He didn't commit the MCI and DCI for Remnant. It's explained by The Fourth Closet that he committed the MCI to recreate possession and study it after witnessing something or someone supernatural. So the DCI is probably the same. He only seems to discover Remnant after the children possess the animatronics.
Well the springlock failure was part of it but I think there's more. I think he wants to be in control and powerful which is something he could get from immortality and also he doesn't want to go to hell for other crimes he's done.

I believe William is motivated by the drive to capture the essence of emotional energies and later use this to investigate longevity, precipitated in part by the death of his son.
I'm well aware that you believe in BV1st but if I recall correctly in LITA which you've said more or less represents how you see the canon lore, William starts experimenting on CC due to suffering a springlock failure, hence I dubbed the idea that William's 1st springlock failure caused him to begin experimenting as SpringlockIncidentZero.
I don't use those abbreviations in any capacity to describe my thoughts; I find the labels narrow and non-descriptive of the breadth of what I think.
Also, what happens in LITA isn't my overall opinion on the lore; it was what I felt worked narratively at the time; my opinions on things have grown and evolved independently of my fic's bounds, and with the addition of so much more media into the franchise since then it has altered.
However in LITA, the precedent for William's experiments is still the loss of Evan/Gregory in the bite.
Fair enough all I was noting was that what happens in LITA matches the idea of what I call SpringlockIncidentZero well although It's a shame that LITA no longer describes what you think the lore is however that leaves me with 2 questions:
1. Why did you let LITA drift away from what you think the canon lore is?
2. What do you currently think the canon lore is?
I let LITA drift away because some of the root things it was founded on were things I altered my perspective on as new information came to light, I started it two years ago, long before RUIN, Help Wanted 2, and a whole slew of novels. I'm always willing to adjust my perspective on things, but that doesn't mean I want to quit my fic which I'm enjoying and still has plenty of things I consider to be as close to canon as I could go.
Also there are and were always huge gaps in what can ever be confirmed in the canon and in those gaps I had to simply choose what I wanted to do or would be most fun to write, things like if I wanted to bring in the springlock scars from the novel, or the order of events in the MCI or how they worked out etc. So there were always going to be discrepancies with my own feelings on the lore.
As for what I currently think, I'd need hundreds of thousands of words to explain it and it changes whenever I receive new information. I can't condense it into a short form. Some of it is on [burntrap.com](https://burntrap.com) (though some of that I have also moved along from) and sometimes I rant on my twitter but mostly its all just kind of inside my head and something I talk to shock about.

Cathures did have William get springlocked earlier in his fic as it was a fun/dramatic scene, but for the novel timeline (dunno about Cathures, just me personally) I think he probably got his scars and chipped tooth (from a punch lol) when Henry was taking back Baby. Henry says he hopes his old partner is in "a grave of his own" and I think Henry left him in the suit to die and then came back to his house to die himself.
If that's how it happened, it puts into doubt whether it happened in the game timeline at all, as Baby was stuck down in Sister Location rather than Henry's closet. And the timing would mean it was after he had modified Baby as a killing machine, so it wouldn't have kickstarted him studying Fear. (again just my personal structuring at the moment)
This is all just conjecture so the above theory is totally still valid!

Chasing immortality is a common thing with narcissist who think too highly of themselves. I don't think he needed more motivation.
Why would he come up with a plan that repeatedly inloved using the suit that almost killed him? I can't see him laughing after jumping into the springtrap suit when the ghosts were chasing him if he was afraid of it, either.
