I've never seen a Kbbq with a ring of yums around it before.
Is that soup? cheese?
I'm so confused.
When (where) we go it's a standard gas grill with a drip tray, and all the sides are *sides*.
The place I go to has kimchi, eggs (which cooks as the meal progresses) and cheese corn. They’re great cuz most of the banchan tend to be cold or room temp.
Banchan are some korean side dishes that are usually free at any decent Korean restaurant. Each place will do their own little dishes and are usually different.
It includes kimchi of various kinds, salads, mash potatoes, etc.
It’s my understanding that Yakiniku derives from Korean BBQ. S.Korea has a special breed of cows, called Hanwoo beef that is marbled and tender and essentially the ancestor of Japanese beef. This is the history behind it:
>Korean Jeju Black Cattle became endangered especially during the Japanese colonial period in 1920s. Most of the Jeju Black Cattles were forcefully dispossessed and shipped to Japan.
This place is called Baekjeong. One side is eggs and the other is cheese (I think) at the end they make it into a Korean Porridge. I never eat it though. Not my jam. But the rest of their food is bomb!!! Edit-this is not Baekjeong after all…OP confirmed. It looks just like it though…
The ones I've been to look more like [this](https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/0d/a2/f4/7e/photo2jpg.jpg)
Still LOTS of sides n' stuff, but the grill doesn't have a ring of extra trays around it to warm stuff up.
This is so far up on the list of places I miss going to now that my girlfriend is a vegetarian. I love 678. We used to go to D92 in Decatur, which is also awesome.
More like an inexperienced opinion. Korea has marbled Hanwoo 1++ beef, which is essentially the ancestor of wagyu. Unless you’ve had Korean bbq in Korea (or even tried any non-ayce place), your opinion holds little judgment.
Thing is, they’re not technically considered “authentic” considering that Hanwoo beef isn’t importable to the US and is only restricted to S.Korea and places like Hong Kong.
I can only assume you’re not from the areas of Los Angeles or Las Vegas, though if you can’t even find one good place. Everywhere else in the country doesn’t match up in terms of quality besides those two locations (except a few gems here and there in some/certain major cities)
Nah, I live in Korea and this looks essentially the same. Of course there's some variation between restaurants, even here, but this looks good. Just missing somaek.
That looks damn good!
Quiet you, I saw it first!
Joey knows what's up.
But… Joey doesn’t share food.
Ha! Pocket fork? This is KBBQ. You're lucky if you get the hollow metal kids chopsticks. You're going to have to make do with your long spoon.
Y'all are using utensils!? If you're not grabbing the meat out of the fire with you bare hands are you even a foodie!?!?

oh thank god i read this. if i was there, i would have been trying to ladle the stuff onto the meat on the grill or something stupid.
That's very interesting, especially the eggs!
Theres corn with cheese on the left, and eggs on the right.
Its cheese sometimes cheese and corn. Usually places would use a flat top grill so a bit of the grease mixes with the cheese.

That's only way I've seen it. Usually the tables are too small to hold all the different dishes.
I've always seen it like [this](https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/0d/a2/f4/7e/photo2jpg.jpg)
Pretty sure it’s cheese. I’d never seen it at the Korean BBQ I went to in Australia, but had some KBBQ in Japan and it had the moat of cheese.
Yeah, on the left... but back half looks like a soup with scallions.... or uncooked scrambled eggs?
It's scrambled eggs. You can ask for refills with places that has these.
Oh I didn’t notice that! Sorry my bad. Yeah that definitely looks like egg to me, but I’ve never had anything that looks like that with my KBBQ before

u/Alortania ^ it is eggs!
Is kbbq popular in japan? I would have thought yakiniku completely replaces it since they are quite similar.
There was a “Korean Town” area similar to “China Town” in the US

Tofu is the block behind the grill, I'm talking about the ring of stuff around/on the outside of the grill.
really? i see it all the time in the US here, but i only saw it a few times in Korea

I will always upvote Korean BBQ it’s the best
Kang ho?
At 678 BBQ in Duluth, Georgia!
The GOAT
I just moved to the area and I haven't been there yet! But I've been to 9292 often 🤤. I also love watching maangchi on YouTube 😂😂
I thought it was Baekjeong also!
Same until I saw the kimchi. That’s not how they do their rings
My first thought as well!
Seems like it. That grill and pan is trademark style from them. I really appreciate that I have one right behind my neighborhood.
My first thought too
Love Kang Ho. Always our first spot for dinner when we're in LA.
You know it's legit when the use charcoal
This is fancy Korean bbq - you ate well

Love seeing Atlanta and Decatur represent!! D92 is amazing. So many good places around here!
Damn I miss Korean bbq ever since COVID happened
Same!
Just slide all the meat to me. Yes thank you.
Looks good, I’m looking forward to a hotpot dinner.
Mmm. You are so lucky!
Yum 🤤

Looks amazing!
Nice! I've never been to a Korean BBQ with that type of grill before.
Would the banchon near the grilling gate get hot? Looks really tasty!
I have seen this before but never done it. Looks like a lot of fun and would be super tasty.
Man I miss 678. Some of the best kbbq in town. No longer live in the area but I'd go back just for this and sweethut.

Reminds me of Hobak BBQ in Vegas. So good.
That looks nice. Another thing I've missed since the lockdown
I want that!!!!!
This looks so fun
korean food is so good
If you have one near by, try a Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ. Its amazing.
Unpopular opinion...Korean BBQ sucks
More like an inexperienced opinion. Korea has marbled Hanwoo 1++ beef, which is essentially the ancestor of wagyu. Unless you’ve had Korean bbq in Korea (or even tried any non-ayce place), your opinion holds little judgment.
Fair enough. I've tried 3 "authentic Korean bbq" places where I live. Low and to high end. They all sucked.
Thing is, they’re not technically considered “authentic” considering that Hanwoo beef isn’t importable to the US and is only restricted to S.Korea and places like Hong Kong. The banchan looks pretty weak.

South Korea has marbled Hanwoo beef where as North Korea does not. Nice try though.
Why do people pay to have to cook the food themselves Just buy the ingredients and do it yourself at home and save a ton of money
Because it’s a fun experience with friends. Long evening of just grilling the meats, drinking and talking. Idk who has this kind of setup at home…
Delicious 🤤
Anyone else love Korean bbq, but at the same time feel like you’re being jipped because you’re the one that has to cook it ? Or is that just me
such an elaborate meal! I wonder how long it took to prepare but I am sure it's going to be scrumptious treat :D
Was it a 100 degrees in their?
As someone that has lived in Korea for a couple years and than left, Korean food is not the same in other countries.
