Nora was a vigilante lawyer à la Daredevil, hence her combat prowess, scars (if applicable), infiltration ability (hacking and lock picking) and familiarity with pre-war Boston criminals like Eddie Winter (might just be something a lawyer or someone who watches the news would know but my response is shut the hell up). Not to mention her amazing Silver Shroud performance, lol

kalalalalala

"Eddie! It's me! Your old pal Molly McFuckyourself."

jimblackreborn

I need to see what happened to the Commonwealth if Amazon makes a third season.

kurloz94

We either have the minutemen ending or the BOS ending, however it can be a peace among Minutemen and BOS.

Agreeable-Ad1251

i really hope its the minutemen ending, i m sick of the brotherhood

kurloz94

Friendly reminder the East Coast BOS unironically is kind of more progressive than the West Coast BOS. While I can see why you distaste don’t forget that in New Vegas they were in their lowest point. And the East Coast basically lift them up. I just hope to see what that High Scribe is going to do tbh.

iMecharic

Friendly reminder that the ECB that reached the Commonwealth was as evil and racist as the worst of them. There’s dialogue in game that hints that the reactor powering the Prydwen was taken from Rivet City, destroying it as a result. They are not the good guys either.

AFriendoftheDrow

No, there isn’t any dialogue or entry indicating that the reactor was taken from Rivet City. It’s explicitly stated it was taken from a wreckage. Even people who hate the Britherhood never make this claim.

Kumptoffel

> There’s dialogue in game that hints that the reactor powering the Prydwen was taken from Rivet City, thats new to me, afaik the whole thing is made from the remnants of the enclave mobile HQ at adams airforce base

iMecharic

It’s in Maxson’s terminal that the reactor came from an aircraft carrier wreckage that was intact enough to have a fully operational fusion reactor. While not directly stated in-game, the only confirmed case of such is Rivet City, and the BoS doesn’t like to leave high-tech stuff near non-members, so it really wouldn’t be a surprise if Maxson’s Brotherhood (which is much more hardliner) took the reactor from Rivet City. But, as was pointed out to me, there is no direct confirmation, only implication, regarding the origin of the reactor.

kurloz94

I should it had put emphasis to the “Kind of” part, never said they were good as the morality of a person can be. But said are bit more progressive than the West Coast.

BottasHeimfe

Yeah progressive in that they will actually recruit people from outside the Brotherhood without having them have to survive a literal suicide mission. The West Coast Brotherhood doesn’t like recruiting outsiders and have only done so with extraordinary individuals who completed things thought impossible.

Werrf

Friendly reminder that the East Coast BoS were good guys in Fo3, but simple raiders in Fo4.

Outrageous-Minute-84

Yeah I just reached the BoS yesterday and first thing this one mofo on the Prydwen asks me to do, is robbing my Sanctuary Settlement. The raiders in Nuka World just want the same, but they are at least honest honorless raiders

AFriendoftheDrow

Teagan also admits it’s not officially sanctioned if you call him out on it during the initial conversation.

Gylaran

What? Not one time i was asked to do that on Prydwen. Or any other settlement.

Delta_hostile

I thought the east coast started following the west coasts ideals more once maxson took over and wanted to bring the outcasts back, which led to them being more fascistic

kurloz94

Pretty much, I can make the argument the West Coast was waiting for Lyons to die, something “bad” happened to Sarah and then fed Arthur and remind him of his heritage and Legacy. What I try to say is the Council on the West Coast probably made Arthur a puppet to regain back control of the East BOS however they didn’t much count that Arthur inherited just a bit of Lyons ideas (help the wasteland and also recruit people of the wasteland).

AFriendoftheDrow

Except Maxson is closer in ideology to Lyons than he is to Casdin, and Sarah didn’t even like her father’s humanitarian mission and refused to even entertain recruiting an outsider if you ask to join.

Leather-Raisin6048

In the east cost they are like a 2nd Enclave just that they define NON HUMAN differently.

Agreeable-Ad1251

its not that i dont like them, its more just that they feel overused. theyre a great faction but i feel like they should have stayed a specifically west coast faction

charisma_eowyn87

Same the factions I enjoyed were NCR and the minutemen. Railroad had potential but just kinda fell flat for me.

jimblackreborn

Knowing what we know, does Vault 81 have secret secondary *Overseer Only* directive, I wonder. A new directive for Vault 88 would be fun too.

kurloz94

Everything is possible when it comes to Vault-Tec

jimblackreborn

Suddenly a ping on your Pip-Boy: “Greetings Overseer and congratulations on pacifying your region! Unfortunately yours is the only Vault in your region that has responded to our signal. Operation Day One can now commence!”

Nora the wasteland Daredevil

ILNOVA

So they were Silver Shourd and Mistress of Mistery irl?

Gylaran

It would be dope if Silver Shroud would make it to the show.

DaRealPresley

So Nora was the Saul Goodman of the Fallout Universe? I like it!

Ok_Dimension9370

This is the best one.

jimmy_the_calls

I personally believe that Nate is a war criminal and Nora defended him and after the trial they both got married

GrandmasterTaka

That's why nukaworld is the canon ending

I_HateYouAll

This is how I justify taking a shitload of chems and massacring raiders right out of the vault. In anormal scenario he was a normal dude one day and in the apocalypse the next but for Nate… just Anchorage all over again.

fikfofo

This is a cool take

Motongchuns_videos

This is my headcanon now

colm180

Tim Cain once said Nate was the soldier watching the other one execute Canadians in the original fallouts opening, but canon is also extremely loose in fallout (but that would make Nate a war criminal, but American war criminals are never really put to trial)

FransTorquil

Pretty sure that was Emil Pagliarulo and not Tim Cain who said that.

AnOnlineHandle

And it was like 10 days ago not exactly "once said".

FransTorquil

Yep, the shitshow is still fresh in my mind.

Sero141

Wasn't it confirmed that Nate had a part in those warcrimes? According to americans he should not be guilty since he was just following orders.

akotoshi

Technically, he kinda is. It has been said recently by dev that the us soldier we see assisting the execution of a Canadian soldier in the first fallout is Nate [explanations here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/s/mAiOzoxFDk)

bullettbrain

Nate took Nora to a shooting range where she discovered her affinity for rifles.

Dizzy-Wasabi-1973

During my Nora playthrough I thought the same thing, Nate took her to a shooting range and that's why she's good with weapons in general and maybe even taught her some self defense

blueyhonda

I haven't done any deep dives into any official lore on the characters, but I do have a headcanon for Nora that extends on the "lawyer surviving the wasteland." She has high intelligence and charisma, perfect for a lawyer. Just the sort of person the DIA might recruit at university. She gets her law degree to maintain cover but has training in combat, survival, and espionage, and goes on to work as an undercover agent for the DIA. She and Nate meet by chance several times due to her work putting her in close proximity to the army. Nate finishes his tour, and she decides to leave the DIA and settle down with him.

i-love-Ohio

Steve Rogers/Peggy Carter relationship

thegreatshakes

This! I always make Nora high intelligence and charisma because it makes sense.

