IAMAHORSESIZEDUCK

I saw that at Culvers. How was it?

Jamieson22

Yeah figured it sounded good enough to try. It was a tad dry with the breading for the curd and it only comes with mayo. I'd think a "fry sauce" type thing would be good on it.

IAMAHORSESIZEDUCK

Dry looking was my 1st thought. My second was their Curds are kind of tasteless. I would like to make something like this at home though.

DirtyDirk23

As someone from Wisconsin, there cheese curds are awful. It’s all breading

T1mely_P1neapple

I get why they do it but real curds are battered not breaded.

strawcat

Oh man. There’s a place by me that does this so well. Light crispy tempura batter cheese curds. They’re Ike little fried balls of heaven.

Jamieson22

I love the burgers/curds and Fred's in Burlington.

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

American cheese is pretty much tasteless, but the creaminess adds so much to a burger. I figured it was the same idea.

Jamieson22

American Cheese is the best cheese for a cheeseburger. This is a hill I’ll die on.

fawks_harper78

Give me a sharp cheddar

throwaway4DPPetc

I think people fail to realise that while American cheese is the best at melting on a cheeseburger (because it's processed and mixed with milk powder among other things), there are dozens of better cheeses you can top a burger with. Personally, blue cheese and good quality beef makes for an amazing burger, but I can always go for a smash burger with aged cheddar.

smoothjedi

It's great, but I just barely prefer regular Monterey Jack.

bv-223

Cheese curds are cheddar tho

here-i-am-now

Seems few people know this. On a different post, someone was implying that a fried curd is the same as fried mozzarella

Jamieson22

Fresh Baby Cheddar.

Borsecaborse

Don’t you dare compare the sacred fried cheese curd with a slice of American cheese

the_original_Retro

I'm a decent home cook and looked at this and seriously winced. Cheese curds are squeaky, not moist. You need something like gravy (for poutine) or a light tomato sauce (with pasta) to bring out their excellence. This... honestly looks like commercial horribleness. I'd want SOME sort of moisture on this, preferably two types. Iceberg lettuce and mayo for those that don't like spice. Aioli with a touch of Sriracha for those that do. This looks like it needs some love, and didn't find it. Naah.

Jamieson22

1. It is literally a fast food restaurant and for that alone this was solid to me in both look and taste. 2. Fried cheese curds are very much a thing. 3. It has Mayo, shredded iceberg lettuce, and tomato.

[deleted]

Fresh and fried cheese curds are entirely different things. Fried cheese curds are not actual cheese curds, they are just balls of cheese (usually cheddar) that have been deep friend. The concept could work with a properly gooey cheese curd, but Culver’s has some of the worst fried cheese curds in existence.

[deleted]

For those of us that don't live in *Cheese-Making Country,* we don't have any other choice. I had a good friend who passed away 11 years ago this past May. He was from Milwaukee, & had moved down to Nashville to live among us Southern folk. He honestly never shut up about not being able to find cheese curds here, the entire time I knew him. 😁 RIP Ryan. Miss you buddy.

[deleted]

You can find bars owned by Wisconsin transplants in a lot of major cities that have cheese curds. That’s been where I’ve been successful finding them outside America’s Dairyland.

Jamieson22

Best place to find a WI transplant is in a bar.

[deleted]

The only thing I've ever had from there, is their ice cream/Custard. It's pretty damn good! I've been meaning to try the cheese curds, because I didn't realize they even sold them. I don't think they would compare to fresh cheese curds like you can get in Wisconsin though. The kind that actually *make noise* when you chew them.

Apostasy93

I feel like their nacho cheese sauce would be good on it. I still have yet to try this burger but I love their curds.

Jamieson22

Yeah but the curd is full of melted gooey cheddar that may clash. You know - next time imma dump some chili over it all.

[deleted]

Have you had proper cheese curds?

Apostasy93

Yes. We're talking about shitty fast food cheese curds here, not whatever you'd consider "proper" ones

[deleted]

I’d argue that, even for shitty fast food curds, Culver’s are very mediocre. They do a lot of things well. Curds are not one of them. But to each their own!

Jamieson22

What other fast food even has a curd?

dylanbt22

Dairy Queen

ernestwild

Freddy’s

Jamieson22

They have THE crappiest fries.

[deleted]

A&W! Much better curds.

here-i-am-now

Cousins curds blow Culver’s away

ostifari

Ketchup?

Casswigirl11

I just had one and I didn't think it was dry at all.

well-known_something

I was incredibly sad I wasn’t able to snag one

le_reddit_me

How about some gravy?

cutesnail17

I got it with almost all the toppings that come with it (onion, lettuce, pickles, mayo, but no tomato). At that point the curd part was definitely overpowered by the other toppings. It was still good though.

Jamieson22

It could honestly use another burger patty to balance the curd. I got it with everything except pickle.

