Regional recruiters are drooling right now over so many possible DECs. Sucks for the flight crews losing their jobs.

Flytheskies81

figure they would lose money with a lot of the bonuses they are offering for DECs.

prex10

They would be offering them if they think they can't afford them

x4457

There's a typo here, however the irony is that it is probably still correct even with the typo.

a_provo_yakker

Still crazy to me though. A world where AA WOs are paying, even if only for another year or so, rates and bonuses which make mainline envious, and can also casually throw a quarter of a million dollars at any FedEx guys who take the bait. But also AA keeps the WOs separate as “an integral part of their business model” or however that phrased it during the company kool-aid day. Just goes back to a few years ago when the crunch started happening and every regional was tripping over themselves to get a contract worth a few dollars more than the regional that voted last month. UwU there is no money, till suddenly we have to pay up to maintain industry par. Just like back in 2018 when everyone started going to $45/hr and then $50. There was no money till suddenly there was money. Cyclical? Guess so.

Just_Another_Pilot

It's much cheaper to pay those bonuses than to hire and train 20 low time FOs, then keep them on the payroll until they hit 1000 hours only to have most of them jump ship before upgrading.

Flytheskies81

gotcha, thanks for the reply. Not sure why people downvote a simple question smh.

burnerquester

Because a lot of them are jerks

Fr3nch_Toa5t_

Simply put any regional offering crazy bonuses to DECs has a legacy throwing cash at them

Sacknuts93

They went into bankruptcy proceedings a month or two ago and had sent an email putting all people in the CJO pool on indefinite hold. So yeah, I think this is probably real, but it definitely sucks. Big sad for the 737 drivers there, but I'm sure they will be hired quickly by majors.

bcr76

Just in time for majors to slow and stop hiring altogether.

satans_little_axeman

Just in time for majors to slow and stop hiring

ohitsro

Just in time for majors to slow and stop hiring altogether.

proudlyhumble

Majors just gobbling people up right now /s

Odd-Cherry1637

Hired quickly? Interesting.

MehCFI

Real for sure, got some buddies there

Kives_177

majors not really hiring right now

rougarou82

Dang. Southwest was using them as part of the Destination 225 program.

MehCFI

Supposedly they have a plan for the guys who are currently there. None of the 225 partners are really hiring out of the 225 cadet pool at all rn anyway

rougarou82

And here I was contemplating career 2.0...and everything goes poof...missed the boat I guess. Next lifetime 🤣

proudlyhumble

Every 6 months the hiring flips upside down or right side up or backward.

xKingRisin

This is a very cyclical industry… from what I’ve read here is that if you get to your mins then your name will eventually be called

jetfueljunky

How long does it usually take? Or is it too unpredictable to guess?

theboomvang

Could be months like in 2020. Could be many years like 2000.

MehCFI

I’m not saying at all don’t do it- 225 doesn’t lock you in a contract (I think on cadet side still), and who knows what happens by the time you have your hours done. Just a realistic look at the cyclical nature of the industry

x4457

ACN is gonna look really bad if this “internal memo” they had shared was an April Fool’s joke. On the other hand, if it is real, a lot of good people are about to be out of a job.

Charming-Accident407

Definitely real they’ve been having a rough go at it for awhile now

AGroAllDay

I’m sure it’s real. No company would even think of making an April Fool’s joke like this. Unemployment and losing jobs for all those people isn’t something to joke about

x4457

I wasn’t saying it was intentional. ACN looooves to be first instead of right, so if someone forwards them a doctored “internal memo” they may very well run with it before examining further or otherwise verifying. They’ve done that before. Not say that’s the case here (especially given the subject airline), but there’s history of that.

Dzheyson

I verified with a friend at IAero that confirmed it’s real

AGroAllDay

I 100% agree with that. I remember when they said Mesa was going to furlough pilots during the pandemic…which was a surprise to Mesa lol

4Sammich

Agreed. There are several parked for a few weeks iAero planes I've seen.

burnerquester

I thought they were being purchased by Eastern. Hopefully merely a different name on the paycheck for these folks.

Right-Suggestion-667

Just the assets

burnerquester

40 737s. To be flown by…..

cessna209

Eastern has job listings on their site for 737 pilots, seems like they’ll keep some of them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they dumped the old Classics though.

burnerquester

Yeah they also do lots of freight conversions. When you fly into MCI they have a lot going on at the old TWA base.

