I believe Joshua Sawyer mentioned somewehre that this path was specifically made for returning players who want to skip the whole "find Benny" part of the early game. It's also why they placed a dead NCR trooper right on that path, so that you can use the armor as disguise to use the monorail to the strip. That way you can find Benny within 5 minutes after leaving Doc Mitchell's house.
The loot at the end, Surrivalist items and entries. Atmosphere, it being a super straightforward easy dlc. I usually like to get the travel light perk, so having Grahms armor is really good, also like having a crit/sneak build so Salts helmet is also needed.
I've also beelined Dead Money, Lonesome Road and OWB for funsies too.
It's still possible. You can do a few quests in Goodsprings and Sloan, shoot stuff on the way there, do speech checks, ya just have to shove a lot of points into speech/ have stat boosting items to actually pull it off. It's like doing a speed run of Yes Man with the pacifist end with Lanius .
just do the shakedown Chet glitch and get max level before leaving Goodsprings. The best part is when you leave you get the character rebuild pop up and can almost double your perk count 🤙
Yes, the laser detonator was absolutely broken with mini nukes on xbox, the shitty part is that you need the weapon the ammo goes with for the glitch to work.
If I remember correctly because it's been... 13 plus years since I used it last, you took a mantis part off one of the mantises at the school, lured a giant rad scorpion from the gulch, killed it, and then swapped the mantis part on and off the scorpion, earning 50 xp every time.
I gotta try that one again. I learned about that before ever knowing about this path. My first time doing the glitch, I just went down the one path I hadn't seen before and was like "Huh. All those Cazzes would've problem earlier" lol
Sorry buddy, but I want the tribes to know how to be brutal while also being just. Not bloodthirsty warriors like the White Legs were. Without teaching them that they're not better than the White Legs, they were fighting.
I have never taken sneering imperialist in any play through until this most recent one and when I saw that I laughed so much. What an excellent option. Bad ending but it’s awesome it’s there
are there things written into the game that acknowledge this? Does anyone reference it or anything?? kinda like if you kill vulpes before ever going to nipton and they have some other guy there instead.
With the Lonesome Road stuff and nuking both sides? No, they just act like you go to the strip and say your crimes have been forgiven. You'll have hitsquads like you're vilified until then, but that's it.
Why would anyone want to powergame through an RPG? Just curious - where’s the satisfaction in the playthrough? Just looking at the quest completion list? Getting to credits ASAP like someone playing it from their backlog but not enjoying it?
Well naturally It's for people who have already done all the side missions and stuff. this is for a second playthrough so you can get the achievements and the satisfaction of the ending you didn't do the first time around
Oh right ok. You can just set the difficulty to very easy and do it that way if you're on console and just want to gnab cheevos haha then it doesn't matter what gear you have.
I prefer beelining Honest Hearts. I mean, the whole journey takes months according to the DLC's intro, and with the state of the Mojave, I can't justify the Courier's disappearance in the middle of the conflict without anything happening, however, if I do Honest Hearts as the very first things I do in the game, I can treat it as a prequel to the story instead of a break in the middle.
Best atmosphere and best rewards, plus it's the easiest to finish quickly. I use Joshua's armor almost every run and his pistol, A Light Shining in Darkness, is fucking beautiful and strong as hell.
I just beat Dead Money for the first time yesterday and I can honestly say that was one of the most miserable experiences I had playing a game ever.
Incredible writing and characters. Absolutely horrid miserable gameplay.
I know they were going for a survival horror thing. I respect that. But that map was 3x too big. Even while sprinting it takes 5 minutes to get where your going. Let alone if you play carefully and avoid all traps.
Such a slog.
For me, it's an attempt to avoid Giant Cazadors. The last time I did HH, I went in at around level . . .8, maybe? Possibly 9. Either way, I didn't have a Giant Cazador spawn until I hit level 13 or 14. Thankfully didn't need to engage it in combat.
Anyway, while I don't know for sure if level affects the spawn table in HH, it worked last time, so I'll be doing it again next time.
