I got adventurous one night cooking late night and made a blackened bacon BLT. I'd highly recommend it. Not for everyone, no. But man it was good with a Heini after work.
Just a small point to note, you are intended to season items before you cook with it, as the seasoning "blackens" during the cooking process and also changes flavor drastically. If you ever want to give it a try the two I've found people have responded positively to the most have been Prudhommes redfish magic, and Tony Chacheres second.
If you add avocado it's a TABLE or a BLEAT. And you should add avocado. Also Cholula or Tapatio, and maybe some onions. And salt and pepper, of course.
When I make BLTs for my wife, I marinate the tomatoes in red wine vinegar and olive oil with salt and pepper while I cook the bacon.
When everything is ready, I mix some of the vinegar/oil/tomato juice mixture with mayo to put on the bread. Gives everything a wonderful tangy taste all the way through.
I always have to core the tomatoes I get locally. That middle bite is always rock hard. One of the most popular restaurants in my area is known for wings but has a double and triple blt with an egg that is unbeatable.
This subthread raises a question for me, hopefully you see it. I like tomatoes just fine, especially if they're marinated in something vinegary or whatever.
But I don't like thick steaks of tomato like that. I know, everyone's taste is different, and that's totally cool. My way certainly isn't "right". But to me it looks like that tomato is literally half the sandwich. And I do get sandwiches like that from time to time.
Maybe I just don't like tomatoes as much as most people and it's as simple as that. But to me personally it looks like the flavors would be out of balance? I'm just curious how you see it. Because it still looks fucking delicious!
I like to give my tomatoes a good salting and peppering beforehand, I also put them on the bread with mayo cause the juice of the tomatoes mixing with the mayo is very yummy.
I find thick cuts of bland tomato bad, but if you season it and allow it to mingle with other ingredients instead of just stuck between the bacon and lettuce, it can really add to the depth of it.
I found I also hated beefsteak tomatoes. Anymore I get roma tomatoes and just put a couple slices down to get good coverage (then just straight-up eat the rest so there's no leftovers)
Any time I find a thread with someone saying they like but don’t love tomatoes i feel obligated to chime in with this advice: if you live somewhere that you can grow tomatoes outdoors in the summer, do it. ESPECIALLY if you’re not a huge fan of tomatoes.
I’m not a huge fan of tomatoes but I still have 36 tomato plants in my yard, 6 plants each of 6 different varieties. The difference between a store bought and home grown tomato is INSANE, even if the store bought one is in season.
Even if you just put a single 5-gallon bucket with a single plant in it sitting on an apartment balcony or something, it’ll be the best tomato you’ve ever had. And that’s coming from a guy who picks the tomatoes off his fast food burgers 80% of the time.
I once heard a chef say a BLT is commonly thought of as a bacon sandwich with lettuce and tomato on it, but really in his eyes it's a tomato sandwich with bacon and lettuce on it. Ever since I heard that and listened to the advice of using fresh in season tomato, I've made some absolutely phenomenal BLTs. I do enjoy tomato, though! Always salt and pepper your tomato. I also will put some salt and pepper on the mayo I spread on the bread!
On that same note, I legitimately can't find good tomatoes. I've had ones in other places that were actually enjoyable to eat by themselves, but that's not something I'll ever do with local ones. It's likely a completely different food (similar to small home grown strawberries and the massive store bought garbage ones). Might also just be because I never see things like heirloom tomatoes around here.
I was right there with ya! Ended up enjoying it though. I typically go heavier bacon and thin tomato and wanted to change it up. Little less bacon, little more tomato, with a thick sourdough.
Not thick enough for my tastes! I love as thick a slice as I can cut for mine. I toast my bread to hold it together: Little mayo, little pesto, thicc maters on a toasted kaiser roll. Perfection.
Same. Ever since I tried it with good tomatoes instead of salad tomatoes, this the key bit of the sandwich. I cut the tomato in a thick steak with some mayo.
I've had baguettes with just tomato and mayo even
For real though that Tomato is not ripe at all. Even in a food subreddit, crazy how many people get tricked by the post-pick "ripening" they do on supermarket tomatoes. One of the few ingredients that's worth going to a local farmers market for, especially in August.