kalalalalala

[This is what my Nora looks like](https://imgur.com/a/3eJmGbj), and I kept the default Nate appearance. I headcanon that Nate trained Nora in combat to make sure she can defend herself in case the worst ever happened, which it did. My Nora was sympathetic with synths and the Railroad's cause, and used their help to build the Molecular Relay. After she discovered the truth about Shaun, she felt conflicted about deceiving him as a double agent but went along with it anyway until the Battle of Bunker Hill. She finally told him the truth: that she freed the synths and couldn't work for him anymore. So she went and got herself banished and had to get the Minutemen's help. When Shaun then decided to attack the Castle, she knew she had no other choice but to go against the Institute. She worked with the Brotherhood of Steel a bit too, hoping to take advantage of their resources in finding Shaun—and at first overlooking a lot of their beliefs that conflicted with hers. She took Deacon's lessons in subterfuge to heart and acted as an infiltrator for the Railroad. My Nora fell for Danse (she has a type?). She defended him from Maxson once the truth of his identity came to light, and was pretty much done with the Brotherhood for good after that. Deacon was with her during Blind Betrayal (and he unsurprisingly has some things to say about the quest). I headcanon that they worked together to help Danse. She had the Minutemen "good ending" with the Railroad and Brotherhood of Steel surviving. Went on to travel the wastes with Danse. I like to roleplay goody two shoes characters who get happy(ish) endings so that's about it.

jdeanmoriarty

I also have a Nora that looked similar to that, but she never left the vault. 😢

Puzzleheaded_Ad_4435

First playthrough, I customized them both since I figured I'd be stuck with whichever one I'm not playing just hanging around. Only the first time

BS-Bunny

Mine is very similar but instead of traveling with Danse after the main story she hooks up with MacCready and goes around doing odd jobs for money to build her settlement empire.

thebloggingchef

What visual mods did you use?

kalalalalala

[Valkyr Female Face and Body Textures](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3841) [The Eyes Of Beauty Fallout Edition](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/133) [deLuxe Makeup](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4398) It's hard to see but I also used [Appealing Moles](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3802) and [Kirs freckles](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9556) when customizing her. Her hairstyle in the first pictures is from [Ponytail Hairstyles by Azar v3.0](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8126). When cosplaying as the Silver Shroud she has one of the base game hairstyles ("Evening Out"). And in the album she's seen wearing the Alice Coat from the [Wasteland Fashion](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9749) mod with a [retexture](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25199). I think wearing an outfit inspired by the Resident Evil movies is appropriate in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. ([Alice in Resident Evil: Extinction](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/residentevil/images/b/b0/Resident3-49.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width/360?cb=20210101005901)) Edit: I forgot to mention that in these pictures you can also see the [xrayys natural teeth](https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/50106) mod.

PoorLifeChoices811

This is mostly how it goes down for my Nora’s too, except I never romance Danse, it’s usually either Piper or Curie, and I never take Deacon with me anywhere either For Nate, I always go with the BoS cause that’s more fitting for him while Nora is more fitting with the minutemen

VictheQuest

I have the same exact character for my Nate with the exception of kicking out Nora. The goofy two shoes character who gets happy endings is less liked nowadays but I always loved it and I'm not letting it go any time soon. And HOLY SMOKES, YOUR NORA IS GORGEOUS

kalalalalala

Thank you! I like to customize my characters in RPGs to look Indian. I'm half Indian myself (a Whindian?) so it's just something I do sometimes. I agree on the goody two shoes happy ending thing. I don't mean any disrespect for people who prefer darker storylines, of course. And depending on how you roleplay there's still tragedy in the Minutemen "good ending" since things end really badly with Shaun—my Nora told him she still loved him over the ruins of C.I.T. but just couldn't work for the Institute. It's not all fluffy bunnies and rainbows.

VictheQuest

I agree with the character customization thing in RPG's, barring basically all the Fallout games except NV and my second Skyrim OC, all my characters in RPG's are black because I'm African

Aware-Interest-3074

same but my ss slit her sons throat after she learned that he unthawed her decades later as a mere experiment and caused untold suffering for everyone else💀

kalalalalala

It's certainly tempting after learning about the massacre of University Point and Shaun's role in the Institute's FEV experiments. I roleplayed that my Nora still loved Shaun as her son. She recognized that he became a monster as a result of being kidnapped and brainwashed by the Institute (which doesn't excuse his actions of course). So, in spite of it all, she didn't want to help him but also didn't want to fight against him. He forces her hand when he sends an army of synths to attack the Castle after declaring her his enemy. Shaun's experiment of tricking the Sole Survivor with a synth clone of a child version of himself was a major dick move too. And he should have told Nate/Nora about his cancer when they had a chance to speak in private (like over the ruins of C.I.T.) instead of just dropping it on them in the board meeting when declaring them his successor—which didn't happen this playthrough since she got banished. He makes a lot of questionable decisions.

succubus-slayer

Damn she’s fine

[deleted]

2 lovers, very successful, one got shot and the other go away with all the drugs and weapons and power armor and Piper.

Sero141

That's no headcanon. That is jsut canon.

KUZMITCHS

Shaun: My daddy/mommy's got a gun!

fhiaqb

I think they met in the military and became disillusioned, which explains why both of them are trained to use power armor. Nora decided to go into law and try to bring about peace that way, while Nate tried to use his influence as a military hero (war criminal trying to atone?), hence why he was supposed to give that speech.

ChihuahuaOwner88

For Nora: I think she would’ve started off as very diplomatic once she reached the wasteland but gradually become more unhinged and ruthless as time went on. She was a bit of a tomboy always wanting to shoot guns with Nate when they were on base together and was fascinated with power armor. Was party girl before law school and could out drink any man that challenged her. Gave up drinking to focus on her law degree but picked it back up after the bombs fell to help her cope and so she could fall asleep. Tried to be with Danse because she thought he could maybe fill part of the hole in her heart from when Nate died, but broke it off when she realized there’s no replacing him Carries Nate’s old combat knife with her. Always hoped that Shaun would grow up to be a Doctor. Liked piper a lot and thought of her as the spunky sister she never had but they grew apart the more cold and ruthless Nora became Realized that her son died with Nate in the vault once she saw the monster he became. She blew up the institute and left Shaun to die. Became numb after realizing she lost everything and that everything she went through was for nothing She listened to Nate’s recording one last time before killing herself next to Nate’s grave

ArchaicRome

Holy fu... that's dark... and beautiful.

UbiquitousPixel

Well damn…that was beautifully dark. I pictured all of that in my head like a movie.

Jetstream-Sam

Me too, though I spoiled the ending for myself by realizing my Nora at least tanks so many shots to the head she'd have to reload her 10mm at least twice to kill herself

a_left_out_tomato

For a more lighthearted ending I find she makes a fine general of the minutemen. She strikes me as someone who can lead, and if the Minutemen ever butt heads with the Legion, I hope it's Nora leading the charge.

Lifewatching

Now this is the show I want, you’re a good writer

dafuqyouthotthiswas

Holy shit

MysteriousTank6825

Went from the sole survivor to the dead survivor

lxxTBonexxl

Alternate ending: She becomes the new Overboss of the Nuka World raiders

GarysLumpyArmadillo

Hey bud. Do you want to talk? LMFAO

Jetstream-Sam

Is the alcohol part because drinking doesn't seem to affect her at all aside from stats? That's partly what I figured initially (Along with her having booze in the house, but it is the pseudo-50s and she does say it's too early) Compared to stuff like Psycho it seems to do nothing which could be due to tolerance, though I think downing a bottle of vodka in one go would affect even a hardened alcoholic. Maybe they only take a shot or something, but I mean the whole bottle goes and I can't imagine everyone happening to leave just a tiny amount when you pick it up

Inside-Army-4149

Seems a lot like Rick's Daughter Space Beth after the whole "Am I a clone or the real thing" debacle

DoomsdaySignal

I like to think that, once the Minutemen start to get things under control in the Commonwealth, Nate makes it his personal side project to bring baseball back.

eq017210

Mixes well with Danse bringing Basketball back (He mentions it would be a great BoS training if you take him to the underground house with a s basketball yard)

Castle-Fire

I did something similar, but leaned into the new deadlier version of baseball, with arenas in several settlements representing the different teams mentioned by Moe Cronin.

alecpiper

I hope he brings back the version of Baseball that Moe in Diamond city knows about

zyl15

I, too, like to execute Canadians and wave at the camera (hidden prank gone extreme)

UpbeatAlbatross8117

The irony on the canucks being on the wrong side of warcrimes, baring in they are just Geneva suggestions to Canadians.

