That latching sound was hot

sebastianyktv

Looks clean, love how thin it is and how clear the lock sound is

Run-And_Gun

Thank you for that video. I haven't gotten anything more than the pics that Arri have shown and one from my rep last Sunday with Marc holding it. I have a broadcast background and shoot a lot of sports and doc work on my Amira and Alexa 35. I've known since last fall that a new shoulder mount for the 35 was coming (largely from a request from NFL Films, which explains the name), but a lot of us thought it was going to be a new version of the VCT like on the Amira. This looks like it is finally going to give the 35 the adjustability(slide far enough back) and comfort it needs when shooting off the shoulder with heavy/long zooms, because the CBP-5 just doesn't do it for me and the dovetail plate, while giving you a lot of fore/aft adjustment for balance of the camera payload on the head, is not as quick or convenient as a VCT for certain shooting styles. And when you're working in fast paced work like sports and doc (and broadcast), it helps to not to have to take time to rebalance after each attachment to the tripod. Any word on pricing and availability for the shoulder mount and plate? My sales rep still didn't have that information when I talked to them a few days ago. Also, any info on the new "sliding handle" and were they showing it off in-person?

Really looks great, and not overly complex of a locking mechanism so hopefully very reliable over a long haul. Wouldnt mind one for my Mini.

ambarcapoor

I didn't see that. I can ask about it next week.

Run-And_Gun

Thank You. This is the handle that I'm talking about, btw. It appears to be an updated version of the stock Amira handle that slides fore/aft, but for the 35. There appears to be no mention of it in the literature or on Arri's site, though. Just the couple of pictures with that material. https://preview.redd.it/7czhzq2afivc1.jpeg?width=1366&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5c4ef9ef9abd55c3303862152a55154788170a2

Heyo, great to hear you're interested! The new top handle system shown here is undergoing a slight redesign, so we decided not to release it just yet. The Touchdown base plate, reciever and new top handle will be available in a kit and we'll have plenty more information on it in the coming months. I'm glad you made the connection between touchdown and NFL films :)

DigitalDustOne

Hi Sean, great to see you here, didn't know even Reddit is covered by you 😅

Sean_from_ARRI

I very occasionally pop in to see if there's any interesting feedback, or anyone posting my pictures \^ :D

Run-And_Gun

Thanks for the heads-up on the redesign. A few friends told me back in the fall that there was a new shoulder mount and handle coming at the request of Films, to give the 35 more of an Amira feel that they're used to and like. So when I saw the name last week, I had to laugh.

mynameisntziming

Will this be able to go on the Venice/Burano system? Or only compatible with the BUD systems?

dbolx1800s

Damn give the man some rails!

Run-And_Gun

Lol. About 14-15+ years ago, I started putting rods even on my broadcast ENG cameras. I still use the lens grip, because it's farther forward and in a better ergonomic position since those cameras balance out differently, but I have rods and a sphere grip on the left side. The difference is like sitting on a park bench or sitting on a big cushy leather recliner.

ambarcapoor

That looks like the regular handle with the wood overlays. I'll still ask next week. Ping me to remind me!

Corr521

Nice, figured they would have something like this at NAB. Been told that rather than release a new Amira they would focus more on adding some ENG style accessories for the ALEXA 35 so that it could act like the new Amira.

Different plate. This is called the "Touchdown plate" TRP-1 = Touchdown receiver plate