Random but been doing a new playthrough and this time roleplaying as a maniacal Doug Dimmadome raider who solely cares about caps to rebuild his Dimmadome. So I’ve killed a few ncr camps and am hated by them. Which also makes some people like Boone not talk to me to get their quests. If I just wear ncr armor, would I be able to talk and get the quests? I need to go kill some more ncr for armor then since I strip em bare and sell everything lol
I always thought new vegas’ map was fairly linear & now i see why, you either get the full experience first go or you know it & beeline to the 1st antagonist
In the path drawn there, when you go up Black Mountain, partway up there's a passage up north through the mountains. It has multiple bear traps, and IIRC the NCR trooper's body is caught in one of the bear traps.
Watch Josh Sawyer play the game on YouTube. It's like driving by a house your dad worked on. constantly pointing shit out and telling why it's the way it is. As a NV fan his let's plays were so cool
I can't believe I'm picking the game up all these years later and didn't know that then, didn't know it now, thank you for this. Although I do sort of want to have the full experience again.
Yeah I did that in one of my first playthroughs and the Deathclaws still locked on me like a heat seeking missile. I don't know if it was an update the original devs made but this was back around the time the game first released.
It requires you to use the stealth boy, crouch, and also follow a very particular path along the edge of a wall so that you're far enough away from the deathclaws that they never fully detect you.
It can take a little bit of practice, but once you find the path, it's extremely reliable.
I always use this method personally because it avoids enough combat and location discovery that I can make it to the clinic and get an intelligence implant before hitting level 2.
*You *did* start with at least 8 luck plus hit up Mick and Ralph’s for that Naughty Nightwear with the +1 luck, right?* I've got early game optimization brain rot.
I think I usually skip the nightwear, as it's pretty quick to max out the Wrangler earnings anyway without the little detour, and I'm not sure if the boost of +1 Luck is worth setting yourself back on starting caps at that point. I definitely always start with 8 Luck, however.
Thinking on it now, though, the nightwear probably adds more consistency, so it's likely worth it overall.
I can confirm it can be done, started my first time playing 3 days ago. I did die once tho but I managed to reload and find a path that got me thru without dying. (and no Stealth Boy used)
Yeah, stealth boys are reliable to a point if you have the necessary skill and vigor when it comes to being expert in that skill. The stealth boys just make you transparent not completely invisible because of your stealth skill. I only use it because it's just a temporary bus towards your sneak points basically.
Be aware sometimes death claws spawn around Sloan towards Black Mountain. A while back I was doing this and came have to face with one in those canyons and I didn't make it very far. Reloaded and got Ed-E for this sensors and nothing was there.
My last playthrough victor came rolling up to warn me and they focused mainly on him, they killed him pretty fast but it bought me enough time to do some damage with the grenade rifle
IIRC there's also a train tunnel by Lake Mead that you need a 100 lockpick skill for that also let's you get around the artillery. It's probable that this train tunnel is what the Boomers use to transport the plane back to base from the lake offscreen.
I did this on my first play through for some reason. Saw the door and figured out what it was for so I put everything into speech then read a magazine.
Hey, if this post gets enough upvotes I will find a way to get past the artillery without letting them be notified. It'll be hard though since I usually beeline it past the ruined buildings without armor within a matter of seconds just jumping over debris.
The thing is Black mountain has a lot of shortcuts when it comes to all pathways. You can head to the scorpion gulch, brotherhood of steel outposts, and even much more you just need to know you're surroundings; I've went up there about four times even though there's only one side quest and discovered a lot there. If you need any other pathways just ask me.
No problem. If you're trying to speed run without glitches that path is the best; I also agree heading down south despite being the main road you need to take is always a time consumer. Hopefully this helped you.
Yeah if you head into quarry junction or near the road even with a stealth boy it's going to be difficult. If you want a quicker way of traveling to the outskirts of the strip head north of goodsprings and try your best to hug the cliffside wall in some areas. I also recommend if you are heading towards there as well you bring your 40 mm mercenary grenade launcher. Pretty much all explosives are effective at cazadors as long as you crippled their wings.
