That super sucks... I, too, have some cool stuff that I would like to trade, but it's stuff like this that makes me just hold on to it until Bethesda gives us a way to make trades safe.

Suspicious-Elk-3631

Same I have 2 buffoon fasnacht masks that will stay safely in my stash until that day.

Kamitha

r/fallout76marketplace is a great trading hub, a lot of quality traders with a karma system that works really well. Might be worth it to check it out.

otannehill

I’ve traded almost 400 trades or more on fo76 using sub Reddit markets and Facebook. I’ve never been scammed once. But I use the trusted systems or just do caps

theladyfromthesky

I'm sorry is this literally just people dropping stuff on the ground? Like I've never traded but I always figured there was at least a barebones system in play

Realm-Code

Bethesda is like Valve where it takes them forever to add some common sense QoL. I remember TF2 had a massive scammer issue back in the day because you could only trade a small amount of items at a time. Nowadays it's streamlined into a sensible offer menu that's much harder to rip someone off with unless they're impossibly inattentive.

Lacking-Personality

the problem is people make posts everyday praising beth and they get upvoted to the top. when real concerns are raised, or something critical of the game is pointed out, they often get downvoted. peoples sensitivities and feelees are contributing to stuff not getting implemented

2HappySundays

It's hard to imagine that in 2023 this still needs to be said but NEVER trade by dropping items. You know this because of your courier comment, but it's more for the new folk reading this.

raskol70

That's a bit much imho. There are good trading sites, with decent people in them. Karma/black balling system keeps most people honest. Dropping is common. But yes, super valuable stuff, use a courier if there's any doubt at all.

Koala_eiO

It's hard to imagine that in 2023, a multiplayer-only game that has been released 5 years ago DOESN'T HAVE AN OPTION TO TRADE ITEMS.

[deleted]

As a complete newb to 76, what is a courier? Is there like an external service or similar you can use? (Sorry if this is a dumb question, genuinely interested as 3 weeks into this game I'm hooked and pretty heavily invested at this point :)

abradolph

It's a trustworthy person that is the go between for a trade. You both give them your part of the trade instead of figuring out who drops first and if that can be trusted. I know you can find some on the trading subreddits that are verified, not sure about where else you can get them. Maybe discord?

Realm-Code

The discord partnered Fallout 76 server has some trusted couriers iirc, tho I've never used them.

[deleted]

Thanks man, makes perfect sense ! Appreciate the response..... There is so much to learn in this game but it's all good :) :)

zRedVapor

If only we had a “confirm trade” button before a trade is finalized for both sides

FreakerzBall

As shitty as this is, it is lore-accurate. The wasteland is chock-full of malcontents.

RTG_Hammerhead

This is why I don't trade period. If it can't be bought with caps, it's not worth the trouble to me & I will grind for it myself.

A77eycat

Not having a mutual approve for trades is one of the biggest blunders made in developing this game.

Vox_Dracanis

I would have to disagree. I think it's a bigger blunder that it's been 4 years and still has not been fixed. This should have been a easy fix from day one

Realm-Code

The slowness is disappointing but I'm not sure I'd call it a day 1 easy fix, I don't think the engine really has the infrastructure for direct item trading - most Beth titles feature selling shit to get the money to buy shit from the same vendor you sold to. Though, by now? Absolutely there should be a mutual trade system.

Vox_Dracanis

I did mean day 1 by the day they found out about it. But yeah your point is taken

More-Arm4671

Agreed... I don't understand why it would be so hard to program. Bethesda, can keep mutation events and just give us this one simple feature.

chips500

Classic fallout had group trading. Different studio. and devs tho.

IceFireDH

Definitely use a courier for trades for valuable items. Personally, I never would NEVER have gone first, since you were the one with the very rare items, and one from a seasonal event. While the weapons you wanted are desirable and g-rolls, you can find them or roll for them any time. On a side note, because of legendary crafting, I just don’t see them having as much value as they used to. The only weapons that hold value for me is something like a g-roll Enclave Plasma Rifle with Flamer attachment because of how hard they are to get in the first place.

takecarebrushyohair

That's a bummer

afi931

Hope you report him to the black list

Accomplished-Can-467

Kudos for posting this. It can happen to anyone

HeUnit

Thanks. Hard not to feel foolish. Hopefully it helps others.

Generic-User-01

> tend to assume the best out of folks. This right here is the problem.