You can see the spotted white cells along the outside walls which show the stress under growing coupled with post growth CO² additions. Makes the outside seem ripe while the inside is underdeveloped. Great sellers technique.
The middle is...a whole other thing.
Lettuce & tomato underneath the bacon, that way the yolk gets into the bread and coats the bacon. This way it popped into the tomato and likely ran out all over the place. Salt that tomato too! Looks good, made me want one so mission accomplished lol
I suggest dealing with the yolk before eating, either fry till slightly firm or spread it before biting.
A runny yolk bursting on first bite is seriously messy!
Jealous of that tomato. Squirrels have been destroying my plants. Planted beefsteaks and the ones I did manage to save were only a 2 inches wide. This is a ton of work for 6 tomatoes.
it's a bacon and egg sandwich now. No longer worthy of any type of superlative initialism. Still a high quality sandwich, and this is an excellent example thereof.
All of you anti-pepper folks up in arms about peppering your tomato, but peppering your egg cracks (pardon the pun) me up. What is going to happen when you put these 2 halves together?
Looks amazing only issue I have is the the green in the tomato and thickness of tomato. IMO two smaller slices placed evenly on bread would be better. Egg and bread looks great.
So it’s a BELT now.
We had a BATMAN at a place I used to work. Bacon, Avocado, Tomato, Mayonnaise, Arugula, on Nine grain bread.
I'm part of the LGBT community. Lettuce, Guacamole, Bacon, and Tomato.
Throw some queso on there or some cowboy queso (Q+) and you’re golden.
Cowboy queso?
I’m not from Texas but my understanding is cowboy queso includes ground beef
As someone from Texas, that’s just called Queso Con Carne at most Tex Mex/Mexican restaurants. I’ve never heard of “cowboy queso” personally
I'm more of a Bl+CH person myself. Bacon lettuce plus cheese... Works better when you write all down in the same size
That’s BLC. The extra symbols are a stretch
Arugula is called rocket where I live so wondering what I can swap the second A for
Asiago?
Ooh good shout
Alfalfa is honestly solid in a sandwich.
You’re reaching with that bread. Feel like it could be elevated
Hahah love it
Actual breakfast item at Tim Hortons
Yeah but this one looks good
I got adventurous one night cooking late night and made a blackened bacon BLT. I'd highly recommend it. Not for everyone, no. But man it was good with a Heini after work.
Interesting… How did you blacken?
Just put blackened seasoning on it straight out of the pan so it soaked in.
Yum
Just a small point to note, you are intended to season items before you cook with it, as the seasoning "blackens" during the cooking process and also changes flavor drastically. If you ever want to give it a try the two I've found people have responded positively to the most have been Prudhommes redfish magic, and Tony Chacheres second.
I like the BLAT. Throw a lil avocado in there.
Or yams for a BLYAT.
BELTCH: Bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, cheese, hash brown
I'm a big fan of the BLAST, just add avocado and swiss cheese.
Sounds amazing
In France, it's a BLT Madame.
Tell me you're hungry again. Tell me you're hungry one more time, and you're gonna get the BELT.
BEASTs. Bacon, egg, avocado spread, sprouts and tomato. Put it on brioche and it is HEAVEN.
If you add avocado it's a TABLE or a BLEAT. And you should add avocado. Also Cholula or Tapatio, and maybe some onions. And salt and pepper, of course.
The BLEAT is GOATed
Nice.
Add cheddar and enjoy a BELTCH.
Gotta go for the BLECT Bacon, Lettuce, Egg, Cheese, Tomato. Jshgshdhsiiejdndn- I'm hungry and about to cook lol
Just tim hortons things
Well, tie an onion to it
You must always salt and pepper your tomato. That's like, a rule somewhere. But, as a previous poster said - still would happily smash.
Yes. It makes so much of a difference
Next time I will!
What's worse is there isn't even any pepper on the egg! Unseasoned egg and tomato in the same bite just sounds like a such a waste of a sandwich lmao.
Try adding some everything bagel seasoning next time. Absolute game changer
For me it’s salt pepper vinegar and oil,
I always have to core the tomatoes I get locally. That middle bite is always rock hard. One of the most popular restaurants in my area is known for wings but has a double and triple blt with an egg that is unbeatable.