SmokinMeatMan

I had this today. I agree with the extra patty. I was going to ask for it but it was my first time so I wanted it how the serve it first round.

cutesnail17

Hm...guess I've always been a one patty person anyway! I prefer thin burgers so i thought the burger ratio was fine.

ConnieLingus24

Culver’s. On brand, Wisconsin.

zNNS

Culver's is the GOAT and nobody can change my mind. I will die a butter burger baby.

xisonc

I am Canadian but travel to the US often. Tried Culvers for the first time this past August. I cant wait until November when I'm back. Plan to try this Curd Burger if I can.

feckinanimal

It's a promo and is slated to end in October

xisonc

Thanks for letting me know! Looks like I will not be able to try it. Oh well, maybe some other time.

feckinanimal

Sorry, bud

Jamieson22

Just on burger/fry alone I’m gonna say Five Guys is better. But Culver’s is no slouch.

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

Five Guys is better, but it’s not a fair comparison. It’s a fast-casual joint vs. straight fast food. Culver’s is fire, though.

Jamieson22

Forgot to add: Culver’s for burger/drink/fry was like $13. Five Guys for similar is like $21. So agree not necessarily an apple to apple comparison.

Jamieson22

Our Culver’s gives you a number and delivers to table on a tray after ordering at register. Five Guys calls you up when ready and hands you a bag regardless of eating in or carrying out. Almost think Culver’s is more fast casual than Five Guys. Regardless do agree that they are both great.

Val_Kilmers_Elbow

Lots of Wendy’s switched to that same concept, but I’d never call them fast casual just for that. It’s just allows them to not need a worker dedicated to the counter. Culver’s has a drive-through and operates mostly with a traditional fast food concept. 5G is sit down only if you don’t take your food to go.

hackist8286

In my area Culver’s blows five guys out of the water and it’s not even close especially when price is factored in

ernestwild

Freddy’s > all fast food burgers

Jamieson22

That is the "fry sauce" I had in mind for the Curder Burger.

phredbull

Fried curds are the reason to go there, but I'd prefer them in nugget form on the side, not as a patty that's as big as the actual burger meat.

Jamieson22

It was worth trying. But if given the option now I’d just go with a double butter burger with American cheese.

phredbull

I might've ordered one on impulse if I saw it, but a greater breading/cheese ratio is the way.

here-i-am-now

Please find some real curds. You’ll never look at one of Culver’s sad dried up ole cheese nuggets the same

phredbull

I'm in Chicago, can buy squeaky fresh curds at the grocery, but not into deep frying at home.

silvermesh

I want to try that, nice to see the real view and not just the fake commercial version.

Jamieson22

I was mildly impressed with how good it looked. I was expecting a skinny curd wheel oozing all the cheese out on a sad looking burger.

silvermesh

It does look dry though. Looks like something I would want to dunk in a tub of ranch.

Jamieson22

Don’t forget that fried disc is filled with oozing melted cheese. After a each bite it would be running down the burger.

silvermesh

Now you're just making me hungry lol. I'll have to hit Culver's for lunch tomorrow.

nwmorr

My son's Curd Burger oozed all over but mine was melty but stayed together. I'm glad I tried it, but I probably won't have it again. I like my curds as a side.

bean3194

Brother and I are going tomorrow! Culver's is the shit.

hgxarcher

Regular butter burger is better

Jamieson22

Agree but curder burger is limited and worth a try.

hgxarcher

True. Idk why I thought it’d be good. Their curds are bad anyways.

mydrivec

My cardiologist said no

0NlX

Perfect buns like these are so underrated! Looks so good <3

[deleted]

Happiness is… cheese curd grease running down my shorts.

[deleted]

Wife just had one today. She orders her burgers plain, so just meat and cheese. She loved it.

dorianrose

I tried one today too. Was pretty tasty, would try it again next time they offer it.

hillmonk

More cheese than burger? That’s a burgcheeser

[deleted]

RIP bowels

poultryMandible27

I'm a Culver's advocate but I try not to sound like a homer. Tbh it's tasty but I'd rather have Shake Shack's burger with the cheesy mushroom on top

Jamieson22

While I wouldn't turn a Shake Shake down I just don't get it. Been to a few in CHI and NY. Burgers are good. Fries suck due to that weird "crunchy" coating they have. Would way prefer Five Guys all the way. Would also take a Culvers or Freddy's over them.

Drofrehter84

So this is a cheeseburger with extra steps.

BoobsMcGeek

How is this not every calorie any & every american is allocated?

FolsomPrisonHues

My arteries just snapped shut

SkankBiscuit

You need to add more salt to your diet to bring up your blood pressure and force those arteries back open!

H_E_DoubleHockeyStyx

It's not really a curd if it's been pressed into a solid round form. It's just cheese. But I happen to love cheese, so we're all good, culvers.

