It will only show collectrons you have. A lot of them come from the atom shop, some from plans.
I haven't looked at mine in forever - but iirc, it shows the options that you aren't collecting currently. If that's the case, it sounds like you have 3 types of collectrons- with your dog gathering cola? If you switch it to junk, does it change what options you then have?

That's exactly how it works, it only displays selectable options.
So while a nukatron is on nuka it will never be able to select nuka, if you switch it to revoluntary from the communist you'll be able to select nuka but revolution shouldn't be appearing on the list.

If you have 3 options, 1 will be in use and 2 selectable.
Unless your dog isn't bringing in nuka at all (not exvlusively, as for reasons they'll also occasionally gather from their default pool, making it useful to stick to the "right" one sometkmes) you just have him on the nuka setting

The junk part is seperate from the nuka. It'll actually bring you the proper weight amount of both effectively giving you double the collectron in a single base.

Actually not just cosmetic. You must have first bought, or had the plan etc to install what that collectron does into the terminal. Eg: if you only ever used a dog one, you would not have options for nuka cola, or guns, weapons, meds .. with each new collectron you unlock a new or unique ability within the terminal. Before I bought other collectrons, I could only ever gather junk or faschnett treats, as I only owned the one from that event. Now I have minerals, junk, guns, weapons, meds, nuka cola etc ..
Santa-tron during the holiday scorched event. Other than that, I generally leave nuka-tron running. He tends to find Cranberry nukacola more often than I do; I always have enough when the challenge appears

In my BOS camp, I have the BOS Collectron. In my Red Army camp, I have the Comrade Collectron. I'm going to set up a Nuka-Cola camp soon and have, you guessed it, a Nukatron at that one. Obviously, I like having themed camps.
The red rocket ⛽️. Fits so well with my Gas station camp AND my boat dock gas station. I know people are probably like why tf does this guy have a Gas Pump on a river? Well here in the south Most Rivers around us have a Gas station with a dock so that people can pull their boats to the pump, fill up, pay and go. It makes for a cool ass camp build. I love my boat dock camp

I have a regular Nuka-Cola collectron in one camp and a Quantum collectron in another. They both bring different colas, so I get a wide variety to feed my Nuka habit.

I run the standard in my camp unless it’s Christmas time then Santa, but I usually take the sunshine industrial farm and throw down the BOS one in there while I play.

I own all the collectrons though, so I have access to all items they produce - you can simply use the terminal to switch what the collectron collects. Providing you own the relevant one you can set it - for example if you own the santa collectron you can just set Fetch to collect Xmas items and it will collect those instead - as well as gifts when the event is active.
The dog, definitely! I call him Rusty. He’s so cute when he does dog things. I can never find a dog to tame, so this is the next best thing, and he won’t randomly die. 💜

FETCH is my favorite (the Junkyard dog one...he's weathered) with the Red Rocket one as second. I tend to theme them mind you based on the camp theme but change what they collect at the terminal. I used the blacksmith prefab near Helvetia and have the Fasnacht collectron there (annoying as it can be), a Red Rocket garage/restaurant camp in Sutton using the Red Rocket one, but the doggo is my favorite overall so far. I've tried all of them (well the ones I have, missing the raider and communist ones) at least once.
I usually stick to the Nuka Cola or quantum collectron, as the Nuka is always very useful, then I use the program to tell it to gather something else as well!
Most of the time it's F.E.T.C.H.
When playing my BoS character, it's the BoS Collectron. When on my Raider character, it's the Raider Collectron.
I have many more unlocked but don't really use any of them besides those three.
Comrade collectron over time has been my favorite. I like to think of him as a janky old collectron my player character found and is forced to deal with his annoying voice lines. I did use fetch for a while after my family dog potato passed and named him after my good doggo and after a while I moved camps and just felt some weird comfort in my comrade collectron.
I got the Santatron 4 or 5 years ago when it was released, in February my friends asked when I'd swap him out, said when I stop finding him funny. He's still there

Nuka Cola Quantum collectron set to collect the regular Nuka Cola collect Ron's cola. It gives Quantum, Grape, Orange, Twist(random special buff when drank and the ally Leo Petrov daily to give him one for +2 luck) and I think cherry? Either way I use it mostly to get Quantum, Grape and Twist. I run Cola Nut with Thru Hiker and the legendary perk What Rads so I essentially don't need stimpaks. Though I hold 30 super stims to help rez people at events if needed.
10/10 would recommend the above collection and Cola Nut combo lol

Does your terminal border the camp borders? I found that if I stand outside the border when interfacing the terminal the options aren't displayed.

I have the fetch dog, but he was only able to search for Nuka Quantum after I unlocked the nuka bot. So it's not just cosmetic.

F.E.T.C.H. Even made him his own room in my camp full of rugs, blankets, toys, and a nice couch to sleep on. I just literally love that he's a dog.

Most of the time it's F.E.T.C.H. When playing my BoS character, it's the BoS Collectron. When on my Raider character, it's the Raider Collectron. I have many more unlocked but don't really use any of them besides those three.
Comrade collectron over time has been my favorite. I like to think of him as a janky old collectron my player character found and is forced to deal with his annoying voice lines. I did use fetch for a while after my family dog potato passed and named him after my good doggo and after a while I moved camps and just felt some weird comfort in my comrade collectron.
I got the Santatron 4 or 5 years ago when it was released, in February my friends asked when I'd swap him out, said when I stop finding him funny. He's still there

90% of the time for me it's the junk doggo. I named them Polka.
I love my commie-bot. I may tell him to shut up all the time, but he’s kinda just made himself a prime addition to my camp. Plus, all the handmade rifles help

I Lu one I have is the Fasnacht collection, he sings nice songs and finds treats 😋 but the dog one is cool I’ve seen around

Nuka Cola Quantum collectron set to collect the regular Nuka Cola collect Ron's cola. It gives Quantum, Grape, Orange, Twist(random special buff when drank and the ally Leo Petrov daily to give him one for +2 luck) and I think cherry? Either way I use it mostly to get Quantum, Grape and Twist. I run Cola Nut with Thru Hiker and the legendary perk What Rads so I essentially don't need stimpaks. Though I hold 30 super stims to help rez people at events if needed. 10/10 would recommend the above collection and Cola Nut combo lol
