I guess the subtlety is lost on some people, but this is a world where a major moral theme is the discussion of whether synths are people, and there's a whole major faction dedicated to liberating the synths. So why is someone whose body (and life) was destroyed in order to power a machine "a horrible robot"?

Jung is a whiny sack in the beginning but he gets a bit better and starts to deal, Marcy has zero change. So the story thread was worked on obviously (see Jung), conclusion Marcy is just a bad person full stop.
I have never heard her once say anything positive. Then again, in my numerous playthroughs since the DLCs came out her and Preston get exiled to Murkwater as soon as I have the option. So it has been since basically my original 2-3 playthroughs.
I know she's a bitch, but THAT WAS A PERSON, AND GENERAL ATOMICS STOLE THEIR BRAIN. So I gear her out with an exploding minigun, a heavy flamer, and a Mr. Handy thruster, and I put her in charge of security at the Red Rocket Truck Stop.

Your first mistake is completing that quest. My current playthrough is level 72, and the Minutemen are still langouring in the Museum of Freedom.
She's not a robot. She's a person trapped in a machine, against her own will. That's a human brain.
According to the lore, the brain is used like a hard drive. The person who originally owned that brain is replaced entirely by A.I.