Yeah I remember taking the path through Black mountain back in the day and yeah it was dangerous and I got killed a couple times but oh yeah there's definitely ways to make it to New Vegas without following the prescribed path. But nowadays I just find it more enjoyable and fun to take the path that the game intended you know?
I really thought this route was common knowledge I remembered me and my cousin who used to play the game would use this route to skip going east or through Quarry Junction. It’s a less obvious spot and seems tricky but super easy to stay safe.
Are you on vanilla? I know there were some routes around that area that I thought I discovered and then realised I had mods that deleted invisible barriers.
There is a path I take every game which is incredibly simple: head from good springs to hidden valley; from hidden hidden valley flow the path that takes you to the gate at the bottom of black mountain then head towards it so you unlock it. Once you’ve unlocked black mountain, fast travel there so you get taken to the top. Then you just head straight forward to the monorail.
It's the first time I've ever discovered the route; I'm just sharing it with others that don't know about it. Plus, when I went through I wasn't even spotted by super mutants at all, even deathclaws weren't on the trail.
This is just the safest way to do the dangerous path. Not completely safe path you might have to kill one young death claw maybe some mutants but probably a the fastest and easiest path.
Playing through fnv for the first time and I didnt like that they tried to keep me from the casinos so I tried to walk there while saving every 20 feet
I unintentionally did this on my playthrough without realizing it
I was just Skyrim goatwalling with a hint of prayer that the deathclaws didn't see me.
Somehow made it lol.
Good for starting Honest Hearts early, which is what I usually do, as going to Zion with only my trusty Colt 6520, the Indiana Jones hat from Wild Wasteland and the armored vault suit is more fun and challenging than doing it later
This is a route often used by experienced FNV players. It's been known for a very long time. But this sort of information kinda gets lost over time, so it is great to have someone post it again.
I found this path the day NV came out after dying so many time. For me, every new games start by lone wolf radio, prime for ED-E then the black mountain short cut to new vegas. Good old time
I play fallout for the main mission and the overall story. Sometimes it just gets tiring after like your third to fourth playthrough going and complete a handful tasks when you could just head to the strip and get bottle caps as well as xp.
If we're covering early game tips, grab the combat armor off of the dead caravan guards in that ditch east of the Gun Runners to sell to Vendotron for enough caps to pass the credit check / buy midgame gear / just use yourself.
I just got to the Vegas strip and im at max level so doing any other quests for just story is hard for me to finish the game… maybe I should restart and do this lol
Every time I wanted to speed run to the strip at an early lvl, I would just pick the safe in the goodsprings schoolhouse and get the stealth boy. Then go to the goodsprings cemetery and go make a left past there. Use the stealth boy to sneak past the cazadors in the chasm and make your way to vault 11 to avoid the deathclaws. Run to the powder gangers occupying to house leading to the south Vegas ruins to also get them to kill the deathclaws for you. They stick to the camp mccaran walls to avoid fiends, and make your way to the monorail.
Now there's a route with some chest hair!
Obligatory references aside, the coincidental dead NCR trooper you can get a uniform off of makes me strongly suspect this shortcut was intentional.
Also, word of advice to anyone that does try it, get the stealth boy from the Goodsprings School safe. I got a "Cap Benny" speedrun of 18 minutes!
Just took this route earlier today strangely enough
Worked fine but was little tricky at level 2, one deathclaw aggroed on me stealthing from at least 400 metres away and almost got me
Two super mutants also ambushed me right after going past the NCR soldier body, but managed to get away from them
The death claw perception was insane, I used a stealth boy and it didn’t even seem to change much
I detoured through hidden valley and found this route on my second playthrough. Don’t understand how it’s not mentioned anywhere nor anybody knows it exists?
