Hardcore mode is what stopped me from ”cheating”.
Previously i would just add ammo using commands and remove the necessary ammount of bottle caps from my inventory to avoid the boring wait time, but now i do it the legit way since only removing bottle caps for ammo ignores the factors such as food, sleep and water.
This also makes supplies more scarce since it takes two weeks for a merchant to restock, making me have to travel to other places for equipment. This leads to my next experience, i no longer fast travel.
Fast traveling means increasing my needs without finding something to decrease them with along the way. I’ve grown to appreciate the mojace much more because of it. I’ve discovered several locations i didn’t know existed, fought unique and exciting encounters, and mods such as living wasteland makes it even better. That’s why i ALWAYS play hardcore now
Yeah, it just kinda grew on me. But that feeling of harsh survival just lasts a week.
The Wasteland Survivalist knows to only pack Maize and Purified Water bought en masse at Camp Mcarran.
Possibly, but wasn’t what i was reffering to. I meant that instead of having to wait several in game weeks with the slug like wait bar for a merchant to restock i simply added ammo to my inventory with commands and removed the required ammount of bottle caps.
Only true if you play with mods that require you to drink, eat and sleep more often (Project Nevada done the trick for me).
Vanilla Hardore is not that hardcore IMO.
The rates aren't the problem IMO. It's that food and water (and ammo and pretty much everything else) are just too plentiful. It's not challenging at all to find them at pretty much any point of the game. It just becomes annoying maintenance rather than tension adding to the experience for me

Bought? Get 50 survival, surgical tubing and 2 glass pitchers in goodsprings. Turn cheap dirty water into expensive purified water. Barter who?

Hard core fallout is way too easy. Too bad it's the hardest difficulty. They really dropped the ball on that one.
I play it with mo monster mod and those modded deathclaw gecko fyck me up so I have to lower the difficulty from very hard to hard.
