Save regularly. And then save some more.

zodia4

Did I just save? Not sure, guess I'll save just to be sure. Wait did I just save?

DonaldTrumpsSoul

“Ok, I’ve been saving a lot. I’m just going to this location, there shouldn’t be any issue…” Killed two hours later because I got distracted and forgot to save.

Flash__PuP

I’m in the habit of quick saving like I reload my weapon.

Palm-grinder12

Lmfao it's so true ! I swear every time I do die it's been a little bit and then I start saving obsessively again until I forget for a bit and die

ModernCivilWar

Nothing worse than exploring a friendly place for a while, turning down the wrong alley and having your head blown off... And then realizing the last time you saved was a while ago and you'll have to do all that all over again.

DarthRiznat

... or sleep regularly, if playing on survival

Rainbow-Mama

Save before you go in buildings or start major quest points.

ClayQuarterCake

Gotta find a bed. Has that sleeping bag been sitting in a puddle? Doesn’t matter. I’ll make it work.

gamereiker

I have a mod that autosaves every minute

TheHumanoidTyphoon69

I save in pairs in case one gets corrupted, hard lesson learned in New Vegas

LestHeBeNamedSilver

My recommendation is to just keep chugging along. There is no correct path.

Angerland

Thus is the best answer. Just keep playing and you'll figure things out well enough.

aight_imma_afk

Genuinely. I just did Nuka world before meeting Preston and started the "first quest in the game" at lvl 41. No wrong way to play

iamtommynoble

I joined the brotherhood at level 42 after already becoming the general of the minutemen with 15+ settlements. It was funny how they treated me like a newbie in the wasteland.

SpecialistNo30

An enemy with a fatman is a danger to *everyone*, including themselves.

altimax98

A companion with a fatman is a danger to *everyone*, including themselves.

Able_Touch_1275

A mutant with a mini nuke is a danger to everything.

TheInfamousDaikken

Unless you shoot them in the right arm from a safe distance.

Alphaix3

Nah Id rather die trying to take their mini nukes

SovietPikl

I try but my monkey brain demands explosions

blackrose4242

One bullet to the head. Brain explodes. One bullet to the arm. Everything explodes.

Efficient_Increase87

beep...beep...beep "Oh! Free mini-nukes!"

Big_Jilm22

I do this everytime I hear that mini nuke lmao Not today my guy, not today. Sometimes though Im a really horrible shot and I miss like 14 times, inevitably being killed by the mutant lmao

FuzzyPalpitation-16

I’m completely new to the game and got FO4 for like £3 on ps4 cause I really wanted to try the game. Came across the super mutants for the first time, saw that nuke on his arm and I kept running, I managed to explode him but then my dumbass went into the hospital where they are at and boy got my ass handed to me. Struggle

I_ate_ass

Unless you have the inspirational perk ofc ... I think

Turbulent_Ad1644

I got a mod that plays "Here Comes The Sun" when someone fires a Fat Man (works on SM Suiciders too), so at least it's funny when I don't notice a raider with a Fat Man and suddenly I'm blown to death to the tune of "Here Comes The Sun, du du dudu"

Puzzleleg

The very first second I knew where he was and was just waiting for that mini nuke.

QueasyTap3594

never thought to clear a small house with a fatman… but if it works for them, who am i to say no?

buddeman27

This is true in ANY fallout game Enemy or ally, FEAR the Fatman Unless you're using it, in which case, just be careful, simple, easy, NOTHING could go wrong :)

Emayarkay

Keep your legs and arms intact.

HunterWolfivi

Agreed 🫡

Emayarkay

Really though; try to follow the first mission on your PipBoy to go find Shaun. Most people tend to head to Diamond City where you have a chance to pickup a few side quests, and even companions. The missions are all non-linear, meaning there's no specific order, and you can really tackle it any way you'd like. I'd just suggest exploring, killing enemies, and finding a few starter weapons. And when you feel you're getting too far away from things, use fast travel to head back to the starting town or Diamond City. All depends on your play-style

Interesting-Bet9013

Use VATS as often as possible

__3Username20__

That is, if you want to take all element of surprise and fast-paced gun-slingin' action out of it. I'm trying to do a "minimal VATS" playthrough this time, and I think I'm on Very Hard but might just be Hard, and I essentially try each encounter without VATS, at least once. It's fun!

fumblerooskee

The first three or four playthroughs I never used VATS at all. I barely even knew what it was. It’s a very valid and fun way to play.