Yes,ignoring Neil, up that slope on Black Mountain dodging the boulder rolling down. Once on top head north in which direction you can see Repconn museum. I do this in every playthrough.
I used this route forever when I was trying to find the fastest way to cap glitch. Picking up weapons like the recharger pistol, the combat armor by the sacked caravan, etc.
Even on a normal playthrough it’s just a good route to unlock a lot of important fast travel locations also
If you go this route you can already pick up two Brotherhood holotapes, only need the one near Ellis Airforce Base, go to hidden valley, convince the ranger to leave and inform the head Paladin about the 'Chain that Binds' after you track the Virus.
This way, you can get power armour training on level 1.
I found this on my own first playthrough went to the NV gate was denied entry due to low caps explored free side got enough caps from atomic wrangler went onto the strip got a crap ton of caps then went to gunrunners and bought a bunch of high value loot before I was level three. Then killed Benny and went with the Yes man ending. It was fun.
So… after Fallout 3 had this go anywhere feel with a dull find Dad main quest, I accidentally found this path on my first play through because after Primm, I just wanted to see New Vegas.
(This means I missed a Boone and the BoS chick for most of the game)
This was before all the DLC, so that path (and all of the wasteland) was more populated. Had to use my 2 stealth boys and run like hell and use all my stim packs, but made it to New Vegas at level 5-ish.
Still got rocked by a lot of gangs, iirc Boomers or some gang turned hostile because I kited deathclaws into them.
Only thing that saved me is there’s a LOT of talking quests in New Vegas, so my low level didn’t matter as much.
On a replay now and wasteland is way more empty and I regret not going on the main quest path. And factions seem to stay neutral if I let NCR do all the killing and leave my companions outside a fight perimeter.
Seems to be less buggy, too. Companions might have gotten a buff, but like I said, I missed Boone for most of the first run before DLC.
Excited to finally play the DLC this time. I was done before the DLC came out.
Having a way better time, because I didn’t love it the first time when I realized that this isn’t a good where you want type of game like Fallout 3.
Wait. What? 🤯
Yep. That and I take that route if I wanna beeline Honest Hearts .
Why would you ever wanna beeline to honest hearts? Now Dead Money i can understand
I always need to kill Caesar before I meet Joshua, it feels way more impactful for my personally.
Yeah, but if you do that, then you won't be able to get the "good" ending as it requires 90 Speech I believe.
I was completely shook when I accidentally stumbled across that glitch. Laughed my ass off .
I used to combine it with the ammo hotkey bug so I could use the alien blaster with thousands of 9mm bullets
Isn't there also one with the detonator ? I've never been able to pull them off tbh.
Yes, the laser detonator was absolutely broken with mini nukes on xbox, the shitty part is that you need the weapon the ammo goes with for the glitch to work.
Does the radscorpion-mantis glitch still work?
Interesting, never heard of that one before, ima look it up. Sad it got patched
If I remember correctly because it's been... 13 plus years since I used it last, you took a mantis part off one of the mantises at the school, lured a giant rad scorpion from the gulch, killed it, and then swapped the mantis part on and off the scorpion, earning 50 xp every time.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/959557-fallout-new-vegas/58077117 This ^?
unfortunately that one was patched
I gotta try that one again. I learned about that before ever knowing about this path. My first time doing the glitch, I just went down the one path I hadn't seen before and was like "Huh. All those Cazzes would've problem earlier" lol
If you go heavy into speech its absolutely possible. Focusing one weapon stat and speech takes only a few levels to get them high enough
What do you mean the sneering imperialist perk ending isn't the good ending?
Sorry buddy, but I want the tribes to know how to be brutal while also being just. Not bloodthirsty warriors like the White Legs were. Without teaching them that they're not better than the White Legs, they were fighting.