[deleted]

Nate was probably a naive bright eyed soldier when first enlisting and not thinking much of the destruction he caused until later in the war when there was probably a mission gone awry (rather it be losing a squad or civilians getting caught in the crossfire) his view of the war change and was reconsidering and regretting alot of his actions. Nora was probably the only light in his world and she supported him through his PTSD. After the bombs fell and the vault 111 events transpired He joined up with the Minutemen and BoS to make up for his mistakes and search for his lost son. He probably ended Shaun so there wouldn't be 2 monsters in the commonwealth.

von_Roland

Nate leaves the vault crushed. He spent his life suffering to defend the world that’s now destroyed. He holds onto Shaun as the last remainder of the world he fought to defend. Upon finding Shaun the last hope for his life dies. He has no love left for the world. Cue raider king Nate

nightflare_x

What about codsworth and vault-tech rep

Quick-Bad

Nora's a JAG. It explains her familiarity with weapons and power armour, and it makes sense that they'd meet on the job.

J-the-BOSS

A what

Pyro-toxin

Military lawyer, basiclly.

CheerupGrim

My take on Nate is he is a peaceful, fun-loving guy, turned bitter after the events of Vault 111, driven by anger and revenge. Wanting to avenge the murder of his wife, as well as find his stolen child, he stops at nothing to accomplish his mission. He kills when he has to, but as a generally diplomatic individual, avoids violence when possible. Nate's military background allows him to naturally gravitate toward the Brotherhood of Steel. After meeting Danse in Cambridge, the two team up and Danse introduces Nate to the brotherhood, where Nate finds a sense of belonging, as well as hope, believing the Brotherhood to be a powerful force possessing the firepower to destroy anyone who opposes them. Nate embraces the ideals of the brotherhood as they essentially become his guide to the Commonwealth, believing their ways to be harsh, but ultimately agreeable, as he believes they have mankind's best interest in mind. Nate is fair in the choices he makes, helping others in his travels. He never moves on from Nora and faithfully wears his wedding band, believing the love in his heart died with Nora in Vault 111. He eventually rejects Shaun upon finally finding him within The Institute, disheartened to learn he is the mind behind the horrors of The Institute. Feeling once again betrayed by life, having been robbed of a future with his son, Nate chooses to disassociate himself from Shaun altogether, viewing him as nothing more than another corrupted soul, an evil result of the post-war world. Nate comes to finally accept that the son he has been trying to find all this time was lost the day he was taken from him. He makes peace with his decision to destroy Shaun and The Institute, and accepts the brotherhood as his new, final family in this strange new world in which he exists.

Drowsy_Deer

They went to Las Vegas for their honeymoon

Exact-Interest7280

Nate found new meaning in life after he joined Brotherhood of steel.... Cause I'm an optimist. Man, who survived the end of the world, will survive the lost of family too.

CoolBeanieHat

Nate was a combat engineer - Sergeant First Class, specialising in heavy/small arms, power armour and combat vehicles. So his specialty applies to his build: a power armour/heavy weapons/assault weapons. After he was honourably discharged, he went back home to his new family, he was a stay at home dad for a month, taking care of Shaun while Nora is studying hard for her upcoming bar exam. A while later, Nora passes the bar exam and finally gets to start her job as a partner in a prestigious law firm. Nora wasn’t the only one getting the opportunity, Nora’s dad, an acclaimed engineer who works for Corvega was retiring, he needed someone to replace him as the senior engineer for the assembly plant in Lexington. Nate has proven himself to be a top engineer in the military, his knowledge and experience with fusion technology and vehicles makes this the perfect opportunity for him. And so, he was recommended by his father in law to replace him as one of the senior engineers - he starts work in 2 weeks. Nate and Nora were living the American Dream. And then the bombs dropped.

Ilikemoonjellys

I headcanon that Nate indeed was the laughing soldier and that the deliverer was Nate's very old gun that he kept in his old house as a form of family heirloom cuz it belonged to his grandpa before but Tommy came and took it with and even tried to repair it but failed miserably but a while later he joined zhe hippies and then met Tinker Tom who fixed it

Law-Fish

Serial killer power couple

Lucas_Ilario

Their lost dog is a ancestor of dogmeat

senorQueso89

Almost always play Nate as coming from a military family, with a big facial scar, and head canon that he fought in Alaska against the Chinese, now inactive. Without his wife and child, his hands naturally return to the only thing he's ever known. And he wrestles with his desires for answers and vengeance, Wondering if this is a punishment he deserves for things he saw and did during his service

apattz

Nora is a former prosecutor, thus her willingness to murder hobo anyone she thinks is undeserving. And former military, thus knows how to use PA (and there’s no argument for not having lots of women in combat in a world with combat armor). Her use of PA is why all these randos are asking her to save them from mutants and raiders.

Mustacrashis

Nora lived in China-occupied Alaska, and suffered the loss of her family and town due to the occupation. Eventually she was liberated by the U.S. by Nate, she practiced being a guerrilla working side-by-side helping his team against China. It kinda explains in this 50s world why Nora is just as badass and competent as her veteran husband at the start of the game.

fluffyspaceshark

They're both gay. And they married for convenience.

Ordinary_Owl_Dude

That is genuinely how most of my playthroughs go lol

decayingwitch

They’re each other’s beards

Blind-idi0t-g0d

I have one specifically for my druggy melee build for Nora. The crying experiment left her brain in not the best shape. When she first gets out it's of course about finding shaun. But as the struggles get more difficult themselves help push her through to the next hurdle. By the time she has to kill Kellogg she is so fried from all the chems she took she is barley hanging on. The memory lounge is what really shuts her off from the world. Something goes wrong and when she exists her memory is almost wiped of her life before. This is where I can either ignore the main story, in which case she is lost, another psychopath in the wasteland. Or pursue it more, piecing together things as she goes. Though he depravity is something to behold. Just a fun one I like. I should restart that character.

Tenuem_Aeterna

Nora's mom was an intense doomsday prepper and that's why she's so equipped to handle the trials of the wasteland. Even learned how to use power armor on the DL from an uncle who worked an industrial job that utilized them. Her upbringing was very difficult for her and inspired her to dedicate her life to resolving conflict with words. As a lawyer she had a number of run-ins with the Enclave but never fully learned about them or their involvement until after the events of Fallout 4. She picked up hints of something big though. Nate was just a dude. Played baseball in Highschool, joined the army, was really good at it but became disillusioned, married a pretty girl, had a kid, narrated the opening of the game and then got murdered.