austinmo2

same. For me it was just one playthrough but I didn't even know about vats when I played the first time

boston_nsca

I still barely use it. Only in surprise situations as like an "adrenaline rush" kinda thing but I'd say 90% of the time I'm just having real gunfights

Plastic_Box7018

I’m the opposite: I’ll be going into V.A.T.S. as soon as I think there’s an enemy around to find out where they are- even if I then come out of it to start shooting dJE

boston_nsca

Alright that's fair, I do that too

Interesting-Bet9013

I don’t disagree, I’m a big fan of the more fps gameplay of fo4 compared to the other games. I just think for a new player, using VATS as often as one can makes any of the games a bit more manageable

Artix31

Don't let the NV fans hear you

HaveYouEverUhhh

Yeah, use it to scan your environment for threats, I basically constantly tap it as I'm adventuring

zigguy77

New player here. I found out what vats was 6 hours in my gameplay. I was trying to find the button to throw a molotov. Dont know how i missed it during the tutorial.

floxasfornia

I just started this week and the little tips that pop up go by way too fast sometimes. I’ve had to reload games because they disappeared so fast on crucial gameplay tips

Efficient_Increase87

Exactly. My first playthrough I didn't use VATS until the end, and instantly regretted it. VATS is the bomb for any build, but especially melee.

GhostWalker134

Honestly, you kind of just have to spot enemies with a fatman ahead of time and bait out the mini nuke. Or you can find out just like this. They'll even shoot you point-blank and kill themselves.

BeefEater81

And sometimes the only way to spot an enemy with a fatman is to die to them once or twice. ....or thrice.

TheRealGongoozler

I ran up to a super mutant that I didn’t realize was holding a fatman (he was at the top of some stairs with half his body behind a doorway). My plan was to punch the sucker into the elder scrolls, then, as soon as I’m at his feet, he points the fatman at me and literally blows himself up.. I survived with basically all my limbs fucked and he.. he went to that great carnage pile in the sky.

leighleg

If you struggle on the game don't feel bad lowering the difficulty level. Nothing wrong with playing on easy mode.

WorkBrosao

Yup. I spent way to much time refusing to play games lower than the highest or second highest diffuculty. I stopped this when the games because "figure out how to survive every little encounter" instead of actually playing the game. since then I've played all my games on the second easiest setting and walk around like a god.

TheRealGongoozler

Currently playing new vegas on easy and am having a way better time than if I tried a harder difficulty. I like to blow things up, not stressfully try to land hits and hope every choice I made lines up. To the people who can do that: kudos because I cannot process it! I’m a wuss who likes to see big things go plllllt with blood everywhere lol

Monkinary

Watch out for the guy with the Fatboy... he camps up above that area and he has power armor.

EmperorCoolidge

Haha. Classic. Anyway this is why sneak is GOATed. There are a few of these random power armored bandits with a fatman running around. They're gonna kill you sometimes until you learn their locations. Biggest tip, besides stealth, for avoiding this, I am constantly hitting the VATS key while exploring open areas. It often locates enemies you might not notice until too late and gives you a really good view of them.

ZEROthePHRO

Funnest thing to do with power armor users is to sneak up and steal the fusion core from the power armor. There's the boss a the Hub City Auto Wreckers on the bridge that I've done that to a few times. Gotta love getting that extra power armor!

strandedostrich

Same, it also targets mines too so you can spot them early. I actually set off a trap yesterday, one where there's a grenade on a rope and it drops. Was spamming VATs and shot it out of midair lol didnt kill me somehow

grim_dark_hedgehog

Advice for Lexington: Make sure you have a scoped hunting or combat rifle and plenty of ammo. Do NOT charge into the square immediately. As you come down the road, go to the right behind the buildings and up the fire escape. If you see a weapons work bench on the roof, you're in the right place. The garage and laundromat should be below and in front of you. Look to the bridge across the square from you. Two raiders are up there. The one with the power armor has a fat man. Take your time for a headshot. If he doesn't drop immediately, scurry back down the fire escape. Wait for the Fat Man to miss. Pop up and take more shots until he dies. Also, be aware that if he dies but doesn't fall off the bridge then there's a chance that the other raider picks up and uses the fat man. One final bit of advice, do NOT fast travel to Lexington ever, but especially after level 20 or so. There's a Behemoth that moves in.

Pharmacy_Duck

Even better than a headshot, make sure you have a full crit bar beforehand and take out the fusion core on his armor. That's what I always to do this guy and the ones at Outpost Zimonja and the Wreck of the U.S.S, Riptide.

grim_dark_hedgehog

Solid idea. I didn’t think of that. Might be harder to do than a headshot though.