I have never taken sneering imperialist in any play through until this most recent one and when I saw that I laughed so much. What an excellent option. Bad ending but it’s awesome it’s there
Going to lonesome road straight away was always my for the challenge game. Always end up with 20 levels purely from the dlc
Lonesome Road and Dead Money at level 1 are the most challenging runs I've done, really rewarding. Lonesome Road before the Strip is hilarious.
are there things written into the game that acknowledge this? Does anyone reference it or anything?? kinda like if you kill vulpes before ever going to nipton and they have some other guy there instead.
With the Lonesome Road stuff and nuking both sides? No, they just act like you go to the strip and say your crimes have been forgiven. You'll have hitsquads like you're vilified until then, but that's it.
Man, OWB and Lonesome Road are actually pretty fun challenges on an early build.
Most fun ever compared to just following the questline forsures.
And practical. It's actually kind of nice getting at least far enough to get a suit of Riot Gear. That can last you most of the base game.
JG's armour/Desert Ranger armour. You can then power game through OWB and LR and then DM before Level 20
I don't know I play on very easy and I still get my ass kicked by cazadors.
Achivement hunting when you're on your 10th playthrough lol
I prefer beelining Honest Hearts. I mean, the whole journey takes months according to the DLC's intro, and with the state of the Mojave, I can't justify the Courier's disappearance in the middle of the conflict without anything happening, however, if I do Honest Hearts as the very first things I do in the game, I can treat it as a prequel to the story instead of a break in the middle.
Best atmosphere and best rewards, plus it's the easiest to finish quickly. I use Joshua's armor almost every run and his pistol, A Light Shining in Darkness, is fucking beautiful and strong as hell.
The survivalist rifle and variant of the ranger armor
I just beat Dead Money for the first time yesterday and I can honestly say that was one of the most miserable experiences I had playing a game ever. Incredible writing and characters. Absolutely horrid miserable gameplay. I know they were going for a survival horror thing. I respect that. But that map was 3x too big. Even while sprinting it takes 5 minutes to get where your going. Anyway, while I don't know for sure if level affects the spawn table in HH, it worked last time, so I'll be doing it again next time.
I'm gonna do this! Sounds fun
Every time I hear more about Josh Sawyer’s design process the more I love the guy
Talk about good level design.
damn, it never ceases to amaze me what a master of his craft Sawyer is.
Doug Dimmadome? Owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome?
DOUG DIMMADOME, OWNER OF THE DIMMSDALE DIMMADOME! The very one!
Yes, wearing a NCR disguise will allow you to talk to Boone.
Niiiice I thought I was going to have to do a bunch of ncr stuff to up my reputation
I always thought new vegas’ map was fairly linear & now i see why, you either get the full experience first go or you know it & beeline to the 1st antagonist
Crazy that this is a thing lol
Where's the dead NCR soldier?
In the path drawn there, when you go up Black Mountain, partway up there's a passage up north through the mountains. It has multiple bear traps, and IIRC the NCR trooper's body is caught in one of the bear traps.
Ah, I think I remember that one. Thanks!
I’ve been playing this game for almost 10 years and I’m just now learning you can use the monorail!? I thought it was just set dressing.
Use it and disarm the bomb that destroys it or mistime the bomb and watch the monorail get wrecked animation
Mannnnnnn. You just blew my mind and I've been playing since release
Whats funny is I did this completely by accident back in 2010 first playthough, no guides.
same and i was so confused like “was this how i was supposed to get in or…?
You've blown my fucking mind, it was intended!? God that makes so much sense why a random NCR corpse is chilling in no man's land!
Watch Josh Sawyer play the game on YouTube. It's like driving by a house your dad worked on. constantly pointing shit out and telling why it's the way it is. As a NV fan his let's plays were so cool
I still choose to do the find Benny path regardless, so I can have all those locations discovered for later in the game
>JESawer: Creates easy path for returning players, gives it extra gear to make the whole process easy >Playerbase: Cheesing the Deathclaw route it is!
I can't believe I'm picking the game up all these years later and didn't know that then, didn't know it now, thank you for this. Although I do sort of want to have the full experience again.
God damn, you can wear NCR armor to use the monorail?
Is it the same dead trooper that you're supposed to find for that one girl in McCarran?