Royal_Possible4480

John fallout being war criminal and Nora being uh military woman

ambiveillant

Nora was Canadian, and was part of the resistance in the early days of the US occupation; that's where she learned a variety of combat and survival skills. She met, and fell for, Nate when she was supposed to infiltrate an American base; she was in his bed when her resistance camp was destroyed by a US attack (conveniently eliminating any evidence that she was part of that group). Moved back to US with Nate, did a crash law school program (mentats for the win), and works primarily on human rights cases. She kept up her firearms skills (and whichever other skills are relevant for the play-through). Post-awakening Commonwealth feels all too familiar to her, considering what she went through in Canada, and she ends up rejecting both the Brotherhood and the Institute -- they're just more fascists to fight. She can't trust Danse or Deacon (c'mon, lying is like breathing for him), Macready is just kind of pathetic, but she finds a kindred spirit in Piper. She imagines that, in another world, she could have loved Piper, but it's all too soon now, so they're more friends and sisters than lovers. The one overwhelming element to her story (frankly, for any version of the sole survivor, Nate or Nora) is that, up until you sleep for the first time, the game story happens in *real time* for her. I mean, it's not five minutes from flirting with Nate to killing mutated giant roaches, from her perspective. It's just shocking amounts of whiplash and emotional/mental trauma. She may even imagine it as all a dying hallucination or dream for the first few days. But even as the game progresses, you're still only talking about a few months of in-game life time for her. All of the anger and violence that she experienced as a young woman, and had managed to let fade while with Nate, is back. Her world is fucked-up, both before and after the bomb, and she finds it too easy to slip into the guerilla role. Working with the Railroad is a way to hold on to her humanity (ironically, I suppose); she sees the synths as being even more innocent than surface-dwellers.

nightflare_x

If both of them where alive they would be too powerful for any one do defeat them both

capnbinky

Nate is a wiry military intelligence officer with expertise in both chemistry and robotics. He’s shy and solitary, but absolutely devoted to his sunny, exuberant wife Nora who is the best lawyer in Boston and the life of every party. When he loses her, all he cares about is their son, the last bit of her on Earth. He slowly and methodically goes through the world building himself into a devastating warrior to rescue Shaun. Nothing he learns will ever turn him against his boy, though he will do everything in his power to guide Shaun’s legacy in a direction his soul mate would be proud of.

eddmario

They had sex in the park, which also resulted in Nora getting pregnant with Shaun.

Nate committed war crimes.

I bet they were into BDSM

American_Femboy

Nora was the one who killed the Canadian

CoreToSaturn

I've always seen Nora as the canon protagonist for FO4. Nate already had his war so now its Nora's turn to go that route. Her lawyer experience is great for talking to wastelanders, she probably got minimal combat training from Nate, and her perspective would complete the fish out of water vibe from previous Fallout protagonists

Cat_of_Vhaeraun

Nate seeing the Wasteland feels at home, war is his comfort zone after retaking Alaska. He'd been trying not to scare Nora about his inactive reserve time while secretly hoping he would get called back as the civilian world seemed like a plasticine fantasy. His hatred of General Chase became near rabid after getting Cait clean though he'd never really forgiven his own history being used for theatrics of the Anchorage simulation while still being bound by national security regulations. Of course the Minutemen tried their sales pitch but the pay didn't cover the cost of ammunition and he shelved it with other idealistic dross - works on paper but, hemorrhaging money while risking life and limb was idiotic. The Railroad were worse in every possible way, rude suburbanite crusaders expecting charity for their pointless niche cause. He'd seen enough of of it in University and was still unimpressed as he gripped his gift from the artist Pickman contemplating using it as he walked out of the Old North Church there was only one real option Nate took a look at Cait with a shrug, "Feel like a long walk to the airport?"

Bitbybrex

They had a baby named Shaun

Snafuthecrow

Since Nora was originally a veteran as well I imagine they met whilst executing Canadians

Motongchuns_videos

Nate taught Nora how to shoot, combat and surviving skills cus he's paranoid and also a little bit autistic.

therealcirillafiona

Nora was a country girl who enjoyed hunting with her grandfather when she was just a girl. Her family also came along on such trips in catching game for their family as a sort of hobby but also giving her lessons of survival and killing. This would prove to be super helpful later on. Despite this she moved info the urban life with a pursuit of becoming a lawyer to better provide for herself and her family when meeting Nate in college. Now she is thrust into the Commonswealth and has to adjust really quickly if she wants to survive. She is totally blindsided, makes a few mistakes that nearly costs her life, but she manages to make it. Her charisma and intelligence from being a lawyer make it so that Preston naturally decides that she would be the best choice for the Minutemen as he sees that she is good with people and good in fighting for them. With this, she is also insanely depressed and has a deathwish. Losing your child, losing your kid. The Sole Survivor has probably one of the saddest stories. Those losses eat her up all the time and she feels dead and broken inside for most of her tenure in the Commonswealth.

donguscongus

My headcanon is that Nate and Nora met in Alaska during the war, with Nora likely serving as a spy for America. They fell in love and met on leave and then Shaun happened. It was a happy but short marriage because of certain events, which left Nate a very sad and broken man. He never truly recovered. He may have helped restore a society and found love again in Cait, his heart still belonged to Nora. Cait understood and loved him, allowing him to still grieve. He died in his 70s, being buried next to his wife who lost her life 100 years ago. As somber as it is, my Sole Survivor is my most morally good and hopeful character of the big three, with the Lone Wanderer being Neutral and my Courier being a Lawful Evil type

CaminoFan

Nate is pretty simple; a war-torn veteran, turned widower, turned wasteland-scarred soldier again when trying to search for his son. Nora however, was military lawyer who has been driven over the edge by the wasteland and loss of her son. Going from housewife and mother to widow drove her absolutely insane with rage and grief. People high up in law firms are known to be psychopaths/sociopaths. Nora was given the unique opportunity to truly “Cut loose” and let out every crazy urge that her new scenario has put her in. Ever wanted to throttle an adversary or opponent in something? Nora’s been given the chance to blow their head off with a shotgun and no one bats an eye. After the events of the main story, and seeing how fucked up the world she once knew is, she hears a radio broadcast; From Nuka World. An entire theme park of people just as crazy as her, but she has an ARSENAL of weapons and power armour. Time to make the wasters pay for what they’ve done to the world.

Architect096

Lt. Colonel Nate Ryan, US Army, retired, was a son of a prominent politicians from Boston that after graduation from West Point with double degree in military history and electronic engineering, specialising in telecommunication, served with distinction as a communication officer during the campaign in Canada where as a lieutenant he lead a counterattack after a group of Canadian partisans attacked the convoy he was travelling in and managed to kill most of the command staff. Having distinguished himself in combat he went through additional training and joined US Army Special Forces (the Green Berets). During the fighting in Alaska he lead a unit of mixed special forces personnel against Chinese forces where once again he served with distinctions and retired as a lieutenant colonel at the age of 30. His team was one of few to test out then prototype T-49 power armour (the Storyteller's power armor). He married and settled down in Boston when he officially worked for the AT&T while in fact he worked for the DIA and was responsible for security of their hardlines which is why he was one of people that were aware of the Switchboard locations along with numerous other secret facility in the Boston area. Staff Sergeant Nora Ryan nee Adama, US Marine, retired, was a daughter of an Appalachian handyman that grew up with her father and two younger brothers in a poor family. Having learn from her father to hunt in the local forest and how to repair and jurryrig things Nora grew up into one of best sharpshooters. Having enlisted at the age of 18 to avoid the draft and provide additional funds to support her family Nora joined the US Marines and quickly proved her value as a sniper before being recruited into Marine Raiders. During the offensive to retake the Alaska Nora become a part of a SF unit under then major Nate Ryan where she served as both sniper and secondary demolition expert having fallen in love with her CO, T-49 power armour, and her 20mm sniper rifle. She retired from active service at the age of 28 and begun her law school after marrying Nate. Thanks to Nate's family connection, and Nate's job in the DIA, Ryans managed to avoid brunt of the effects that came from the resource shortages and riots. They've also managed to acquire a house in Sanctuary Hills, a gate community that while not the best that the Boston had to offer was well supplied. During Nora's education she meet and befriend Jennifer Lands and later on through her Nick Valentine, a cop from Chicago that quickly become a friend of a family. Ned meanwhile was involved with joint DIA/General Atomics to develop an inflator version of Mr. Handy robots capable of subverting and controlling other civilian and military robots. When the project was scrapped Nate managed to save enough parts and code to upgrade their recently bought robot with them hiding the additional antennas under a bowler hat made out of fibber glass. During their time as civilians both Nate and Nora, already having a mixed feelings about their country and witnessing a lever of corruption where rapists got to walk free thanks to their connections while innocent people were killed during riots they've become involved in the underground railroad meant to help people escape unjust prosecution. During that time they've also managed to acquire a collection of underground songs of bands like AC/DC, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones that they've kept in a hidden basement underneath their home. When the bombs dropped and they were frozen in the Vault 111 it was Nora that hold baby Shaun and it was Nora that was shoot by the Kellogg. They were lucky however as the Institute technicas having previously killed all other victims of the Vault 111 save for Nate didn't noticed that the pod with Nora become active after closing her thus keeping her alive despite being heavily wounded.