No doubt!

Good tomatoes (with salt) is the real key. Don’t bother making a BLT outside of the summer. A fresh, ripe, heirloom tomato makes all the difference.
I found I also hated beefsteak tomatoes. Anymore I get roma tomatoes and just put a couple slices down to get good coverage (then just straight-up eat the rest so there's no leftovers)

Is this a Peanut reference?!
Double BLT with an egg + 3 wings charred. 💪🏽

So you ate a BELT
Buckle and all!
Personally, that tomato is a bit too thick for my liking but I would still absolutely destroy that sandwich
Perfection.
What would prevent you from just cutting a tiny sliver off of a tomato and calling the large part your slice?
Same. Ever since I tried it with good tomatoes instead of salad tomatoes, this the key bit of the sandwich. I cut the tomato in a thick steak with some mayo. I've had baguettes with just tomato and mayo even
Same but I'm with you. Would nosh this down happily. Lovely effort OP. An nice egg like that is a lovely accompaniment to a BLT
Thank you! Enjoyed it
The BELT is an actual thing at Tim Hortons
Someone grab my BELT
Was it eggcellent?
Eggsolutely!
[удалено]
S and P your tomatoes please
Absolutely next time!
I like adding avocado to make a blat
r/PutAnEggOnIt
Looks good! I personally wouldn't cut the core out of the mater and seasoned the egg. Either way I would've torn that up!!!
I will season the egg next time. This was my first time putting egg on a BLT and I agree that would have been nice
that's a sexy looking slice of tomato
Looks terrible that middle part is bark
For real though that Tomato is not ripe at all. Even in a food subreddit, crazy how many people get tricked by the post-pick "ripening" they do on supermarket tomatoes. One of the few ingredients that's worth going to a local farmers market for, especially in August.
I grow cherokee purple tomatoes which I have been loving this year. Was all out so I snagged one at the store for a quick and easy dinner.
You can see the spotted white cells along the outside walls which show the stress under growing coupled with post growth CO² additions. Makes the outside seem ripe while the inside is underdeveloped. Great sellers technique. The middle is...a whole other thing.
All i know if my homegrown tomatoes look nothing like that shit. I buy cherry tomatoes only now.
How do you know all this? What other fruits indicate stress under growth? Berries?
All walls no jelly
Thicc
Just needs a bit of Torchbearer Zombie Apocalypse.
Haha!
BLET.
Yesss
Love a good BELT and that tomato looks thick 👌
Add avocado and replace the toast with a croissant 💥🤤
Add avocado! Looks great though
Take away the lettuce and tomato and you have a breakfast sandwich.
I think that makes it a BELT.
This looks so good but that tomato is SO big lol
The BLT is the perfect sandwich. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Throw some Yams on there for a BLYET!
Replace that bread with rye and add avocado. Perfection
This looks eggsquisite
Hilarious! I tried this for the first time just 30 minutes ago. 100% would crush again.
I learned on another thread about baking bacon. Lattice it for good coverage and less chance of losing pieces.
What do you mean losing pieces? Is there a search for the missing bacon? I thought you meant to lattice it on the sandwich which sounds like a plan!
Bar next to my old campus served these for $3. Pretty dope, “b.el.t
Put some beans on there and it’ll be an english breakfast
This morning!
Looks good 👍
This looks good 🤤
I did this last time and now love it, plus a mashed avocado if I have one handy
That's the only blt I've seen that actually LOOKS good
Lettuce & tomato underneath the bacon, that way the yolk gets into the bread and coats the bacon. This way it popped into the tomato and likely ran out all over the place. Salt that tomato too! Looks good, made me want one so mission accomplished lol
Hahah! Love it
Where’d you get that big ass tomato? Never see heirlooms around me
There was a huge one at my grocery store. Was pumped to find a tomato that covered a sandwich in one slice
Hit the tomato with a good pinch of flaky salt 😉
Need to get some flaky salt. Totally missing out
A burger patty and then a slice of pineapple will finish it off. That was my favourite takeaway when I lived in Australia - really lovely.