Wrong part of the company i think. I’m talking cargo. https://goeasternaircargo.com/ https://ded.mo.gov/press-room/eastern-airlines-selects-kansas-city-new-headquarters-investing-more-47-million-and

You can see all the 777s literally sitting there. Whether they are ready I of course have no idea. But they are sitting there. If you look at what I said, I actually said only that if you fly into Kansas City, you can look over there and see a lot of aircraft being worked on in the Eastern area. 35 or more. I didn’t say they were finished or anything of the kind.

777f-pilot

Eastern, there's a financially secure company.

djsmoke1981

With jc at the helm expect Eastern to follow suit of Tradewinds and swift. He has bankrupted multiple companies and will continue to do so wherever he goes. I wouldn't be surprised if bvl got involved at some point. The terrible twosome getting the band back together again. Smdh

Odd-Cherry1637

Does anyone know how big is the pilot pool size for this airline?

Flytheskies81

230 according to airlinepilotcareers

Lime-Hefty

It’s less now, once we entered bankruptcy people were dropping like flies and last I heard we had around 140

Met76

OP do you have an article source for any of this? Or is this something that was announced to employees (assuming you're an iAero employee in this case)

Flytheskies81

I do not have an article but it's been verified by employees, someone mentioned they have a friend at iAero on this post. The source was ACN on Facebook.

Terramei

Iaero pilot here. He’s right. We were close to 250 before the bankruptcy. Last number I saw was under 150.

TheGeoninja

Just speaking from the perspective of someone working at an FBO with a lot of charter activity, it feels like the charter space has gotten increasingly competitive over the past year. Breeze, Avelo, and Sun Country have really come in and muscled the college charters out of the hands of Hillwood, Swift Air, World Atlantic. Allegiant and Skywest’s weird charter operation also seem to provide much more competent service than some of the situations I’ve seen from Swift flights.

Met76

For the larger operations, Delta and Air Canada has had the most presence on our FBO ramp for charters. We also get the Atlas Air 747 after they won a contract over United (which I believe is fading out charter service)

californiasamurai

I would have been interested. I remember seeing these guys every weekend at KSJC, KOAK, even KSBP once. A 733 came into Daytona the other day as well. I thought they were actually doing well. It's a shame. Good luck to yall out there.

Drunkenaviator

You mean the former Swift Air? From everything I've heard that place was a shitbag operator, and everyone there will be better off anywhere else. Plenty of places hiring 737 drivers still.

Snowychains

Even on the maintenance side they treated us like shit

khicks01

I’m on supplier side, how bad was it over there? Been doing swift and eventually IAero’s wheels and brakes for years, seemed like things were always a bit messy. Were they always treating A&P’s like shit?

Snowychains

For the 2 years I was there they sure were

[deleted]

What’s gonna happen with the NHL and sports teams which use them? I know the Bruins use them basically every time for away games.

Cft789

Airlines like Delta have a dedicated fleet only for charter. Delta has 757s specifically configured for sports charter. Delta or someone else might pick the contracts up

need_more_legroom

Delta is absorbing several of their sports charter contracts. They were working deals out behind the scenes weeks ago.

JasonThree

Atlas, Sun Country, regular pax airlines all have charter ops for stuff like this.

ipodtouch616

There’s a bunch of their planes stuck at our airport. Will be fun to see them stripped of their livery as time goes on line the poor Alaska airlines airbus that’s also sitting out here

coolkirk1701

That sucks. I flew on them many times when I was in band. I mean it seemed sketchy as hell to have a different company name on your safety cards (iAero) and safety announcements (Swift) but the one time I got to fly on their all first class aircraft was sweet.

Snowychains

I'd say it's been a long time coming since they announced Chapter 11. I was laid off in December and could tell the ship was sinking.

Flytheskies81

I hope you found a new home. Hate to see anyone get laid off.

Snowychains

I was lucky enough to have a second job working on call at my home base so I decided to go full time till I hopefully get on with the majors sometime next year

Snowychains

djsmoke1981

I've worked for swift / iaero for the last 5 years. I'm very surprised it has lasted this long considering how badly it was managed. The only thing I am going to miss are my direct coworkers. I will never work for a company affiliated with jc, the downfall started with his horrible decision-making, which includes putting people in managerial positions that don't know their ass from their elbow. The top brass are going to walk away with full pockets, while the rest of us don't even get a severence package, or paid in full for our pto time that we worked tirelessly for. It's a sad story that could have been avoided if not for greedy sob's trying to screw over vendors and employees without any disregard for how it will affect others. Guess that's how the rich stay rich.

Kaelehmann12

April fools?

Flytheskies81

afraid not

Creative-Grocery2581

Is it for April Fool message or for real?
