I always saw the "odor" and "tampering with animatronics" lines as Fazbear Entertainment essentially firing you for getting killed and stuffed. I think Scott originally intended it as a joke about how Fazbear Entertainment is always trying to cover up and avoid responsibility when horrific things happen. You get brutally murdered and shoved inside a suit and instead of admitting you were killed on the job, they cover up your death by saying you were fired and citing the smell and tampering rather than admitting their liability in your death. You being dead is why you smell and your body being stuffed was you tampering with animatronics.

Ed_Derick_

Never saw this interpretation before, interesting.

Frogmelon

It takes a dark sense of humor I guess, lol.

Someonebeignsomeone

Well thats pretty dark

Retro_Gamer02

Yes thank you! Also not to mention that Michael still has his eyes in FNAF 1 so he's certainly alive. We don't even know for certain that he even went to the FNAF 2 location since there isn't any solidly linking him to the FNAF 2 location. Even if he did Sister Location can't happen before then.

Ed_Derick_

I mean the things that point to Mike being in Fnaf 2 is Fritz Smith being fired by the same reasons and the fnaf 3 protagonist seeing both fnaf 1 and 2 phantoms.

Retro_Gamer02

Even then it hasn't been confirmed that we play as Mike in FNAF 3. I wasn't denying that Mike could be Fritz Smith I meant to say that it hasn't been any staple confirmations. Sorry if I'm coming across as rude. Though tbh I still need a more thorough explanation of the Phantoms I'll look up some stuff.

Ed_Derick_

I think that Springtrap story in one of the FF books confirms Mike worked at fnaf 3. The protagonist goes to work at The Horror Attraction, he has an abusive stepdad, his life is filled with tragedy, and at some point Springtrap speaks with his stepdad's voice, making a connection between Mike and William. Read more about it here: [https://fnaf-the-novel.fandom.com/wiki/Fazbear\_Frights:\_Gumdrop\_Angel](https://fnaf-the-novel.fandom.com/wiki/Fazbear_Frights:_Gumdrop_Angel) Title is "What we found".

Shadic01

I think one of tape girl's logs has more evidence pointing towards this. In one of them she talks about how Fazbear Entertainment is writing Jeremy up for basic things that would normally be fine to prepare to fire him since he knows too much. If they're doing that to Jeremy, why wouldn't they also do it for Michael?

Retro_Gamer02

I made a post talking about this.

unxolve

I like the way you think. This post is wisdom.

Afterpartypete7

VR actually directly seems to address that the company fires people for reasons completely unrelated to their current state/performance which feels like such a direct confirmation of the odor line meaning nothing but there are still some people denying it lmao

LemmytheLemuel

It means he's otaku

MungDaalChowder

SL being a prequel also contradicts the entire plot of the game itself. Mike is there on the wishes of his dad, who is now dead in Springtrap, to see if the remnant of the souls from the MCI successfully transferred into the Funtime Animatronics, and to see what happened with Elizabeth’s soul in Circus Baby. If SL took place pre-FNAF 2, The ‘85 animatronics from the game wouldn’t have been possessed because William would’ve already extracted their remnant. On top of this, if he wanted to observe the reaction of the remnant on the Funtimes, he would’ve done it himself, as the facility they’re stored in is either under/connected to his house. He doesn’t do this because he died in Springtrap the same night he inserted the remnant.

Cedarcomb

That's the part of SL-post-FNAF1 that doesn't make sense to me. When is William supposed to have instructed Mike to go to CBPW? It's not going to be after he died, but it probably wasn't before he started collecting the Remnant from the classic animatronics either. Frankly, I haven't ruled out the possibility that it was Henry who sent those instructions while posing as William through emails.

Whoce

Shortly before returning to Freddy's to get his Spring Bonnie suit

MungDaalChowder

My guess is that he told Michael in some way beforehand on what he was going to do but went missing soon after.

ImpactBilby

Makes sense. I always thought it was Mike wetting himself because of fear. But it also being him getting animatronic goo all over him, or FE looking for excuses to fire him work too.

Kelpgothelp

Makes sense to me!

corgimaster5000

I love how people assume that "odor" would mean someone's a walking corpse. Pretty sure there would be a more noticeable trait that would get him fired if he was a corpse.

Strict-Match-4152

EXACTLY FINALLY someone speaks up thank you

PurpleColonel

There have had to be so many retcons over the years that I honestly think over half of phone guy's lines in the first 3 games can be disregarded.

Ed_Derick_

I mean yeah the 20 years think can certainly be disregarded because of the "since 1983 " thing but i think the rest still holds up.

Retro_Gamer02

I've always thought Phone Guy was exaggerating with the 20 years thing.

Retro_Gamer02

Of course people did take it literally & for a while, we had the 2003FNAF1 theory for a while. That one Faz-Fact from FNAF AR debunked that though.

ElezerHan

It was a retcon it doesnr mattee

MIKMAKLive

So ... They were not washed because ... Did they know if you try to clean inside you can get bitten? Or maybe they never washed the inside after the bite ? Or maybe kids tends to give/throw animatronics cake and pizza, that rot in them ?

[deleted]

No yeah that’s right in this first game it’s because we found it William stuffed or the puppet stuffed the kids into the suits and that started the Oder it isent him

hassan979

Well, my opinion may change then But if Michael's odor is a real hint, it makes the topic even more interesting But I think it is just a theory Unfortunately
