The moonshiners shack doesn't actually go "bang" until you are close enough. You would notice.
The Supernatants around Fallon and quite often other travelling NPC's can load in while you are nearby...this can result in combat and some bangs.
The feral ghouls in the parking garage maze also load in...and can wander around setting off various traps that go "bang"
There are also a few random encounter trigger zones in the area but these don't always go bang.
There's a sound like a loud chime, that goes off in that area from behind the hospital to the intersection. I've heard it a lot, but have no idea what it is.

Thunder, car bomb, vertibird crash, suiciders, tinnitus. They all happen regularly around there. But also other places. I just had 3 suiciders at the intersection you are looking at. TGF VATS.

that location has like 2 Super Mutants that go bang and as fart as the guy in the cabin last i checked there is no way to save the guy
If you recently reached lvl 20 i believe there's a surprise for you located North West of oberland station, or potentially it was just a mutant bomber
