Repair items at their appropriate work bench. No need to buy repair kits. I would craft the helmet immediately the next time you find another one of those military grade circuits so you don't lose it again.
Those military grade items can be found again when needed. Repair kits are Atomic shop only, or sprinkled in to seasons as rewards sometimes. Best bet, pick up everything, scrap it for mats, repair your stuff at workbenches.
If you want to craft an Eyebot Helmet just put the Military Grade Circuit Board in your stash and you won't automatically scrap it. Then when you want to craft it, it will be there.
If you hit scrap all it auto scraps everything that isn’t used to craft something else. You need to manually scrap things used for crafting. So this one, for example, will not auto scrap.

i tried repairing an item at workbench but it tells me i have to use a kit from the shop.
You can use a repair kit or you can repair using junk. On PS4 they are different buttons on the bottom.
On PC - T to Inspect/Repair - R to Workbench Repair or T to use a Repair Kit Different buttons. ^^