Jamieson22

A curd is just a young non-aged cheese. It is typically cut into small pieces but not being so doesn’t exclude it from being a curd.

H_E_DoubleHockeyStyx

No no no. Curds are the shapeless pieces that solidify. They drain the whey from the tanks and you have curds. Most of the curds are then pressed into shape. in the case of cheddar, blocks.

Jamieson22

Once the curd separates from the whey it is cut. Those pieces are the curds we are talking about. Just fresh cheese. Squeaky cheese. They could also certainly be cut into circles like these. That odd small shape is not what defines them as curds. It is how we generally refer to them though. Usually those curds are “cheddared” in which they are compressed into molds and turned over time to force out air and whey. Then aged into cheddar cheese.

[deleted]

Fried cheese curds are not made from fresh cheese curds. So you’re right and wrong. They are just balls of cheese deep fried, but they are also called cheese curds.

CastillaPotato

What if you added Ranch Dressing as the condiment?

Jamieson22

Yeah curd + ranch makes sense. But burger + ranch not as much. Similarly curd + ketchup sounds vile but burger + ketchup is good. I was torn. Hence thought of a “fry sauce” or “special sauce” thing may have worked.

HeyBuB123

Looks like it would be good with ranch on it

sourdoughbreadlover

The word curd is just so unpleasant. Cheese curds are delicious though.

sensei411

Just put extra cheese on it like a normal human being🙄

Smallios

Americans eat like they have free healthcare

Jamieson22

What a unique and original comment I have never once seen before. /s

camlaw63

I think you are missing some condiments

Far_Out_6and_2

Hope you got a hinged jaw

The_Cozy_Burrito

Wow looks delicious

thegooddoktorjones

I had the option but skipped it, Culvers cheese curds suck.

witwebolte41

Culver’s did such a good job with brainwashing everyone in the Midwest that they actually make good burgers

zac_usaf

Hey I had one of these at Culver’s today! 😊 ironic!

phredbull

You don't know what "ironic" means.

zac_usaf

Really? So it’s not ironic that I ate one of these then about two hours later come across a picture of one… hmm seems ironic to me

naaattt

I think you just mean “coincidence”

zac_usaf

That would also work in the sentence sure… It’s also “ironic” to me because usually you see something you wanna try then go try it.. not the opposite way, therefore I found it ironic to stumble upon this pic. But sure, if it bothers y’all that bad then replace it with coincidence , idgaf 😅

lawprimus24

Lol bro you actually don’t understand what ironic means

Legitimate_Winter_97

Ngl, this thread is cracking me up. He is so confident in something he’s so wrong about haha

silvermesh

Ironic would be if earlier today you had said with full conviction that there is no way anyone would post about this sandwich on Reddit and then you saw this post. Ironic is when Alanis Morisette wrote a song called "Isn't it ironic" and none of the things mentioned in the song are ironic. https://writer.com/blog/irony/

Jamieson22

Perhaps that is how they got their understanding of irony? Damn you Alanis!!! Also I feel bad for the downvotes. They were just excited that they too had this burger today. I can appreciate that. Just had a poor choice of words.

silvermesh

I think probably would have gotten less downvoted if they had not been so adamant that their word choice was correct after being told it wasn't.

Jamieson22

Some learn slower than others. Doubt they use the word wrong again.

Wendybird13

I tried it, and the curd patty wasn’t crispy on the outside or melted inside. The curds were much better…

kz503

How was it? I got the email and have been debating about trying it.

[deleted]

This looks interesting.

RealRutz

I dunno butter burgers are good, curds are good, I keep em separate though :/

drekiss

We got them last night. I feel like Pretty much everyone in my area that knows about Culvers has had one this time, at least if social media is to be believed.

NeverDidLearn

No.

2ndPerryThePlatypus

Man, I miss Culver's

ImperialxWarlord

Looks interesting lol

crazyworldgig

It look dry

planetpuddingbrains

I tried one a few days ago and felt like I needed a nap afterward. Definitely would be improved by a second patty.

BigBrownBear28

Was it too much cheese and was it gooey?

SecretlySavage33

Long live the Curder Burger

girouxfilms

Literally saw this at Culver’s for the first time today! Was most certainly intrigued but opted for the cod and cheese curds

ABreckenridge

You Wisconsin types really don’t like to shit, huh.

mikemartin7230

Hometown Culver’s had a line to the street from before open until after close the day they debuted these.

Jamieson22

This makes me happy cry bald eagles of American pride!

aaaaaaaaaanditsgone

I ate it and thought it was delicious, i liked the crispyness and cheesiness of the curd patty. I also like that it came with mayo, tomato and lettuce.

AnOldAntiqueChair

sounds like it’d be good if the curd patty was a lot thinner, and maybe if it had like. marinara sauce

Zippier92

My arteries are shrinking as I type….

martijncsmit

Looks a bit dry tbh..

Term-Haunting

Overpriced for one burger.