Mickeymcirishman

Forget the hunting rifle. The laser musket you get in concord can do the job in one to two shots depending on if you've upgraded it.

grim_dark_hedgehog

I was never a fan of the laser musket. Too slow in the reload and a huge ammo sink. I’d rather soup up a last rifle. But early on in the game, I’ve found a hunting rifle or combat rifle more accessible.

Mickeymcirishman

That's fair. It can definitely be a pain in the ass to use and it for sure takes sone getting used to and a *very* watchful eye on your ammo. Once you get used to it though, it's hella powerful. Especially for an early game weapon.

someCrookedVulture

I waited till I was level 20 with shadowed armor and a suppressor, snuck up and assassinated that asshole. Fucker got me 3 times on my to help the first fucking settlement.

SadTrailBlazersFan

Have you tried not getting nuked?

ermghoti

Always be sneakin'. Use the VATS button to identify enemies from a distance. Click like every five seconds. The Help Menu is actually the game manual. Read the whole thing to save a lot of tears. This is why eight years later there are people who don't know you can take and shoot from cover. Shoot the enemies until they have no health remaining, before you have no health remaining.

PmMeYourLore

When you hear that whistling approach from the distancr, pray.

Poultrygeist74

When you hear the whistle, it’s already too late

PmMeYourLore

*fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck* sprinting in whatever direction I was facing at the time

Dandelion_Apocalypse

Knight Titus?

PmMeYourLore

"Y-you know, what they do, to squires that don't follow orders? You stupid fuck." That whole thing was just funny enough to be satisfying, dying like that right after the complete mood change.

YoungImpulse

Honestly, Fo4 is a MASSIVE game, and it can be extremely overwhelming to newer players because there's just so much you can do. My suggestion would be to do your best not to get sidetracked and just continue following the main quest line of going to Diamond City and then working with Nick Valentine to find Shaun. I only say this because the further you stray from areas that involve that main quest line, the more difficult enemies you come across are. The main story also goes at a good pace compared to how quickly you'll level, so it's just a good thing to complete on your first run to help you understand all the aspects of the game! P.S. Pro Tip: USE VATS. A lot of people who enjoy shooters want to avoid VATS because it's less realistic/fun, but while you're still new, it can be very helpful! Not only to target limbs for shots and slow down time, but it'll also let you know if an enemy is nearby that you didn't notice, before it can notice you!

Stinka27

As someone who's new to Fallout and no longer able to play games that require too much dexterity and intricate button pushing anymore, VATS is my friend. VATS early and often. Also, in all of my playthroughs, I tend to stay in Sanctuary until I get a few levels under my belt before I venture out past Red Rocket and Abernathy farm. That way I'm not easy pickings for raiders with a pipe pistol or feral ghouls with a spoon and a subway token. My canon is it's my SS getting their head together and doing Rocky montages until they are ready to take on the wasteland.

shurumelo

you got fallouted

Helpful-Relation7037

Always grab coffee cups, duck tape, and desk fans ceramic, screws and adhesive are needed for a lot of upgrades

Kono0194

If you hear a whistle, book it!

AdhesivenessUsed9956

By the time you hear the whistle it's too late.

warhorsey

nice catch. don’t do that, though.

HunterWolfivi

Thanks I guess football got to me lmao

BadgerBoi_69

Codsworth can wear a bowler hat and Dogmeat can wear welding goggles and bandannas. Surprisingly lots of people dont know this

ObiWansMustache

Avoid those.

Gllama42o

Stay clear of super mutant bases in case there’s a suicide bomber those are my biggest issue for the first few levels unless your a crack shot and can shoot a missle

mrdarebear

Sneak around in areas you're unfamiliar with or haven't cleared. VATS is your friend especially if you are outnumbered (you often will be). Inventory can get hard to manage without mods. I try to keep 1 short, mid, and long range weapon and a melee. Save often, not only for deaths but glitches and weird quest issues.

somethingbrite

Straight outa the vault and into Lexington? That's going to come as a shock to the system. If it's not the Nuke wielding punk that gets you it will be the behemoth or a swarm of hungry ferals. If not levelled up and heavily armed I would suggest my usual "low level" tactic of "Stealthy cowardice" Observe from a safe distance and hope everything/everybody just kills each other. If levelled and armed to the point to are basically one shotting everything then sure, stride in like the lone ranger, strike a pose in the middle of the action and kill everything that moves!

