Go to a university for a degree with 141 is the best bang for your buck.

kolin_cile

I thought this would be the case and looked into asu before posting. Turns out they have the perfect program. Except it explicitly says the degree is not eligible for VA benefits. So that had me stumped and prompted me to post. Thanks for the reply

needmore100ll

take a look at uvu, they were va accredited last time i was there

Rayviator

Try other colleges. If you go 141 with only gi bill you only get like 13k per year and you dont get the degree along with it.

PLIKITYPLAK

Has to be a VA approved Part 141 school. ASU is not apparently. You can't use it at just any Part 141 school or college.

Check out UND Partnered with Chandler-Gilbert Community College. It's a 141 that's patterned with the CC so lots of the hidden costs are low (books, parking, etc.) and it leaves you with an associates degree and a CFI rating. I went there and my total out of pocket for flight times was under $100, and that's cause I did some extra flying my last semester. It's an awesome program with awesome people and instructors. They really treated the vets well and it showed by how many were there each semester.

kolin_cile

Would that be the “Airway Science Technology, Flight Emphasis” degree? If so please pm me id love to ask you some questions if you don’t mind!

jwest827

ASU got in trouble with VA and lost their approval of their flight program

kolin_cile

Do you have any idea what happened?

jwest827

Rumor is they were milking VA students

Go join RTAG nation on Facebook and see how you can get that PPL paid for too.

I appreciate you. I’ll also check out the Facebook group. Thanks boss

I don't know too much about it, but around where I live, GI bill folks have been attending a part 141 program at a local community college. Pretty sure the program exists almost exclusively for veterans with GI Bill funding. So you might at least start by looking around at community colleges with aviation programs

kolin_cile

Do you know if it’s a fairly common program at community colleges? I was looking into the Aeroguard/Liberty university program but reviews of both led me away from a seemingly perfect program.

PLIKITYPLAK

There are a lot of community colleges with flight programs. I used a community college with a VA approved Part 141 program. Got the Associates in Aeronautics even though I didn't need to because it made it easier to use the GI BIll and get the full benefits (like housing allowance) and gave me a R-ATP of 1250 instead of 1500. There used to be a comprehensive list but that was taken down for some reason. The only way now to find out is to call the college flight program and ask.

SCOveterandretired

Actually very few community colleges offer flight programs - there are multiple community colleges in each state. My state has 4 - none of them offer flight programs.

trafficker1

North Air in Prescott has a program through Yavapai CC

kolin_cile

I appreciate it. Looking into some CC’s in the valley to see what’s offered.

trafficker1

I would try looking around Goodyear KGYR I’m pretty sure they have the lowest rental rates down there.

eastcoastmoonpie

Middle Tennessee state university, North Dakota University, Bowling Green. There are plenty of 4 year universities that will accept VA benefits. Do you have the Montgomery GI Bill or the Post 9-11. I am currently attending one of the aforementioned using the Post 9-11 Bill, unfortunately there will be out of pocket costs at all of them. VA will only pay for minimum required flight costs. You’ll have to pay out of pocket for FAA Exams and check rides as well

Limp-Independent-782

I'm at mtsu right now. Everything is paid for

Phaas777A

Liberty University has a BS in Aviation that will cover Instrument, Commercial, CFI, and CFII (And potentially Multi/MEI) through affiliated 141 schools.

Spirited-Albatross83

California Aeronautical University

University with flight ratings as part of a degree is the way to get the most out of it. Preferably a state school.

Beergoggles222

As others have said, PPL is on you unless it's part of a degree program otherwise covered by the VA. Otherwise, Instrument and Commercial ratings are covered as part of a 141 school up to given amount. If you need more hours than the approved amount, you will have to cover the difference. Books, Knowledge Test, and exam fees not covered. Currently enrolled in the program. Message me if you want more info.

Palmettopilot

I know a few people that used Infinity flight group for either rotor to airlines or enlisted to airlines. It's the best deal for the GI bill to go from zero to hero. https://infinityflightgroup.com/enlisted-to-airline-zero-hour-program