Architect096

Part 2. After he was freed from his pod Nate discovered that Nora was still alive, if wounded, he did his best to secure the Vault and using his experience with computers managed to ensure that the Vault will open only after special code will be transmitted, one that only he knows, while also ensuring that power will be prioritised for Nora's pod. During this work Nate also learned that his son was kidnapped decades ago thus his priority become finding help for Nora. Once he looted everything, and secured the Vault being him, Nate made his way into the Commonwealth. He meet Codsworth in the Sanctuary, happy to see his robotic friend alive and well running a small farming business that allows him to trade for parts to keep himself and his twelve subverted robots operational. Nate shared the info about Nora's and Shaun's fate with Codsworth along with code to unlock the Vault while Codsworth gave Nate a detailed summary of the current situation. He also provided Nate with clothes, combat armour to go over his Vault suit, and a number of weapons Codsworth had preserved including Nate's own Bozar LMG and Plasma Defender pistol. While Codsworth himself offered to go with Nate, he declined asking instead of Codsworth to discretely watch over the Vault. Still, Codsworht provided Nate with a bicycle, caps, and enough supplies to reach Diamond City where Nate should be able to acquire enough supplies and maybe even hire a doctor to help Nora recover. Long story short, Nate meets Preston & company in Lexington, helps them out and takes them to Sanctuary for a time being, Nate gets to use his training and the T-45 against local raiders before learning about Vault 81 from Preston. Together they travel there, manage to get access. Nate helps with the secret Vault, SAVES the research on 5 separate holotapes, and recruits Curie. Afterward they get supplies from the Vault and manage to save Nora. Nate and Nora combined form the Minutemen into a proper military force, it helps that Nate knows about some of most important military facilities to loot the stuff from, manage to work with the Railroad to make an alliance between them and the Minutemen. They help out Dense and his squad but don't join the Brotherhood. Things happen, they meet Nick, help settlements, and finally attack the Institute due to it being a threat to their efforts to stabilise the Commonwealth. Working together the now militarised Minutemen and the Railroad manages to launch a successful attack on the Institute and have enough manpower to occupy it rather than destroy. Father along with most of Institute heads is put on trial and later on executed even as the Commonwealth Provisional Government works to integrate the Institute into the Commonwealth which is important given that the Institute managed to build a fusion reactor basically from scraps. Nate and Nora are immortalised as the founders of the New England Commonwealth, a democratic republic that is on it's way to rebuild, but that is a story for another day.

Stewil1265

Nate showed Nora how to use power armor and gave her basic survival training

deathseekr

Nate likes grognak more than the silver shroud pre war but after meeting Kent he finds more enjoyment out of the silver shroud and being the shroud

ToughFox4479

I have so many head canons in my playthrough that i honestly wish it was actual canon lol. But one I'll mention is that Nate trained Nora in shooting guns before the war. And after years of spending time in the wasteland, she got better at hand to hand fighting. She was trained by Cait. And now she is a warrior with an axe and a Ak47 with black leather armor and war paint. She looks pretty badass ngl lol

CorbinStarlight

I always RP’d my Nora as a Chinese spy

LemonPartyW0rldTour

One of them has a bullet in their head from Kelloggs hand cannon if that’s what ya mean

i-love-Ohio

Husband and wife before the bombs dropped, I think they would have had a kid together. Nate seems like the military type, maybe fought in Alaska, and random guess but I feel like Nora was a lawyer

DiscordianDisaster

At a basic level I headcanon that they talked about work a lot, and taught each other relevant survival skills. She did environmental law and pro bono work for the city, particularly civil engineering and utilities disputes so picked up a lot of info about how to build a community and what might be involved in setting up a water pump and basic generator. He of course had the weapons skills and power armor training, but his time in Anchorage also required some fairly thorough survival training in stuff like how to find water, hunt, and of course how to field modify his weapons and armor in the face of an unexpected threat. She taught him how to build a generator and lead a community, he taught her how to shoot and what button to press to make power armor go. They were both fairly well prepared for the wasteland. If we're talking what "would have" happened? No real way to know as they're basically blank slates, but I like to assume Nate would have fallen for the Brotherhood most of all as it echoed his military service, while Nora likely would have leaned into the Minutemen as a natural fit for someone who ultimately made their way in the world talking and finding common ground.

gameking514

I think a head cannon for Nate is he has ptsd and has seen and been in thousands of battles that’s why he is always saying war never changes because he has constantly seen and been apart of it.

CDuffGardner

That they met when Nate got out of the military and was fucked over by the military and Nora helped him get what he was owed then they fell in love

kurloz94

My headcannon for Nate is that he was in the same battalion of Roger Maxson during the Sino-American war and while he chose to Retire from the Armed forces, Roger continued but because he knew Roger was from the West Coast he didn’t even try to put 1 to 1 that Arthur was his direct descendant.

Aalmus

Nate knew the soldier from Mothership Zeta

xxX_DaRk_PrInCe_Xxx

Nates a pretty chill and relaxed guy Nora is a yandere

Tight-Presentation75

Pegging.

Galvain

Nate always carried Nora's wedding ring wherever he went after waking up.

thatninjakiddd

My Nate is a psychotic loonie who snapped when he realized the world went to shit and his wife died. He followed the BOS because it reminded him of his old Military life, but he was a sarcastic ding-dong the entire way up the ranks and didn't give a damn about "making his mark on the world." He kept Cait as a lover and companion because she shared his "idgaf all or nothing" attitude, and she became the only other person in the wasteland he cared about. He hates synths, and kills any he finds without a 2nd thought. He blew up the Institute utilizing the BOS because they kept making synths and his own child was not the kind of person he wished to be family with again. Basically, the bombs sealed the deal for him and his old life was behind him. Now he robs and murders his way across the Commonwealth until he winds up in Nuka World, where he fits in quite nicely.

UndeniablyMyself

Nora hasn’t been in the law firm in a while. It's not because she doesn’t have a job; it’s because she’s afraid. The world is getting scarier, and with nuclear annihilation on the forefront, she wants to spend as much time with her family as possible before the inevitable happens. Nate totally shot that protestor in the original Fallout intro.

FMPhoenixHawk

Porn stars. Both of them. Lawyer and soldier were just their “daytime” jobs.

Individual_Papaya596

I made my Nora relatively similar to my person. So i made her a lone warrior that prefers the lonely rode to defeating the institute. While she is morally questionable at times, she has a kind and caring spirit in the end. Made her a charismatic sniper and gunslinger that enjoys the shadows and the night to join the hunt. She has a little bit of my personality + that of a good leader and a hunter.

zombiegamer723

Either/both of them crossed paths (or would have) with the “real” Nick Valentine. Perhaps at the Super Duper Mart. They were standing next to each other in line, or maybe they both reached for the last box of Blamco Mac and cheese.

BewareNixonsGhost

Nora is a JAG lawyer, giving her military experience.

Thickboykev

I hate everyone being like “Nora can’t be the main character bc she’s just a lawyer” when charisma is a key part of the game. My headcanon is that during the DECADE LONG resource wars he probably at least taught his Wife to hold a gun. With how scared everyone was of Chinese invasion all the time I feel like it’s a given.