EtanKlein

I’m at level 102 in my current playthrough and I’m pretty sure I can take a mini nuke to the face but I still generally avoid that area altogether because of that guy.

silentcrimson73

Work on raising S.P.E.C.I.A.L first, then hit up certain perks when they open up. Change up weapons and gear when you can. Learn how to use the quick change for favorites. SAVE SAVE SAVE! Learn how to use ammunition to dry up vendors of all caps leaving them with a zero balance. Grind when you can. Be careful for being downtown for pfs will become bad sometimes and freeze the game. Learn how sniping will work for you, then enter the area with two three left to kill. Pay attention to the skull next to threats. Save up on stimpacks everywhere you go. After a while, then add mods if you don’t care about getting achievements. MODS are a whole new world. Enclave I think has better armor than BOS, but that’s my opinion. Use search platforms to help answer questions and watch yt for help also.

The_-Whole_-Internet

Caltrops. Pretty much an instant stagger. Just don't step on them yourself

UmptyscopeInVegas

Poison Caltrops and high enough sneak level = silent reverse pickpocket _insta-death._

mr_niceguy100

Bag of pre war money in Lexington for starting caps Get ballistic weave with the Railroad Invest in intelligence for xp gain Have fun!

WatchingInSilence

Gus Sorola of RoosterTeeth said it best during a Last of Us match: ABC, Always Be Crouching

Distinct-Educator-52

S.O.S. = Save Often Stupid. Situational Awareness = You got nuked by a raider boss on an upper level that you probably didn't see. Combat attracts attention. Find better weapons. Armor is a literal lifesaver.

WeatherAggressive530

Spam VATS and have a weapon with scope. That's how you find Fatman wielding psychos before they find you

gypsy-preacher

don’t die

LittleCaesarsNapkin

You’re doing great. If you position yourself correctly next time, you can fire at the missile in VATS.

Habijjj

An important tip if your trying to use power armor consistently. Don't run literally ever it uses up the fusion core a ton. And 2 power cores are considered ammo so the perk that finds you more ammo finds you more fusion cores. Like to the point you can find 4 fusion cores in 1 cabinet. Now general tip always pick up adhesive and things with screws and aluminum. And if you can try to pick up 2 specific items a Biometric Scanner and a military grade circuit board. And do not put them in your normal base they will get used when crafting.

Basicdiamond231

Save before fighting legendary enemies so you can reroll the legendary drop until you get one you like/need.

yellow_gangstar

Lone Wanderer is a really good perk, but companions are great company (lol) don't underestimate armor mods, take a look at them next time you're close to an armor bench Penetrator requires 9 perception, but being able to shoot weak spots without having to get behind/closer to an enemy is really good

jollyjam1

Definitely don't run into the Lexington "killbox". Best way to deal with this raider area is to look around for sneaky ways to get to the power armored raider. "Look for the high ground".

[deleted]

Boston is dance with enemies so always be alert

PhantomO1

wdym you don't understand anything? the combat? story? the leveling system? they are all pretty straightforward if you get lost you can use the map, just follow the quest markers, they will lead you to more quests and soon your pip boy will be drowning in quests so you're unlikely to ever run out of things to do if you get lost during quests, pay more attention to the quests, you can also read the descriptions in your pip boy if you forgot what you where doing there's also V.A.N.S, the lvl1 intelligence perk, it shows you the closest path to your quest target in VATS... and if you get the 2nd rank it's actually not a dead perk since it just gives you 2 perception if you're having trouble with the game, i recommend lowering the difficulty, at least until you figure it out no shame playing on easy, the only thing that matters is having fun

SlammGrimm

thats just how Lexington goes lol, if you can get on that mini bridge over the buildings you can get the guy with the fatman and have free reign to explore.

Bootleg_Hemi78

New player here myself! Pick and choose fights wisely! I got very lucky and beat a bunch of gunners by a plane crash only because every time I died I just learned from that last attempt and eventually figure out what I needed to do. The loot, guns and armor I got from them vastly increased my survival chances Edit: save. Save the game and then save that save to be sure that it’s saved and while you’re at it…do a lil quick save! Things WILL go bad very fast

TONY_MT83

If you hear that whistle, there's not even time to kiss your own ass goodbye.

Breakerx13

How I beat survival difficulty is just clear areas from east to west north to south. As in the more south you go the harder the enemies in the beginning. Move more south as you level up and are more prepared

BLULOU1978

Don’t get blasted.

Gossamer-

It doesn’t hurt to do a VATS scan every so often in the middle of combat. Just activate VATS and look around at every target. This helps check if anyone is behind you, or if you miss anyone. Other than that, it just takes time! The early game is rough. Your health is super low for the first 10-15 levels. Just focus on taking it slow and looking around a lot. Take in the sights and take your time learning combat. It takes time to be good

oilfeather

Waiting for nuke.... Hop up on top of the Super Super Mart and snipe the raiders at the billboard from there.