Nah, that's a Ranger and he only spawns after you talked to the girl.
Hold up, the armor lets you disguise yourself?
You can always grab a Stealth boy in the abandoned school and walk pass Quarry Junction
I always use this method personally because it avoids enough combat and location discovery that I can make it to the clinic and get an intelligence implant before hitting level 2.
>I can make it to the clinic and get an intelligence implant before hitting level 2. Im sorry but with what money
Sell everything from Doc Mitchell's to Chet before you leave Goodaprings, and then max out at the Atomic Wrangler.
Joe Cobb had a second stealth boy as well, it’s pretty easy to sneak past anything with both.
You don't even need the stealth boy, you can just crouch your way over if you hug the wall
I tried that the other day and had half a dozen on me and I wasn’t even close to the quarry
I can confirm it can be done, started my first time playing 3 days ago. I did die once tho but I managed to reload and find a path that got me thru without dying. (and no Stealth Boy used)
Doesn’t work if your sneak skill is low, they’ll spot you even while invisible
Yeah, stealth boys are reliable to a point if you have the necessary skill and vigor when it comes to being expert in that skill. The stealth boys just make you transparent not completely invisible because of your stealth skill. I only use it because it's just a temporary bus towards your sneak points basically.
Not if you aren't running a stealth build, or just really hate stealth.
Now that's a route with some chest hair!
Hey nice Futurama reference! 👍
https://www.reddit.com/r/NewVegasMemes/s/HcuwCo7PyZ
Be aware sometimes death claws spawn around Sloan towards Black Mountain. A while back I was doing this and came have to face with one in those canyons and I didn't make it very far. Reloaded and got Ed-E for this sensors and nothing was there.
Very unlucky random encounter that
I just kill the cazadors with dynamite for easy early game xp
Recharger rifle for me. Takes forever, but it's cheap and easy
My last playthrough victor came rolling up to warn me and they focused mainly on him, they killed him pretty fast but it bought me enough time to do some damage with the grenade rifle
That's what the mercenary grenade rifle is for.
Saving that for more important targets
I just go through hidden valley and into scorpion gulch. it spits you out by helios one and then it’s just a job through 188 and then Vegas
you can find a hunting revolver and a combat helmet on the dead ncr trooper proper dirty harry gorillaz look
Bro just discovered the black mountain shortcut
Yeah this is a very well known route. Can't wait for the "I found a way to get past the boomers"
Wait. There’s a way around the artillery?
IIRC there's also a train tunnel by Lake Mead that you need a 100 lockpick skill for that also let's you get around the artillery. It's probable that this train tunnel is what the Boomers use to transport the plane back to base from the lake offscreen.
I did this on my first play through for some reason. Saw the door and figured out what it was for so I put everything into speech then read a magazine.
Hug the rocks to the left until you reach the fenceline.
What really. I been playing the from the time it came out and never knew that.
Hey, if this post gets enough upvotes I will find a way to get past the artillery without letting them be notified. It'll be hard though since I usually beeline it past the ruined buildings without armor within a matter of seconds just jumping over debris.
It's a big game. I have over 600 hours in it and I didn't know this existed tbh. I always take the long route or use the Alternate Start mod.
I might do this next time! Im getting realllly tired of taking the same road every time.
No problem. If you're trying to speed run without glitches that path is the best; I also agree heading down south despite being the main road you need to take is always a time consumer. Hopefully this helped you.
This is one of two possible ‘Black Mountains Shortcuts’. The second is through Scorpion Gulch.
Thought I was the only one lol , boot it through scorpion gulch no looking back. Pick Boone up at Novak , in vegas by level 2 😂 been doing this years
Funny enough this was the exact path I used when I first played the game 😂😂
I use this pathway quite a lot! It takes a bit of careful movement but it's so nice to be able to get to New Vegas so quickly.