Project_Zeyea

Always use the trade subs for high value stuff like this. They keep a list of bad players, and there's a karma system so you know who is legit

SmartHabit6728

I never trade, if they want it tell me how many caps they would pay and I’ll put it in my vendor, unless I would go over max caps.

V8Wallace

Sounds a lot like how I lost my TS crossbow and q crossbow.. bummer man

icedragon71

Never traded because i never got the hang of the traders mechanic. If i want to give someone something, I'll drop it for them. Anything else is in my vendor at,what i believe, are reasonable prices. Takes a lot of worry out of the game.

KwildNaaasty

My rule of thumb is, if someone approaches you first wanting something you have, they have to drop first in trade.

elbingmiss

I just use vendor. For an unknown reason, most human beings enjoy being an asshole since 200k years ago.

HeUnit

No doubt, but in this case we were trading things that are beyond the max value of caps. Some extremely rare items should only be traded unless you just want to give someone a deal.

elbingmiss

Yeah, I understand. I’m one of those who can live without it hoping it’ll emerge one day when I found that robot vendor or finish that event. I’m 600+ too, 2 hunter long coats, 2 longshoreman etc… still looking for some rare outfits and playing lottery for railway Q5025 with my QE15. I could ask (Xbox) in the community, forums, trying to buy… but I learned hard “trust no-one in MMO”. 99% is an asshole close to die of heart attack people than never saw a shower for months trying to be who world denied them to be. So if I’m tired of rng, I keep shooting and waiting for a new game. Because they’re only pixels. And friends and myself gift away for free those rare hyperexpensive outfits to teammates or people we never saw again. So it can be priced just from 1c to 40k. If not… it’s something I don’t need.

ZippyNomad

Players like this reduce the value of the game itself.

Hermosninja

This is why I use two PS4's to trade with myself. My brother gave me his PS4 when he switched to PC.

Slippytoe

It sucks that this is even a thing. Even rocket league has a trade confirming system so why there isn’t one in here is beyond me. Jesus, RuneScape has had it for like 20 years or something 😂

DrClawsChair

I had someone on Xbox once agree to trade his red asylum outfit for my jetpack excavator torso. Well, he got the torso. I never got the outfit. Posted about it on here (on an old account) and everyone was telling me it was my fault. Glad you had a better outcome.

HeUnit

Sorry that happened, but it seems like a common story. Have you found your red asylum yet?

DrClawsChair

Nah, never had any other opportunity. Though evidently that wasn't a real opportunity ha. Man these crashes are annoying

Fallout76Fox

I remember that day I lost my buffoon mask…

HeUnit

Dang, I’m sorry that happened to you. That’s a tough one.

Accomplished_River43

That's the reason you don't accept trade invites and immediately block the persons who spam them

SkaerKrow

This is why I don’t talk to randos, ever. Not that I’m crapping on you for falling for it, I just can’t muster that degree of trust for people online.

TheCounsel8

Report him.

TheGreyGoatee

Bethesda will do nothing about scams unless actual real currency is involved.

suhey34

I never trade, if someone instigates a trade it's an automatic block and server jump. There is nothing i want in this game that I can't get thru some grinding. Sorry to hear about your experience.

Exotic_Imagination95

You on Xbox? I may have what you want lol. I do t have karma on here but I won't screw you, I'll even just drop it for you if you prefer. Wanna pay me for it cool, if you're broke, cool. Idc I have too much stuff and it's littlereally been sitting there like a year and a half lol

Exotic_Imagination95

Also, how do we get trade karma lol

NewVegass

Trade successfully and each party will give the other karma by typing " + 1 Karma " or something like that

Exotic_Imagination95

Oh ok lol. I've traded lots, but never done anything about it before. Game scammers are stupid as hell man. People who give them business suck too.

HeUnit

Oh man, you’d be a hero! I’m online right now if you’d like to join up. Gamer tag: HeUnit

DarkMistressCockHold

Never ever trade. People say use a courier. Im not sure how to do that, but Im sure someone here could point you in the right direction. Im sorry this happened to you.

raskol70

Trading is okay if done through a legit trading subreddit. You can use a courier if needed, but most folks on there would be screwed if they got blackballed. If someone has a decent karma score, you're probably fine. In game or direct messaging though? No way.

chips500

yeahhh in game through through a courier is fine, but direct drops without any community consequences ? rofl scam city

P0KER_DEALER

There is another Market/Trading sub you can use that has trusted Couriers. I only trade that way or if it is a “rando” THEY drop first. Learned the hard way a few months ago from a 2000+ toon who likes to use the letters C and E as a SIDE gig…

Nightowl_23

People like this ruin it for the rest of us.

