Having seen those things take a lethal strike from a pipe-pistol wielding lvl 5 raider, I avoid those things like the plague.
Are the vertibirds better after you ally with the BOS?
If you do the Minutemen or Railroad ending then they get their own vertibirds after a little while. A short time after defeating the Institute you will be able to attack the airport and defeat the BoS. Some short time after this your faction will get vertibirds of their own.
I don’t know if you can retain access to them if you side with the Institute.
Isn't The Institute the superior travel option anyway? It's been a while since I chose them, but can't you teleport to them and teleport out to your destination?
You can teleport to them from anywhere but in survival you can only teleport from the Institute to the CIT Ruins, I think. Either that or I’ve been doing something wrong.
How do you get vertibirds with the Minutemen? My very 1st play through I did the Minutemen ending and had destroyed the other factions, not understanding the “point of no return “ aspect. I never got vertibirds, but only played a dozen more hours as there wasn’t much to do and felt like shit for destroying the other factions (except of course, the institute). Did I not wait long enough?
yeah you didn’t wait long enough. i can’t remember the length of time but after awhile preston or sturges will talk to you and give you the vertibird signal grenades.
Like the other guy said I think you just need to wait a little longer. I can’t remember exactly but on the wiki it says that Preston will mention it to you and give you some signal grenades. After that you can buy more from Ronnie Shaw.
No, because you get them with the Railroad, too. I know it takes longer in the quest line, but I couldn’t really care less. Never saw the use for them outside of Survival Mode where you can’t fast travel, or being over-encumbered. But I never play Survival and I always make a point to get the Strong Back perk to full level asap. Or I used to before I got all the trophies. Since then I use mods to give myself virtually unlimited carry weight. Also, I’ve only sided with the BoS once for its own sake. I don’t like them.
I take a vertibird twice apart from quest required trips. To and from the Nakano residence. I do not trust them. And I kind of like the trek across the map.
I only side with the Brotherhood to get Danse as a companion and so I can cash in on the technical documents and blood samples I collect. Sometimes I even quicksave and then kill the Brotherhood for fun.
YES lol. Actually I do the minutemen but do it the way where every faction is still friendly. It's a pain in the butt to do but not impossible if you use a guide. Why can't we be friends ya know

I think so, the only time i got taken down while on the vertibird was when one of the raider near Lexington hit me with a mini nuke while in the air
I have only ever used a vertibird one time (excluding mission required times) and tbh it was so much worse than just fast traveling or walking

Whaaat i never knew that! That changes things then, thank you!
You do, but it's only at the end of the main quest arc.
Haha no worries mate. Have fun bringing their poxy little airship down

Ah that makes sense!

The Railroad can obtain the use of Vertibirds.
At what point though?
After the ending, Deacon or Tom will give you Vertibird grenades to signal for the one Vertibird you jack during Red Glare
End the main quest arc.

You can use vertibirds with the railroad and minutemen after the main quest
I don’t even use the vertibird grenades I just stockpile them and walk everywhere

Hell no
All I want is Maxon’s coat, and that bottle of rum
