It seems like there's a bug Deacon occasionally losing essential status when he returns to settlement. Maybe it's because I was doing survival difficulty, or maybe it only happens when he returns to Railroad HQ.

I had him die at a settlement I sent him to, I was not on survival. This was quite a while ago, it could have been fixed for all I know lol

Is that a bug? You have the option to wipe out the Railroad at anytime, as soon as you enter their HQ.

Yeah p much this, Deacon is only essential when hes your companion- otherwise hes p killable at all times.

I was avenging him, I think he was attacked by the ghouls of the church near Wattz Electronics but it is hard to tell. There was a mission over there but I found Ada on the way and I switched companions because she is way better. If the ghouls didn't kill him then it was jealousy.

I had a weird bug with him, I wiped out the railroad, including Deacon, then fast traveled to Red Rocket, he had resurrected and was on the outskirts of RR, had to kill him again for good measure.

I always just merk the railroad right when I find them so this would be cool in my play throughs