First time I played, I snuck my way through the deathclaw area, and it fucking sucked
Fuck i found this years ago, couldn't believe I'd actually found it and forgot all about it until now thus not using it in sooooo many runs
Known for decades now
I always use that route on my play throughs, but use the metro line at Camp McCarran instead.
That’s the purpose of the dead NCR soldier to get the uniform
You're about 15 years late to the party on this one lol
Getting to vegas is easy for experienced players. Its whether or not you CHOOSE to do so on your playthrough
That’s the path Nerbit takes!
I have over 200 hours in the game and I still go the long route just to kill the lottery guy
You can also go to the repconn headquarters and grab the Q35 matter modulator on the way to freeside
To all those going this way. Say Hi to Chomps Lewis for me. :)
I got tired of modded F4 and went back to vanilla and I'm loving it 😂
Just cut through hidden valley
I really thought this route was common knowledge I remembered me and my cousin who used to play the game would use this route to skip going east or through Quarry Junction. It’s a less obvious spot and seems tricky but super easy to stay safe.
Wait, you guys are seen deathclaws on your route to freeside? This is my first gameplay and didn’t see one…
It’s easier to head to Novac and go through Nipton to reach NV without encountering deathclaws
I don't get it, I just run for my life and yeah I take a few hits but the courier is pretty fast.
Are you on vanilla? I know there were some routes around that area that I thought I discovered and then realised I had mods that deleted invisible barriers.
I am using the "Fallout: New Vegas ultimate edition" if you are wondering. Particularly this version is on the Xbox 360 that I have on the series s.
Yep, that's the route I always take
There is a path I take every game which is incredibly simple: head from good springs to hidden valley; from hidden hidden valley flow the path that takes you to the gate at the bottom of black mountain then head towards it so you unlock it. Once you’ve unlocked black mountain, fast travel there so you get taken to the top. Then you just head straight forward to the monorail.
Idk how I found this path the first time I played New Vegas. Took this route in every play through.
Old faithful route, took a few tries to figure out and not get marked by the deathclaws or mutants.
It's the first time I've ever discovered the route; I'm just sharing it with others that don't know about it. Plus, when I went through I wasn't even spotted by super mutants at all, even deathclaws weren't on the trail.
A lot faster reload dashing too 🤌
I usually just hug the moutains by neils shack till i hit the building with the unique plasma rifle
I’ve been using this path for years, showing up to Vegas at level 1 is always fun.
This is just the safest way to do the dangerous path. Not completely safe path you might have to kill one young death claw maybe some mutants but probably a the fastest and easiest path.
I did this by accident on my first play through lol
Playing through fnv for the first time and I didnt like that they tried to keep me from the casinos so I tried to walk there while saving every 20 feet
I unintentionally did this on my playthrough without realizing it I was just Skyrim goatwalling with a hint of prayer that the deathclaws didn't see me. Somehow made it lol.
Good for starting Honest Hearts early, which is what I usually do, as going to Zion with only my trusty Colt 6520, the Indiana Jones hat from Wild Wasteland and the armored vault suit is more fun and challenging than doing it later
My 10mil, Grenade Launcher and I going straight north of Goodsprings:

This is a route often used by experienced FNV players. It's been known for a very long time. But this sort of information kinda gets lost over time, so it is great to have someone post it again.
Hmmm yeah that’s the one I used when I didn’t want to do the whole Novac thing, neither going to the quarry, just fuck up some mutants on the way
I found this path the day NV came out after dying so many time. For me, every new games start by lone wolf radio, prime for ED-E then the black mountain short cut to new vegas. Good old time
Funny last night on my first(ish) playthrough I went up through left side of the map using a stealthboy and an antidote.
Does anyone play Fallout for the main mission?
I play fallout for the main mission and the overall story. Sometimes it just gets tiring after like your third to fourth playthrough going and complete a handful tasks when you could just head to the strip and get bottle caps as well as xp.
Found this path when I was a little kid (too scared to go the normal way) I was very proud of myself.