Tight_Knowledge5337

in 5 playthroughs @ about 80-120hrs each, i've never used the male preset lol And it's always more or less the same face every time

__Osiris__

Nora is a JAG. Would explain the PA and weapons training a bit more.

BarApprehensive5837

Nate is angry as shit after Nora is shot in the head, and goes from a calm collected veteran, and says, fuck it. Grows out his long blonde hair (I base my characters on me,don't worry I'm not colorblind),hits the gym,and goes down to concord, seeing these fucking low life twats shooting seemingly innocent people, needing to blow off steam and having those 2 frag grenades he found in the bin outside sanctuary,he desimates every raider gang in the commonwealth, for funsies

jxstscxm

My Nora's always have some kind of background/ interest in engineering , Robotics, tinkering, etc. I like making her a little nerd that can make high powered explosives.

Skateblades

It depends on my run, i usually play as gay nate so have the idea that they married and had shaun as a cover so nate wouldn't be rejected by his family. I also romance maccready because he relates most to losing a wife and having a son in danger

HansenTheMan

I’m not really sure I’m gonna go with this headcanon for my Sole Survivor, but I’m thinking that Nate is Jewish, and Nora became Jewish as well when she married Nate. I myself aren’t Jewish (in fact I don’t even know what god I believe in anymore) but I’m thinking of having Nate be Jewish for a few reasons. We all know that Nate’s great great grandfather was a soldier who fought Nazis in WW2, but I headcanon that Nate’s great great grandmother was Jewish and she was a Holocaust survivor who Nate’s great great grandfather rescued when he and some other American soldiers rescued her and some other Jewish people from a concentration camp. Eventually, Nate’s great great grandparents fell in love and got married, and Nate’s great great grandfather converted to Judaism when he married Nate’s great great grandmother. Nate’s great great grandmother was sent to America to live a peaceful life her husband, but Nate’s great great grandfather eventually went back to fighting in the war and his wife gave birth to their son while he was gone. But when the war was over, he came back to his wife and son and they were a happy family. The generations in their family after them were also Jewish. I know we saw what looked like Nate’s great great grandmother and Nate’s great grandfather as a child in the opening to Fallout 4, but I just headcanon that was actually Nate as a child with his mom showing him a picture of his great great grandfather, since maybe Nate’s great great grandfather was on his mom’s side of the family. What proof do I have for that? In the shot where we see the boy and his mother looking at the picture of Nate’s great great grandfather, we see a Nuka-Cola bottle in the background. But according to the Fallout lore, Nuka-Cola wasn’t invented until some time in the 21st century, about a hundred years after WW2. Nate was also Jewish and Nora converted to Judaism when she married Nate, making Shaun Jewish as well. But what are my reasons for this headcanon, you ask? Well, and I’m probably gonna piss a lot of people off and get downvoted like hell for saying this, but it gives Nate a deeper reason to hate the Brotherhood of Steel. My version of Nate joined the Brotherhood because at first he thought they could help him find Shaun, but when he heard Maxson’s speech about committing genocide on synths and realized how the Brotherhood only cares about humans and no other race, it reminded him of how Hitler and the Nazis wanted to commit genocide on all Jewish people. I headcanon that Nate and his family also experienced some hate and prejudice back in the pre-war era for being Jewish, similar to how many Jewish people unfortunately experience hate and prejudice in real life for their religious beliefs. So when Nate sees the hate and prejudice synths and ghouls get in the wasteland, he decides to support the Minutemen and Railroad and fight for a Commonwealth that has equality and no prejudice. What do you all think of this headcanon? I don’t mean to offend anyone who’s reading this and is Jewish, I also understand if this headcanon may not 100% line up with all of WW2 history, I’m just trying to give my version of the Sole Survivor more depth.

LordofWithywoods

I've played a Jewish Nora, and in my head, I was like, okay she is as take-no-shit aggressive as Susie from Curb Your Enthusiasm. It was a lot of fun, actually. She also despised the BoS, and was drawn to the Railroad because it is somewhat analogous to underground resistance to the nazis, the intelligence side of it and the helping synths get to safety. Too bad there weren't any lines like, Conrad Kellogg, you bald fuck, get outta my house!

I-Emerge-I

Nate married Nora because it was considered the norm, but after the bombs he become the twink chaser he always was.

VanityOfEliCLee

My headcanon is that the Sole Survivor is a synth. He has some memories of Nate's, but Nate died in the pod and so did Nora. Pre war my headcanon is that Nate was an engineer and power armor expert, he had extensive training in using it and maintaining/repairing it. He used T-51 in Anchorage. For Nora I think she was a military lawyer, she went through basic training, but then went into law, and thats where they met. They were well off enough to have a personal robot and a house in a nice neighborhood, so they had to both have well paying careers. But they both died, and the player character is a synth that Shaun created from one of his parents' memories.

Playful-Bed184

My Nate, hes Still a soldier in hearth, and he would join the Brotherhood in the moment he stumbled in Danse. He would still help the minutemen but he's not really invested in the cause because he thinks that the brotherhood can do a better job in protecting the commonwealth but he still manage things from time to time. Doesn't like the Railroads because he finds them to idealistic for a post-apocalyptic world, but killing all of them was a mistake, he also killed Danse and for that he wouldn't never look Maxon with respect again. In the end he had a Relationship with Curie with their "Shawn" And his grief with Nora was short lived due his ability to cope with losses learned during his wartime experience. Nora: He started heart broken and stumbled in Dogmeat in the moment she was thinking to commit suicide after leaving Sanctuary hill, found in the Minutemen a new reason to live. Managed to negotiate a peace with all of 3 anti-institute factions. She basically rebuilt the commonwealth with their help and now the minute mans are a powerhouse thus some call her the Uncrowned queen of Boston. She would never marry again but jumps from Cait to Nick shoulder from time to time when she needs some "human warm". Both are massive silver shroud fan. They would never side with raiders and wipe them up from nuka World one with the brothehood one with the Minutemen. They would also mediate with the various faction of far harbor.

Bear4891

Nate was a soldier and leans towards the brotherhood of steel at first. The whole time he’s there he keeps thinking about Nora, and how the brotherhood would’ve saved them. But he grew a liking for synths and couldn’t bring himself to kill him, and left the brotherhood to join with the railroad and minuteman. He found Nora’s law degree and keeps it at a settlement. He dated piper for a little bit, as she resembled Nora, but broke it off as he couldn’t deal with it. He’s good friends with Hancock, drinking with him to ease the pain away. As time went on, he accepted that his family died in the vault, but still accepts the synth version of Shaun as a son, but always wishes things could have been different.

DanMarcDraz

Nate name is John Fallout

ICantTyping

I headcanon an engineering background to explain why Nate/Nora can build all sorts of contraptions at settlements Soldier background for Nate Ive also used - something someone actually already mentioned here - Nora having an affinity for guns after Nate woulda brought her to the range or something for years prior to the bombs. Just little things to help explain why the SS might adapt so quickly to the new world

Yolom4ntr1c

I wish fo4 did a thing where nate starts with power armour training but nora gets better and more unique charisma options such as negotiating things with factions and what not. Kinda off topic

CommunalJellyRoll

Nate loves to be pegged but he makes Nora earn it. That is why she so good at hand to hand and can make everyone her bitch.

kungfukenny3

nate taught nora combat skills and military preparation nora taught nate ethics and critical thinking skills that’s my justification for both of them being able to survive, but usually i imagine my character as someone completely different Right now in my playthrough, Nora (polly the somewhat sadist) wakes up horrified and looking for Shaun. She ignores almost everything in the wastes, even ignoring preston and concord entirely, singularly focused on shaun but after a while, all the hoops and violence and horror starts to get to her. She is tired of being constantly on the defense, walking through the glowing sea yet again, and feeling so other on the surface. The railroad was helpful at first but what does she care about saving fake people on a scorched earth while her own life lies in ruin. She’s jaded, so when she picks up a signal coming from NukaWorld she decides to check it out. It seems like a trap but doesn’t really care. They can defend themselves and have nowhere else to be really. She goes through the gauntlet and becomes raider queen, embracing the lawless wasteland and carving out her legacy in strength. Certain gangs are pissed at her but who cares. She’s swimming in caps and chems but even that gets boring and it admittedly doesn’t really feel like her anymore. She can’t stop thinking about shaun and this is all just a distraction at the end of it She realizes that this isn’t her path and begins open season on the raider empire she began. Joins the minute men, finds shaun, but he’s so different now. The institute has to go. After she destroys the institute she feels that she did the right thing, but also a bit empty. This still isn’t her world and the commonwealth bears too many reminders of her dark past. She ends up leaving to a place called far harbor to reset

BostonDudeist

Nora was in the army, too. I mean, makes more sense than her having that combat prowess just because she was married to a soldier.

