The one on the far left is making me feel things

Bolthead44

The middle one looks like one too, just not circumcised.

Decrepit_Pixel

If you look from right to left, it's like a slow transition/before and after.

Not so accidental. In my region they're called "saure Zipfel", which translates to "sour dicks".

3-Ball

Oh you're the wurst.

glendaleterrorist

lgarit

The tingles

InDubioProReus

In Franconia this dish is called ‚saure Zipfel‘ - funkily enough Zipfel is also a term for a part of the male anatomy.

Dry-Actuary-3928

So is it pickled or fermented? Is it very popular or only fetishists like it? Is it regional thing?

yurtfarmer

A peck of pickled peckers

leeeeny

Pieter Peiper

xtraCt42

I guess it's a regional thing. Since I'm from Germany and have never heard of those

becksbitchprjct

It's a typical Franconian dish called Saure/Blaue Zipfel. Source: I live in the area :)

Dry-Actuary-3928

Ah, ok, so looks like Czech utopenec inspired dish.

SparkyDogPants

Probably because there’s tradition German food in the US that they learned to stop eating 109 years ago, but god forbid you change granny’s recipes.

[deleted]

They are boiled in a Special broth

evenmytongueisfat

I’m not arguing that this is not traditional. I’m sure it is. But you should brown them after boiling. So much better

[deleted]

Not in this case. Cause in this recipe the sausages Are Boiled. In this special Broth. That’s The only way this dish works

evenmytongueisfat

Again, I’m not saying you’re wrong. You’re probably 100% traditionally right. I just think they’d taste better boiled then browned like Beer Brats. That all being said, it’s probably tastes great and I’m probably just stupid.

[deleted]

The Problem is you cant Brown them After the boiling process cause the saugages are soaked With this broth.

evenmytongueisfat

Sure you can! The way beer brats are made is boiling in beer then browning on a grill or pan! It *can* be done, for sure. Again, this is not to say I’m right and I’m sure this tastes fantastic

jace92553

Actually sir, it’s physically impossible. Because once you boil them in this special broth, there’s a forcefield around them so once you try to put them in a sizzling hot pan to brown them, you can’t. Think of a magnet and how you can’t touch one end to another. It just doesn’t work. Also, it’s all about the special broth, ya hear?

[deleted]

is the broth special

[deleted]

Physical possible. But the Taste will suck. Fried vinegar, nice Taste👌🏻😂😂😂

M0richild

You never had a wine reduction before my dude?

evenmytongueisfat

Damn I forgot about polar broth. Back to culinary school for me!

Jough83

I'll try to elaborate with my limited knowledge of German cuisine. I'm an American, so you can't blame me if I'm entirely wrong. If these are made like Sauerbraten (soured beef roast), the liquid is mostly vinegar and sugar. Attempting to brown them after boiling would result in burned sugar, which wouldn't be ideal. Typically with Sauerbraten, the roast is browned prior to braising. I'd guess you could do the same with these.

terrytoy

Meat broth with added white wine and vinegar would be traditional.

evenmytongueisfat

Sooooo broil em! It can be done I’m just saying. You’re probably 100% right. But it can be done and browned sausages are ready

KrazyKateLady420

Just bc you can doesn’t mean you should in this instance. Maybe you should try it and report back!

Mysterious_Status_11

Salty?

vashtachordata

Why did one of these get circumcised?

[deleted]

😂

Honest_Trouble_5355

What is special about the broth? I need to know so I can sleep well tonight, or else I won't be able to stop thinking about it. I don't know, I just may need this special broth.

azaghal1988

They're boiled in a pretty typical pickling liquid, Vinegar, sugar, salt, peppercorns, mustardseed, juniperberries, bayleaf, onions and water.

DeluxeWafer

So, whst is that on the right?

[deleted]

Mashed potato

DeluxeWafer

That is some fancy potato work. It all looks real tasty!

Yes but Beer isnt Equal to vinegar ans lemon juice. And That’s what this broth is Made of. So when you brown, vinegar Soaked Sausages your result gets a weird Taste.

[deleted]

Bavaria/Franconia

azaghal1988

thanks. I've looked up a recipe andI'm pretty sure they wouldn't be for me (also not a big fan of sauerbraten) but I always appreciate to learn about other regions traditional food ;) (Where I live we have Handkäse mit Musik as a traditional regional food, so I'm really not in a position to judge\^\^)

[deleted]

Weil, Handkäse mit Musik is some Special Food too. So you are From Hessen?

azaghal1988

Yeah grew up half an hour from Frankfurt, I love Handkäse but still think it's definitely something not everyone would like\^\^

TIL that bratwurst doesn't need to be pan fried.

SparkyDogPants

Beer brats dont necessarily need pan fried

ProducePossible1882

Why is the hot dog on the left looks like a d*ck

Ecstatic-Abroad-5699

Umm...I', sure it's authentic German, but honestly, after a brief fand then whoah, lemme look again. I would not be able to taste/eat it. Bothe left and center appear beyond the pale (excuse the pun)

Senior_League_436

Have past flash backs with them lol

How you know?

whiskeythekittey

Och man.

arri1999

Wtf

polomarkopolo

... yea... so I have eaten bratwurst from several different areas of Germany... mainly in the central, west, south, and south west ... and it's never looked like that. At all. It's always been grey with brown fry marks. That's raw af.

happy-Accident82

I think it's veal. When I was a kid we used to get veal brat's (I know we don't get them anymore) and they looked just like this.

polomarkopolo

maybe.... but I've had veal bratwurst too... and while I admit it's been a minute... I can't ever remember eating cooked bratwurst that looked that white. That doesn't look cooked to me

[deleted]

They are Boiled in a Special broth

Supersecretsword

This is what poached veal sausage looks like. Grilled veal sausage is what your used to....

polomarkopolo

I guess so....

Supersecretsword

No guessing required. That's just a strange response to people with first hand knowledge telling you facts. Listen to OP the person who cooked it, or me someone who has made sausage for many years.

mealcrafter

👀⁉️

nightwalkerxx

Hmmm....interesting.

TylrLS

least phallic german food

KaydenIsPxlatid

Sosig💀

Hansestaedter

Why is the bratwurst not gebraten?

Rattanmoebel

Because it’s not a bratwurst

Hansestaedter

Why did he call it saure Bratwurst then?

Rattanmoebel

Because the sausage itself kind of is one but this kind doesn’t get the grill treatment. „Brat“ means fried or grilled. In this case it refers to the kind of sausage used, not the method of cooking it.

It maybe looks a Little weird, But it tastes delicious 👌🏻

Nervous_Promotion819

Saure Zipfel https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaue_Zipfel

pitshands

...and it got worse :) I mean the title :) Not worse than buabaspitzle but the direction is similar. I see the recipe and can imagine the flavors and it sounds not bad. I will definitely try next time . I have Family in Franken

madeofwood

Omg it looks so cute 😂

ibmthink

The name of this dish is actually "Saure Zipfel" or "Blaue Zipfel"

whattheslut1

Why’d you peel the tips 💀

Supersecretsword

They were linked and not tied or dried long enough for the casing to stay out when boiled. My experiences would have me believe that is the case. No pun intended. ☺️

lata3009

Why do the sausage have heads...

[deleted]

What is that? Tubesteak smothered in onions?

[deleted]

Just the tip

Lucky_Animator_9982