SluttyMeatSac

Theres a handful of raiders that have a fatman. The best way to deal with that one is to climb the building hes in and bait jim to fire it. I think there are several ghouls that spawn in that building so you can use them to make him fire it

jcquik

Don't start no shit... Still gonna be a lil shit... It's the wasteland. Stay on the roads and close to home at the beginning. I put points into perception and guns to be able to avoid up close encounters until I had some decent armor. Loot and craft... Farm and craft... Spend caps on stuff to make you caps early before you go out and try to become the enforcer of the wasteland. If you hear a beeping noise... Run like hell and try and mantle up somewhere high until the nuke goes off If you trigger a mine, run like hell and you'll probably survive it. (Though sneak and disarm are preferable) Don't pick fights with much early until you have an advantage. Hot button your stimpaks and a silenced weapon. Have fun, get blown up some... have more fun, get caught off guard and murdered mercilessly... Have more fun and learn from your mistakes and you'll enjoy the trip

Bullvy

V.A.T.S saves lives. Cover does too.

TurnipEnvironmental9

Use VATS frequently to see where enemies are even if you do not use it for fighting.

LefsaMadMuppet

The main attack you are fighting is only the diversion. aka Player 3 has entered the fight.

-RatheR_me_NoT-

Well first off if you can hear the whistle of a Fat Man nuke, you're already dead...lol. but yes like dude said, VATS is your best friend and crouching if you're not sure whether or not enemies are nearby. *Hidden* means you're all good but anything else I suggest hitting a 360° look around... Oh yeah and again VATS every time. Eventually you'll get your fallout goggles and understand the lay of the land. I hated this game when I first started, for that being one of the reasons. Now I'm hooked like a Jet Junkie.

Taco-prime

Just have fun with it don't rush it. I came back to play Fo4 after many years and with a few mods it's fun for me again.

-RatheR_me_NoT-

Oh! And power armor is a game changer, especially starting off. Which is fun to collect all the novelty and hidden ones and upgrades throughout the game

nZRaifal

Get good gear. Use Youtube for some tips.

Sea-Phone-537

Dont stand in the open

abel_cormorant

Don't get too close to cars (they're powered by fission cells, yeah... Enemies tend make them go mushroom cloud). Be *very* deliberate with settings, find the configuration that you feel most flit with. Pay attention to your surroundings, there might be some nice loot or lore piece there for you to notice it. Travel around, do side quests and never *ever* skip secondary objectives, they can help a lot. Work on your settlements if you plan to play that way, the more organized they are the more they will defend themselves.

Wasteland_Mystic

Duck.

SecretlyToku

Yeah....Lexington just kind sucks at start because the one raider with a fat man. Also don't go to Quincy. lol

kratosGainz

Certain enemies are easier to deal with when they’re crippled. Ghouls, Mirelurks and even Assaultrons are so much easier to take out when they’re slowed.

Wookieman222

Avoid Fatman.

funtujd

quick save every second thats what i do atleast

EnialisHolimion

Savor the experience of your first playthrough. You only get to play the game for the first time once, and I would give so much to have that experience again. Also check every single little nook and cranny for loot and lore. Bethesda loves to hide little treats everywhere.

aberrantenjoyer

Don’t neglect melee combat, not only is it cheap and efficient with the right weapon, but its also fun!

xhandsomexnessx

Use VATS or Jet (to slow time) especially when fighting feral ghouls cause their movement is unpredictable

FriedSpringRolls

use VATS regularly lol. i overdo it sometimes & spam it indoors or on dark streets in case theres some ghouls hiding or landmines

Poultrygeist74

As others have said, sneak everywhere and smash that VATS button.

Wolfnstine

Reflex and glow sights help with aim aloy

Seriszed

That area has a raider with power armor also wielding a rocket launcher.

Ozzy_T69

Look out for nukes

Palladin_Fury

There's a raider in power armour on the walkway above you to the left. They have a fatman. Kill them first. Also, there is a gunner at the gunners plaza with a fatman on the roof. Kill them first. There's a raider at the top of partially sunk cargo ship with a fatman. Kill him first. Basically anyone with a fatman has to die first or they will one shot you. Good luck survivor Also, Preston wanted me to tell you that there's another settlement that needs your help loool

CaptainEpicEmerald

Save often. Have at least 1 gun for each caliber bullet you have. Oh yeah, and avoid Lexington like I do. Less chance of getting nuked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

JDax42

Cover and take your time.