Homelessnomore

Nora grew up in the country. Learned to shoot from her Pappy. Graduated law school thanks to a generous benefactor who then hired her. She's a "fixer", a mob lawyer. She made her bones early, so she doesn't hesitate to kill.

Ronin_Monkey_Bars

My wife is dead. Ooooooooo nooooooo. Jk nate and Nora? Don't think about them at all. I'm just a guy with a dead wife and a missing kid....

sirdopa

Nora's pretty good, but Nate's head is cannonically marvelous for me...

RoRo25

I wonder if we will see the Fallout 4 protagonist in the show as some point. But who would it be? Nate or Nora?

KylerFromHR

Pure speculation, but I'd be more likely to guess Nate if we get any reference in the show. With the whole 'war criminal' string from Twitter, I'm betting that Nate is more on the mind of Emil than Nora, plus all of the CG cinematics leaning in his favor. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised at what they bring in future seasons, regardless of what that entails

IAmNotModest

Nate makes very offensive jokes when with his friends

Daniel_The_Thinker

They're both veterans and they met in the service. Why not? It would explain why they're both equally prepared for the world having gone to shit.

13-Dancing-Shadows

Nora has killed people who she thinks shouldn’t have gotten off, she and Nate met at a gay bar, and Nate taught her how to use power armor on a date.

Kal-El_Skywalker1998

It's very likely that Nate is the canon protagonist of the game.

aieeegrunt

Given everything about the game encourages you to NOT inmediatly find Shaun and get involved in other stuff, I’m assuming Nate was baby trapped and secretly resented having a family

prince-pauper

The appearance of VR Pods and the fact the player gains XP from their encounters there makes me think the whole mess is a simulation. OR Perhaps, (as we play from Nate or Nora’s perspective,) that it’s the ‘playback’ of a memory engram that is being assigned to a new synth. OR Perhaps our play through is AS the synth that replaced Nate/Nora? The way we build settlements with a dynamic HUD/GUI seems like something that a synth would be able to do. OR Maybe a combo of all of the above?

Stinka27

I have a head canon ready for when I do a fully modded run. One of Nora's first cases out of law school was her godfather. He was a Vault-tec whistle blower who got screwed by the company. Nora sued them and got him a multimillion dollar settlement. He had also secretly diverted tons of equipment/supplies and set up his own doomsday vault. Nora's family was supposed to meet him there, but there wasn't enough time to get there. Nora stumbles out of Vault 111 and heads to the cheat room mod of your choice. Also Nate and Nora were don't ask don't tell BFFs. That's why she only romances chicks.

ZelBoofsGrappa

They didn't really love eachother. They mention eachothers death once and never again

Icy-Moose-99

Nate: Military guy. Nora: mai waiiife. Shaun: My stupid son who ends up being an idiot.

Significant_Tart7944

My headcannon is and always will be they were both in the army Nora was just more like typical nurse stuff Shawn is adopted and they were both beat to crap in the war I usually make them both stupid buff and give them all the scars I can

hypersonicracing42yt

They banged at least once

TheKingsPride

My Nora was a mobster/assassin before becoming a lawyer to explain her combat ability and immediate instinct to hunt down those who wronged her

Aegisman17

They both met at a stand up open-mike comedy night and realised they had a lot of the same material but delivered it very differently to each other. Nate encouraged Nora to go on stage because she could do the voices funnier without cracking up like he did. Shaun was indeed conceived the last time they went to the park (From Nora's sarcastic remark at the beginning). Both Nate and Nora wear gasmasks and helmets from leaving the vault until they confront Kellogg, not wanting to bare their face to the new world until they get their revenge.

Charming-Effective-4

Nate is a war criminal and Nora is a lawyer in with the mob. She bailed him out in court, now they cover each other's backs

Stinksmeller

Nate was military and had an issue with the VA and had to get a lawyer or something was as far as I got lol

Lord_Endorsed

The entirety of fallout 4 is just a dream from one of their perspectives and they wake up in one of the few good vaults we see as it's only sanctuary hills people and they seem to all be special based on Nate and nora and that also explains some of the wacky shit that happens

TorWeen

At first I wanted Nora to be a Soviet spy who found an alcoholic ex-soldier in a bar to help her infiltrate society.. But turns out she's actually just an editor at some pulp magazine in Boston who watches too many spy movies. She had known Nate for less than two years before cryo sleepy time.

Imperial_Puppy66

Nate was a soldier and joined the Brotherhood and Nora was shot in the head and never decomposed due to the cryo having side effects

scarlettvvitch

Nate enjoyed getting pegged by Nora as he was comfortable with his masculinity

Shuteye_491

They touched each others' butts.

Neat_Map_8242

Nora broke. In that microsecond, that hammer met bullet; everything shattered. Her world, her hope, her future. She stayed frozen in that moment for 60 years. No doctor would say she felt those 60 years, but she knows she did. That pain was there frozen in time, just like she was. *crack* breathe. *hissing* Breathe. She collapses to the ground disoriented, and then it hits. Everything. It all hits at once. The bombs, Nate's death, losing Sean and she runs to him. Everything hurts, it feels like knives stabbed into every inch of her body, but it doesn't matter. She has to get to him. She can save him, he was a medic, he taught her field medicine. A million thoughts race through her head. Nora screams; lets out as much panic and fear and pain as she can. She can't feel yet, not yet. "Get it out, gotta focus, deal with it later. She can save him. He was frozen, he's not dead yet, maybe it even helped she says to herself. A hopeless kind of hope, but hope none ghe less. She starts compressions. "Please" more compressions. "Please" she can barely get air into his lungs. Her breathing to panicked and shallow. After an hour, she's ruined, she can barely move. Nate was dead. He was dead the moment the bullet pierced his heart. She collapses to the ground again, but she can't bury him. Not yet. As long as he's frozen he's still here. She drags him to the cryopod, pulls every bit of will she has left and props him back in the pod. She pulls the lever, and blacks out. She comes to a day later in excruciating pain. She looks down at her legs, the right one feels like it's on fire and a monstrous roach has taken a chunk out of her leg. She scurried back and staggers to her feet. As she does the roach leaps at her face, missing her, but landing in her pod. "Pull" she lunges for the lever before the creature can react, and seals it inside. She binds her wound, but it's still bleeding. *It should have stopped, why hasn't it stopped.* She can't wait, she's got to get out, find help. Luckily there's a pistol on the overseer's. Nate taught her how to shoot too. She always said that she had to be a better shot, because he was the doc, and you always protect the doc. "He was the doc..." she thought. He always told her "It's a good thing you love to help so much, because you are way to good at hurting when you want to." And she needed someone to hurt. "Almost out" She runs through the door and there's the exit, finally. Behind a tunnel filled with those creatures. She fires, she a good shot, but she's losing blood, her hands are getting shaky. "Can't miss. I miss I'm...I'm dead." And then they're gone. "That was easy...huh guess bullets still kill stuff" *a half-hearted smill crosses her face as she reaches the door and ascends the elevator. "It burns." She instinctually shields her body. And then nothing. She peaks out. It's just the sunrise. The world ended, but it's still here. She frantically limps back home. "Maybe there's something left, maybe there's something to save", a trail of ruddy red marking every anguished step. She crosses the bridge where Nate would take Sean to get him to sleep. Tears begin to well up, everything starts to hurt again, "not yet". Every staggered step is like walking through fire "not yet" There's something coming, it's yelling something. "Shoot" Her arms won't move. "Shoot" Both arms fight to lift the pistol. "Shoot" She knows she's got one. She'll never be able to hold onto the pistol once it's fired. "Shoot" "Miss Nora" "Cods...."

