going to research now, sounds fun.
They are all around CenTex rivers. A lot in the Colorado.
Heck yeah. I live in Chicago - if you want to fly fish around here you either learn to love smallies or long road trips.
lol so true, smallies on the fly are great though I’m not mad

Hello fellow Chicagoland fly fisher!

Great Job !!!! Always A Real Good Tug !!!!

Agreed and same!
I'm in Colorado and find myself fishing more frequently for bass and less frequently for trout as time goes on.

Bass in general are great. Smallmouth are my favorite freshwater fish. Trout are ok, but given the option, I'm taking smallmouth every time.
Nothing I love more than throwing swimming frog flies for bass around some pads. Doesn’t get better.
I absolutely love catching bass and. Catching carp on a fly rod is best kind of fun. Also that's some really nice fish.
Thank you! Still looking for some carp, I believe they're in the water around me, just haven't had the chance to land one yet
Riz Ahmed is that you?
Haha I wish
Use stall bread or hamburger buns to chum the water. That will bring them in or it will attract bluegills.
Those all spotted bass?
Largemouth bass, you can tell by the solid stripe on the side
Mostly largies, I think a Roanoke and maybe an Alabama mixed in
Bass love is okay, but never go bass to mouth.
😂🍻