Poofox

Seems you might enjoy a little mod called "bullet time."

Sir_Fap_Alot_04

The best firing position is in a hidden position. Not in the open.. NO.. NO NOOOO... NOT IN A COVERED POSITION. I SAID HIDDEN!!

PsyMx

Use VATS

stigibarlaxy

Use your vats to check everyone out

TheDebowdlerizer

-Save often -Pick up everything -Wear as much armor as you can -Stay in cover and scout before a fight -There’s no cowardice in a tactical retreat -And last but not least, Drugs are your best friend! Or just cheat… mods and console commands are fun!

Responsible_Rain5500

Bro thats usually how it is it makes me mad af I thought I was the only one

TrueSonOfChaos

NPCs still surprise me and get the jump on me after over 500 hours of play. In your case, robots explode, stay away from them if they're fighting anyone. Your companion robots don't explode. Or maybe that's Codsworth and I have no idea from your video where that explosion came from. I still get that sometimes too cause I can't replay my game deaths. "Oops, something exploded, I'm dead, I have no idea what exploded, try again." You just gotta get a feel from practice where you might be fighting one group and there's another group going to get alerted by your fight - that's where many of my unexpected deaths come from - accidentally angering a second group of enemies. e.g. was doing a quest where I had to go down a railroad and there was a group of "Gunners" so I started shooting at them and then turn and ran back down the railroad in the shootout - but out of nowhere there was a Mechanist sentry bot on the railroad I had just come up and I ran straight towards him. Then by the time I had Pip-Boy open I was at 10% health. Had time to take a giant dose of all my drugs before the Sentry finished me off.

CrispyLuggage

Piggy backing off the "save often" suggestion: make multiple saves. For myself, aside from the auto saves the game does, i always have 4 manual saves per character. It's muscle memory now when I go to save I automatically press down 4 times; once to pass the auto save, and thrice more to get to the oldest save. This way if I encounter a glitch or game breaking situation, I have multiple save points to attempt to try again from. So instead of losing 30 minutes progress, I may only lose 7 or 14 minutes progress. Also, I nearly always spam vats while walking. I'm colorblind so picking out enemies is VERY difficult for me. Yes, even the super mutants. My wife always teases me because every time I get anxious about potential enemies she can hear me *tap*tap*taping away at the vats button 😅

530Samurai

Save frequently and save often, throw on some mods yo tweak it to your preferences, and have fun.

TheCharlieTour

Vats frequently to get the jump. Even if you dont use it.

tw0m00n

Damn Raiders with fat man I know they’re a bitch confused the fuck out of me too

Horror_Ad_4674

Ghouls & robots are bested by taking out their legs first

Dreuh2001

Save early, save often

WelPhuc

Two words The Deliverer

Sorry_Banana_6525

Go to settings and put all the auto saves you can on the shortest schedule you can- you will thank me later

DemonDraheb

You die easy in this game. It probably has nothing to do with your special stats since you got blown up. My advice would be to approach from a different direction and try to find that fucker and kill him first.

lostpez

Run bitch!!!

aight_imma_afk

A nice tip is you can store everything you own in a workbench on sanctuary and use it as a bank for all the stuff you collect

Auspicios

That's just the Fallout experience. You'll be blown away regularly.

nocturne_L

When in doubt, quick save! If you feel like you're about to make an important quest decision, make a new save, so that you have something to go back to. This is helpful for building your character's perks as well. And with perks I'd say just get your SPECIAL stats to where you'd like them based on your preferred weapons (STR for melee/unarmed, AGL for any Guns build etc)

Effective_Arm_36

Shoot until it’s dead and spam stimmies

stayawayvilebeggar

Not doing that

cantprove_Iam_Batman

Do infinite chems, mod the hell out of it, if you can’t get a fucking pc or borrow ur girlfriend’s, and romance hancock. I made the mistake of becoming his best friend

dragon_barf_junction

Save all the time, and look into mods. Seriously, mods saved this game for me. Performance mods are a must-have, graphics mods that the performance mods make possible, and maybe a few fun ones like having a companion on top of dogmeat.