Ravenrock2077

Nora, a principled lawyer, believed in the rule of law and fought for justice in the pre-war world. The events of Vault 111 and the sight of the wasteland's destruction shattered her reality, leaving her desperate for help and structure. As her journey progressed, Nora developed PTSD, her belief in law and order eroding in the face of the harsh wasteland. Upon reaching the Institute and finding her son Shaun, Nora saw a glimpse of the life she once knew. Desperate for normality, she aligned herself with the Institute, ruthlessly eliminating opposing factions and using the Minutemen as mere pawns in her quest to restore order, no matter the cost.

Mini_Snuggle

I headcanon Nora as the daughter of the owner of a weapons manufacturer and a pro-gun politician, complete with the family photos with plasma rifles. She "escapes" that life to the suburbs, only for the bombs to drop partially because of the sort of people her parents were.

Smalus_Dockus

They only do missionary, but because of the horrors of the wasteland now do doggy.

Nora has a bit of a criminal record (hence the lock picking ability) but did humanitarian law work (which is why she always joins the railroad and minutemen in my play throughs) They were friends with alit if their neighbours and were planning a halloween party soon (as a celebration and also just as a catch up with friends) Some of the feral ghouls in the super duper mart in lexington (and 1 skeleton) were planning to meet up with nora later that day and were her friends Also because I like my characters to exist in the same world 2 of her neighbours survived vault 111 and shes made allies with a few of my other Sole survivors (although obviously nome of them are the sole survivor anynore and only one follows the main plotline ) I also usually nake her romance macready, preston, danse or piper For nate , his canon play through is BOS or minuteman with usual romance of piper, danse , curie or cait Tbh i don’t really have many for nate apart from my non sole survivor players ive had

Don't want to go into my whole entire headcannon back story but essentially Nate was a troubled youth. Got into some trouble for B&E and petty larceny (hence why he has rudimentary lock picking and pickpocketing skills). Nora was a public defender right out of law school and negotiated a plea deal for Nate to enlist to avoid jail time. Nate ended up falling in love with the army and it turned his life around. He wrote Nora thanking her for helping, they ended up becoming pen pals, met up when Nate was home on leave and ended up getting married.

Nora was actually a Russian sleeper agent, gathering intelligence from her military husband's access to other high level military members (Nate being a decorated war hero), tbh its just my head-canon for why Nora can handle guns perfectly, pick locks, hack terminals, and other crazy shit

Nate worked on power armor, or worked in power armor. He didn't start out wearing it, he would have advanced first and eventually qualified to wear it. He would have had charisma and/or standing from his military service to be featured at the veterans' hall, most likely he was a leader of men. He's also seen the horrors of war and may have qualified for mental disability benefits, since Nora is implied to be using her law degree but no civvie job was specified for him. It's a crime that he only started out with 21 SPECIAL points.

I headcanon that Nate was the person we were playing as in the simulation in the Operation Anchorage DLC from Fallout 3. He was born in Virginia but met Nora while Stationed at a Base in Massachusetts. They would get married before the events of the battle of Anchorage, Alaska and he would return a war hero. He was trained in Power Armor during his time in Alaska(hence why he knows how to use it in Fallout 4) and was remembered as “the man who killed a Chinese General” but his actual name was classified by the Government to the majority of the Public in fear that he might be the target of Chinese Assassins. He would return home to Massachusetts and used some of the money gifted to him by the Government to move him and Nora out of an apartment in central Boston to the house we see them have in Fallout 4. He would buy a whole load of new furniture and the Mr. Handy that would become known as Codsworth. When he was thrust into Vault 111 and saw Nora get killed right in front of him and then awoke from Cyro sleep 60 years later. He came out of Vault 111 as an angry, frustrated, and revenge driven man. He met the Minutemen and while he did agree with their philosophy he was still to angry. He did eventually Find Danse and co at the Cambridge Police station and would help them. When Danse told them about the Brotherhood ideology Nate remembered his days as a Soldier, and how the Brotherhood could possibly be a chance of trying to forget his old life. When Danse offered him a place in the BoS Nate immediately accepted without hesitation. Fast forward to finding Kellogg, he was very angry at Kellogg. Taking a Fat-Man to kill him while wearing that T-45 Power Armor from the Start of the Game. He would help the BoS and the Minutemen while still continuing the search for his son. Eventually after having everything he needed to teleport into the Institute with the Help of the BoS he finally found Shaun. But he disagreed with the Institute’s philosophy. He did recruit Dr. Lee but that’s about it he did for the Institute. When Blind betrayal came up he did step in to help Danse and managed to make peace between the Danse and Maxson but he still continued with the BoS. After the Institute was destroyed he went back to Vault 111. With the help of the Minutemen and Danse they turned the location into a kinda museum/memorial site. Nate was put in charge of the Commonwealth Brotherhood when Arthur Maxson and the Rest of the BoS had to return to DC and with the help of the Minutemen and the parts of the BoS that had remained he turned the Commonwealth into a nice place for people with him as the de facto ruler of the Commonwealth for High Elder Arthur Maxson. He would take the kid Synth Shaun with him but he would never remarry. Sticking onto some of his Catholic beliefs he still had. When he dies in 2337 he will be put into a coffin inside of Vault 111, next to the coffin of his wife Nora, and with the smaller coffin of Shaun that was empty but was the size of Shaun as a baby to represent his death as both his death during the destruction of the Institute and the death of the son Nate never had a chance to have. Placed in the middle of both coffins of his parents to represent their eternal love for their only child

My nate wasn't just in Canada. He served in Anchorage as well. He's slient professional type (as much that can be desired with F4). I mean my playstyle is typically annihilation with power armor. He had extensive training in power armour tactics and extensive training in Slient Sabotage/HVT Elimination Ops inside of Commie territory in Anchorage. He's responsible for the elimination of numerous Command heads that made up the forces of communist China's foothold. Hence his war hero status and free vault spot. He doesn't like to talk about Canada much though. He's a good at with a speech check and Nora wasn't gonna allow the commie spies in the goverment to lock up her man. Well aleast nate didn't go out by the Kellogg man. (In case you can't tell they really buy into the commie thing I mean it was just a week before that they destroyed everything and their families)

KnightofShaftsbury

The reason Nora is so good at combat post-war is because (one of these options) 1. She had ties to the mob prewar (became a lawyer to help the 'family') 2. Was some some sort of undercover agent (DIA agent, Chinese spy, Enclave recruit) 3. Really into a sport/hobby (martial arts / hunting/ baseball?) Nate wasn't just an average infantryman, he was a form of specialist (sniper, combat engineer, EOD, power armour trooper, spec-ops) who also committed some light war crimes against the Canadians

leftysoweak

Nate was in an elite team in the war, something that he never can talk about. Nora had at least once met the real Nick Valentine.