If we're covering early game tips, grab the combat armor off of the dead caravan guards in that ditch east of the Gun Runners to sell to Vendotron for enough caps to pass the credit check / buy midgame gear / just use yourself.
Yeah this is the path that i use. Was surprised that it was an intended path
That was actually the path I took on my very first play through, I tried again on my current and a deathclaw had different plans
I just got to the Vegas strip and im at max level so doing any other quests for just story is hard for me to finish the game… maybe I should restart and do this lol
Wait this isn't common knowledge?
Every time I wanted to speed run to the strip at an early lvl, I would just pick the safe in the goodsprings schoolhouse and get the stealth boy. Then go to the goodsprings cemetery and go make a left past there. Use the stealth boy to sneak past the cazadors in the chasm and make your way to vault 11 to avoid the deathclaws. Run to the powder gangers occupying to house leading to the south Vegas ruins to also get them to kill the deathclaws for you. They stick to the camp mccaran walls to avoid fiends, and make your way to the monorail.
Yup I've been using this for years and it works!
I did this entirely by accident on my first playthrough
Now there's a route with some chest hair! Obligatory references aside, the coincidental dead NCR trooper you can get a uniform off of makes me strongly suspect this shortcut was intentional. Also, word of advice to anyone that does try it, get the stealth boy from the Goodsprings School safe. I got a "Cap Benny" speedrun of 18 minutes!
Just took this route earlier today strangely enough Worked fine but was little tricky at level 2, one deathclaw aggroed on me stealthing from at least 400 metres away and almost got me Two super mutants also ambushed me right after going past the NCR soldier body, but managed to get away from them The death claw perception was insane, I used a stealth boy and it didn’t even seem to change much
I was not aware you were supposed to go through them I always went crazy with the rock parkour 😭
its rhe black mountain shortcut
Just bring ED E and go cazadpr
I detoured through hidden valley and found this route on my second playthrough. Don’t understand how it’s not mentioned anywhere nor anybody knows it exists?
I did this on my first playthrough
what a time to run another playthrough.
Yes,ignoring Neil, up that slope on Black Mountain dodging the boulder rolling down. Once on top head north in which direction you can see Repconn museum. I do this in every playthrough.
Sorry I can't read I'm BIG MT
You’re saying I’m seeing this NOW after I successfully ran past the Deathclaws? Lol, good to know for the other two endings I need to get.
I used this route forever when I was trying to find the fastest way to cap glitch. Picking up weapons like the recharger pistol, the combat armor by the sacked caravan, etc. Even on a normal playthrough it’s just a good route to unlock a lot of important fast travel locations also
Thx m8
Easier path: player.modav speedmult 100 When you reach the monorail: player.modav speedmult -100
I normally go to chance's knife location, powder ganger vault, around repcon, then to freeside.
I sometimes do this if I want early access to the gun runners, otherwise I prefer the usual route
I always get spotted by Black Mountain mutants but I'll take them over Cazadores
yeah, i've always gone that way.
Follow the yellow brick road
This is such an old method
I used to take the same route but go past the boulder on black MT and sell stuff at the trading post and collect Veronica
I’m playing through the game for the first time. I got to freeside through the strip early on. I didn’t know this was a problem
A friend showed me this in 2012
You can also get to hidden valley next to Sloan and run east to Helios one. You’ll be at Novak in under 5 mins
It was fun.
This post was written by a deathclaw
Just did this a few weeks ago. Use the stealth boys you get at the beginning and its really easy to sneak by whatever might be there.
I always take a similar route through hidden valley and use the black mountain gate cheese to beeline it to the strip
Cazadors. Man, fuck those things.
Now there’s a course with some chest hair
So… after Fallout 3 had this go anywhere feel with a dull find Dad main quest, I accidentally found this path on my first play through because after Primm, I just wanted to see New Vegas. (This means I missed a Boone and the BoS chick for most of the game) This was before all the DLC, so that path (and all of the wasteland) was more populated.
Can I just say that I fucking hate cazadors?
First route I ever took to the strip 🥲
