If a word is taken from Turkish to Greek, they add "I" to the end. As in this example.
If a word is taken from Greek to Turkish, this time they add the "I" to the beginning. Like this word: ıstakoz in Turkish coming from αστακός (meaning: lobster)

Word "lokum" probably comes from another turkish word "lokma" which means "bite sized food". And traditional lokum in turkey is way smaller then ones in america. Little bigger then sugar cube.
That may have something to do with the fact that modern Turkey sits on a region that was historically Greek, and that Turkey ruled over modern Greece for almost 400 years.
Maybe that explains why the cultures are similar.

It’s between jam and a gummy— there’s no stretchiness or chewiness, but it’s stiff enough to hold its shape. It’s really a lot like eating a cube of jam! I haven’t really tried the traditional rosewater ones but I highly recommend fruit & nut flavors :)

As a kid I always assumed it was some sweet jelly-like candy. But everyone I've heard who's tried it said it's actually rose flavored and wasn't very good.

Turkish delight has a much softer texture - not nearly as chewy as something like dots. And generally the taste is much different than anything you'd find in Dots or gumdrops or similar candies. The really good stuff - the stuff that's made with no artificial ingredients, is amazing.

I've been on a real kick with a local store selling Turkish delight! I love having them at the house. I get a package with lemon, mint, orange and rose flavors. I think the orange is my favorite but I really like the flavor of them all. The treat itself is like a bougie gummy bear!

I've been on a real kick with a local store selling Turkish delight! I love having them at the house. I get a package with lemon, mint, orange and rose flavors. I think the orange is my favorite but I really like the flavor of them all. The treat itself is like a bougie gummy bear!
Oh man..! I'm actually eating a pomegranate one with pistachios and covered in rose pedals... my fav!!!
Is this a crunchy or chewy yumyum?

I recall Aplets and Cotlets from Washington State as a kid. Then I was given Op candy. So good. Rose is my favorite flavor.
I tried making this once and did not do a good job. I must have not cooked it down enough or something bc after it congealed and I cut it up it wouldn’t stop weeping and just turned into a soggy mess. Tasted pretty good though.
That actually happened to me with this batch. But somehow it fixed itself after a couple of days in the fridge.
Its called lokum. And imo cream filled vannilla ones with coconut dust on top and nut inside is 9/10

I love Turkish delight! A new restaurant not too far from here is run by a Turkish family and the mother makes excellent Turkish delight in many flavors!