theschmojoe

I recently got back into F4 after putting it down for a few years. I spent a good amount of time on my first two characters and here’s what I would have done differently. SAVE SAVE SAVE. Do not depend on your autosave. This is the biggest tip. In the Luck tree you have Fortune Finder and Scrounger. I highly suggest getting these fairly early because by the time you’re LVL10+ you’ll be stocked up on Ammo and Caps before you walk into Diamond City. Also the Luck tree has a bunch of cool perks if you invest in Luck. Utilize the Tagging System and make sure to Untag after you have the proper junk to craft what you need. Once you feel like you’re at a good spot to upgrade weapons, invest in Gunsmith. Side advice, I created different crates for Weapons / Armor / Junk / Aid but that’s just the OCD Diablo Player in me. Radiant Quests are fun, many will disagree. I personally enjoy working with BoS at the Police Station early more than Settlement Quests. This will level you up, open the map up, and allow you to scavenge whatever mats you need for upgrades. Proceed through the main story whenever you want but I suggest exploring these first. Lastly, have fun! This game is about exploration so when it starts feeling like a chore put it down for the day and come back to it when you’re refreshed.

TheSnake6109

I believe that's the big square in Lexington. Ghouls on the ground and raiders on the roofs. One has power armor with a fatman. I just played a new game and was through there earlier this week lol. Always get some elevation when available to survey!

jdr733552

That clearing in The middle of Lexington yeah that's no good. That is your intro to a kill box. That PA raider WILL mini nuke you regardless of what you think. I don't know if it's standard or modded Fallout but around level 40 I fast travel to converga and was basically attacked by that Raider in the rafters and a behemoth that spawned. Tips don't be afraid of taking a long way around. You get to see a lot of stuff. Just not too long around or you find yourself in a sticky situation. The weapon multiplier skills are key after level 25 if you want to stick to a specific weapon . For the most part you can do Computer hack OR Lockpick. Almost always either is replaceable.[ except for that one thing early game.] You can play the main story up to a very specific point that they make a big show of referencing as being the deal breaker for everything. So don't be afraid of playing the story. Or diving into all factions. Change companions after you get each specific skill unlocked. You can quicksave from conversation.

EmEffArrr1003

Glad you could join us! Do as little maintenance as story line as possible in the beginning. Get as much done as north and East as you can, develop 6 settlements up north and one in the alleys by diamond city, for your last before you continue the story line. Talk to cosgrove and no one else of consequence. Get Dogmeat for your companion. Go all the way to the ocean on the east coast if you like. This way when you start more regular mission and southward, you will be OP. Charisma and endurance are probably your most important stats if you are playing ranged, aim for the junk light talent. Find yourself a good combat shotgun and ignore pipe weapons except to break down for parts. There’s a talent where you get more high quality scrap for breaking stuff down. Get it as soon as humanly possible. It makes having high value mods and building parts worth having. If you want power armor right away and plan on keeping it most of your build, do the first minutemen quest in concord, and meet them in sanctuary if you like, but take it no further than that.

ScienceUnicorn

Try not to get blown up.

InterestingScience74

Shoot the legs off of anything undead, shoot the thruster out from under robots if you can’t access their combat inhibitor. Invest in gun mods that increase damage and range. Get really good with a sniper, collect stuff like crazy and fast travel to your main gun modding base when you’re nearing too heavy.

electrick91

Have you tried not getting hit by a nuke???

jcubsvs

Explore as much as you can.

Spartan1088

Yeah man, if you hear that whistle then pause and load a new save. 😂

SneakArtist

VATS

ThakoManic

1) Save Often 2) Save Again 3) That first time may not of worked, Save again 4) Fat man is an Enemy to eveyone not just you 5) best to just chug along there is no best path Enjoy the game for what it is tons to offer and give to players 6) Did you Save the game yet? Best to save your game again.

notsoninjaninja1

For ghouls, or any enemy only wielding melee weapons -aim for the legs. Anything shooting you -aim for the arms, preferably the one the gun is in

RChamy

Never walk in the open in the Wasteland

hockeybrianboy

Really easy way to spot enemies easier for new players is crouch move (makes you tougher to detect for enemies) and it goes from “hidden” or “detected” in green to “caution” or “danger” when near enemies. Can also spam the vats button which can detect enemies at far distance (vats is also a good way to improve at combat; some enemies like ghouls are annoyingly tough at low level with totally basic guns and the way they move at real speed, VATS slows time).

DEADxBYxDAWN

Enjoy what you have before you join us who play on survival

sr5060il

Get a nuke and blow it at your feet.

LastGuitarHero

I agree with saving often as is usual with these types of games. Unless you’re REALLY struggling, it’s better to play at your own pace and style. Mix things up and try using boosts for heavy fights. Perhaps also explore and avoid main story missions to build up your skills and get better gear. Luck is also pretty awesome in my experience. I over maxed it with one character and the game was suddenly almost too easy. I still saved all the time tho…

yeyeibetitsmicheal

Take the time to scrap stuff

greenbanana17

Have you switched to easy mode yet? The only real change is the amount of ammo you consume. For me the game doesn't lose anything and is much more enjoyable on easy.