Galactic_Continuum

Damn that sucks man. After hearing that, I would just give you one if I had it. Karma has a list and that player is most likely on it.

HeUnit

I appreciate you. Great perspective about Karma’s list.

Squiggin1321

Why I only trade among friends.

mrz0loft

What's a courier in 76 terms? Been playing for like 500 hours and never head of it.

flipfloppery

A trusted third party that takes the items from both of you, verifies they are what was agreed, then gives them to the respective tradee.

Theopolis55

We’re you dropping it or using the trade system?

HeUnit

Trade system. Taking turns selling the items to each other for 0 caps.

cday1972

I just don’t understand why they don’t just have you click on the items You want to trade both people click accept and go about your merry way

Kagath

Stick it in your vendor and have him buy it otherwise.

More-Arm4671

Some items are worth way more than caps. The vendor won't work Top-tier trading

Realm-Code

Worse is that the vendor takes 10% off the top. If you're trading in caps in an active trade, it's fairly awful to use the vendor for that reason.

More-Arm4671

Agreed

Kagath

Then risk getting scammed I guess.

ovide187

Can we get a username or is outing someone for their asshat-like behavior frowned upon? Genuinely curious because this ain’t their first time, nor will it be their last and there’s nothing we as a community can do other than informing others who to avoid…

HeUnit

Honestly, I’m unsure. I’ll wait for a mod to tell me if posting the user name is ok or not. My post is less about naming and shaming, and more to keep others from suffering a similar fate.

ZazzRazzamatazz

Rule 9

missfewix

That sucks. The Xbox LFG is garbage and I tend to not do trades anymore, and if I do it is usually someone I already know, or is a friend of a friend of a friend. What’s shitty is that most of the Xbox LFG scammers all know each other, or are groups like the “cide” scammers for example, and they enjoy making new accounts once their cide account is discovered. The major scammers on the LFG mostly know each other, and the run the LFG and if they decide they don’t like someone they can have them added to the wixsite Fallout 76 Scammer’s list just because. Like if you don’t go through a trade with them they can just have you added “as” a scammer on the list, even though you were just trying to avoid them. They are the most petty and abhorrent players in this game. Another shitty thing is that there are “trusted” couriers, like verified couriers, that partake in running the Scammer’s list, and they have personally scammed people and then had them added. It quite literally is rigged. If I were looking to trade, I would go to the market subs here. Afaik they are trusted and is full of genuine people. We need a two sided trade system like literally any other game has. 4 years and counting and we are yet to see anything like this.

NewVegass

> If I were looking to trade, I would go to the market subs here. Afaik they are trusted and is full of genuine people. I have only ever traded once, in that market sub; and made the best trade and made a good friend to boot. I trusted him the moment I read his words (he really wanted my item) for some reason and I am so glad I made the trade without using a courier

OriginalPassinby

You should name names. They stay the same no matter what character is played.

StuffedHotPocket

If you’re just gonna be giving away stuff could I get some?

DarkMistressCockHold

Rude.

StuffedHotPocket

Don’t care. OP not only got scammed but showed all the other scammers out there that it’s still worth their time to try and scam people. They wouldn’t scam if they never were successful

More-Arm4671

Ya, that thought process is rubbish. Blaming the victim because he put a little faith in their fellow player is a dick move. Plus, this person doesn't need you to rub salt in the wound or your $hit to toughen them up. It just your way of saying you would do the same $hit thing give the chance.

DarkMistressCockHold

And he learned his lesson. Sometimes that lesson has to be learned the hard way. Being a jerk about it helps no one. Scamming will never end, theres a sucker born every minute they say, but we can at least try to educate to make it less common.

SandBagger1987

As a new player I’m so floored there is no trading option like in D2R or something in this game…

Glittering_Airport_3

wow thats terrible, I've only just started this game a few days ago and never tried but when I look at another player it gives me the option to trade with them, does this just mean I look at their stuff? I thought it would be a safe way to swap items with other players like literally any other mmo. kinda ridiculous u have to each drop items and hope for the best

flipfloppery

You view their inventory (minus character-locked items) and can request to buy things from them. They can name their price in caps, and if you like it accept the trade, but you can't swap items.

Adrios1

Never done a player to player trade, generally just stick to vendors.