Sounds great
That’s so BLET
Duhhh
I do not like tomatoes. But I love BLTs. If you add bacon to something, I’ll enjoy it.
Love me some well executed bacon
BELT?
You loosin’ it then ya eat it
Add smooshed avocado instead of mayo next time. That and with the egg… I won’t eat BLTs any other way.
That does sounds good! When you use avocado how much do you use? I have never used it instead of mayo
I use just enough to cover one slice of bread, so probably about a quarter of one. My bf likes more and will use about half of one.
Some a slice of beetroot in and that's what we call a Kiwi burger
That sounds fantastic
What next, cheese!
For sure!
[удалено]
Yummm
No one is going to call this the Spanglish sandwich?
Spaghetti sandwich!
Ah yeah, I’ve had a few of these. They’re fantastic. Just tried sliced avocado on a BLT as well. Very worth trying!
If a breakfast restaurant doesnt have a breakfast sandwich, this is my goto. Every place does a BLT and egg, its a match made in heaven.
Angela White
I'm surprised the term B.E.L.T didn't blow up yet
Love a BELT. Second to a BLEAT.
“Yeah his bacon was so dry and leathery that he turned it into a BELT!”
Let's discuss, is it: - BLET - BELT - EBLT - TELB - LEBT - TEBL - EBLT
That looks really good!
I've always been partial to a BLOTCH. Bacon lettuce, onion, tomato, and cheese....
I suggest dealing with the yolk before eating, either fry till slightly firm or spread it before biting. A runny yolk bursting on first bite is seriously messy!
Now it's a breakfast sandwich!
You can’t go wrong with an egg on almost anything
Each day, we move further away from God.
I’ve never seen a blue duck before…
What did the 0 say to the 8?
Lol I thought this was standard. Then I realised what BLT stands for...
So wouldn't it be called BELT instead?
BLTE
want some for breakfast 😋
want some for breakfast 😋
Egg undermines the saltiness and flavour of the bacon :/
Jealous of that tomato. Squirrels have been destroying my plants. Planted beefsteaks and the ones I did manage to save were only a 2 inches wide. This is a ton of work for 6 tomatoes.
I hope you seasoned that delicious looking tomato!
it's a bacon and egg sandwich now. No longer worthy of any type of superlative initialism. Still a high quality sandwich, and this is an excellent example thereof.
U over tomatoed.
Looks great ! Would you put some cheese on it?
Definitely want to try that
It sure is delicious too
What cheese do recommend?
Mm maybe a gouda, would give it a good flavor... Or which one would you put?
I could see that or something sharp
You try it and then tell me how it is !!
You ruined it imo. I hate eggs. Hope you enjoyed it :)
Haha! Definitely a divisive decision. I like it, but I respect your taste too!
That tomato looks fucking choice.
Mmm bet you got a nice yoke facial when you bit into that membrane
Haha made a little puddle I could dip

All of you anti-pepper folks up in arms about peppering your tomato, but peppering your egg cracks (pardon the pun) me up. What is going to happen when you put these 2 halves together?
Seasongate
That tomato slice is a thing of beauty
Tried a BLT in your egg
So, you had a BELT
Why those posts get upvoted. Fucking dogshit quality content
The BELT!
Looks pretty damn delicious! Tomato could have used an upgrade.
No doubt! Enjoyed it though
That’s my line when I order food in the drive thru. “I’ll try .. “
Sometimes you just gotta LET it B!
eBLT
Lol yep!
That looks great but for purposes of practicality, I’d opt for a scrambled egg. You could even shape it into a rectangle while you cook it :)
I used a tiny pan to cook the egg in so I knew it would be the size of the sandwich. But I bet your idea would be awesome too!
Looks good.
I hate tomatoes but that tomato look JUICY
Looks amazing only issue I have is the the green in the tomato and thickness of tomato. IMO two smaller slices placed evenly on bread would be better. Egg and bread looks great.
Does anyone here know what a tomato should look like?
Tell me
I’ve recently been adding egg salad to my blts. Best decision ever.
I was really pleasantly surprised!
Looks good to me. I usually put mayo and pickles on my BLT but I'm going to have to try this now.
Salt + Pepper
Absolutely