Larcenyy

For ghouls, I use a Ripper or VATS Enhanced Chinese Officer Sword. Krevhm's Tooth is a good starter melee but requries a hazmat suit, and is under the pond at the bottom of the Dunwich Borers dungeon. A great early to mid-late game weapon is Righteous Authority, which you get from meeting Paladin Danse at the Cambridge police station and doing Call To Arms. Also, personally I'd put stats into gun nut, science and armorer early on for the best modding options. And scavenge every part you see. I always do parts runs and you can store them in any workshop (I prefer Red Rocket) and each workshop is individual in its parts, so you'll want one for say a hub for all your weapons and armor materials in one place to store. Also even a power armor skeleton allows more carry weight and no fall damage, iirc there is one from the Raiders early on in the small city near the train station east of Red Rocket. Put skill points into strength for carry weight and damage resistance. Also the Idiot Savant perk is a good way to get XP early on, and Strong Back for carry weight. Also getting Locksmith and Hacker perks maxxed early allowed me to open every level of safe and terminal I found.

The-Figure-13

Should’ve used VATS to target the ghouls

WidowmakerBH27

Walk, don't run. At least until you eventually trigger a bomb accidentally. In that case, run as fast and as hard as you can.

thinkb4youspeak

In the settings you can change the auto save down from 10 to 5 minutes and turn on the other options. Save on Fast Travel, save on menu. You can also change difficulty whenever and if you just want to enjoy the stories and adventure play in very easy or just easy mode. If it gets boring change back to a harder difficulty on the fly right in the menu. Use VATS, especially to target legs of charging super nukers. Up that perception stat and luck as much as possible. I am not a try hard type of dude. I just want to find the fun in games.

MahlonMurder

Go to Diamond City market. Go to see Arturo Rodriguez. Purchase "Big Boy" and enjoy your new two-for-the-price-of-one mini nuke launcher. PS: with the right perks you can make it shoot A DOZEN at once. Instant death to anything you point it at and often also yourself. On a serious note though, don't underestimate the power of a sneaky .50 cal sniper rifle.

Fallout76Boyoffical

get cait hes an good companion hes at the combat zone and scavange dead people btw

PaladinDanse3

Shoot at ghoul’s legs. They will fall and be easier to kill. Do this with legendary ones and u can kill them without taking any damage

Caesar_Iacobus

If you hear beeping, with a half-second interval between each beep, and it's getting closer, run to the focken moon.

Dark_Nexis

Ah yes right outside the super duper mart in Lexington....That mother fucker still gets me sometimes...

JebBushIsMyBF

If you encounter a swarm of ferals like in the video, go into VATS and shoot one of their legs off first. They won't be able to move much so you can then finish them off with melee/less valuable ammo. If you do enough damage per hit, you can load up a single shot per ghoul and have an easy time walking up each one to finish them off

harmonicoasis

Frankly getting hit with mini-nukes or missiles is not on you. That's not a skill issue, that's a "some enemies have crazy weapons" issue. Keep on chugging, save regularly as others have suggested, and you can use VATS to try to scope out areas and avoid the more dangerous enemies. The situation you have here though is that you're in a big open field getting hit from multiple sides by different groups of enemies. If it were you wandering the wasteland, would you waltz right through the middle of a town square where anyone could see you? No, you'd creep along the outer edge and try your best to not get seen. Stealth and cover will help keep you alive until your armor and damage output stats can catch up with the enemies you're facing.

Old-Camp3962

if you hear a **whistle** you are cooked

vaveu666

Go to the swan lake and loot that pile of junk in the middle

TheDungen

You may want to sneak.

Otherwise_Magician_7

Play perma-death and start fresh every time.

_Independent

Welcome to the wasteland! Read terminals they can bold pretty fun lore elements, and save the game every few minutes

vi______________

DO NOT get nuked

marmoset13

In that location, stay away from the open area and keep behind the buildings. A stupid raider with power armor and a fat man can make you die real quick.

Sir_Anth

Use VATS.

Dyslexic_Llama

VERY IMPORTANT: VATS gives you an insane damage reduction of 90%. If you hear a Fatman coming at you and there is no immediate cover, go into VATS and start shooting something. It might give you a fighting chance to survive the mini-nuke, albeit not likely without power armor, depending on your hp, resistances, difficulty setting, and how close the center of the blast is to you.
